Pretty sure that people will be able to import their own models in one of the versions they're offering too, which I'm particularly excited about! I really want to know what the meshes look like on their models too, and all the rigging!

CCS (boring personal situation assessment)
Posted 12 years agoSo, I went to an info session at the College for Creative Studies today.
I've been rather miffed at my current university for it's lack of foundational courses when it comes to drawing and a bunch of other things. It's finally starting to address at least some of its issues, but I'm too far in for that to apply to me and I want something better.
This isn't a definite change. I have no idea what's going to happen in the next few months aside from me working very hard on present school projects and on side things that I want to create. I'm finally starting to collect myself and make progress on my procrastination and focus issues. That's important progress, because I've never been THAT dedicated to work. Things came very naturally to me; I never had to commit and always did the bare minimum to get good grades.
I believe CCS would be great for me in the long haul. The work being done there is insane, and students are not only being pushed to their limits, but coaxed into finding what they like working on the most. The Professors I talked to were very passionate about not only their own work, but that of their students. One professor in particular showed me a ton of work that his students were doing for a CG course, referencing who they were individually and how they worked. He knew what he was doing, and where the skills he was fostering could be applied.
Now... I'm not actually a student there. I don't have any REAL experience with what CCS is like, what these students go through before all these specialized courses, or what faults it surely has in serving its students. I don't know any of that, and I don't think faculty there would tell me it if I asked. They're supposed to make the college look shiny and great, so it's hard to know what cracks are there.
The biggest thing dissuading me is the tuition. It's lofty, and there aren't a whole lot of scholarship opportunities to offset it from what I was seeing. I could try to get nominated for/apply for this full-ride scholarship, but it only activates in fall semesters, and I'd be competing against other people. That's definitely something I want to work for, but I don't really want to bide my time at LTU any longer.
The questions end up being, "Do I venture into a gauntlet that will push me further than ever before, make me stronger when I emerge, but have to face great costs later on?" or "Do I finish where I am and just haul ass alone?" because LTU will not meet my wants as an artist.
It's a big question... and I'll be ruminating over it for the next two months as I get portfolio reviews and assess financial situations and grow more than ever. I don't want enormous student debt... but I also want to be capable of acquiring jobs when I graduate.

post-FCN 2013
Posted 12 years agoI was there last night and it was a blast!
I got to hang out with one of my friends, saw a hilarious band play, listened to some art panels, saw the end of the fursuit dance competition, and stumbled across an unofficial cubfur meet that was going on! We had tons of fun and wound up throwing plushies at each other. XP Everyone there was super cool and I wish I would have known about that meetup sooner!
The dance was fantastic and I was workin' it on the dance floor for a couple hours (including water breaks) before my body was just DONE. My muscles were molasses and I was spent, but it's been a REALLY long time since I had that much fun and all the aches and pains of today are totally worth it!!!
It was all just amazing~
I think I'll end up attending at least one day of FCN every year, cause it's awesome to meet new people, listen to panels, and dance my soul out~
Also, I keep thinking about all the adorable fursuiters and couples I saw cuddling at FCN yesterday. I used to be put-off by public displays of affection like that, but now for some reason I just find it adorable. It warms my heart and makes me a little morose at the same time, but I'm optimistic for who may come into my life someday. I wanna be the best dude I can be for them, with cuddles galore~
Side Note: University is crazy right now, but I'll be out in a month or so, and you SHOULD actually expect me to update here with some animal/furry stuff. If nothing else, there should be a lot of studies so I can understand how animals work and eventually draw them my own riciulously sketchy way.

Classes back in session!
Posted 13 years agoSo, college has been going on for a couple weeks now.
I know my posts here have been scarce as it is, and that will probably get worse because animals and furs are the last thing I'll be drawing with my current classload. (but who knows, maybe I'll find some spare time or do something like what I did a couple days ago and shirk homework for gift drawings)
Anyways-
The one class I completely love so far is Life Drawing. We haven't done many assignments for the course, but I'm way better at traditional art, and drawing from reference than drawing in any other way. I've already gotten a ton of useful information and tips for improvement. If this can lead to drawing without references or having better visualization techniques, there will be nothing more that I can ask for.
Basic Design 2 on the other hand is going to kill me. It's all about breaking objects down into their base 3d shapes. (Archimedes' Solids) If it was just for drawing that would be fantastic, but we're sculpting with clay and the teacher is grading really hard on craftsmanship.
Those are my only Art courses for the semester, and I won't bore anyone by talking about Business Law (ugh), Forensics (yay), or Tech & Prof (bluh).
Hope everyone is doing well and sorry for not posting regularly!

Post-Birthday Update
Posted 13 years agoBirthday was yesterday and it was fantastic! Got to have enjoyable time with family (rare occurrence), saw a movie, got some money, and finished watching Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (amazing anime).
In other news I'm still drawing stuff. Most of it is comprised of sketches that I'm unsure about cleaning up in photoshop and coloring... I should probably just do that to have stuff on my page and show progress (if anything).
Want to be more "active" here. "Active" because I keep up with everyone I watch... but I don't post anything myself :P

Uhhh, If I have a problem with something you're doing I will let you know in a kind manner. Mostly just don't be a jerk and don't bash people for things they can't do anything about.
If I see you, how should I get your attention?:
First, clap three times. Then jump twice, but on the second jump make sure to stay in the air. Then swim over to me while continuing to defy gravity. That's a pretty good way to get noticed by anyone though.
Just go over to me and say hi really. It's that easy. You can call me Joel by the way. I've never really had any nicknames. If you want to you can call me Lupineblade or something, but I won't really be used to it. (Lupineblade is the deviantart and tumblr name I've been going by for forever and it wasn't available here.)
I'm REALLY looking forward to FCN because it's my first furcon. I've only been to Youmacon as far as conventions go and they have been a huge blast as I'm sure this will be! See you there!
