Contemporary Dance Week + Dance Series! SHAKALAKABOOYAH~
Posted 13 years agoHey all!
smilingsammi here, YOUR POOFY SAMMI DANCE DOG with this week's update! Gonna keep it short and sweet! All of these are videos I found very compelling from the SYTYCD season.
On another note, for all you CONTEMPORARY dancers and fanatics some GREAT shows to watch:
Dance Academy - Tells about the story of a young girl named Tara who gained entrance into a prestigious dance academy. A series I've been watching recently and I think it's really interesting and fun! Can be found on netflix!
All the Right Moves - A reality TV show about four professional dancers who come together to form a dance company known as "Shaping Sound." Found on the channel, Oxygen at 9 I think! (Also my teachers :DDD Teehee)
Well, I said short and sweet but I guess I lied lol... c.c ENJOY!

Lindsay and Cole's performance to Sara Berielles' "Gravity." You might remember this piece in season 5, "Addiction" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZ-1cq8ibwg. I found the new one VERY compelling and better than the original, they really pushed themselves. Courtesy of ATSU for this video, my bro!
Audrey's performance to "Sincerely Jane" with Twitch. Courtesy of Ikato~ This one is a great example of story telling with dance. Notice the expressions and movements, the little points of theatrical acting, the humor, I love this piece!
Audrey and Mathew in Travis Wall's piece, "Titanic." Compelling, an amazing sense of chemistry here, so physical and sensual; this piece has flawless transitions making their power moves look easy, jeez. They cray. Travis' choreo is cray. (*cough*myteacher:D*cough*)

So just a big ups to you guys and a heartfelt thank you. Especially to those of you who are extremely active with us.
I'm gonna drop a few videos here for you guys to view and share, I hope you like them!
Megan Lawson, an original member of Fanny Pak bringing that signature style they have. Extremely complex and musical. I really really enjoyed this piece of hers.
One of the latest videos I've seen thanks to a friend. Easily it is making it's way to my top favorite videos of all time due to the meaning and emotion behind it. Hope you all enjoy.
A housing video that I'm very fond of. Blue showed this to me and I'm already learning so much from it. I'm a big fan of the house style c:
An extra one just to make up for hte lack of updates. Parris Goebel and the Royal Family of New Zealand are some of my biggest inspiration in dance as of late. I take my time to study their "Polyswagg" style and use it in my own dancing. I'm sure you'll be able to see some of the relations if you look close enough.
They took the 1st place gold medal with this performance, over many different countries in this years Hip-Hop International Worlds.
I promise I'll get back to regular updates as soon as possible!

Atsu FawxMegaplex Recap, Future AC cypher opinions and weekly vids
Posted 13 years agoHey everyone!
here with an update for you all. I: Megaplex Dance Info
*** From what I've heard so far, Megaplex turned out to be a nice con! And most of all the dance activities planned to go on went well!
- The dance competition this year went pretty well from what I've seen!
has uploaded all the videos to her YouTube page, so you can check all of them out HERECongratulations to the winners, Matsi, DaveRab, and Zoomba! And great job to all contestants, it really was a great competition.
A big thank you should definitely go to
for running the competition this year once more! And providing a prize for first place as well as a stable system for everyone. - Another big shout out to
for choreographing and putting together the opening group performance for the competition. I'm so happy this went well even with the small amount of time that was provided. And thank you to all of those that joined in to help him! - As far as the official DF cypher goes, I didn't receive word from anyone about if it happened or not. If anyone knows I'd love to hear about it and find video! I am sorry to all those that were looking forward to this, but it was very last minute and time was against us. We are going to continue to try and set these up at every con possible for you all though!
If you know of a con you're going to that you'd like to see an official cypher at. PLEASE LET US KNOW ASAP, we'd love to help you get one going or give you info about it if there has already been one set up!
Here's the opening group performance!
II - Example Videos for Dance Styles
*** As many of you already know, we are planning to redo every single one of the styles posted on our front page possible with furry dancers. This is because we feel it will encourage others to learn by showing that it isn't just professionals doing it, we as furry dancers can as well! It also gives a bit of exposure to other furry dancers that may not be as well known due to not competing in competitions or having suits and such. :3
- We got almost all of the Hip-Hop styles done during AnthroCon from many of the dancers that were there during a small filming session we had. Expect those rather soon, I will begin editing those once I have finished solo videos for other dancers. c:
- We will also be seeking out other dancers to do other styles that we haven't grabbed already.
Here's an example of the solo videos I've been doing, since all the example video footage is on locks at the moment.
III - RainFurrest and other Con Cyphers Info
*** We're going to also be setting up an official cypher at RF this year too! Big thanks to
for being up to help set up and run this. More info will be available soon once I've worked out details with him. - There are many upcoming cons! And I'd like to do my best to try and hold cyphers at each one so that furry's have the chance to share the experience we have at AnthroCon every year at other cons as well. So please if you are going to a con in the near future and a cypher has not been set up for it, please note us immediately! We'd love any and all info about the hotel/convention center spacing, timing of things, and other such info you can provide us.
IV - Anthrocon's DancerFurs Cypher
*** During this years cypher at Anthrocon, a staff member named General Talon approached me and expressed his pleasure with the cyphers we've been running at Anthrocon. He really loves and supports the dance community and ended up offering me the Spirit of Pittsburgh Ballroom to hold the cypher at next year. I told him I'd think about it, talk it over with Blue and of course, get all of your opinions on this matter. Because this is of course for you!
So I'm gonna point out the obvious negatives and benefits that have come to me so far after discussing this with Blue. And I'd love to hear all of your input, what you think, and if you have anything to add to this list!
= as a side note, this of course would only be for the official one we hold every year. There are always multiple cyphers popping up throughout the con.
- Positives:
-Less hassle with security in using loud music, speakers, outlets and such.
-Louder Music
-More recognition for the DancerFurs group and its members
-More Space (we would clear out the chairs like they do for the nightly dances)
-It would be an official panel (people would be able to find out more about it by seeing it in the conbook)
- Negatives:
-We wouldn't be in the window space anymore (due to location move inside the ballroom)
-Not as out in the open as the old spot is
-Time constraint would most likely be a max of 2 hours (we miiiiight be able to push 3 but I doubt it)
-Could possibly be confused with another dance rather than an actual Cypher.
As far as now, this is what we have. We'd really really love to hear your feed back so let us know what you think!
Here's videos of how the past three years have been!

out! Anthrocon Report! -sorry for delay-
Posted 13 years agoHey everyone
and
here together for the first time :D We're sitting side by side writing this journal to report the amazing success of this year's Anthrocon! So sit back and enjoy the info and videos! I - The Last-Fur-One Presents: FLOOR WARS -
*** This panel was absolutely fucking amazing and blew each and every judge out of the water. A lot of us were surprised at the skill and talent that was brought to this competition. For all of us, it was extremely hard to judge the individuals, because of the well-made matches. Styles were fair and matched against their own if not similar counterparts and appropriate music selection was key. There were a lot of unique styles, a lot of variety, a great panel success and definitely something we will all shoot for in the future. This panel could not have gone better. Someone people even told us that this was the greatest panel of the entire convention, hands down. Which is extremely flattering. We were ecstatic to have such a great comment.
My (Blue) jaw dropped on the floor when I saw these dancers do moves I've never seen them do before and murder the beat! I personally felt that a lot of people improved exponentially on the spot during the heat of the battles. Everyone was amazing.
A lot of dancers who weren't as well known as others did extremely well and really took the stage and showed their stuff. Shout out to Kavi, Strobes, Sekki, Toay, Haurbus, Leonic, and Ikato for really jumping out there and not being afraid to go against some of the bigger names in the dance community. c:
A great thank you to
skyryd3r for making this panel possible by helping set it up with me (Atsu), organizing it, announcing it, also participating as one of the judges. Mega props to the other judges (besides Blue, Ronnie, and Atsu),
kwik and

II - Anthrocon's Annual Fursuit Dance Competition -
***This year's competition blew last year's out of the water not only with energy but talent. The way it was organized was absolutely fantastic, and the variety of styles was amazing! A lot of new talents emerged and are flourishing, even those that didn't make it to the final cut were incredible. We really look forward to seeing all of you suiters dance once more and see what you bring again.

***This panel was a huge success, even bigger than our first LFO workshop. We ended up teaching double the amount of knowledge in the same amount of time, due to having two teachers per style (except Waacking/Vogue). We started it off differently, and it turned out even better than how it was before. It once again ended with an amazing cypher, and we were so happy to see new as well as returning faces. There's no doubt that this will be done once again next time!

IV: - DancerFurs Cypher -
***It returned for a third year and was once again a big success. This time around it started very slow sadly but it eventually picked up! We tried starting it earlier during the day due to lighting and scheduling issues but it didn't seem to work as well in our favor due to many other events going on as well as many suiters waiting in line for their Fursuiting badges.
An Anthrocon Staff member had a chat with me (Atsu) during the event and asked me if we would like to have the official cypher held in the Spirit of Pittsburgh Ballroom next year. I of course was ecstatic and really would like to try this out. It would prevent us from having problems with security, allow us to have louder music and WAY more space, as well as it officially being on the AnthroCon panel schedule. However, it would prevent us from being able to spend a long time (2 hours is roughly how much time we would have), and it would also take away from out usual spot. Though, this is of course not to say that this would be the only cypher, as that is just impossible c: There will always be smaller random cyphers popping up through out each day of the con as seen during this years.
So what do you all think about this, should we move the official one to the large ballroom? And what do you think about timing? When would you think is the best time to do an official cypher. We'd love to hear your feed back.
Here's a compilation of this years Cypher. hope you all enjoy:
V - New Faces and the Future for This Group -
***We saw a ton of new faces with so many incredible styles at raves, cyphers, masquerade and fursuit preliminaries. We are definitely looking forward to seeing all of you once again and even more new furs at the panels and cyphers of next years Anthrocon!
Our family is growing and we are really being recognized by the rest of the furry community. There's so much love, support, comradery, challenge and effort between us all. And we can't wait to see everyone grow more and more. Take care of your brothers and sisters in this dance family we have.
Here's a video of one of the new groups that popped up this year, LUCiFURS:
That's about it for now everyone! Thanks for reading this and I hope you enjoyed AC, and to those that weren't able to make it. There will be tons and tons of videos for you all to enjoy!

blue-ferret out.Anthrocon News, and News about Floor Wars
Posted 13 years agoHey everyone!
here! Big big updates and anthrocon is NEXT WEEK. I'm so excited for everything that's going to be happening and not to mention seeing all of you awesome dancers again! So let's get started with some big info! I - The Last-Fur-One Presents: FLOOR WARS -
*** This panel is confirmed for a Saturday Evening slot in the Westmoreland Ballroom from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. A few things have changed as me and Ronnie have talked more but nothing to do with how the competition is going to be run. So far, we've had 15 people sign up. And we've decided we are keeping those 15 and the last slot is open for whoever grabs it first. The first 16 signed up will be the 16 competing and sign-ups will be closed after this final slot has been grabbed! So if you're looking to compete in this panel, I highly suggest you send a note quickly ;D
We've got a promo video for it now! So spread it around and get the hype up! We hope to see tons of people in the crowd :D
II - The Last-Fur-One Dance Workshop -
*** Confirmed and set for FRIDAY afternoon from 4pm-6pm. Come learn all kinds of different dance styles and hang out with Last-Fur-One. It's going to be in the Pennsylvania Room, which is inside of the Westin Hotel. If you were standing at THIS POINT OF VIEW. You'd be practically standing right next to the room we'll be in. We're going to have a sign up to make it a little easier to find with the new
logo on it. So stop by and learn some new stuff, touch up on your skills and enjoy being around other dancers in the community! The teachers are confirmed. However exactly what styles are not. This might be how it goes down though.

(Popping)
(Bboying) Here's a video from last years panel showing a bit of a peak as to how it went!
III - The Returning DancerFurs Cypher -
*** This event is also been scheduled to be on FRIDAY from NOON (12pm) to 3pm. We have a DJ confirmed for this event, and he's going to provide a great mix of music genres so everyone gets a chance to hop in and show their stuff no matter what style they do. Battles will be allowed during this event, just let either me or Blue know and we'll set it up. Make sure the person you want to battle is okay with this and ready though! Hope to see you all stop by. Last year the circle was incredibly large! Hopefully we can beat last years record and make it even bigger! Same spot as last year of course. You'll be able to see it in the video. We're also hoping to have a poster with a brand new DancerFurs symbol/flag sorta thing. So we'll see how that goes as well!
Video of last years:
IV - Anthrocon's Annual Fursuit Dance Competition -
*** Sunday of course! It's going to be starting at noon and go on until 2pm. There will be TWO preliminary rounds before the finals this year. One Friday night from 8pm to 10pm and One Saturday Afternoon 4pm to 6pm. You will HAVE to be in suit during these prelims unlike last year. So make sure you come prepared. All info can be found in this pdf file posted by JD. Be prepared everyone, I look forward to seeing you all there and killing it! Good luck to everyone that's going to go for the spots in the finals.
Here's some highlights from last years! :
V - Help Each Other Out -
*** In the furry community, a big thing we love to do is help each other out. So I'm just gonna put a few things out there that really do pertain to helping people enjoy the most out of their AC. If you're someone who does need help in any way please let me know by noting me or contacting me and I'll be sure to add you to this list!
1.
is doing AnthroCon badges. Only fifteen bucks a piece, and you get a $5 discount for being referred from here or buying multiples or in pairs with a friend. So help him out and get some great and extremely fairly priced art. All details about how Toay needs help can be found HERE. 2.
is confirmed to be making it to AC! But he still needs to register and eat of course! So head over to his page and help him out by commissioning him! Head on over to this page or help by sharing it with others! VI - Miscellaneous -
***
is looking to do a new video during Anthrocon. He's searching for some really good in-suit dancers that would like to be apart of it by just having fun and dancing in suit a little bit. All the info can be found in his original journal, and you can even contact him for more info. http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3457752/***
will be doing his rooftop fursuit dance video once more this year! Exact timing is set up to be directly after the LFO workshop panel on friday evening. Head over to his page and let him know if you're planning to be there and keep your eyes glued for an update on times. ***
will be doing another Ucontamination video during AC. Hit him up for details. Dudes got editing skills. ___
___ That's pretty much it for now guys! Please again, pay close attention to the Help Each Other Out section. It's all for people in the same community as you :D Lots of conceptual choreography in these three vids, hope you all enjoy the uniqueness in these styles :D
JaJa from I.aM.mE. Crew showing her first steps into Krumping a session with the creator Tight Eyez

Complete Anthrocon Time Sheet, Sign-Ups for FW still open
Posted 13 years agoHey everyone,
here once more! We've finally confirmed ALL the times for every dance panel, and hopefully other people's events will soon be confirmed along with that. So here we go lots of info you all should soak in so you can make it to these awesome panels. I - The Last-Fur-One Dance Workshop Panel -
*** Confirmed and set for FRIDAY afternoon from 4pm-6pm. Come learn all kinds of different dance styles and hang out with Last-Fur-One. II - The BRAND NEW Last-Fur-One Presents: Floor Wars Panel -
*** Confirmed to be from 6:30-8:30 pm in the Westmoreland Ballroom of the Westin Hotel (where the Dead Dog dance is held) on SATURDAY NIGHT. This map may be a bit confusing but I hope this helps give you an idea of where it is. We are planning to have a big poster of the new LFO sign hanging outside the doors so you can always just look for that. Sign-ups are currently being held still. If you wish to sign up, please read through these notifications and info first.
1. This is a completely Non-suit event for competitors. You will be competing out of suit if you sign up.
No exceptions. Viewers are welcome to come in suit though of course.
2. This is an ALL-STYLES, FREESTYLE competition. Music will be chosen to try and match your main styles,
however, you must do with what is played. No complaints.
3: In the event that we have more than 16 people sign-up. Competitors will be chosen out of a hat pick.
Each name will have one paper in the hat. Etc. We did not have time to do preliminaries
or try-outs for this panel, so this is the fairest option we can still do.
4. At the end of each battle, the 4 judges will choose the winner based on dancing basics.
Skill, Cleanliness, musicality, crowd appeal, presence and originality.
5. The battles will be held in a tournament style. 1 vs 1.
One person goes at a time, estimated 1 minute round each.
The amount of rounds progress as you go, with finals being 3 rounds long each.
6. You are trying to BEAT your opponent. One thing you all must understand about this competition is that it is an actual battle. Show them up if you want to win.
However, you must still have good sportsmanship. Such things as touching your opponent or their clothing/accessories
will not be allowed and can will get you disqualified. Getting in their face and serving them is welcome but again, keep it in control.
7. In the case that there is a tie decision between the dancers, a quick 30 second
each round will be held to decide the winner.
8.Since we will be in the Westmoreland ballroom rather than the Spirit, there won't be a true stage,
however there will still be a great amount of space for the actual floor, and plenty of room for spectators.
9. Please do not pre-sign up through this way if you are not practically 100% sure you're going to be making it to AnthroCon 2012.
Sign-ups will still be open through Friday of AC. You'll just have to contact me or Ronnie during/after the LFO Workshop panel.
If you are still looking to sign up; send a note to this account, (DancerFurs) titled "Floor Wars Sign-Up"
with the name you'd like to be announced as,
your main style/any other subordinate styles you do,
and a picture so we can recognize you would be nice, but not completely necessary. Here's a video of what we plan to have the set-up like:
III - The Returning DancerFurs Cypher -
*** This event is also planned to be on FRIDAY from noon to 3pm.

So I'm just gonna put a few things out there that really do pertain to helping people enjoy the most and even get to AnthroCon.
VI - Miscellaneous -

is looking to do a new video during Anthrocon.
VII - CALIFUR CYPHER -
The cypher has happened and hopefully it was a great one. I'm fairly sure there will be videos and such of it so those will be released whenever I get my hands on them! Thank you to

___ That's pretty much it for now guys! Please again, pay close attention to the Help Each Other Out section. It's all for people in the same community as you :D Lots of conceptual choreography in these three vids, hope you all enjoy the uniqueness in these styles :D
FannyPak's piece to "I'm Sexy and I know it" Incredible creativity and that style that made them so well known.
FannyPak member Megan Lawson doing an incredibly artful piece to a song by Matt Cady (the main choreographer for FP)
Pacman and 747 from IME crew with an OLD piece back when they were still Marvelous Motion crew. Very lyrical.

Sign-Ups for "LFO Presents: Floor Wars" READ FIRST /CF NEWS
Posted 13 years agoBEFORE you rush to the comments and sign-up for this event. I would like to talk you through how the event is going to work, what you should be prepared for if you should sign-up and some things you should definitely know.
I'm going to list out all the of the details that have been decided and finalized. Some things that aren't covered here should be planned out and listen soon. If you have any questions, please comment below with them. I'd love to hear them so Ronnie and I can make this panel the best it can be for it's first time.
So here we go: 1. This is a completely Non-suit event for competitors. You will be competing out of suit if you sign up. No exceptions. Viewers are welcome to come in suit though of course.
2. This is an ALL-STYLES, FREESTYLE competition. Music will be chosen to try and match your main styles, however, you must do with what is played. No complaints.
3: In the event that we have more than 16 people sign-up. Competitors will be chosen out of a hat pick. Each name will have one paper in the hat. Etc. We did not have time to do preliminaries or try-outs for this panel, so this is the fairest option we can still do.
Such things as touching your opponent or their clothing/accessories will not be allowed and can will get you disqualified. Getting in their face and serving them is welcome but again, keep it in control.
7. In the case that there is a tie decision between the dancers, a quick 30 second each round will be held to decide the winner.
8.Since we will be in the Westmoreland ballroom rather than the Spirit, there won't be a true stage, however there will still be a great amount of space for the actual floor, and plenty of room for spectators.
9. Please do not pre-sign up through this way if you are not practically 100% sure you're going to be making it to AnthroCon 2012. Sign-ups will still be open through Friday of AC. You'll just have to contact me or Ronnie during/after the LFO Workshop panel.
Now that I have said these few things. I am welcoming you all to enter and compete. But just be aware that this is going to be a true dancing competition based on skill alone. No suits to get in the way of executing your moves clean. Vision is better, expressions can be seen. All of this goes into dance, so I'm looking forward to seeing what all of you are going to come with.
Send a note to this account, (DancerFurs) titled "Floor Wars Sign-Up" with the name you'd like to be announced as, your main style/any other subordinate styles you do, and a picture so we can recognize you would be nice, but not completely necessary.
Good luck to you all,
The CaliFur cypher will soon be underway, The plan is to meet up with
and
in the main lobby of the hotel between 12:30pm and 1pm on Saturday Afternoon. Skye will then lead everyone to the cypher spot and you'll have about 3 hours of dancing time to share with each other!
will be there recording a lot of it as well as participating.
Hope you all have a good time and I'm so glad we could set-up an official cypher at another con besides AC this year. Hopefully we can start doing this through-out all cons :D
--- As a side note, A lot of times have been officially confirmed for AnthroCon, and I'm getting to work scheduling the exact official times of the cypher. So look forward to that next update. Take care everyone!
- Atsu Fawx Even more info, specific dates and times for AC and CF!!!!
Posted 13 years agoHey everyone!
once again. Confirming even more details now. Hope you all are prepared. Less than 3 weeks away now for AC and next week is CF! So let's get started once more :D
I - The Last-Fur-One Dance Workshop Panel -
*** This panel is confirmed to be happening sometime FRIDAY afternoon. Exact hours still have yet to be confirmed; but it is for sure Friday afternoon in the same room as last time, Pennsylvania Room (which is in the Westin Hotel NOT the convention center). If you were looking at the lobby from THIS POINT OF VIEW. You'd be practically standing right next to the room we'll be in. So stop by and learn some new stuff, touch up on your skills and enjoy being around other dancers in the community!
The teachers are confirmed. However exactly what styles are not. This might be how it goes down though.

(groove and rhythm)
(Popping)
(Bboying) Here's a video from last years panel showing a bit of a peak as to how it went!
(in both this and the workshop panel) If you haven't heard yet, this is going to be a tournament style 1 vs 1 OUT OF SUIT dance battle panel. Here is a simple set-up/example created to give some kind of visual to it as well. Sign ups will be held instead of prelims as there was not time to set up ANOTHER panel just for prelims. These will open up soon so keep your eyes peeled.
And here's a vid showing something like what we're thinking of setting up:
III - The Returning DancerFurs Cypher -
*** This event is also planned to be on FRIDAY around noon. Specific time is not decided because we try not to overlay it with too many panels, and we definitely don't want to lapse into the workshop panels time either. We have a DJ confirmed for this event, and he's going to provide a great mix of music genres so everyone gets a chance to hop in and show their stuff no matter what style they do. have offered to help set it up. Exact time hasn't been completely confirmed. But for now it is confirmed that on Saturday from 1-3 is when it will be set up. Flinch and Skye will be at the lobby of the hotel from 12:30-1 and then Skye will lead everyone that's met up to the cypher spot that has been chosen. That way no one can get lost. So if you want to participate, make sure you meet up with them during this time frame. If you have an mp3 player of some sort, I would advise to bring it that way everyone can swap music through out the event. Doing it this way puts much less stress on one person to control the music. So make sure you all spread the word around about this event. As it's happening next week and not many people may know :3 ___

doryuu's performance at last years AC FSDC. I dunno why that song is so addicting to me but like I've watched it a lot recently just thought you'd all enjoying seeing it, or seeing it again c: A lot of stuff is right around the corner. Hope you all are prepared for some intense amount of dancing.

NEW Bi-Weekly updates, PLEASE read, especially AC ATTENDEES
Posted 13 years agoHey guys!
here once more. Lots of stuff I need you guys to know and prepare for!
___
I - The Last-Fur-One Dance Workshop Panel -
*** As some of you may have attended or seen of, the first furry dance crew, Last-Fur-One, held a panel last year to spread knowledge and love of Dance. Three different styles were taught, and the result was really incredible. Over 80 people attended, which is just phenomenal for a first time thing. It is returning again for the 3rd time (one was held at last years FurFright as well). And we're hoping you all can make it! Styles, time, and place haven't really been concreted in yet as it does take time to work with Anthrocon's Programming team. But we have confirmed the teachers and will for sure be doing this once more. It is looking to be a great panel so come by and learn something new!
Here's a video from last years panel showing a bit of a peak as to how it went!
II - The BRAND NEW Last-Fur-One Presents: Floor Wars Panel -
*** Complete details about sign-ups and how it's exactly going to work are not quite finished yet, but we do intend to show everyone some of another side of dance with this panel. Here is a simple set-up/example created to give some kind of visual to it as well.
Here's a vid showing something like what we're thinking of setting up:
III - The Returning DancerFurs Cypher -
*** Plenty of you should know about these now :D They're one of our biggest thing and last years result was just incredible. But we're going to definitely try and change the time it's held to sometime in an afternoon during AC rather than at night. That way footage is easier, and it won't get into your nightly plans! That way everyone can get a good chance to stop by. It's gonna be in the same spot of course but day and exact time haven't been decided yet as it does rely somewhat on AnthroCon's official schedule that way we don't run into too many other events. c: So PLEASE stop by, support the group, get in the circle and show some moves, learn some stuff, meet some people, maybe battle a bit if you'd like (more info on that later) and HAVE FUN.
Here's a video to give you an idea of what it looks like:
IV - Anthrocon's Annual Fursuit Dance Competition -
*** And here we are with this very well known and well praised event. We're going to assume it's going to be held the same as last year. Prelims on Friday and Finals on Sunday. Get your game on and come strong c: Last years prelims were the first years there were actual eliminations. They may change the way they do things or they may keep it the same. We'll find out. But be prepared to fight your way to the top!
Here's some highlights from last years! :

*** Battling has been coming up a lot recently, and I'd just like to say we will be allowing it at the DancerFurs cypher. It obviously will NOT be pressed or forced, but if you and someone else would like to battle, simply let me or Blue-Ferret know during the event and we'll open up a spot after whatever song is done. Etc, simple stuff like that c: Remember sportsmanship though everyone!
*** There is possibly going to be a flash-mob set up again. Details however are extremely vague and still in the works.

To prepare for the world's largest furry convention, Anthrocon. I'm going to start releasing journals twice a week.
V - Help Each Other Out -
*** In the furry community, a big thing we love to do is help each other out. So I'm just gonna put a few things out there that really do pertain to helping people enjoy the most and even get to AnthroCon. If you're someone who does need help in any way please let me know by noting me or contacting me and I'll be sure to add you to this list!
1.
is still in need of a ride to AC. So if anyone is passing through Iowa PLEASE contact him immediately. He is also doing AnthroCon badges. Only fifteen bucks a piece, and you get a $5 discount for being referred from here or buying multiples or in pairs with a friend. So help him out and get some great and extremely fairly priced art. All details about how Toay needs help can be found HERE. 2.
has room space at his Hotel room for AC and is looking for another roommate due to cancelled plans from a former one. Contact him for details! 3.
is looking for someone that is willing to lend him a suit so that he may compete in this years Fursuit Dance Competition. He's very talented and anyone willing enough to lend him one will not find themselves disappointed with the performance he puts on! Please contact him if you know anyone that would be willing to lend him a suit or if you are! 4.
is most likely not going to be able to make it due to funding for his trip. He is an artist however and always open for commissions! You can help him get to AC by spreading the word about his artwork or commissioning him yourself! He's got a pretty steep goal, but nothing is impossible when it comes to furries raising money. Head to this page or help by sharing it with others! 5.
is looking for a ride back to Long Island, NY after Anthrocon. So if anyone has any plans to head back that way please contact him and work out the details! VI - Miscellaneous -
*** Battling has been coming up a lot recently, and I'd just like to say we will be allowing it at the DancerFurs cypher.
***
is looking to do a new video during Anthrocon. He's searching for some really good in-suit dancers that would like to be apart of it by just having fun and dancing in suit a little bit. All the info can be found in his original journal, and you can even contact him for more info. http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3457752/___
___ That seems to be it for updates on AC stuff! Thank you all for taking a look, and PLEASE pay the absolute MOST attention to the Help Each Other out section. Even if it's just re-posting it in your own journal or bringing it to your friends' attention. Word spreads and we're trying to get all these people to have the best AC they can.
With that said, we officially have over 1000 people watching this group, but still not enough activity guys! I hope to get everyone as active as possible and together we can be the biggest thing to hit the fandom since the fandom itself :D
Keep your dancin mode on! and here are your videos for this journal!
with some dressed up shuffling and tecktonik. An older video from AC'10 that still makes me smile featuring some more well known Fursuit dancers

and a few others I always like to stress to people the importance of progress and how it does take time and effort to become good at something. Not to let how you feel about your current skill level get you down. So here's a personal video of mine, tracking my progress during the year of 2010. Starting with 6 months of freestyle experience/practice. Hope this helps you guys get past those moments that get you down. C:
See you guys next time!
Updates, Opportunities, and Help Needed!
Posted 13 years agoHey there guys.
here. Phew, I know how long it's been. But get comfy and sit back cause there's A LOT going on in this journal :D Stick around for all of it, cause it's pretty important ^^ To a lot of people including you all as well as your fellow Dancers.

I - The Returning Last-Fur-One Dance Workshop Panel -
*** As some of you may have attended or seen of, the first furry dance crew, Last-Fur-One, held a panel last year to spread knowledge and love of Dance. But we are confirmed to be doing this once more. It is looking to be a great panel so come by and learn something new! Here's a video from last years panel showing a bit of a peak as to how it went!
II - The First Last-Fur-One Presents: Floor Wars Panel -
*** Now this panel is something that has been brewing around lately and it has been officially confirmed to be happening now. Complete details about sign-ups and how it's exactly going to work are not quite finished yet, but we do intend to show everyone some of another side of dance with this panel. It will be a classic tournament 1vs1 style battle comprised of 16 competitors. Battle your way to the top if you can! It's going to be completely out of suit and all-styles battle. LFO really hopes to have quite a large audience and result out of this panel. As much as if not more than the Fursuit Dance Competition held at AC. It's gonna be a gooder, so make sure you tune in or get in!

As some of you may or may not have known from previous updates. We are re-doing our entire demonstration video list by finding furry dancers in our community to do them instead. This helps a lot of things such as, showing people that it is possible to learn these styles, taking it down a level by not using such famous dancers as an example, and inspiring others to seek out knowledge and skill. At the time I was taking it one genre at a time. So far I only have Hip-Hop laid out. Next I'm going to Electronic/Club genre and Foot Work genre. There are MANY spots open for different styles of dance, some have already been chosen (but the person might decline, so list is subject to change). So if you're interested in doing a demo video for us for one of these styles (that I am going to list below) please note us with some evidence that you can represent the style well! ___Well that actually seems to be it for now! I'm going to start drilling through and inviting all 143 of our new members. We practically have 1000 of you guys now. But it seems to be that only about 50 of you are very active with out community. We really want to press the issue that
and I created this group so that you can all connect with each other and just take joy in being a dancer. Get to know each other, send each other notes/shouts/ims and stuff. Make new crews get into battles. Just, become part of the community. Become active. We know it's hard with real-life situations and stuff coming into play, but all it takes is a bit of effort. The result is massive and we believe in you guys.*** So with all that said, here are you weekly videos! Enjoy, and please don't forget what was covered in this journal. Let's Give Back and help each other out!
Posted 13 years agoHey there everyone!
here.
I know how painfully long it's been without updates and such and I am deeply sorry for that. More will be on their way for sure later tonight or tomorrow morning. But for now I have two very important things to stress. Two of our members really need your guys' help and I'm asking each of you to go on and help them out if you possibly can C:
First I'll start with
Ronnie has a promo video that he needs help promoting by the end of today! So do your best to go like it and spread the word throughout your friends to go like it and their friends, etc etc.
Here's the link! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVr_BWY5Tsg He's showing off some of his mad bboy skills for you alll so please help him out by liking his video and sharing it with other.
Next,
is doing some awesome and very well-priced badges for all Anthrocon attendees this year. They're only 15$ and you even get a 5$ discount for being referred to by this page. So go hit him up for one. They're very simplistic and awesome looking c: And who can pass up that much for only ten bucks?
So please go help support him and get yourself one of these http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7915794/ :D
That's all for now, but I promise you all I will get back to updating everything, and include tons of stuff c:

World of Dance Dallas Report and some advice
Posted 13 years agoHey guys, this is
. As a lot of you may have seen, I recently competed with a crew I am apart of in a big event known as World of Dance. It's a pretty big competition that is held in many big cities across a few countries, but mainly the United States. The one I competed in was held in Dallas and I just kinda wanted to share my experience with you all while I tell you the outcome and lend some advice.
Before I start though, I want to thank each and everyone of you who sent me texts, tweets, shouts and comments with good luck wishes. It really helped to have positive and supportive feedback from you guys. It honestly did. So thank you so much.
Starting off, it wasn't really nerve racking at all. Just extremely exciting. I saw many famous dancers there, some of whom inspired me to start dancing, including one of my tutting idols Mike Song. The vibe you get just from being in the building with so many other dancers and choreographers is just impossible to describe. It's just so energizing and well, incredible.
However, when coming closer to performance time, especially when waiting for our turn in line, adrenaline and worry starts to kick in. And I felt like I could possibly fuck it up for all of us. It's hard to calm yourself from that and just prepare to really, just get out there and murder the show. You just have to put faith in your body being able to remember the moves and let your mind sit back and let it happen.
We got up there and did our best. Well, at least I know I did. Put as much as I could onto that floor, and it felt really good. But, I wasn't completely satisfied. Because I knew we didn't do as well as I'd of liked. It wasn't as close to perfection as I'd of liked. And sometimes that's just not in your power to control. But what bothered me most was that it was something we could have changed.
So now here's my advice to you all. If you are ever in a crew, whether you're the leader or not. You need to know that you have a say in things. If you have an idea, or critique, or even something that you think should be completely changed, you should be able to voice it. Now, don't get outta hand with it, but when it comes to competitions and you know things can be better or more well used, for the better of the crew. It should be done.
We placed 8th out of 19 competitors. Which isn't bad considering it was our first time at the event, with a 6 minute set and going against very well known crews in the area. But still isn't as good as I'd of liked. One thing was said by all the judges when we got our score sheets back. And that was to not walk through transitions. This same thing is something I brought up to our leader while we were choreographing and putting together our set. However he denied my opinion due to his own, saying it was okay because it was on beat and had a purpose.
I was overruled regardless of what I knew. What has been said countless times by other judges, and what people have lost before due to doing. It really made me rage that we got marked down because of that. And that we could have easily placed way higher if we had taken the time to fill gaps with other things. It just irks me so bad that we could've done better so easily.
The other thing, though the judges did not catch it is cleanliness. I've watched this video quite a few times now and I can point out mess-ups, times when we aren't all doing moves the exact same way (disregarding formation stuff of course) and times when even our leader/director did things wrong. That pisses me off because one thing that is sanely obvious about competing with a crew is being clean. You have to be clean no matter what. We could've been wayyyy cleaner if we had spent the whole last week cleaning our WOD set instead of learning a whole new piece that we didn't even use for World of Dance.
So, that's just my advice to you guys. If you're ever doing something with someone or a crew. Make sure you have the right to voice opinions and change things. Because it could just be the thing that makes you lose a higher spot.
Now saying all that negative stuff, it was still an incredible time and I had a blast. I still loved being up there in front of all those people and having that energy flow through me from all those other dancers. It's a great event that I would love to attend sometime again even if I wasn't competing.
I guess that's it guys. If you read it all thanks, if not that's cool too didn't really expect it to become this long anyways.
I'm gonna post a few photos and the video of our performance for you all to enjoy. Hope you like it, we really did work hard on it.

blue-ferretThe Misconception of Battling
Posted 13 years agoSo I've been hearing a lot of condescending talk about battling and what it is. People are telling me, 'they dance to express not to battle.' But battling isn't about being aggressive from the beginning to the end or to start shit with someone, battling is expression and yes there is competition but all these qualities are still held within it. You do want to top someone, things may get aggressive and you might call someone out, but its as much apart of dancing as it is anything else.
You may not be the type to battle and that's okay, don't look down on it. You don't verbally argue, you dance on the floor and prove that you know your shit and at the end of the day, you shake hands and hug because that's good sportsmanship. You oughta be thankful for having the experience of dancing with your brothers and sisters.
Battling helps you in many ways. Battling isn't about doing all these moves that you learned and then running out in the middle of it and saying "Oh well." Battling is about coming up with new moves on the spot, and of course not saying you can't use your old moves, but you gain a lot especially watching people dance. Battling is problem solving especially when you crash but you have to recover during a fall, or a trip.
So what if you get humiliated or get smoked? That's okay, because humiliation and loss is a tool for learning and moving forward. Don't be afraid of this, we all get nervous, anxious, excited or hyped. Look at rap battles and think about what people have to endure as a comparison.
If you're still here watching your brother or sister who beat you in a battle, who move forward, that just really shows that you are dedicated to dance and love it. You don't lose a battle and go home and sulk. You learn by watching, you learn by feeling.
Battling builds confidence, battling builds problem solving, battling is apart of dancing and is expression as much as anything else.

Battling builds confidence, battling builds problem solving, battling is apart of dancing and is expression as much as anything else.

blue-ferret out~News about upcoming cons and a question you need to answer
Posted 13 years agoHey there everybody!
here. Sorry about the delay on updates. Been really busy with preparation for WOD Dallas and the usual school, work, life junk so I fell a bit behind. xD
But anyways! Here we go.
To start it off I'll get the question outta the way. I really need you all to answer this as it determines the substance of a panel that will be held at Anthrocon this year.
and I have been setting up a Dance Battle panel to be held this year, however we've come to disagree on one key characteristic. Most of Everything is working out great, we just need you opinions on this matter :D
The main point of this panel is to put on show some of the greater freestyling furry dancers out there and show the essence of battling in dance, Tournament stlye. Not just performing but actually battling with raw skills and energy. However, a major point that needs to be included in this is furry interest as well, since it is obviously being held at a furry con.
The question we want you to answer is: which would you rather see.
- Only those with suits can enter this competition.
- Have two separate categories, 1 fursuit and 1 for those without suits (or those who wish to compete out of suit)
- Or have only an out of suit category.
Now keep in mind the reasoning and set up behind each of these options. And then digress your opinion. EACH ONE OF YOUR ANSWERS TRULY COUNTS AND GOES INTO CONSIDERATION FOR THIS PANEL. So give us your true opinion on the matter. Whether you're looking to compete or just looking forward to getting to see the show!
- Option 1: Only Suits Allowed
= Benefits: Makes the panel very related and fun, get to see a lot of suiters battle it out 1 v 1, easier to organize
= Set backs: Some dance forms don't come across very well in suit, and many competitors that don't have suits aren't able to compete.
- Option 2: Half and Half
= Benefits: Gives a view of both sides of the spectrum (as well as benefits and set backs from both), Allows competitors to choose which side they'd like to be on, Still furry friendly but also gets to showcase some great out of suit dancing as well
= Set backs: Harder to organize, less people in each category (since they have to be split), Some people may only want to see one side of the spectrum (spectator wise)
- Option 3: Strictly non suit
= Benefits: Allows better judging and showcasing of a variety of dance styles since the actual dancer is not hindered by suits, A very different outlook for spectators (finally getting to see what suiters can really do), gives everyone a fair chance of competing and winning based on skill since a suit is not a requirement
= Set backs: Isn't as furry friendly as the first two alternatives, spectators that are only interested in fursuiters might not come to view this event,
So now that all that's out of the way please answer with what you truly think would be best in your opinion. It really does count!
and now we can move on to some news about upcoming con events.
With FWA gone FCN is coming up quick and a reminder to all those going about the dance competition is right here for you!
has provided everything you should need to know in THIS journal. So go check it out by clicking the link in the word "this" and have a good time tearing up the floor there!
Also if anyone would like to set up and official DF cypher sometime there let me know when and where you plan to do it, how you will be providing music and other such details! I'd love to try and get a circle going at each and every con there is so just lemme know people! These cyphers can only happen with your help!
AnthroCon is also just around the corner.
And with it we have a lot of new things coming as well as our typical (but still awesome) annual stuff :D
is planning to do a dance video project with anyone willing to participate (in suit only though as far as I know). Check out all the details here! http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3304135/
As you all already know (assuming you read the journal)
and
are setting up a new 1 v 1 tournament style dance competition. As for if it's going to be suit/mixture/non-suit yet is still to be decided by you all! So please let us know ASAP by commenting or sending a note if you're shy about other people knowing your opinions (though you shouldn't be! we're all open to everything here)
is also setting up their teaching panel again so go check that out!
There will be a cypher for sure again this AC. When is still to be announced, however the place will still be the same! In that big corner of the convention center! :D
And finallyyyyy, of course, the annual FSDC held there will be going on again. I'm pretty sure it's the same as last time, Prelims on Friday and the Finals on Sunday. So all those willing and ready, prepare yourselves and get on stage to rip it up :D
Well that seems to be it. To all of you... 81 new watchers and members. I'm so sorry that I haven't been able to personally welcome and add you all to the watch list but I will get on that as soon as possible!
Here's some weekly vids for you! Three highlights of FWA's competition and then three of our more typical dance vids :D
Murdering the beat and samples of this track at FWA's Dance Competition
Musicality, hits, what else is there to say. This was fantastic, poppin skills on another level
the way she moves is really incredible. It's hard to explain, but trust me, if you ever get to see her out of suit as well. You'll see even more than you can see here.
And here's our general videos :D
Have a great week guys. And keep those bodies moving :D

Updates, Some News and Some videos
Posted 13 years agoHey guys,
here once more :D
I'm pleased to say that I've decided on a few people to start with the example videos to change. Those who have been chosen will be contacted and when they're done, edited and posted everyone else will find out who they were. Again, this is meant to encourage all our members by showing them that furries and not just famous or well trained dancers can perform and become great in any style we want to! So cheer on your fellow furries and work towards a higher goal to enjoy yourself to the fullest while learning!
FWA Is around the corner! So anyone interested in that dance competition should definitely head on over!
Good luck to all hopefuls in the competition.
- A BIG side note. Anyone that's willing to arrange a cypher there like we do at AnthroCon's PLEASE contact me on my personal account immediately so I can release details and get the word out last minute. I'm sure there's a bit of these but I would love to have someone going actually put on a small random event not on the actual con schedule to represent us :D
Have a great FWA guys can't wait to see all your footage.
--- My attention has just been brought to a dance competition quite a bit later on in the year, but I've been asked to start mentioning now so here we go! :D
Furlaxation of Columbus, OH which is occuring on September 28th - 30th is going to be holding a dance competition this year :D So all you furries planning to go to that should get ready and prepared ;3
here's a link to their site: http://www.furlaxation.org/ Go check it out c:
---- Not much new to say about AnthroCon or FCN at the moment, so just go to our old journals for that news :D
Anddd I guess that's it for this week. Here's your weekly videos. Enjoy!
Showing some great great improvement with some sweet new concepts and moves to his popping. Check it out

Showing some great great improvement with some sweet new concepts and moves to his popping. Check it out Brian Friedman one of the best choreographers around right now with an incredibly high energy piece. Showing how performance level choreography should be energy wise. This is putting your all into something, for those that don't know exactly what going "full out means" I've learned a lot from just watching this one video, so I'd love to share the learning experience with you all.
Some great tap dancing with great rhythm and feel to it. Adding that variety in gotta love it! A style I really would love to learn and study some day :D
Well that's it! Keep on dancing guys!

Updates, Updates and More Updates.
Posted 13 years agoHey guys,
here.
Gonna apologize about the lack of updates this past week was super busy with work and practice for a competition but now I got some good news and updates for you guys.
That'll be it for this week! Hope you all enjoy the videos and updates! Until next time, keep on dancing!
- Atsu Fawx
here. Gonna apologize about the lack of updates this past week was super busy with work and practice for a competition but now I got some good news and updates for you guys.
We'll start it off with the YouTube page.
I've gotten it back working and have decided how to use it. It's going to be a tad different from how we used to use it but I think this is for the better and it makes things a lot less stressful and difficult!
We will not be accepting every single members videos to be uploaded onto the page and then be posted here as well. We have over 800 people now and that will end up being way to many to work with efficiently. So instead, we will be using it to host tutorials and demonstration videos.
and I will be choosing a few members to do demonstration videos and eventually tutorials to post on the YouTube page and use as links on our frontpage/profile info. This will show the fact that furries like us can accomplish these skills through hard work, practice, dedication, and love for the art. By doing it this way, it will discourage people from saying, "Ohh, they can only do that cause they're a professional dancer."
We hope to encourage all of you new and old members to learn more by doing it this way. So, I hope this helps you all :D
More info will be coming on this, tutorials will be done later on as well. But we're going to try and focus on getting the demonstrations up first!
Next are some details about upcoming con events. Anyone going to AC, FWA and FCN should pay attention closely to this section. Especially the in-suit dancers attending AC as I require some feedback for a new panel that is coming up.
Starting with FCN, I haven't received any more info but here's what we have still. Just as a reminder.
-" FCN will be hosting its own fursuit dance competition. Now, how will this be different than the other dance competitions out there?
First, do you have a dancing partner or four that you would love to share the stage with? Perfect! We invite several different kinds of acts, not just solo dance routines. You can compete individually, as a couple, or in a crew of up to 5 people if you wish.
Also, "crowd reaction" will be included in your final score. Simply put, the louder your audience cheers for you, the better your final score will be! How cool is that?
If you are interested, a link has been included explaining the fine details of this competition. If you have any questions, contact Huscoon via e-mail at huscoon(at)gmail(dot)com or through AIM, Yahoo, FA, or LJ under the username "huscoon."
Thank you and good luck!

- Moving on to another upcoming con, FWA.
"Back for it’s 5th year! The top three will be recieving a free t-shirt, and the winner will be recieving a 2013 FWA God-level membership! This is a really fun event to be part of and I would encourage all the fursuiters out there to give a shot at trying out. There will be 2 try-out times for the event, one on Friday and one on Saturday. Come to the tryouts with music in paw or at least a style of music in mind. Please come to the tryouts in fursuit (at least a partial). Keep in mind that every performance will be cut off at 90 seconds! The competition itself will be held on Saturday night. "
- quoted from FWA's website.
- Finally, some Anthrocon news.
AC is taking place June 14th - 17th.
Of course the regular news is the Dance competition on Sunday which have prelims on Friday. Can't ever forget about those.
Last-Fur-One crew will be holding another panel to teach anyone willing to come some moves and different styles. Details will be released closer to con time.
and
have been collaborating to come up with another dance competition like event. Although this is going to be a more dance centralized event with a battle feel. For those dancers that have seen battles, live or on video, you can tell the difference in the feeling of the competition. It's a lot more raw and competitive. With that being said, this event will be for both non-suiters and suiters. More details will be revealed later on closer to con time but, for now I need some feedback from you suiters.
This event will most likely be placed directly after the Fursuit Parade. As can be seen there will be a few complications with this, from my knowledge and insight from others. many suiters take a break from suiting after the Parade and are actually quite tired. Would those interested in competing in this event be able to deal with the time constraint and physical requirements? Although a side note to mention would be the non-suiter competitors would begin the event and the event would end with the suiters. Although I would like everyone to be there close to the start of the event. We'll try to iron out details later, but I definitely require some feed back from you all!
And finally here are some weekly videos, I apologize about not having any up for last week :D

Extra dance videos of this week! Had to show y'all. WATCH that musicality, check the variation. Dancerfurs, KEEP IT FRESH!
If you haven't checked out the rest of this week's video CLICK HERE! http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3143464/
Want to make your dance more dynamic?
-Consider thinking about slow and fast movements. Whether you want a certain move to be "milked." This can create very nice contrast and make your movements look smoother and cleaner.
-Consider hard and soft movements. Commonly in hip hop, hard hits are necessary but look even nicer if you contrast them with soft movements.
-Variety. Try not to stack movements, mix it up!
Peace!
