Posted 14 years agoJust got back to Chicago, still unpacking luggage and f-e-e-l-i-n-g-s. Long story short, my friends just happen to be the coolest, funniest, most talented, sharp, good-hearted furries in the USA. I feel very happy and privileged to get a chance to hang out for a few brief days a year.

Talkin' bout pop music
Posted 14 years agoThe new Lady Gaga album: Whoa god what a mess. Really weird and cobbled together from disparate musical elements with like... no thought to whether they even work together on a theoretical level. Foundationally following really boring synth trends. Melody non-existent. The gay pandering...
The new Beyonce album on the other hand is immensely interesting and daring and crazy and enjoyable. Actual singing. Fun weird production. Mel-O-dee people. Halleluiah.
I like this Adelle lady. She has an infernal voice and good taste in music she likes to revive/imitate.
Haven't heard the new Britney Spears. Probably won't like it. Just guessing.
Odd Future are very talented but young males misdirecting their insecurity as aggression toward women might be the most boring thing in the universe. Especially redundant in a hip hop setting.
Ke$ha is lame and sucks. Katy Perry is more lame and sucks more than Ke$ha. Even though Katy Perry has had C+ decent songs written on her behalf and KeSha's music is old liquid garbage in the hot sun.
Lot of good stuff coming from Korea lately. Male groups improving. Kara doing cute. F(x) writing a song called "Sweet Witches" which turns out to be fuggin' great.
What else? I dunno. Bring up an act in the comments and I'll write a bitchy little statement about them. I'm serious about this Beyonce album. It's fantastic.

Posted 14 years agoSo the boyfriend and I went to Art Chicago, a huge contemporary art exhibition in River North. It was massive, with lots of exciting, stimulating work. I was surprised to find work by a friend of ours (we met while studying in France), the Taiwanese painter Yi Hsin Tzeng. Surprised because I didn't know her work would be there, not surprised that she should be included. Her painting/collage is shocking, hilariously funny, unpretentious and mesmerizingly beautiful. Y'all should check her out.

Posted 14 years agoSo the new GYD! page is up. Night scenes are difficult and I'm kind of winging it as I go along. Mixed results but sometimes you just have to jump out of your comfort zone and do it! I'm getting better, at least. GYD! isn't some epic masterpiece that needs to be perfect and I need to use it to challenge myself more.
Since I've moved to Chicago I have neglected my furries pretty shamelessly. So I'm going to Atlanta tonight for a week, with a side detour in Savannah Sunday-Tuesday while I'm in-between jobs to hang out with the folks, my best buddies from school and FA. I want to just pencil pencil pencil GYD and sketch out some paintings while I'm there. I'm re-vamping my series of "job" paintings as a series of tiny tiny little portraits so I can make lots and lots of them for cheap. I dunno, maybe 20 or so by AC.
Future projects... I'm not re-printing GYD! in mini-format at home. Instead I'm building up a backlog and having them printed as a large-format book. It's too much hassle and expense to serialize them as minis.
I hope to have a second Tea+Bread book done by AC.
Also I MIGHT have a smut mini from material I'm working on for artdecadmonthly.com.
