So life goes on.
Posted 10 years agoHaven't really been around here lately, seems like I haven't been in my own head honestly. A lot seems to have happened yet nothing has moved. Might as well start someplace.
Early September I had gotten a call that our server at work had gone down, since I'm in the IT department as one of my many duties now I had to go in to check. When I got there I ran through the usual suspect issues, the server power and cooling was fine for a change so it had to be the cables coming in off the street (not the first time we'd blown ow the T1 card due to the environment that it's stored in) When I got to the utility closet where the cables run, fire alarm, internet, plumbing and such, I found out that an employee I somewhat knew had hung himself there. So I had the 'joy' of calling the police, dealing with EMT's and detectives (which is nothing like on TV) and got a days off from the trauma. Was forced to see a trauma counselor by my best friend. That seemed to have started a cycle of death around me. Since then I've had 2 aunts pass away, my friend lost 2 of her grandparents who I knew rather well.
So there's been a lot of death and depression around me and has really been getting into my head. Mix that with the stress at work in general and I haven't been eating, sleeping, or really been myself lately. I hardly check my phone for messages so I'm missing or forgetting about ones that have been sent.
Work, well there have been a lot of layoffs with the oil industry taking such a dive, don't get me wrong I like having to pay less than $2 a gallon but it also means that there is no off shore oil drilling being done so my company takes a massive hit in contracts and work load. In the last year we've gone from over 400 employees down to roughly 80, the only way I've been able to keep my job is by taking on extra work from some of our sister plants. I am now assisting 2 other plants with their purchasing needs with another one that may require my help after letting one of their agents go. I also heard that corporate has given us 1 year to turn a profit or they'll close the doors where I work .... so yeah no stress there.
That's all for now, who knows may be another year before my next update.

This shit storm I call life
Posted 10 years agoSo yeah, been a bit since I've updated so here's just a brief run down, want to know more ask me in private since I'm not one to overly public about my issues.
Been working in purchasing since my promotion, doing well at it in my opinion and we haven't had any major issues like the last guy. My boss comes to me for help often since I've been with the company a lot longer then he has. Late last year I also took on the local IT functions, though corporate IT hasn't given me much 'power' I still do end user support and trouble shooting that they can't or won't do remotely.
So far I've survived 3 rounds of layoffs because of my training and knowledge, seems they don't care about seniority lately since I'm going on 9 years at the plant. Found out another round is coming up and soon, starting to wonder how much longer I'll survive these the way things are going. In the mean time I'm taking on as much as I can to be as useful as possible to make it harder to get rid of me.
The New England winter as most know has been extremely rough for the last 40 or so days (I'm saying mother nature was a Seahawks fan because it all started around the super bowl) tons of snow which isn't good on someone with a bad knee and shoulder to have to shovel but it's getting done because I still have places to be.
Found out back in January my older brother got arrested, not going into details on that here. Aside from that there are other things going on that I'm not getting into at the moment.

A Huge Change (for teh better for once)
Posted 11 years agoBeen keeping rather quiet about this big news so that I wouldn't jinx myself or get my hopes up but hey here's what happened.
The end of February they fired the supply/PPE purchasing agent at my company, the following Monday I was approached by the plant manager asking if I was interested in filling his position, I was the one that built both databases that both purchasing agents use on a daily basis so the raw material purchaser had put my name in as a suggestion for hiring from within the company. There were of course pros and cons to me in the job, like not having any formal training in the actual position or having any education in purchasing in general. But I submitted my application that Monday.
Tuesday I received word that I would need to send in a resume, which meant my application was being taken seriously by HR and by corporate. Banged one out on my lunch break (first one I've written since college) and turned it in to the plant manager for his review. Wednesday I had got no feed back about how good or bad the resume was so at the end of the day I sent a text to him asking if I would be called in for an interview, luckily he said yes.
Thursday I met with the current purchasing agent (who I had trained on my databases and been in touch with since he was hired back in January) sat with him for my first interview. Went over things that were expected of me, asked those 'what if' questions and such. Was supposed to take only 30 minutes lasted nearly an hour. As I was leaving I was told that it was a salary position ranging from $45K to $70K a year and that with my lack of formal training I would most likely start at the bottom end of the pay. Still higher then my hourly base pay but under what I actually made last year working 50 to 60 hour work weeks.
Friday I was called into the HR office for my second interview. This was normally the phone screening interview but since I already worked fr the company it was just easier to call me into his office and talk face to face. Out of all the interviews I did for the position I actually think this was the worst one for me since he kept hammering on my lack of experience in the purchasing field (I've worked shipping/receiving for 8 years starting as a grunt and working up to he supervisor position) Whole thing lasted 50 minutes during a busy part of my work day >.<
Saturday I was called in for my third interview with the plant manager. By far one of the easier ones since he had been pushing for me to actually get the position knowing my work ethics, skills, attendance, and such. Sat with him for about 45 minutes before he said if it came down to me and one other person he would pick me (then said he wasn't supposed to tell me that)
This week I heard little about the position, except for my boss making subtle digs and attempts to keep me from leaving the department. Monday I found out the QC supervisor was quitting and today was going to be his last day (this comes into play later) Tuesday I was called into the department head's office for a fourth interview and a 'brain storming' session about what would be expected, what was realistically going to happen for me and all that fun stuff. 5 minute meeting lasted 30 minutes >.< again these things always seemed to happen during the busy part of the day.
Wednesday I was asked to go back onto the safety committee (got off it for a whole 5 months) so yay more work for me to do if I get the purchasing job or not. Thursday I was approached by the QC manager about taking the QC supervisor job, I've never had so many people asking me if I wanted to fill in for so many different positions before. I had to start weighing out the options what was best for me, my life and such. Had a fifth interview this time with HR again going over things like where I'd fit best, who I wanted to work for, and what would be the best as a career move for me. I kept leaning towards the purchasing job (which they upped the offered salary by $10K a year) because of it being a good career move for me in the long run.
Thursday afternoon I had a call from the plant manager saying that I would have my contract letter for the purchasing position on my desk Friday (today) with the offer of $55K a year (cause they wanted to encourage me to go into purchasing more then QC) 5 sick days a year, and 3 weeks vacation time. It's good to see that I'm being recognized as a valued member of the company finally, I know I'm walking into a hell of mess left from the last guy but I have confidence that I can handle it and make the job my own.

Yup, again.
Posted 12 years agoSo yeah, a lot of things going on right now in my life at the moment. Something new now, I'm not holding back cause of pride, or whatever someone assumes I don't talk. I am actually under a legal gag order not to talk about what is going on in my life. been going on for a bit mixed with all the other 'little' things going on in my life I'm starting to wonder if I'm finding my limit or if I'm just pushing myself to see what happens.
So ... yeah
Posted 12 years agoStill not dead yet, though not sure why at this point. Been working a hell of a lot lately including 13+ hours the last two days. Not feeling 100% and been dealing with a lot of shit in my life that I really don't want/need to be but still trudging along at this point. Haven't had a full day off since early August (if not July) but am finally going on my annual vacation to the Fryeburg fair next week. Looking forward to a week in Maine with my father and being out of cell phone contact with most of the world (Thankfully there is only 2 places in my father's house that actually gets signal) Oh, and going to the Volbeat concert tonight in Lowell and hoping there is a mosh pit to get violent in. Really need to blow off some of this steam I've had to keep bottled up. Vague I know but anyone that really knows me knows I don't like talking in detail about what is going on in my life in a journal.
yeah...
Posted 12 years agoNothing like being reminded just how useless I am.
Happy Memorial Day
Posted 12 years agodamn...
Posted 12 years agoThis is one day I'm glad I was forced to work instead of doing what I had planned. Was going to see the boston marathon today but couldn't cause I had to work. Been listening to radio reports of 2 explosions that went off at the finish line
this is my life....
Posted 12 years agoThings haven't been right for a long while now at home, at work, with firends and such.. No I'm not going to vent, rant or rave to much in this journal.
I am starting a search for a new job, just so tired of my boss and his playing favorites with the hispanic guys to the degree I'm about ready to see if I can sue for racism. They are redoing the office, I hate it but ok we're limited on space at the moment, and I'm losing my work area now, I've been put at a counter and was promised i'd get a bar stool or something to sit on. And now today my boss tells me I'm expected to do my work standing up for 8 hours a day. I can't do that with my bad knees, so now I need to get a doctors note or something to justify being able to sit down as I work.
It's bad enough that as people have quit working here I've been given parts of their jobs. I now do: some accounting work, all receiving, all shipping, truck driving, forklift driving, programming, safety, iso audits, sectary work, and more all for the same rate I was making 3 years ago. I'm done, anyone know of a place in Mass that's hiring? I got nothing against sweeping floors even as long as it pays my bills.

Blizzard prep
Posted 12 years agoSo, lucky me I'm in the part of mass scheduled to get between 18 and 36 inches of snow (depending on which weather channel you believe) so I figured yesterday would be a good day to stock up on storm supplies. On my shopping list 2 cases of beer, why? Cause I live in New England and am smart enough to have 2 weeks canned food (and a nonelectric can opener) batteries, a gas stove, small generator, lots of frozen meat (everything from fish to venison), 20 gallons of gas, shovels, rolls of plastic, 5 gallons of desil, plenty of books to read, a gas grill, a tail gating grill, and lots of propane for both.
I mean really, if you live in an area where you know shit hits the fan often why not live prepared for it so you don't run around with the idiots grabbing up last minute supplies?
More people need to learn the 7P's
Proper prior planning prevents piss poor performance.

a real quickie update
Posted 12 years agoI may do one with actual details later but here's my last few months in a few lines.
My brother moved in with me to find work (back in september) still unemployed and playing xbox in his room.
Went to maine for the week around my birthday in october.
Stayed in my area for thanksgiving (spent with the usual family that invites me over to set up their christmas lights)
Went to maine for christmas saw all the siblings, neices and nephew.
Home for new years (had to work new years day again)
was at a funeral Saturday when I heard about my grandmother in an accident with a drunk driver. Went to maine to see what was going on for the weekend. She's fine, 80+ and still shovels snow off her roof in maine so tough woman.

Something is off
Posted 13 years agoBeen a while since my last update, not much going on really. Still pulling 12+ hours a day for a company that doesn't care about its employees (still say any company that views its workers as 'units' and not people is a shitty company) end of year is coming up so if anything the work load is going to increase rather then decrease.
On a more personal note haven't really been feeling like myself lately, not sure what's going on but I do know my mind is doing something it shouldn't. That being said been covering it up pretty well so those around me don't fully realize what's going on. I'm thinking it may be time to resume working on a few of the older writing projects that I put aside. Time will tell I guess.
Just letting my mind ramble this morning

And I figure why not
Posted 13 years agoAnd I'm back.... Sorta
Posted 13 years agoSo I'm back from my weeks vacation another year older but none the wiser. Thought I'd do an update I've been putting for for quite a while but figured why bother. If you want to know whats been going on with me drop me a message, txt, im, note any of them work really.
Short update is that I've been working 12 hour shifts 5 to 6 days a week then working at my side business at the race track. Managed to do an 81.5 hour week right before vacation so have been very quiet and tired lately.

I'm not dead
Posted 13 years agoat least not yet....
So yeah it's been a long while since my last update so just thought I'd throw a quick one up. Work got really busy to the point that after three weeks in a row I'll have worked 200+ hours at my manufacturing job and a few days at the business I've been working on starting up. I managed to refinance my house to a 2.87% rate dropping my payments about $150 a month so that's a life saver and my car is almost paid off.
That's it for now, maybe I'll do a real update later, not sure yet.

Program for Sale
Posted 13 years agoOk so here's what's going on, I've got a few artist friends that have asked me to help keep track of their commission work so instead of making lists I came up with an easy to use system that they can keep and update on their own. Quick and easy to instal and learn how to use. I will work with you on how to get the system up and running, provide tech support and continue to work with you on updating and modifying the program as your needs evolve. I will do everything I can to customize the program for you colors, pictures (I will use pictures you provide me with if you wish to have a much more personal feel to your program), layouts, wording, custom fields, and even detailed reports can be created and used on the program. Prices will start around $5 for the most basic of databases (the one pictured in the sample) and will increase in price as the difficulty of the project increases. I will also accept art trades for the programs. Send me a note here and we can figure things out. Just a note these are Microsoft Access Database programs and I will provide the runtime official download link so that they can be used.
I personally think this will work for both artists and writers (and anyone else really cause I can change up databases easily enough)

So lets recap
Posted 13 years agoThe last few weeks have been a real pain in the ass. So the 4th or the 5th I got a flat tire driving home from work, not in the best part of the town to get one but it didn't really bother me. Got out in the dark and cold to try and change it. Come to find out that the place I bought my full size spare from sold me the wrong size. Luckily since I have had issues before I kept my spare tire that came with my car in the first place. Changed it out using my air compressor as a flash light then finally made it home. Went and got the tire patched at my neighbors shop, no problems there. Went to the place I bought the rim from and had them order me a new one at no charge to me. Took a week for the damn thing to come in. So last Saturday I went back to have them try the rim on before I would take it. Come to find out it STILL doesn't fit so they have to order yet another one and they are trying to say that it'll cost more money. To which I replied that since this is their third attempt they better not plan on billing me for the extra. So I have my small spare still in my car, the first tire is patched and I'm waiting on the rim and tire I paid for to come back in so I can make sure they didn't fuck up AGAIN. That's the issue with my tire.
I have a worker I had to put on report last week cause he was saying he wasn't going to work the rest of the day (said that at like 10:30AM and he was scheduled to work until 1PM) Having the issues with my car I wasn't planning on taking any bull shit from him so I went right over the person above me (cause he's a useless lead person anyways and is to afraid to do anything about this person) and to the department manager. Who just happened to be the workers cousin. I put the guy on report and since then he's been very immature towards me and I just really don't give a shit, I ignore him and go about my job as usual. This guy thinks he's bugging me by making sounds as I walk past, talking about me in his native language. I shrug it off cause I know he's much easier to replace then I am and I've already warned that if something isn't done about him then I will be going to HR about how he is creating a hostile working environment (considering he's the one that tried to hit me with a forklift and I got written up for it)
Work has cut everyone back down to 40 hours a week, it sucks cause I've been doing so good at my bills and putting money aside in hopes of actually taking a real vacation for the first time in years. Now I have to see if I can keep saving money or if I'll need it for paying bills.
Oh and yesterday my car screwed up again. Cause it got so cold the batter shit the bed and wouldn't do anything to turn over. Ended up having to get my neighbor to give me a ride into work and that sucked. After work I had to walk to the bus top, not a fun thing to do in New England in the winter time. Took the bus to a local parts store and bought a battery. Nothing like getting odd looks for carrying a battery home on the bus. But the good news is I got it installed and working again last night. Busted up my knuckles cause of the rust and shit around the battery, again doing almost anything outside this time of year really sucks working on cars included.
Well I suppose that's all I've got for now, just another scattered update about things going on around me.

Busted up my knuckles cause of the rust and shit around the battery, again doing almost anything outside this time of year really sucks working on cars included.
Well I suppose that's all I've got for now, just another scattered update about things going on around me.

So yeah, end of year inventory sucks
Posted 13 years agoSo the last few weeks has been hell for me at work and such. We were cranking away pulling 12 hour work shifts and all of a sudden it's like we hit a wall and everything just came to a crashing halt. We went from having 300+ modules on hand to only having around 50. Big drop off, the ended up cutting us back down to 8 hours and we started inventory prep.
Here's where it gets annoying for me, 12 hour shifts I can handle, hard work but it pays off the bills quicker (my car is going to be paid off a full 4 months early with the OT I've been getting) For the company we have 4 buildings. EPS storage, warehouse for chemicals, stock room supplies, and of course manufacturing. I was told that each building would have one person responsible for it. Fair enough when you also realize that anyone that fucks up their building will be fired for it. So we have roughly a $10 Million inventory total and we were allotted a variance of 0.5% roughly we could be off by $50,000 and still not get in trouble, that's between ALL the buildings.
I was stuck with the EPS storage building, first off its a 45 minute drive to that building in my own car (only good part is I was paid for the mileage so I milked about $200 out of them for 5 trips) I completed that, and lucky for me the auditor that went down with me for the counts trusted me. he counted 1 item logged that he counted 12 out of the 31 categories and that I passed 100%/. Then Friday I'm being told I have to do the warehouse and stock room buildings. Ok so much for a different person per building so no 1 person was overwhelmed with shit. Completed both those buildings in one day, had the audit counts, no such luck with getting the same auditor as the EP building. Was found to be off by $4,000 much below the allowed limit. Then I was told I was working Saturday with one other person so I could do the manufacturing building.
So it broke down to me being the lead person on all the buildings. Makes me wonder if someone is out for my job or if they were just impressed with the EP counts since for the first time ever since I was working there they were considered dead on. Well over all with all that stress and BS I had to go through the total inventory was only off by the $4,000 for the warehouse building. Not bad, I got to keep my job since I was far under the allowed variance. Just rather pissed at the added stress and shit they put me through for the few weeks of prep.
There's my end of year rant. Hope everyone survived the holidays and had fun.

randomness and what not
Posted 13 years agoSo I was cleaning out my closet this morning before work and realized I have a shit load of work shirts and what not. So I'm thinking of getting rid of most of them, considering I have like a dozen sweat shirts and hoodies. Most have my company logo on them the Cuming Corporation with the white arrow on a red background, Yes I know very dirty like most other things involving the company. There are a few with the Global Logistics Logo on them I got those from the broker that gives me free Red Sox tickets now and then. May give a few to friends but most likely I'll be keeping the ones with my name on it just cause
Yeah just a random update cause I was bored and it's been a while since I last did one.

A not so quick update of sorts
Posted 14 years agoSo I realized my last actual update was back in ... August or so. Figured it was time for at least some show that I was alive and still kicking around. So here goes a bit of a rambling update, don't know ho many will make it all the way through as I'm sure it'll be rather dull to hear.
I finally convinced my father to come down and see my house after three years of owning and doing my own repairs on it, the same one he lent me $2K for the down payment on. Turns out all I had to do was be given some really good seats to a Red Sox game and invite him down. Guess it's the first time in 5 years (since my sister's wedding) that he's been south of Portland Maine so he wasn't so sure about it. He came down and spent Friday night in my spare room then we went to the game Saturday, this was of course the same Saturday that the hurricane hit Massachusetts so right after we watched the Sox win he went back to his place to keep an eye on his house and his mother who lives with him. The hurricane hit, didn't do any damage to my house, luckily only took down a few trees that weren't that old, I didn't loose power for more then 10 minutes (have to love being on the same power grid as the local hospital, college, and post office.
Survived the eighth anniversary of my friends murder (mid august) still miss her but there isn't much that I can do about it.
September was a rather slow month, they kept me at 40 hour work weeks so I had time to get my house ready for the upcoming New England winter. My father had his 54th birthday. Hard to believe he's getting up there in age like that.
October, works was bumped up to 12 hour shifts 5 days a week again, helps with the bills I have to pay considering they never stop coming. I went to Maine to spend a week, had to escape the state as I always do for the Freyburg fair and of course I like being away from most people when my birthday hits. Somehow I managed to survive another year, got some really nice birthday arts from
bubblekitten17 found here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6644202/ and
susuke found here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6668867/ Again thank you both for the arts. Hm, not much else happened that month, my older brother had his anniversary, the fifth year anniversary of my grandfather passing and Halloween, which I already posted on here what I wore to scare small children.
November my older sister had her wedding anniversary on the 10th, still pulling 12 hour shifts though its now ranging between 6 and 7 day work weeks. Good for the bank account hell on the body. I'm also still doing as much as I can to make sure the house is ready for winter, next time I don't buy a house that's almost 40 years old and wasn't taken care of to well. Finally completed the shed in my backyard, mental note: next time something says it takes 2 or 3 people to build don't do it yourself. Yeah I'm stubborn but the damn thing is up finally. The ninth anniversary of my high school buddy taking his life went by the week before Thanksgiving. Went to Maine for Thanksgiving day, spent it with my father and the family that could make it. that included my pregnant sister, her husband and their 18month old daughter. My younger brother and his roommate, my father, his mother, and my younger two siblings, my mother and a 'friend' of hers (yeah she's in the middle of her third divorce so I have no idea what he was to her anymore) Managed to survive, luckily my mother left me alone most of the time since she was to busy being around my sister and her daughter. Of course she did have to hit me with one of her usual comments, when I told her how much I've been working lately she replied with "somehow I knew you'd end up like your father" which of course makes me wonder the meaning behind the comment since she divorced him cause of how much he worked yet he was always willing to help pay the bills for us kids. Black Friday, I refused to go out shopping so I did what I needed to online, yeah I'm really not a people person. Then that night I went to see the Trans Siberian Orchestra show down in Providence (my one big self splurge a year it seems) quite enjoyed the show and can't wait for their next album to come out. Worked Sunday, still on 12 hour shifts 7 days a week as needed.
Well that seems to be it, congratulations if I didn't mange to bore you to sleep with the rambling update.

Top Five Things
Posted 14 years agoSo I had a bit of time to think and realize just how odd things are at my job some days. Since I work at a company with a very ... unique name I figured I'd post a list of the top ten things said/posted around work that just sound dirty. I should start off by saying I work at a company named Cuming Corp.
1 They really gotta clean the holes better, there's to much shit on the rods
2 Those nuts are to far down the rod to work right
3 Man they really lubed that up so it came out smoothly
4 Deep Down to acquire Cuming
Best one ever was posted in the company newsletter
5 Cuming enable deepest drilling ever.
