Metroid Dread
Posted 4 years agoJust finished my first playthrough of Metroid Dread and... Hoo boy, is it a ride.
Things start out simple enough, but the bosses get progressively faster until the fights are downright frenetic. But damn if it isn't satisfying to take down that boss.
No spoilers here - though I had a hard time avoiding them on Youtube. Just because I've watched all the trailers doesn't mean I want to watch a bunch of spoilers Youtube!
Sorry, writing this while still buzzing from the finale.
Anyways, it's a game well worth getting. The one gripe I have is that it's rather easy to get lost, and have no clue where to go next during your first playthrough. Happened to me at least four times.

Remembrance
Posted 4 years agoToday marks a full year since my family lost our beloved greyhound to thyroid cancer.
We released her ashes on the beach she once loved to run on.
Missing her dearly right now. At least she didn't suffer unduly.

No Subject
Posted 4 years agoIt's been an... interesting year and three months since the last journal.
The bushfire crisis here in Australia (including the property of a part of the family being burnt out by bushfire right after they had moved out), COVID lockdown... and losing two dogs to cancer.
Yes, you read that last one right.
Just under a year ago, we lost one of our two dogs to thyroid cancer (I didn't post because it didn't occur to me; as the gap between journals can attest, I don't tend to post these frequently), and we soon fostered (then adopted) another dog for the benefit of our remaining one.
This adopted dog passed away today, euthanised because he had bone cancer riddling his lower femur (which had led to a break).
There was no point in pursuing treatment; it was far too late, and would only prolong the inevitable.
*sigh*
Going to miss you, buddy...

Happy New Year
Posted 6 years agoHave a safe and happy new year, everyone.
2019 was a doozy, all right. Quite the highs and lows.
And the beginning the the worst bushfire season I've ever seen (for number of fires, at least; the death toll has proven surprisingly low so far, so it seems the bushfire safety message is getting through at last).
Let's hope 2020 proves to be a good year.

Steam troubles (Important; please read)
Posted 10 years agoI recently purchased a game for the Steam network, but when I went to redeem the code so I could install it, I encountered a massive problem.
The option to redeem codes is completely missing from the menu.
I'm not sure if it's a glitch, or if it's been removed, but it's not there.
Now, this was frustrating, but then I thought about the other copies of the game... not to mention other games such as Gauntlet (The Steam remake, not the PS2 version) that you simply purchased redemption codes for; those are just as inaccessible as mine.
Those of you with Steam accounts go and have a look (if you don't, it's free). If you can't find the option to redeem codes, please submit a ticket, and write a journal to inform your own watchers. We need to get the community behind this.
Thank you for reading this.

Character Alignment meme
Posted 13 years agoSpotted this on another person's account and just decided to try it out. Normally not into this sort of stuff, but hey.
Jaxamar "Jax" Drakenguard/Dragoneye (Charmeleon/Charizard, PCA student, "law enforcement volunteer"): Lawful Good. There's no other place for this guy; although he's not a fanatic to the law, he has a well-defined moral code, which he rarely breaks. Commit a serious crime in front of him, especially as his "Super Hero" alias (he never claimed to be a Super Hero, ironically), and you'll find yourself unceremoniously dragged off to the police station.
Avartiath "Av" Drakenguard (Salamence, PCA student, tech whiz): Lawful Good, bordering Neutral Good. Av is Jax's tech advisor, and built most of the Dragoneye equipment. He isn't quite as rigid as Jax, and his faith in the law has been shaken by past events. He is recovering, however, thanks to the sudden re-appearance of his mother, and his devoted girlfriend, Myko.
Myko Latina (Latias, PCA student, herbalist): Neutral Good. Myko is a very kind and caring soul, but will ignore rules if they get in the way of her helping someone.
Rayzarana "Rayza" DrakCleaver (Shiny Rayquaza, PCA student, rich kid): Neutral Good. Although gentle and caring, Rayza is also laid-back and easygoing. He respects the law, but sometimes wonders who wrote some of them; they were clearly drunk or high when they did.
Ember Typhlo (Typhlosion, PCA student, martial artist): Lawful Good, bordering Neutral Good. Ember is used to a strict moral and mental code, but finds the curfew a tad stifling, as it cuts into her martial-arts lesson times.
Cruurtun (Haxorus, PCA student, farm-boy): True Neutral. Cruurtun is pretty much a "let me go about my business" kind of guy; pretty laid back, and an avid gamer. He's more concerned about himself and his friends than anyone else, but is willing to help if he sees someone in trouble.
Darcia (Dragonair, PCA student): Neutral Good, very nearly True Neutral. Darcia is painfully shy and introverted, so no one really gets a chance to talk to her much. She does, however, find battling problematic; she would much prefer to assist her allies than attack directly, but her species cannot learn many support moves.
Reshina Rilam (Reshiram, PCA student, Farm-girl): Neutral good. She was instilled with a strong sense of right and wrong at a young age, but sometimes the rules don't line up with this...
Leonidas Zekra Rilam (Zekrom, PCA student, farm-boy): Lazwful Good. Where his twin sister Reshina breaks the rules, Leonidas searches for the loopholes. It might not always work the way he intended, but he means well.
Marxon Kazeryu (Bagon, Exploration Team leader): Neutral Good. This guy has little respect for the government, but a strong desire to help others.
Lilia Drani (Dragonair, Exploration Team member): Neutral Good. Very shy and reserved, but also quite kindly and also quick to anger when her friends are in trouble.
Leonidas Dragonfury (Dragonborn, Athasian twin-blade Ranger, (my first D&D character; 4th edition)): Neutral? Good. Not quite sure where to put this guy; he has a strong set of morals and values... which the law, for the most part, directly opposes. Also a member of the rebellion known as the Veiled Alliance.
Miria Arlan Drakenguard (Dragonborn, Preserving Athasian Dragon Sorceror (4th edition character)): Neutral Good. Although a member of the Veiled Alliance, Miria does respect rightful laws.
Marxon Arlan Drakenguard (Dragonborn, Preserving Athasian Assault Swordmage (4th edition character)): Neutral Good. Quiet and reserved, but surprisingly brave, and would be an upstanding citizen in a more reasonable civilisation. A minstrel who plays an exotic ocarina, he isn't above using a little poison on his blade.

Fanfiction
Posted 14 years agoHi everyone, this is Cruurtun. I've posted a fanfiction on Fanfiction.net, and have just added my third chapter.
Here's the first chapter of Newcomers, a crossover fic of Inheritence Cycle (the world represented in Eragon), and Zoids (specifically Zoids; New Century). http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7261365/1/Newcomers
It's a rather unusual combination, so be warned that this might not quite turn out as expected
