Linux is great
Posted 13 years agoSo our IT guys buggered up a windows update that left Windows 7 on my school laptop unable to connect to any network whatsoever, wired or wireless. The DHCP service is screwed and I can't fix it so I went with dual booting Linux for the time being.
I went with Linux Mint as it is a user friendly OS and easy to use. I chose the Debian edition as it is a rolling distro and I've had some experience with rolling distros from running Arch Linux.
Repartitioning the drive was fun, I had to make a partitions inside a partition for a total of 7 partitions on one 250gb drive. Check out my GParted :P

So far it's been pretty good with the only major problems being flash player being buggy and not being to install Steam for Linux (I got into the beta!) because of my choice of the Debian edition over the Ubuntu based version.
As an operating system for doing work and web browsing for ABSOLUTELY FREE it's great, just mind the few hiccups with LibreOffice trying to open Microsoft Office documents.
</Jerking to linux>
If anyone really tech inclined is reading this, feel free to give any suggestions about this stupid DHCP service on windows not working. Basically I start it only to get a Error 5 Access Denied even though I am an Administrator.
Oh and one more thing, unfortunately I couldn't make it to midfur this year because I still had school that week for my year 11 orientation, hopefully I'll get there next year.

My 16th birthday today :D
Posted 13 years agoI just turned 16 today, and I'm pretty happy about it. A lot has changed for me from last year.
Exams are finally over, yay! I hated everything about them (doesn't everyone?).
Telstra's present to me this year seems to be having internet that keeps dropping out all the damn time, heaps of fun that is.
Anyway I'm having a LAN party on Friday which is going to be fun, I haven't invited more than 1 person over to my place for a while.
A friend of mine might be dj'ing at my party which will be awesome, and he's making a few songs for me for my birthday (which may end up on here with his permission). And if we decide to record any game footage it may end up on youtube somewhere.
Sorry about not making any art or anything, Art is something I suck quite a bit at and it frustrates me, I need help with that. :\
Well this was kinda random, I think I'll stop here.
