It seems I don't upload much on FA, but I'm definitely alive, so hi everyone. I'm never sure what to say or do on here besides fave and comment on art, but here's a journal if that's any help.

So I applied to work at one of my school's publications, and they notified me this week that I would be working as support staff come fall semester. So this should be fun. It's a "literary journal" so that means I'll probably be looking at different stories and poems that people send in. Never done this kind of work before, so we'll see how it goes. In, like, two months. lol.

I got a story published!

If there are any writers who use dA, I'm a member of a group where people critique each others' work. I was wondering if anyone would like to join. We do have rules about contributing to the group, and it's not boilerplate so you do actually have to read them. We're kinda hurting for numbers right now, but there's a few of us cool people over there, so if you're interested please check us out. The join process is a little different from most dA groups, but it's not a big deal.

It's kind of annoying to have to argue cogently about something you have no opinion about. "Who knows; who cares," really doesn't do it for a paper. Welp, I managed to spend 1500 words pretending to have an opinion, so there we go.

I am missing a sock. I know it's around here somewhere, but as the British say I can't be arsed to go looking for it.

I'm still not used to being twenty seven. I was asked and I had to think about it. First number that came to me was twenty six.

Tomorrow I will eat at my favorite restaurant. Tonight I will sit alone in my room or be awkward around family. Actually, I am thinking of going to bed. Haven't been sleeping well lately, as usual. But day after tomorrow, I will have a nice four-day weekend.

Things I have done for school:

Wrote four and a half stories (as well as began several fragments which I may get to when I have time). One of which was totally inappropriate for class, so I didn't turn it in. One of which involved a football dystopia and the main character turns into a wolf. I regret nothing.

Wrote something like thirty responses to assigned reading (and I've got, fuck me, four more, but they aren't due for another week).

Started on my revision for class. (only need to revise one story, lucky me). Had an impromptu talk with my professor about that one, though I didn't bring a copy of the original or the revision. Said I would schedule time on Monday, I think, to come and talk about it more.

Went completely off the rails more than once. Luckily I don't think anyone noticed.

Reread the Aeneid. More sedately this time.

Read Tacitus's Agricola

Got a little over halfway through The Golden Ass by Apuleius (still working on it, but it's an enjoyable read)

Read somewhat less of Livy's History, Book I than was assigned in class, this time in English (but apparently I remember enough from Latin 251 that I haven't missed anything there)

Wrote a four-page paper about a minor character in the Aeneid. This was fun because I got to use the Odyssey as a resource.

Translated a bunch of Sallust. Good God man!

Translated a bunch of Cicero.

Memorized the first fifteen lines of In Catilīnam by Cicero. Seriously. And recited them aloud. Took me four tries, but I got an A on it so there. I still have to write a paper fewer than five pages in length dealing with Cicero's speech. Need to read it in English.

Things I have done not for school:

Fell in love with the one album of Ensiferum I have (gaaawwwd this music)

Really started reading furry fiction--first a fantasy trilogy about griffins and wolves (then dragons join starting in book II) and now a gay romance because why not.

Drew a handful of things, apart from the challenge in September, some of them unreferenced.

Took some photographs--not as many as I might have. I am starting to rethink certain aspects of my pictures. They are attractive, but not very original.

Read Stephen Jay Gould's Wonderful Life: the Burgess Shale and the Nature of History. A section several pages long is missing, including descriptions of several organisms. First edition, I guess.

I am growing past my embarrassment at having a favorites folder stuffed full of p0rn0z. So now I'm wondering if it's wrong to download a picture, paw off to it, and just not fave it. Cuz maybe that's TMI, but on the other hand I think people like to know they are appreciated. "Hey there, total stranger. I just wanted you to know that this picture of yours helped me achieve orgasm. Have a nice day."

I think it goes nicely with this platform. I saw a journal from someone I was watching who asked if any of his watchers had gotten off to pictures of him "from start to finish" which I didn't answer because I am very easily embarrassed.

There is some light in the darkness, however. The dull details of my life will probably stay on wordpress. But random thoughts like this need to go somewhere, or else they rattle around in my brain forever and cause cracks and scratches in my nice brain varnish.

I've been checking there for a few days, and all I get are gateway timeout errors. I went to the old url, to see if maybe it was from the new version being rolled out, and it says there isn't anything there. I am really going to miss all of the people I met over there. Even before today, a lot of people had gone on hiatus or just totally quit. *sigh*

It occurs to me that though I'm looking at furaffinity pretty much every day, I never seem to update.

i think it's mainly a question of what I am working on and how much time I have. I am in a pretty intensive half-term class, and oh boy in just two weeks I've got two more of them, so I likely won't explode with activity any time soon. At the same time, there are a few things I've found time for, both of them dealing with language. Now, I know there's people on dA who are into that kinda weirdo shit, but I'm not sure about FA.

So, I don't have many watchers. A few. Mostly, if not entirely, people from furgather. So would any of you like to see the dialect of Latin that I'm inventing?

I may post an updated version of the script in my Fursona's tattoo anyway, just to have it out there. It's the only real distinguishing mark he's got, afterall, and I have made some modifications to the alphabet. The last parts of it that I expected to change, too, but that's how that goes I guess.

So about that drawing thing...I may have partly completely totally lied.

I do kind of want to learn the skills, but I just don't feel a lot of motivation there. As of right now, I'm working harder to learn Latin and fiction writing, two things that I enjoy and find satisfying even when it turns out I'm lousy at them. Drawing doesn't really do that for me. It's more like, "Yeah, there's a thing I did. Don't tell anyone, okay?" Bleh. So I switched my artist description, even though I've uploaded only a drawing.

I might make myself an avatar similar to the one I have on FG/dA. Or I might update the old one from there with my new name.

Oh yeah, speaking of which. I changed my furry name. I am now Ancus Metallus Mītis. The old one was kind of lazy and I didn't really feel it very strongly.

Part of my decision to learn how to draw was taking a class in it. It's a survey course, however, and I sort of wanted to focus on pencils. So here's an idea that was sort of bopping around in my head over the last few months: each month I will take an element on the periodic table in order, and for each one, draw one thing for each subatomic particle. This month shall be hydrogen, which has one proton and one electron. So, I will submit one further drawing this month. Next month will be helium, so two protons, two neutrons, and two electrons. Six drawings.

In the first place, I want to see how long I can keep this up, and in the second place, as my monthly goal becomes more ambitious, I will increase the amount of practice that I am doing. And my drawings generally will become less embarrassing.
