lei-lani formed her own Patreon for "The Depths" webcomic, so she could offer a lot of rewards and perks to her many fans. Now she's going to be getting a brand new website soon, at a special cost of $300 total, but she'll need some new supporters for her Patreon to work out this cost. Even if you subscribe for a few months, it's more than enough to help her.

The Return of New Free Content on HTH
General | Posted 8 years agoAfter giving this a lot of thought we were thinking of ways to give out samples to free members, without creating a system like before where there was more free content than gold. So we were thinking of 1 Gold character moving to Free for a limited release date of 1 month. So each month there would be a new character given to free members to play with for the month. To decide which character goes Free that month we've added a vote to the $10 tier on Patreon. Since it's gold members who support the studio, we think they should have a hand in what is given out to Free members on a trial basis.
We've already started the selection process for this month. We'll be launching a vote to determine the temporary Free Scene sometime later this week. So if you want to participate there's still time to join Patreon. All our tiers include a gold subscription except for the $1 basic voting tier.

General | Posted 8 years agoThe Future of Free Content
General | Posted 9 years agoA personal and direct message from HTH Studios LLC:
We as a company have given up our lives to provide content for this game, to move this project forward and keep it running. As of now the studio employs a total of three people: One that advertises and networks, one that promotes and does our PR, and one that by himself writes thousands of lines of code, draws and animates this game into existence with his bare hands. As of right now we don't have any free time as our employees work an average of 72 to 78 hours a week.
We pay thousands of dollars to our technicians and to people who run our servers, to fix code that's messed up and broken, and make repairs on our system, on top of advertising, to run this project and keep it going. Over the years we've had some of the most ridiculous things said to us, demands made, and how dare we charge money to keep this project alive. We've been near the verge of bankruptcy several times since starting this business, and we struggling to the extremes to keep our heads above water.
We can no longer tolerate the demands that people are making. We can't continue to give away content and expect to keep this alive. But still we persist. We will not give up quietly, and will continue to release updates.
To keep the content flowing to you, we've reached a limit on our servers as to how many free members we can actually maintain. We have over 200,000 Free Members with only 4% who are Gold members. As it stands we can no longer maintain this load. We cannot constantly produce free content, host it and pay for it out of our pockets. So as a company we have come together and say that yes we will still offer free content, but we are sad to say that we have to reduce the amount of free content we provide and we are eliminating the Free Member updates. We have to reduce Free content in order to keep this game alive and available on-line.
We would like to stress, we are not eliminating Free content entirely, we are simply reducing the amount of Free content available and will not be adding to Free content aside from sporadic updates. These changes are going into effect immediately. Doing so will allow us to focus more time on Gold Updates providing more and better product for those who pay for Gold content. This will give Gold Members up to 4 scenes a month (including continuing to revise and update scenes), an increase from from the previous 1-3 scenes per month.
If you are upset about us having to reduce Free content, please stand by our game and support us by purchasing a subscription for $5.00 so we can continue to expand this project. Subscriptions cost less than a meal at McDonalds. We beseech you, if you do not like us pulling back free content, by all means go gold, because that content will be instantly available to you. If not, then we won't hold you back from walking away from our studio. As much as we love our fans and what we do, if you have to walk away from us because we want to keep this alive, then do so. We will remain and continue to produce content for Gold members.
Again these changes will go into effect immediately.
With the utmost respect and sincerity,

Game Expansion and Patreon
General | Posted 10 years ago We've been going over the state of the game, and as it stands there are over 50 interactive characters and even more scenes. We feel now would be a great time to work on expanding the gameplay by focusing on developing High Tail Hall beyond the “click-and-fuck” it is now.
To be frank, I am getting to a point where I’m close to burnout on sex scenes especially since I've been trying to put in more and more detail. As it stands, I can’t keep up with the number of scenes like I was in the past. So to prevent ACTUAL burnout, it's time for me to switch gears. We have a long list of how I can do that, from puzzles, arcade games, dress up closets for interactive characters, voicework with dynamic dialogue, a fully customizable character builder, items that affect both you and the environment, secret areas, a relationship builder and so much more.
To give our users the chance to decide what goes in the game next, we are going to launch a Patreon account that is strictly participation based and entirely tierless. Just $1 will get you access to everything on Patreon. The amount you give is up to you, but there will only be one tier and that’s the $1 or more option. Nothing will be exclusive beyond having more WIP pictures. Whichever features with the most votes on Patreon, will move to the top of the production queue. For every member that wants it, this is an opportunity to participate and give feedback on where we take this game next. This will also be a way for anyone who wants to donate to the studio another option that doesn't involve purchasing additional subscription content.
When we say participation based, we mean we’ll be having polls on where the next focus should be with lots of examples of the current state of each expansion. Every expansion will have an estimate for how long I expect I’ll need to complete each one clearly defined in each post.
Subscription content will still remain in the game, so if you have a Gold Account you’ll still have access to the Gold Island, exclusive characters, and expanded scenes. Your subscription will also include expanded gameplay as we continue development. Free members will get access to expanded gameplay on the Free Island. So this benefits both Free and Gold members.
Starting in August we will be switching to the new schedule of updates which entirely focuses on game expansion and interactivity, the direction of which will be determined by you, the user! I want to assure everyone the game will continue to expand with more characters and more scenes. I’ll just be reducing the amount to 1 Gold and 1 Free scene a month, so that way I’ll have a whole month (if needed) to make a scene look nice.
Why did we change our stance on Patreon? We have read the official statement from Patreon that their ban on pornography applies ONLY to real life people and not drawn or animated artwork. We also have a CPA who is willing to take care of the non-U.S. resident taxes that Patreon no longer handles. We're willing to give Patreon a try in an effort to allow the users more of a chance for feedback and breathe some variety and new life into this game.
High Tail Hall grew because of the fans who wanted to see it continue, and I’ve loved working on a project that keeps so many people entertained. Now that there are many different directions to focus on, I wanted to let the public have a hand in what I work on next. We feel that Patreon will be an opportunity to show everyone how much game development is in progress that will expand High Tail Hall beyond what it is currently, into the game I had planned.
I always wanted to offer members the ability to see what we're working on and for us to interact more with our fanbase. I enjoy getting feedback while this company grows. We just don’t currently have the ability to do so on our website, so we figured we might as well use a website that is fully functioning and has proven that it works for others.
Currently our Patreon is not live. As soon as that happens, we’ll post on the front page and all our other social media outlets. Thank you to everyone for sticking with us moving forward.

Catching Up Through Compensation
General | Posted 10 years agoBecause it is very clear now that our ability to catch up has spiraled beyond our control, in an effort to fix things we are planning to offer Every Active Gold Member a 1 Month Expansion to their gold subscriptions. We gave Active Gold Accounts a free month back in May, and we gave 2 weeks out in January, so we’ll collectively call the two months we’re behind a wash, and focus on finishing out July. That means Bella’s scene that launched in July, Jeanette’s scene that launched later on in the month, the last gold scene we’re working on now, and a Free scene to finish out the month of July and effectively catch us up.
Everyone has until August 1st 12:00am to purchase and activate a gold account to qualify for a Free Month.
We really appreciate everyone who’s been so patient with all the delays we’ve been experiencing.

Severing Ties
General | Posted 10 years agoIt pains us to inform everyone that we have severed ties with Fossil. He no longer works for us, and we are not helping him on his projects. After over two years of working together his behavior and attitude has made us realize that we are fighting a losing battle trying to have him on our team or in our lives. Because of this, we are going to have to rethink our business model. We had always planned to work on this project with Fossil -- something I had told him in the beginning of our friendship. We've sat silent before when we've had drama, but we feel it’s important to share with everyone what happened so everyone can know our reasons for what we did and why we’re switching gears.
Working together with Fossil began well enough; things went smoothly until Fossil insisted that he stay in his state of residence. By doing so, not only were we having to pay extra taxes for having an employee out of state, he was also losing about half his paycheck to taxes from both Colorado, and his current state. We told him if he moved to Colorado, not only would it save the business a lot of money, but he'd be able to get his full paycheck. When we told him all of this, he insisted that it wasn’t that big of a deal. We offered to let him live with us if he needed a place to stay until he found something of his own. We offered to help him move if he needed it. We even offered to help him find a place if he wanted. He refused every offer we gave him.
Shortly after this we began having problems with delayed paychecks. A part of it was because of the problems we were having with our former tech head, Xzentio. The problems weren’t because we didn’t have the funds, it was because Xzentio lived in Europe, and we were losing a lot of money to the conversion rates to Euros. These transfers caused our funds to be put on hold while they were in transit. He also had a really sad story about his situation, and we wanted to help someone who’d been able to help us jumpstart our business. At the time we really thought we were ‘Paying it Forward’. We also still needed him because he told us he could help us build our own engine. Unfortunately his constant need for ‘emergency’ funds due to some sort of catastrophe caused a lot of problems with delays in getting people paid on time. Once we realized that not only were we spending a lot of money on Xzentio, but he was not able to deliver what he promised, so we let him go. It was only afterwards that we realized that he had been adding his own code to essentially ‘break’ my code that I had put into the game for interactivity and puzzle expansions. In essence, he was sabotaging the code in an effort to keep out what he called ‘security violations’ which we later discovered was his justification for not understanding code well enough to get what I was doing.
Why am I bringing this up now? Because we never talked about it before and it’s relevant to what happened with Fossil, because there were times when paychecks were delayed for a weekend, one week, or sometimes longer because funds were tied up in transfers to Europe. That was our mistake and our ignorance of what we were doing.
In an effort to figure out a way to cut out the delays in paychecks we contacted the payment company we were using (ADP at this time) who informed us that making sure all our employees have a bank account will cut down on some delays. Fossil was the only one who was not using a national bank branch, opting for a credit union instead. We told him many times that the credit union he was using was causing tremendous delays in him getting his paycheck on time. None of the paychecks we send between the different national banks for our other employees have ever had the type of delays as he's had on his end. The banks, the paycheck companies, and eventually our CPA, all told Fossil that he needed a bank account to make things go faster. He refused to do what we recommended and continued to blame us for the problems saying our explanations were ‘convenient excuses’. We tried to explain how it’s not an excuse; this is how banks, paycheck processors and jobs work. Living in a different state will already cause delays; insisting on using an incompatible banking method will cause further delays.
I'll admit, when we first started this business we had no idea what we were doing. We opened up subscriptions as a way to stop living off of donations and continue to fund and update a game that people were enjoying. Neither Ty nor I have degrees in business, we just wanted to make a game and run as legit a business as we knew how to run based on the examples of our own family members businesses. So for the first two years of business we were flying blind, making mistakes, figuring things out, but always trying to improve and get a handle on it. At the beginning of year 3 (our current year of business) we were able to get a CPA who helped us figure out where we were making financial mistakes. Continuing throughout the year we’ve been trying to get a handle on it, and it certainly seemed that way until we started to have paycheck delays again. This time, with the help of our CPA and his legal department we had the tools to handle it, and we’re looking forward to having this nightmare be a thing of the past.
Now, none of this financial headache is the reason we fired Fossil, it was just the last drama straw in and endless string of issues we’d been having with him since we hired him. Both Ty and I thought a lot about how much we should share about what happened. We realized that it was more important to tell the people supporting and playing our game why we’ve decided to go our separate ways in as much detail as we could, than leave it at a ‘difference of opinion’ or something equally vague to explain away our problems. We told you when we hired on a new artist, because we wanted everyone to know what their money was funding, now we have to do the same by saying why continuing to work with Fossil was not in our best interests.
One of the reasons we hired Fossil is because of his skill and speed. Something we told him when we brought him on board. Around this last December the quality of Fossil’s work had slipped so far that we were spending just as much time fixing what he was giving us as he was spending working on it. Sometimes he’d spend 2 or 3 weeks on refining a sketch. Something he’d never had problems with as his usual productivity was to get a fully refined sketch done in maybe a couple of days. This happened earlier this year with Zoe’s 3rd person sex scene, where she had to be revised 3 times, the first time when I got to it, again when Panda tried to fix it, but couldn’t because she’s not an animator, and the third when we took it to Fossil to fix the anatomical and motion errors. It also happened with a China blowjob scene (which is not currently in game) that I revised, then Panda revised, then we realized that the heads Fossil had drawn were not at the angle to give a blowjob, and we were unable to tilt the head into a position that actually allowed her to take the cock in her mouth let alone lick it in a natural position. When we sent it back to him, he realized he’d drawn it so the head would be tilting to the side – something that wasn’t in the notes for the scene, and it’s not something that I had the ability to code in at that time. Which I know sounds overly complicated for something that should be easy, but just because it’s drawn doesn’t mean the animation automatically works. We’re not making a video, we’re making an interactive game, so if you want something to move, you have to code in the animation you have.
This past year Fossil also had struggled to stay on model (something that is standard practice for any animation company). This happened with Kira’s 3rd person sex scene as that was supposed to be a Bella scene. We tried to fix it for Bella, but it would have required too much time to fix considering we were already behind. After looking at it for a while, we realized the character Fossil had drawn resembled Kira more than Bella, so we had to switch her to Kira in an effort to get caught up. We were lucky that there were enough similarities that we could use it for Kira. We have not been so lucky other times.
Furthermore, some of the animation he sent us was so unlike his usual work that it was completely unusable. Something that had never happened before especially considering Fossil often touts himself as being able to draw anything since it’s ‘just lines’. We believed him, until we had problems with Jezzel’s 1st person doggystyle scene. First he sent us animation for a fox tail, not a husky tail, and when we asked him to fix it, he sent us a very rushed almost scribbled set of motions that were less fluid than the original fox tail. Then he said he couldn’t draw a husky tail. Really we struggled with everything he sent us for Jezzel’s scene, from her face, her hair, her expressions, down to a point where we had to have LittleRedPanda help fix not only the anatomy flaws, but most of the animation (It should be noted that she’d never done any frame by frame before – so extra kudos to her for rising to the challenge).
After we confronted Fossil with all the problems we’ve been having with his work, he told us that his work had been slipping because he wasn't getting paid, except at the time we confronted him he’d been getting regular paychecks for over six months. So something wasn’t adding up. When we tried to get more information, he blew us off.
Another big problem we had with Fossil was how he wouldn’t communicate his availability despite getting paid based on a salary rate. Not communicating with us was only a mild annoyance in the beginning because it kept him out of the loop with what was happening with the studio, and caused some delays in productivity whenever we had to wait for him to contact us back. When his work began to suffer, that was when we insisted that he check in and stay in communication about his availability. Considering he was out of state, it was even more important that he stay in communication because if he didn't, we were completely cut off from his situation, and further stalled production.
We keep the studio hours flexible within reason, but we don't see how requiring that our employees tell us their availability during work hours is such a controlling request. It's something that every business does. We don’t use timecards because we don’t pay on an hourly basis. All we require is that employees check in when they wake up, check out if they are unavailable, check in when they came back and check out when they are going to bed. If employees go out of town, we ask that they let us know their plans in advance and the length of the stay, and to set aside time to work as needed. We also ask our employees to keep us informed if they get sick and need to take some time to recover. Fossil did not do any of that almost the entire time he worked for us. It was only toward the last few months we worked together that he started trying harder to let us know what was going on and when he was available to work.
These problems have been a huge factor in why we have been falling so far behind, but it’s not the only reason we’re behind. The sudden move, lack of a new place, having to split the studio into separate houses, then waiting almost 7 months for something to become available that met our needs, having to adjust to medication for my ADHD, and getting work done to alleviate my back problems, all of that didn’t help us catch up either. We told Fossil when we began the moving process that we would need him to pick up some slack and help us from falling further behind or even help us catch up. He was not helpful in that regard at all which lead us to getting further behind. So as you can see we had multiple things against us with trying to get updates done.
The day we let him go, Fossil had contacted both companies we used to process paychecks to see what the problems were. Not only did he not talk to the right people, he didn’t even tell them our business or the circumstances, he just asked them base questions of if the problems he was having could happen at their companies. They told him no. The thing is, when we switched from ADP to Paychex, they assured us that we wouldn’t have the same problems as before. For about six months we didn’t until the same problems from before happened again. The only difference was this time we had a CPA and access to a legal team to help when we started having problems with Paychex. I can’t really give more information right now because we are in legal deliberations, and we can’t compromise anything, so we have to wait until it’s over, but afterwards I can divulge the rest of what happened in another post. Fossil did not believe what we told him about our situation and insisted that we spend more time on the phone talking to the ADP and Paychex representatives to get the information that he got. I had already spent a considerable amount of time on the phone to get the answers we had already given him. When I told Fossil I’d been on the phone with these companies, and that Fossil had talked to the wrong people and not given them enough information, he didn’t believe me.
We refuse to work with someone that thinks we're lying to them. He's made it obvious to us that he does not believe we are working as hard as we can for everyone's benefit, while the rest of our team sees our hard work and is sticking with us. We strive towards teamwork and trust within our company and if one person refuses to believe not only what we tell him, but our CPA, his fellow employees, and basic concepts of business and banking that are easily researchable online, then we shouldn't be working together. If we have an employee that thinks we're scapegoating them and out to get them, then we really shouldn’t continuing to try working together.
We realize now that we were forcing him to be part of the team, and that's not what we want in our company. We want people who want to work for us, who are excited to participate and communicate, just like the rest of our staff. We did try to give him the tools and knowledge to fix his problems but we continually met with resistance and refusal. Once he started blaming us on top of refusing to take the steps to fix his situation, then we realized we had no business working together any further.
HTH Studios is a small company. There are delays and problems that go along with starting a business, there are MANY reasons why start-up businesses fail, and we've run into a lot of those hurdles along the way. At the time we hired Fossil, we really thought that he was behind our business and believed in seeing it succeed despite the issues that might come up. We were wrong.
Nothing and no one will prevent us from continuing to try and make this business a success. We refuse to give up! We will keep moving forward since this is our dream to see our company thrive and move on to create many more games and entertainment for the fandom and whoever else sees a lady zebra with tits in a bikini in an interactive game and says "I wanna see where this goes.".
We appreciate everyone sticking by us through everything and all the supporters who buy subscription content. Thank you. We will continue to strive to keep this game alive and improving.
Our Situation, Delays, and Compensation
General | Posted 10 years agoWe've found ourselves in a tight spot, and it's past due for an explanation of our situation and how we plan to compensate everyone
To start- we are currently living in 2 separate houses which is exacerbating the delays. We are trying to live close to our employees while living within our means. We need to be in a safe environment nearby enough to have regular meetings, and will allow me to have my animals. This has proven difficult given where our employees currently live, as our options are either too expensive, poorly maintained, or incompatible with our needs as a business.
The studio is what needs need to move, not our employees, as our last apartment was no longer a safe place to live. Because we're struggling to find something that meets our needs in the area, it has caused further delays. The stress is definitely causing problems in us being able to work effectively and efficiently.
On top of the housing issues, Crow has recently been diagnosed with ADHD. Before he was officially diagnosed as an adult, we were attempting to manage his symptoms without medication. We realized it was not working, so he is currently being seen by a doctor and we are taking steps to get him treatment. This been a massive blow for us, since we’ve finally gotten his Tourette's Syndrome manageable, only to have the ADHD take center stage.
We wanted to make you all aware that because we are seeking medication for him, there may be problems in the interim while he gets adjusted to new meds. Also, because of the Tourette's, there is the potential that the medications may cause symptoms of his Tourette's to resurface. This can potentially lead to more delays, but we will all continue to work through this process. We are remaining positive that things will work out for the best, and we are trying to take steps to fix the problems and help Crow to be the best he can be.
Despite it being a big loss for us, it's more important that we own up to our mistakes and make up for them as best as we can, because you as our fans, are very important to us. Because we're over a month behind now, we plan to give all members an extra month added to their subscription. To extend this benefit to everyone who wants the extra month, we're giving until May 1st to purchase a subscription if you do not already have an active one. All ACTIVE GOLD accounts on May 1st 2015 will have an added month to their subscription around 11:59pm. I will make another post as we get closer to May 1st as a reminder.
Thank you all for your patience, understanding and support during this craziness. We really appreciate everyone who sticks by us while we sort this all out.
