Megaplex con was fun
Posted a year agoIt’s been a week since Megaplex and I have not posted about anything because
mikrogoat has visited me the week after so I’ve just been hanging out with him.
I was happy to meet so many fellow furries, I wore a mask made of foam that cost five dollars and I felt cute, appreciated and like I belonged.
The energy of everyone at the con brought me back to how I felt early on in joining the fandom. I was happy to have met everyone who came to the Fenris booth, the joy of you all just looking at the artwork, that even wasn’t mine, was so pleasing. For those that bought a print from me, thank you so much for your support.

Wreck It Ralph Hot take (not really)
Posted 7 years agoIf I can rant about something on a website supposedly no one is on anymore. Wreck-It-Ralph, its fine whatever, not as good as the first, that’s what you’ll hear……but what I want to rant about is this new trend of directors, voice actors, and producers appearing before a movie giving you an intro to it. They usually will face the audience directly and say something like, “hi, it was really hard to make this movie, it took many years and we hope you like it.” I’ve only seen and heard of it being done in Ralph, The Incredibles 2, Coco, and some Amy Schumer movie.
For decades movies had not done this and I’m assuming it was really hard to make those movies too. This is just my personal irrelevant opinion, so…
3 reasons why these “we hope you like our movie” bits at the beginning make me feel icky.
1. It makes me feel guilty if I don’t like it. When they say “I hope you enjoy our movie” I can hear the ringing of the anticipated and potential attachment of “because if you don’t…” right so they can totally not intend for that, but what happens if you don’t like the movie, you go back to remembering those few guys at the beginning who served you this entertainment with a smile and familiarity, to only then feel like an unappreciative jerk who just didn’t like all the hard work and years that went into this. They can bow and talk about the movie and the work behind the curtains in various interviews and social media, but when you go out of the way to start talking about the movie before it screens, it’s like they are preparing you for what is about to happen, which brings me to my next point.
2. Immersion. With Wreck-It-ralph, they did not just simply say “we hope you like-“, they also starting going into a little exposition about what the movie is about before we even see the movie. The entire time I thought, “wait, you are stopping the movie from beginning so you can tell us what we are about to see? Why don’t you just play it already?” It gives a sense of lack of confidence in your project if you have to tell us to like it rather than just letting us consume it and like it on its own merits. It comes off as….a little insecure. It stops us from beginning our journey that you worked so hard on, to let us know, that it’s just a movie and that these real human faces are behind it. It takes you out of the immersion when someone is telling you “it’s just a movie” “they’re not dead, they’re just acting” “that’s not blood, honey, that’s just corn-syrup”.
3. Pre-credits. It feels like a pre-encore with identifiable faces. It’s like an encore for these specific people that appear visually at the beginning. Even though they are “representing” the rest of the crew, their faces are ultimately the ones you get to see, rather than being lumped up at the end credits.
Anyways it is not like it ruins the movies or changes how you’ll view it, or even remember it after the movie has started, but it gives me a feeling they are done as a response to pressure given by not living up to some kind of expectation. With the Incredibles, people were anticipating a sequel for so long, for Ralph, well, it was a critically acclaimed movie. To me, it’s just starting to become a sign of compensation for something they are aware of, like, “guys, it’s not gonna be as good as the first, but we hope you like it anyways”.
Oh, side note, someone made a point: Wreck it Ralph is a videogame movie, so, no Steam? Flash games? MMOs? IGN? But…instead, viral youtube videos like screaming goat and flossing, oh but, Fortnite…
And also, Youtubers make appearances, but I don’t think any of them are even Lets Players…..why?
For example, could you imagine GameGrumps making an appearance? I know why they wouldn't choose Pewdipie, but is Markiplier not a safe choice? he has the numbers.

i still like FA
Posted 7 years agois it weird that i still like using FA for my furry art? its a gallery setup so i can just see only art without getting overwhelmed by tweets. i really get distracted by tweets :(
though the plus side is you can discover so many new artists through retweets and likes, ....but i'm still just overwhelmed,....is it ok if i just go back here into my little old cave, lost in sepia colored memories?

smile dog
Posted 7 years agowhy the fuck is smile dog scary again? does anyone even remember that thing? it looked like someone put dentures on a dog and took a picture because it was funny and made old ladies laugh.........but then someone put a red filter over it and that made it scary? maybe i missed a point.
FA beta flash issue
Posted 7 years agoI'm having this issue with furaffinity where SWF files end up looking very pixelated and garbled when i switch to the beta version. does anyone have that issue? with flash files? I usually use the classic mode so i've just stumbled upon this.
posting commissions
Posted 8 years agohey! to my commissioners. may i post commissions? i never ask and i come from a habit of never posting commissions, but i have not drawn anything of post-worthy as of late.
i know the commissioners who actually told me they wanted to keep it private, i dont know how you still feel about that, i like them and would like to post it but its cool if you dont. It is fine, just let me know though, I am tempted.
also yeah ill start to retweet more commissions, i fall into the habit of not doing that. i dunno, just let me know if thats not ok.

art computers
Posted 8 years agobecause ive heard this a lot and from industry pros. if you are looking for an art computer, there is no such thing. there is no specific computer made for running art programs like adobe photoshop, after effects, illustrator, in design, flash, toonboom, maya, blender, zbrush, etc. Any computer (mac or PC) is just a computer you can use.
(mind you) you do need to look at the specs of said computer but.....no there is no .....computer...desktop....designed for JUST making art on.........
the most common advice you'll get is to build it yourself because its cheaper and you have your say on what it should have. i'm not a tech savy person and am still using my computer from 2013.
just wanted...to say that....
it was a weird journal but i also kinda just want to put a new journal here.....mmm

Lefou rant
Posted 8 years agoFor the Beauty and the Beast animated movie people. I have not seen the live-action movie.
Ok, so for everyone who BELIEVES Lefou (the fool) was always gay………….look, I ship it, look at my gallery, look at what I’m into; Its up my alley, but no, he wasn’t gay for Gaston. He was the bumbly sidekick who was there to be part of the songs and make a funny duo combo with the main antagonist. I mean, if Gaston really had no Lefou, what would that look like? He is just going to be talking to himself? There was always a sidekick to the villain so that they could explain their evil diabolic plans to take over the world (aka the audience).
AND yes, someone from Disney can say “that guy from Frozen was TOTALLY gay” but I’m sorry, you are going to have to do better than lip service and an ambiguous scene.
AND you can say “oh but they wanted it to be about it, expressing the complexity of gay relationship contextually in the straight world blah blah blah” you can say that you attempted to make Beauty and the Beast about immigration, but if that point doesn’t come across, then it doesn’t exist. You can say it was about many things but if you don’t execute it well enough to be clear to the audience, then it won’t be there for them.
Also, you’re reading too much into the 1990s Disney animated movies. A bit too much.
Next they’ll say Don Quixote and Sancho were a gay couple (again, I ship it….but no)
ALSO, those complaining about a gay character being in a Disney movie………………
1. It’s a Disney reboot………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..come on! Does no one remember Maleficent with that tWisT cOnCePt? They can do whatever they want. Maybe Belle is actually an alien from outer space. What. Ever. It’s a Once Upon a Time episode with high budget.
2. If you are actually homophobic, trust me, explaining to your kids why two guys like each other is NOT the worst thing you’ll have to explain to your kids. Wait till the puppy you got them for Christmas dies. Ho boy. I mean if you are homophobic monsters you can just say they are freaks and they will grow up to be like you. Win win situation.
I want to draw gaston/lefou rule 34 :( but but, gaston makes it hard to do. He was such a…..well……..a bad guy…………..sigh……….
