New Year, New Collie
Posted 10 months agoHowdy y'all!
It's been a few busy months for me going into the new year and so much has changed for me personally...
For starters, I bought a house!! I never thought that at the age of 25 I would be a homeowner, but all the hard work and saving that went into this finally paid off! It was such a grueling process but just short of Christmas, I finally closed and have been adjusting to living on my own. As someone who's so used to noise, it's always so weird how... quiet it is. Still super surreal even into the new year as I'm still getting things set up. The place needs a lot of love, but it's mine all the same <3
I've never been one for new resolutions, but I honestly want to get back into art and writing. Since I'm now on my own it means that I can do things freely and on my time. I don't expect to get into it right away, with house improvements and obligations, but I definitely want art and writing to be a priority for me this year moving forward!
I've meet so many great people this year too, with some I've gotten to know a bit better. It honestly makes me so happy! I was at my lowest a few years ago and I can't imagine how so many aspects of my life improved since then. I love my job and am well paid and respected (ironic as I work retail), have two loving partners, great friends (both irl and online), and now — homeowner!! I literally can't be happier and my heart skips a beat thinking about it sometimes!
Despite being a realist, I always try to think on the bright side of things and I think it's paying off!
Hopefully we'll all have a great year moving forward. Spreading my good vibes out to you! And as always, stay safe out there <3

Locking and Moving Off Twitter
Posted a year agoY'all are probably flooded with these journals but I'm locking up my Twitter account and shifting my focus over to Bluesky and Mastodon. I probably won't delete it just yet, but it's incredibly disheartening to say the least.
If you haven't already I'll link the handles for you to easily follow. May y'all be safe and loved in time to come <3

Back!
Posted a year agoWhat a rollercoaster these past few days have been, eh? Ngl I didn't realize I would be going through several stages of withdrawal not having FA to look at throughout the day. It kind of sucked....
I'm really glad the site and all the Twitter accounts are under control again. Hope the person that did this gets karma served right back at 'em! Absolutely deplorable especially given Dragoneer's passing.
Also thought I'd remind folks that you can find me elsewhere!

Midwestern Collie Goes to Anthrocon
Posted a year agoCollie goes back to Pittsburg for more AC!
I'll be there the whole weekend from Thursday to Sunday, and hopefully it'll be another banger! I've been working restlessly and I really need a vacation from the grindstone.
Till then, stay safe! <3

Midwestern Collie goes to MFF
Posted 2 years agoAt the end of the month, I'll be heading off to MFF! It'll be my first time going, but I'll be with friends that have more experience with the convention so I have that going for me.
I'm really looking forward to it, and getting the chance to meet up with more furs!
We'll be heading in via train and be around Thursday afternoon to leaving late Sunday afternoon/ early evening.
I've been personally putting in a lot of hours and keeping my nose to the grindstone to make sure I have a nice time at the convention, so despite being almost ridiculously tired most of the time, it'll be worth it!
I've met and interacted with so many nice furs since Anthrocon so I look forward to maybe crossing paths with some of you!
Till then, stay safe! <3

Bluesky / Mastodon + Updates
Posted 2 years agoIn a weird turn of events, I now have a Bluesky account! I've been on there for a little bit and I have to say that I like it. I haven't uploaded anything on the platform yet, but if you like seeing this collie figure out what he's doing and happen to have an account, you can check out my profile via this link!
https://bsky.app/profile/curtollie.bsky.social
I have also been on Mastodon and had some pretty cool interactions there. I wished I had done a little more research before setting up my account, (as the federation system was initially confusing for me) but it's not really a deal breaker. So if you like you can check me out there too!
https://mastodon.social/@Curtollie
You can still find me on Twitter / X, as there are some people who still haven't made it to either platform. So I will still be there until Elon burns it to the ground.
Some general updates, I recently started drawing again. I never realized how burnt out I was when I graduated from university. I've been studying illustration and fine arts for 5 years, and the constant output and demand it took out left me so mentally exhausted that I basically clocked out of that department after I graduated. Whenever I would try and sit down to draw, I... couldn't do anything. I just sort of stared at the page, pencil in hand, and... nothing. It seriously sucks when you want to create something but don't have the fortitude and energy to go through with it.
Ironically, spontaneously going to AC kick-started everything for me. It's like a switch flipped on and I am able to draw again, albeit slowly. I've even started to bring a sketchbook to work so I can draw whatever comes to mind (mainly studies, but you have to start back somewhere). I've even picked up writing again, something I haven't touched for years. Revisiting some of the old stories that I wrote, I never realized how close some of them were to completion. I'm currently writing a new story idea and I am halfway through writing that rn, but I at least plan to have all of them done by the end of the year. I think it's a noble goal to achieve!
I have also been sitting on some commissions that I've... well... commissioned. I also plan to upload those relatively soon as well.
Thanks for reading if you've read through this and stay safe! <3

The Anthrocon Experience
Posted 2 years agoSo last weekend I took a deep plunge and decided to head to Anthrocon. This was not only my first convention out of state, but the first one since the pandemic struck. It would've been Midwest Furfest in 2020, but... you know...
Needless to say, Anthrocon and Pittsburg was an unforgettable experience. I had such a great time and met so many different people; I've even met some friends of which I didn't even know were furries! I felt so comfortable that I felt like I could breathe and finally relax a bit. I wanted to write this journal earlier while my thoughts and feelings were still fresh, but the post-con depression snuck up on me as well as resuming work and taking care of other things. Anyways, I thought I should write this down in case anyone wanted to read this.
I had such a fantastic time and I'm making plans on heading to Midwest Furfest later this year. I'll make another journal when that comes more near but you can expect me to be there! :)
I guess that's all I really wanted to say. Thanks for reading if you have and have a good one! <3

I DID IT!
Posted 2 years agoI graduated from university at the beginning of this month and it is just now sinking in that I have finally graduated.
It was a long time coming, filled with a lot of hardship and tribulations. I'm so lucky to have this community (even if I am not the most active participant) and look forward to what the future holds. Maybe I'll actually start posting my works in due time!
For those that reached out, thank you so much for your support. I really appreciate it!
