IMVU's content policies Straight from them.
General | Posted 10 years agoKotakunInugami wrote:
A lot of the concerns by FA users are about privacy. IMVU does not allow adult themes, explicitly banning products made that would show such things. Would that apply to FA as well? Most of the art on that site cater to adult themes.
Will you be implementing a subscription or paying service on FA?
How much input do you have on FA, though you say FA will still be independent. What then does IMVU have to gain by obtaining FA?
I, personally, am happy that two companies that I love have merged, but I do have a few concerns. It'd be nice to have more information and clarification on this. Thank you.:
Response from IMVU:
IMVU's content policies (Virtual Goods Rating Policy or VGP) only applies to products submitted to our Shop. Content shared on FurAffinity.net site is not regulated by that policy.
As mentioned in our announcement, the only input we have in FA is ensuring the site administrator has appropriate resources to make improvements to the site that he has been wanting to make (servers and such).
We are not implementing any subscription services for FA or generally making any changes to the way that community operates.
As to what we gain is what we included in our announcement - bringing together communities that share common interests and advertising on the FA site.
Thanks!

'Furries' Need Nonjudgmental Acceptance From MDs
General | Posted 10 years ago'Furries' Need Nonjudgmental Acceptance From MDs
By Will Boggs MD
March 13, 2015
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Furries, self-identified fans of anthropomorphism, need unconditional acceptance and nonjudgmental treatment from their health care providers, according to survey data from the International Anthropomorphic Research Project (IARP).
"Furries perceive significant societal stigma due to a flood of negative media and ignorant, unfounded, assumptions about the group," Dr. Sharon E. Roberts, from Renison University College, University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, told Reuters Health by email. "The pervasiveness of these stereotypes leads many individuals, including professionals, to try and 'explain' furries through pathology (e.g., childhood trauma, sexual deviancy, psychological dysfunction)."
"The implications of our findings for medical professionals are rather simple," Dr. Roberts said. "If a person discloses that he or she has a furry identity, then professionals should not automatically assume that being part of the fandom has negative consequences for the patient. It may actually be the only source of positivity (and resilience) for the patient."
Most furries create their own fursona, an anthropomorphized animal character, with whom they identify and that functions as an avatar within the furry community. A minority, called therians, believe they are spiritually connected to animals, are less than 100% human, are animals trapped in a human body, or were animals in a former life.
Assumption of these identities does not constitute psychopathology, Dr. Roberts and her colleagues say.
"The International Anthropomorphic Research Project has studied thousands of furries from 70 countries over the past 10 years. Based on our studies, which include large self-administered online and in-person surveys, experimental designs, focus groups, and individual interviews, as far as our mixed-methods data indicate, furries are not defined by any unique psychopathologies," Dr. Roberts said.
"According to our data (which includes replication studies), we find, on average, no significant differences between furry data and population-level data on any well-being measures (e.g., self-esteem); furries report being as well-adjusted as the average person," she added.
In order to improve our familiarity with the furry identity and possibly improve the quality of care they receive for unrelated conditions, Dr. Roberts and colleagues conducted six focus groups with 59 self-identified furries over three days at a furry convention in the Midwest United States.
Furries regularly described the furry community as one of the few places they could truly be themselves without fear of stigma and ostracism. Many reported it was the only place where they feel like they can be themselves.
For furries, their fursona plays an important role in social identity and representation of possible selves, according to the February 27 Health & Social Work online report.
Many furries imbue their fursonas with traits that reflect the aspects of themselves they strive for, and for them, this fosters the development of a positive sense of identity and personal growth.
About one in five furries reports having a fursona that differs in gender from their nonfursona self, and some evidence suggests that the average furry's fursona is more likely to be bisexual than they are.
Most furries conceal their furry identities in order to avoid the perceived stigma. Previous research has shown such denial to be associated with stress-related health problems.
Some of the furries interviewed said they would not disclose their furry identities to a clinician for fear of the clinician's ignorance or judgment or because the clinician might perceive their furry fandom as the source of their problems, when, in fact, it may be their only source of comfort.

just want to vent
General | Posted 13 years agoI know I normally dont blog on here, thats what i use facebook for lol but...It's Thursday and this week has been exhausting. I;m exhausted from talking, and advising. In the last four days I have had four different people come to me regarding their relationships, and three of them are going to end it or it already has ended....when did I become the shoulder to cry on? Why is it when something is wrong people flock too me for support? Guess I'll never truly know...
And people always wonder why I like to remain single?...it's because it takes two to make a relationship work and one person can't put all the effort into it. If you truly love someone you would never bring tears to their eyes. :p - Brad
