the last week of may and the first week of june were kind of an intense haze for me. i discovered some things about my mental health and neurotype and while i've been working hard throughout, it impeded my work pretty badly, and this has resulted in the work on my immense backlog being slower than i'd like but faster than i could've hoped. the problem is that "faster than i could've hoped" does not allow time for advertising for commissions, and i don't want to reflood myself like i did before because it'll lead to the same exact issue.
this is also linked to a concern i have about my work--people are not buying commissions anything like they used to. i'd like to build up a decent queue size, but business is slim right now and i really need a helping hand, whether it's spreading my commissions or my donation link. in total, i'm about $700 from scraping by. and that would leave me penniless afterwards.
i am genuinely afraid at this point that i've burned out peoples' interest in my art. it's a lot to deal with and i really do not like airing this publicly but i need help pretty badly. anything helps. please.

General | Posted a year agoso i've had this lore in the works for quiiiite a while and i've come to the conclusion that i'm kind of like... very much struggling to put the lore into art so i'll just post the lore here and elsewhere so people can see it!
The Universe is filled with Mana. Mana is the 'fuel' of magic but is also the spark that fuels life, or the soul. It accumulates like regular matter, invisibly forming regions dense with magical energy. In extreme enough conditions, and *especially* with the influence of surrounding preexisting life, this Mana can form structures complex enough to function as a sort of Boltzmann brain. This Boltzmann brain eventually forms a sense of self and realizes a corporeal body via shifting and compressing its mass into the shape that the nascent being wishes to take.
That's agod Lumina!
Luminae (singular: Lumina) were, just a couple centuries ago, commonly worshiped as gods. Their power with magic by far outstrips anything mortals can normally achieve, due to their being literally made of the stuff, but the advancement of social progress, arcanoscientific knowledge, and the oldest Luminae getting rather weary of being treated as gods instead of as people stretched across millennia caused what is now known as the Luminous Upheaval, in which most religions were abolished by the very 'gods' they were built around.
The form of any individual Lumina is largely determined by their self-perception. They are, in a way, extremely magical shapeshifters with inconsistent, situational forms that vary in consistency from 'permanent and unchanging' to 'flavor of the hour.' Some, like Dae(who is a Lumina), have unstable forms that shift with their desires--for instance, spontaneously getting pregnant, fat, or whatever else. (If you were wondering what the deal was with all of the Dae forms, that's what's going on there!) Transition is generally rather simple for Luminae in terms of the actual material processes, but is more complex on the mental front--it can take a very long time for a Lumina to envision and integrate a new, comfortable form as their default.
The Luminae are not culturally united under any one banner besides their immortality and capacity for magic both literal and figurative, and typically reflect the culture they manifested nearest to or grew closest with in their formative years. In galactic society, most Luminae either spend their time like anyone else or are just here to have a good time; with most highly-populated galactic territories having instituted some form of Communism or another, infrastructure has become so efficient and easy to maintain that the labor of maintaining civilization requires a bare minimum of work. Civilization is in a time of plenty.
Luminae are generally, but not always, capable of asexual reproduction. The ancient Luminae were universally capable of this, and it's commonly theorized that this asexual reproduction was the origin of intelligent life--the various species favoring the forms their Luminae ancestors took. Modern Lumina offspring tend to have far higher Mana reserves than the average mortal at about 5% versus the mortal average of 1% (although that average has many, many exceptions--magical prowess does not necessarily come from being born to a Lumina, and being born to a mortal does not mean you cannot surpass the offspring of a Lumina in magic).
On rare occasions, a mortal's body may be destroyed but their soul is not. If their soul is resilient or their Mana plentiful enough, their soul may form their Mana into a new body, essentially becoming a Lumina with wildly smaller Mana reserves. first off, i'll be trying my best to actually post finished art more often! finished YCHs will henceforth go into my scraps, to serve as examples for how my YCHs turn out without putting a ton of similar images into my gallery. i've already got a couple there, check 'em out! (the xeiskenn fans out there will probably like one of them!)
it's also been a sort of soft policy for a little while but my gas stuff now instead goes into my main gallery! i'm not really embarrassed about finding farting hot anymore so this'll keep things nice and orderly

i've been holding up pretty alright in the wake of my grandpa's passing and have mostly sorted out my emotions on it. i am still in mourning, but the worst, so far as i can tell, is over.
as for my birthday, it was really good! there was a bit of an emotional damper put on it by circumstance, but it is what it is. i've received a few gift arts; i plan to upload one of the pics sometime soon, if i remember, as the person that gave it to me requested that i post it. if you've drawn gift art for me and i didn't see it, link it in the comments or send it to me via a note! thank you to everyone that drew (or even bought me art! like. wow, that's new, thank you so much!!)
i'm still taking it easy, but art will be continuing apace if i'm able! i'm in a place of relative financial stability for the moment so i can slow down a smidge and work on some owed stuff. i appreciate your patience; if i owe you anything and haven't talked about it in the past month-ish, contact me about it! (models will take time, i haven't forgotten them i promise)

4 Years of Dae!

In that time, I've gone on a complete rampage of accumulating art of her. I've met amazing artists, made amazing friends, and have iterated on her design, made new forms, created an entire related species, and more.
Currently, I have saved approximately 3,450 pictures of her, and there are doubtless far more in existence that I haven't saved.
As of the 4th Dae day, I have reached a rate of 2.36 Daes per day on average!
I didn't really have a big point in mind to all this, but I thought I'd share!
