I used to think that I could "draw" properly without a tablet or paper using nothing but GIMP and its paths tool.

I have finally been dissuaded of this idea and I'll be uploading a piece shortly to demonstrate.

So it looks like I have to improve my hand drawing skills. At least I finally realized it. >.<

I really want to finish a digital art piece for a friend of mine by next winter.

Problem? I've been trying to study and draw the species I plan to use for the past 6 months and I've been getting nowhere.

I'm using GIMP and since I don't have a tablet (and due to household budget, won't be getting one any time soon) I have to use my laptop and the selection and paths tools to draw.

Furthermore, the references I can get have the subjects turned at angles that make it impossible to measure properly (at least with the measure and guide tools).

I don't know where to go from here.
