Hey folks! I'll be at Midwest Furfest this weekend in the dealer's room! This is my first con in almost two years since the pandemic started, so I'm a little anxious but pretty hyped about it!

I've been vaccinated and boosted, but I'll still be taking some basic precautions especially with the size of the event. Please stay masked up according to local recommendations and keep distanced as much as is possible, and hugs and handshakes will probably be a bit limited for this event.

Anyway, if you've pre-ordered a badge I'll have it ready for you to pick up at my table, and I'll be doing the usual convention sketch commissions -- though I'm not sure how many slots I'll be able to take as I need to warm up after such a long break, so swing by early in the weekend if you want to make sure I'm open! I received word the other day that another raccoon artist,  connercoon, had passed away due to COVID19 complications.

I did not know Conner well, but I certainly knew OF him, and I'm sure I'd bumped into him at least somewhere or another. I know he had a lot of friends, and his passing is very sad and tragic.

Apparently he sometimes went by the nickname "cooner" among friends, and I've had a few people approach me to make sure I was okay, or to express panic that they thought they'd heard I had passed on. I wanted to reassure folks that, for the moment, I'm doing fine and not going anywhere. I've had my first vaccine shot (eligible due to other health conditions) and I'm still masking up and social distancing and keeping safe, and I intend to ride out the rest of this pandemic and see everyone at conventions on the other side once it's safe to do so.

Conner is a sad reminder though of how life is short and precious. Everyone please keep safe and take care of yourselves out there, and remember to set aside a little time to connect with the folks you care about when you have a chance, because you never know if the unexpected might happen.

On a personal note, thank you everyone for the kind notes and warm wishes I've received over the past couple months. It means a lot to me. It can be hard to be a creative type during times like this: personal loss, social injustice, raging pandemic, hostile leadership. It can make working on comics and cartoons feel very frivolous, which makes motivation hard. And yet … I think there's also something to be said for holding onto a little bit of hope and joy while struggling with everything else. Plus, it's what I do, and I need to work and pay the bills. ;) So truly, I hope my work occasionally brings a little joy and a little hope to people from time to time. In the meantime … stay healthy, stay active, and keep up the good fight! <3

The World
I know the news has been relentless lately, but I still do feel it's important to be honest and speak your truths. If it's not been clear, I wholeheartedly believe Black Lives Matter, and LGBTQ+ Rights and Trans Rights are Human Rights; I support and equality and justice for everyone. I oppose white supremacism, racism, anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim stances and the like. I know that sounds like an alphabet soup of virtue signaling, but really it comes down to this: Every person is valid, and the world is a better place when we accept and support each other. If you disagree, if you honestly think white people are superior or are somehow being shackled by minorities … well, that's your business, but I'm both sad at your lack of empathy and ability to see what goes on in the world, and if you cause harm to other people because of that, then I'm pissed off.

That said … Everyone hang in there, keep safe and healthy (remember there's a pandemic still going on), and I hope to see y'all in person someday soon! <3

So, the year's convention schedule has been thrown into disarray, which is saddening but understandable. For the "Movie Monster" theme I'm bringing back the Kaiju badges from BLFC last year if you want one! But otherwise, if there's some other movie monster idea you have, just choose the Premium (4x6") or Kaiju (5x7") option and tell me your idea in the description.
