Let's talk about dicks
Posted 8 years agoNo, I don't mean the floppy noodles in your pants.
I'm talking about being a dick. Lately I've been noticing people being really concerned about 'being a dick'. Which is fine and all, no one, or at least most people, don't want to be that guy, who just causes trouble inconveniencing others.
But still, even with that in mind, sometimes I can't help but wonder if people realize they're probably just causing more issues than not, trying to not be a dick over some really simple shit. Like with art, I'm sure everyone knows that art takes a pretty long time to draw sometimes, and is not just 3D printed in mass production, (As far as I know anyway). A long process like this, well sometimes mistakes are made, and with everyone artist's varying lives and such may not want to be told that they'd have to fix one thing or another about an art piece they just worked on, perfectly understandable.
But even with that in mind, if you had payed good money for something, and you realize something is wrong, you shouldn't just try to brush it off because you feel like asking for a fix, regardless if big or small would make you a 'Dick'. You do have the right to make sure you get what you paid for, and shouldn't let miscommunication or or the thought of hurting someone feelings over a bit of extra work get in the way of that. Like it's no better than lying to someone to keep them happy, in the end, if they find out it ain't true, then that just makes things worse. Perhaps that's a slight exaggeration, I don't think anyone going to cry over errors in art. But still, I'd find it's better to try and fix things, and use what you learn from the experience to try and avoid the mistakes in the future.
Also Autobuying YCHs doesn't make you a dick either. Just throwing that out there. If someone gives you the option and you decide to use it, that's fair game, you're not a dick, unless maybe you're doing it to show off, then maybe a little. But still, better than making some sort of backroom deal or whatever.
So lesson of this mild rant, don't be so self-conscious over what people think about you being a dick. You'll know when you're being a real dickhead, at least I would hope so.
