Tomorrow is going to kick ass
Posted 19 years agoYus yus, tomorrow is the long-awaited (for me at least) Cardiff Halloween furmeet. We have a good plan of action set up, my camera's battery is fully charged, and I oculdn't be more psyched if I tried :D
We're expecting about 20 maybe 30 furs to attend, but however many turn up, it's sure to be an awesome day. We'll be going bowling, eating out, and cinema going. Maybe we'll all go out to a club afterwards, may get a few funny looks from people, what with the tails and all XD I got me a snake-like tail to wear, so things should be fun.
Expect a full update along with some choice pics tomorrow :D

Holy Shit, what are the odds
Posted 19 years agoWell well well, last night was very interesting. I went to a house party for "GRIMSoc" members (that being Cardiff University's Goth, ROck, Industrial and Metal Society) as it was a halloween party and the prez's 21st bday. I went dressed as a chav and had a merry old time.
However, when I got there, there was someone in FULL FURSUIT. A wolf no less, and very adorable it was too. So I got to talking to the guy, and yes he is a furry, not just a jock in a halloween costume.
I was like: HOLY SHIT! Unfortunately, I had no camera on me, and I've completely forgotten his name >_< Ah well, mayhap he will be at the halloween furmeet ^_^
Christ, small world isn't it?

As you probably know, I have never been particularly pleased with the quality of my toony work. Everything is taken from a side on view, as I could never EVER get the hang of doing 3/4 views a la toony, with the exception of a couple of times of dumb luck >_<
However. This is about to change soon, and change for good, as (touch wood) I seem to have adapted myself to being able to do 3/4 views :o But most interestingly enough, Cym when drawn this way looks like he's been drawn by a different artist. I'm really shocked (but pleased) about how he looks from this view.
Why no pic? Because its nearly 2 o'clock in the morning, I'm tired and I've spent the past 2 hours trying to perfect the technique, and doing it over and over again to make sure it wasn't a fluke each time >_< I'll be inking and colouring the pic over the next couple of days probably. Don't expect anything messianic, but it won't look like anything I've drawn before ;)

Cym Getting a Fursuit? Could be.... Could be....

Hello there, and thankyou very much for your email. I'm very glad you like my work, and I'd love to build a suit for you - I haven't had the chance to work on a dragon for a while, and I'd love to have a go at your character. To answer your first question, yes, I'm UK based.
My most toony suits would probably be these ones:

However, if you want a more cartoony look than that, then I'm willing to give it a go.
June 2007 or thereabouts should be a good start time - I wouldn't be able to begin right away anyway, as I'm booked up until around Febuary as it is.
I shouldn't think the dreadlocks should add too much to the price, but the wings might, depending on how big and complex they are. I could probably have them carved out of foam and attached to the bodysuit back, if that's okay with you. I wouldn't be able to manage movable wings though, so I hope you don't mind that they'd just be static. I would estimate around $670 for the whole thing. I'll also need to know whether you want indoor out outdoor feet, since that has a small effect on the price. I might also have to take into account the tail size as well, since it's so large it might well go above the usual $30 tail cost - overall you might be looking at a cost of about $700.
I'm also curious as to what sort of fabric you want for the character. Obviously I work with fur as a default, but if you want a more scaly look I then I could try other fabrics such as faux snakeskin - this will show seams, though, while fur won't.

Post Meet Up Blues
Posted 19 years agoOk, meeting up with Leon was one of the best things that I've ever done, I had an amazing time, but I am now suffering from the blues.
Why? Because now that I've spent time with a furry in RL, I want to be around furs in rl ALL THE TIIIIIME!!!! RAAAAGHH!!! The Halloween furmeet cannot come quick enough >_<
'course, the problem is, once thats done, the post-meet blues will be even stronger XD
And I'm getting increasingly desperate to have my own fursuit and wanting to go to AC 07, but I don't wanna go til I get a suit, for obvious reasons, and of course I won't be able to realistically afford a fursuit until the end of next year probably at the earliest. Then I'll have to save up to get a flight to the states, so you probably won't see me at AnthroCon until 2009 or 2010 at the earliest, which fucks me off to be frank.
I've also be torturing myself by watching countless fursuit vids on YouTube, and just gawking at the amazing time these furs are having. I WANNA PIECE OF THAT ACTION GODDAMMIT!! *shakes fist in anger*
Fortunately, I have yet to see a red and orange dragon with long-ass dreadlocks, so at least when I DO get a suit (and believe me, I WILL) I'll be one of the most unique playas on the furry block :D :D

I met up with Wuff, or rather I didn't cuz his fursona's name is Leon >_< Wuff was his msn screename XD He's a wolf, so nows you know ;)
Met him at Cardiff train station, the first half hour or so was a little awkward, as you would probably expect, but things picked up quite quickly :) :) We spent a couple of hours wandering around town, and then went to see Open Season, which was nice :)

I am meeting up with a fellow fur tomorrow in Cardiff, his name is Wuff, and I've just spent the last 3 hours talking to him via msn
He seems like such a sweetheart, we just clicked as we were talking, and we decided to meet up, I've only known him for a day!! But he's cute and likes fatfurs, and has a bit of a gut himself, I'd be mad not to meet him :)
He talked to me because I said on the UkFur boards that I was going to the furmeet, and we've just had so much fun talking to each other.
Could Cym have found love? I'd like to think so, but we'll have to see how things go tomorrow, won't we!

Why Last Night Was Shitty
Posted 19 years agoOk, as promised, here is why last night was royally shit.
I went out for a night on the town with Cardiff GRIMsoc, that is Goth, Rock, Industrial and Metal society. Y'know, my usual tuesday night party time. All was going well, we went to the pub, had acouple of drinks, and then merrily strolled down to Clwb Ifor Bach (or the Welsh Club for those without the necessary bilingual skills >_< )
Once inside I ordered a drink, set it down, went to the toilet and came back. Halfway through my drink I felt extremely dizzy, I almost fell over. I sat down, only to have to run to the toilets again, but this time to eject the contents of my stomach into the bowl.
Yes thats right, some dickless little shit-monger had spiked my drink with an unknown narcotic substance. As a result, I had to get a taxi home early, and spend a restless night tossing and turning in my bed and intermitedly running to the toilet in quiet desperation.
As I type this I have the mother of all headaches and still feel like I've been dragged through a rosebush backwards, whilst being hit repeatedly on the head with a wet fish. So if I seem a little crabby, you'll have to forgive me >_<
*sigh* and last night was going so well.

Erm right, things are not going 100% right for me at the moment, um, friends are trying to themselves, people I care about are leaving university for the wrong reasons, my housemates have been giving me agro for being a furry, I've been really struggling with my money situation and every attempt I make at making new friends or looking for love is shot down in flames.
I guess its because I just can't find people whom I can really connect with, certainly not in RL anyways (you would not BELIEVE how rare finding furries in the real world is). I've been talking to my bro Dragomike alot recently which has been wonderful as its given me an oppurtunity to get to know someone who shares so many interests that I have, so massive thanks your way bro, love ya loads :) :)
But I have so many people that I would love to get to know better, the people I consider fatfur "legends" y'know people like Tolstoy, Blue, Pokelai, Trigger, Oz, Fanimal, Pachy, Giran et al. I still feel like an outsider in this community, I dunno, maybe its my own fault for not making the effort to get in touch with everyone :(
Obviously this is a situation that I would like to ammend, so for everyone out there, my msn is englishculshieboy[at]hotmail.com don't be a stranger, I'd love to talk, I want to get to know you all so I can truly feel like I'm a part of this wonderful community. I hope you understand :) :)

At the moment I'm not entirely sure how to feel about all of this, I don't know if I should be angry, excited, upset, thrilled, whatever.

Let's be honest, that stuff is rather boring and makes me feel that I'm giving off the impression that I'm some kind of art robot. Always churning out pictures, whilst never letting people know anything about the man behind the dragon.
So then, my real name is Iain Hutchins, (call me Iain if it helps you relax ;) ). I am a 20 year old student living in Cardiff and am currently in my final year of doing an English degree. I am bisexual, but lean towards male companionship more.
I am a buddhist but not a very devout one. The most important thing in my life is the people whom I know, and the people whom I want to know. Friendship has frequently been the only thing that gets me through life. I have a great love for anything sentimental or cute, as it make s me feel as thought life is worth living.
I am the child of an Irish mother and a Welsh father, but consider myself to be more welsh than irish. I have lived my life in England, Belgium, Ireland and now Wales. Ultimately I want to work with animals, like a zoo keeper or animal conservationist.
In case you hadn't already noticed, I love fatfurs and inflation. It is something that I had always been quiet about until I realised that there was a huge community of people who loved them just as much as me. As a result, I have attempted to integrate myself into this society, and have loved the time I have spent with you all.
I hope people will read this and see that there is more to me than just a fatfur artist, of course, there is a lot I haven't shared, but that will have to wait for another day :)

Back from hols!
Posted 19 years agoWell, I'm back from my adventures in Sunny Jordan, which was awesome, but alas I still have not got full access to the internet and am being forced to subsist on library based access!
I took my life into my own hands in Jordan, as I was in the place those British tourists were shot the day before it happened. Just thinking about it makes me realise how lucky I was not to be there when it happened.
Anywho. On the art front, things are progressing nicely, I have quite alot of pics to upload when I get full internet access back in about 2 weeks time
So what more have I done? Some piccies of O'Beast, Tomby and DM are all spruced up and ready for submission, plus! Cym has undergone a slight cosmetic change, what is it? You'll have to wait and see!

Well, I'm sitting in an internet cafe in Aman, Jordan, having a wonderful time!
Don't think though that I have neglected my art, not for one second! I have produced, (in my humble opinion) my best works yet!
So what have we got to look forward to? Cym's evil half brother, Dym! A huge balloony Cym! A Gene-Simmons tongued, Herman Li hair-d Cym, and my pride and joy, a DragoSlob Cym :D
This last piece is probably my favourite piece I've ever done, and I have spent A LOT of time on him, making him as fatty and slobby as I could, i can't wait to be able to post him up, which should be in the middle of September :D

Clearing something up
Posted 19 years agoA fair few people have been wondering how my name is pronounced, I've had suggestions like "Saim" "keem" "Kaim" "kyim" etc etc
So I will now clear up any doubt, and reveal that my name is pronounced thusly:
"Koom"
If my memory and my already shakey grasp of my homeland's language serves me correctly, it means "Valley"
So why the hell am I red and yellowy-orange, and not a greener colour like my namesake would suggest? Because I prefer red and yellowy-orange, duh!

Posted 19 years agoWell, I'm off on Saturday morning. Going on a 3 month holiday. Don't expect to see me around until September at the earliest.

Posted 19 years agoJust kidding, I've known its been here for a while. Erm, what to say though, hmmmmm. For those who don't know, I'm going to be gone for the summer from about the 10th of June, so Don't expect me to be around for about 3 or 4 months! So I apologize in advance for not commenting on anyone's work from that date onwards :(
On the plus side, I will get lots of practice with my WACOM, which I shall be recieving on my Birthday of June 14th! Can't wait to get my hands on it, and produce even more art! Needless to say, I'm going to be very busy over the summer, and hope to have tons of piccies to share with you all when I return!
Um, other than that theres not a great deal of stuff going on, my exams are finished, and I can now do what all good students should be doing. i.e partying!
