    AC Hotel booking /discussion
Posted 15 years agoHas anyone started booking hotels for Anthrocon next year? I'd like to get a good room with some friends squared away soonish. I would have booked my own, but I just plain don't have the money to put down on the deposit.
Ideally I'd like to glomb onto a friend with a room that isn't mega mega crowded. I'm always thrift-concerned but last year my room had l-gosh- like thirteen people in it at one point. Eight might be the limit.
Let's discuss!

Commission update
Posted 15 years agoHUGE bummer update
Posted 15 years agoI'm most likely not going to be able to make it to Furry Weekend Atlanta this year. I'm not at all happy about this outcome. I have a professional opportunity going on the same weekend and I would be crazy not to go for it. Full disclosure: I will be tabling at C2E2 in Chicago with my friend . This has everything to do with my conflict between embracing "furry" and being a professional cartoonist. Becky and Frank are absolute professionals and incredible friends and I don't ever want to miss a chance to learn from (and let's be real, party with) them. I wouldn't be the artist I am today without their help and I just had to say "yes" to their offer. This should not be seen as a repudiation of the scene and the friends that I like so much. I am seriously torn up about this. I wanted very badly to go back to Atlanta (in a small way my stomping grounds) especially in a year when a lot of my "furry" friends are deciding to try the con out and show them the ropes. FWA was my first and favorite furcon last year and I was absolutely looking forward to going. Like a whole lot. But business is business and I have to regretfully bow out this year.

GO BERNIE GO!
Posted 15 years agoQuestions about commissions/Iron Artist
Posted 15 years agoSince yesterday, my queue for commissions is exactly zero. I've actually been really bad at soliciting more than one or two people at a time in the past. Maybe it's my style or my not engaging the social aspect of FA very broadly. Whatever my shortcomings, I need to pay the darned rent.
I'm wondering how one sets up an iron artist challenge. I'm up to the task, but I'm almost certain I would only generate interest from two or three people, not the whole 100. Has anyone out there completed a challenge? How did you attract participants? I'm willing to lower my prices, streamline my process and maybe take out a frontpage ad. What else could I do to reel people in?

This being my hometown con was a disadvantage, seeing as how Rosemont is in the middle of nowhere. It was hard to party when I had a reasonable expectation of sleeping in my own bed. Responsibilities complicated things anyway.
Now I'm just looking double-forward to FWA next year. 'Ta!

Pornography for geography nerds...
Posted 15 years agoMy boyfriend and I like to watch this together.
"There go the Napoleonic wars."
"Look, Finnish independence!"
"Who, shit! Lithuania!"
My local watering hole has geography trivia on tuesday nights. I take an enthusiastic interest, but he's really, really good.

Posted 15 years agoMy friend
is in a bit of a pickle and is able to draw in exchange for a little monetary relief. She is sweet and talented and she'll doodle something so CUTE for you. It would make my day, even more than hearing Kate Bush laughing with a little bird, if some of y'all commissioned her. It'll be worth it!

Posted 15 years agoSo I'm planning an outing to the city Saturday night, and I'd love for some fursuiter friends to come along!
It will involve riding the blue-line from the con hotel into my west Chicago stomping grounds (specifically, Bucktown and Logan Square), starting at a candy/milkshake/sundae place and ending at a 24 hour Mexican restaurant with two or three dingy hipster dive bars in between. It will probably be invite-only for practical reasons, but I'm keeping an open mind. Would anyone be willing to give up their Saturday night at the con to get plastered in fursuit with me in Chicago?
The probable itinerary includes:
Margie's Candies (late-night candy and milkshake shack)
Gallery Cabaret (Quiet, small eccentric neighborhood bar)
The Map Room (Beer bar)
Cole's (Crowded, spacious and cheap hipster joint)
Restaurante El Charro (24 hour Mexican)
All of these places will be walking distances from one another and near El stops (Western and California Blue, specifically) for anyone who needs to get back to the con at any hour, and there's a small possibility that one or two trusted people might be able to crash at my place if the half-hour or so back to the hotel on the train is just too much for your drunken self. Who's into this idea?
PS I love my under 21 furry friends, but all these bars check ID and it may be a wasted trip for y'all who ain't grown yet. Keep this in mind.

Posted 15 years agoGYD has to take another break for a little while. I'm depressed and going through a really nasty art block. Don't know when it's really going to let up. I can't even pick up a pencil without wanting to fling it across the room in disgust.
I am writing a new short story though. Trying to tie together a cogent metaphor between lycanthropy, hydrophobia and the menstrual cycle. I'll start drawing again once it's done.
Wish me luck.

THERE'S ALWAYS SOMETHING
Posted 15 years agoWindow smashed in. Car burgled. Valuables absconded with.
On top of that becoming an Illinois resident is an expensive, bureaucratic nightmare. I wish I could say that I'll never move to a broke-assed state again, but every state in the union is fucking impoverished. But when I moved to Georgia I never had problems getting mail, registering my car, finding a place to park it, etc. Here it's all about finding some secret code to pay for a special sticker before you're made to pay out the nose for not being in the know. Here it's seriously uncertain weather or not I can get even a simple letter from home or a bill or whatever in the mail.
The money never comes in fast enough. There's always something holding you back from saving up and making something of yourself. There's also nothing that can be fixed by being negative. Just keep going. Got to keep going.

GO YE DOGS! updated
Posted 15 years agoYESSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Posted 15 years agoBig Go Ye Dogs! news
Posted 15 years agoSooooo... I'm staring Go Ye Dogs! over. Like... all over. I've rushed into the strip from the beginning, otherwise I would have never even started. I've fretted so much about the characters I've shoe-horned them into a plot I hadn't thought through. I've tied one hand behind my back with an awful cramped format that doesn't allow any tension or creativity. I hadn't given myself enough time to design the costumes. I'm rushing. Plus coloring on the computer for me is a very dull, joyless exercise. So I'm starting over... from the beginning.
The layout will resemble a typical comic in portrait format. There will be more panels and more space for them to breathe. I'm not letting myself get lazy about my environments. I'm keeping the good things and tossing the unnecessary ones. I'm filling in the grays by hand. Please trust me. This is already working out for the better. Page one already has more energy and passion than the last month of the strip. I'd appreciate it if y'all came back to square one with me on this one. You will be rewarded.
