Dream Drawing
Posted 11 years agoMan, these dreams are really strange. It feels like I'm drawing like normal. I'm checking and rechecking lines, I'm organizing layers, I'm even coloring within lines and having technical difficulties that I overcome along the way. Except, it all happens while I'm asleep, sometimes over the course of multiple dreams. This last one had me convinced within the dream that while my current progress was dreamed, at least I had the first half drawn for real. Nope! All dream.
It's alright though, because I still want to draw when I get up in the morning.
In other news, I'll be going to Anthrocon soon, which is nice. Hopefully I make some friends and get some inspiration for art! After Anthrocon, my next big trip will be Bronycon, which will be my pony convention, so that's exciting. I'll be living in a different place with potentially a new job and no debt, since I plan to pay off a small loan from the government before August. Then, I'll officially be a debt-free Anthropologist who draws ponies and furries!

What do you look like?
Short dude with blonde hair and dark brown roots, thin now (yay!), sometimes glasses, light green/blue eyes, and a really awesome Mouse partial fursuit.
Where/how can I find you?
I wander, but I'll probably be in the fursuit parade, or attending an interesting panel about spirituality or fursuit creation. Oh! My group usually has a panel called College Furs which I should be able to be found at. Otherwise keep a lookout for a little dude wearing a Halcyon mouse badge or wearing a white mouse costume.
Are you taken? Are you looking for a mate?
I'm a single rodent, and I dunno. Mates are cool, but I don't like long distance deals, so I prefer the short-term type of mate if you *cough*... *COUG_HACK!* bleh
How are you getting there?
Getting driven by my good friend.
What hotel are you staying at?
The main one as far as I know.
Which days will you be attending?
The whole three-day shebang
Can I touch you?
Depends. Hugs are cool, and I'm cool with touching, but keep it PG.
What is one thing you will be doing?
Wandering, drinking, playing games with people, fursuiting. The usual.
Do you draw?
Yup, but more as a hobby than a profession
Do you do requests?
Yes. There are actually a lot of things I'd like to try, but I never have the motivation to really commit to an idea. I imagine that a dollar or two would make me feel real committed.
Will you have prints, CDs, or merchandise?
Nope, but I'm open to suggestion for the future.
Will you have Art in the Art Show?
No
Can I draw you/your fursona?
Absolutely!
Are you doing the artist ally?
Nope, but my friends are, so I might be around there more than a few times.
Who will you be with?
Let's see.... Keida, Tiger Thor, Seneca, Random Lion, and a few others.
What is your main purpose for attending?
Having a grand ole time. Conventions are a great getaway from college life.
Can I talk to you?
YES. PLEASE I GET SO BORED
Can I take pictures with/of you?
Sure, but especially if I'm in my fursuit. :D
Are you bringing your sketchbook?
I don't really have a real sketchbook, but I'll have a cheap notepad thingy.
Can I touch/hug/cuddle you?
Dunno about cuddles, but touches and huggles is ok
Can I hang out with you?
WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE
Can I buy you food/a drink?
Drink, yes. Food, maybe. I'm trying to drop the last of this baby fat I have, so food is the enemy. I somehow manage to find food anyway, so no worries.
Do you go to parties?
YES, TELL ME WHERE THEY ARE. Seriously, last MFF everytime I asked someone where a party was they said they just came from one, and couldn't remember where. I was a party mouse without a party :(
Do you dance?
I can sure try!
Do you (own a) fursuit/costume?
Partial mouse!
What is the best way to reach you?
Um, I'll try to check my FA messages, but mostly it's if you see me. I don't like oversharing my phone-number, but if I want to talk to you again I'll definitely put it in there.

Yes, um, wait.... no, there's definitely.... ah! Be excellent to eachother. and, uh... PARTY ON DUDES!

Tired. Finals.
Posted 13 years agoFinals are coming... drawing has halted. Fursuit work has halted. Hopefully I'll get more work done when it's all done with.
Taking Requests
Posted 13 years agoI'm looking to expand my creative horizons. My issue is that I am not fully invested in my random sketches. I'm thinking that if I take requests, then I will dedicate more time and effort into the detail.
So, if you have a request, note me or comment on this journal. I'll work on them as I'm able or until I decide to stop taking requests. :)
I want to get better at drawing poses and action moves, so if you have something like that, I'd be eager to try it out.

Tough time with foam
Posted 13 years agoThe foam is giving me some unforeseen difficulties. I'm trying to make it as accurate as possible, but my measurements, pictures, and video of the suit design I'm emulating are simply not doing the job. I'm having to improvise and hope it works. At least the skeletal meshwork is fairly consistent, and I'm almost certain I've done it correctly. After this, it will be a heck of a time making the fur, but I have the airbrush set and clay and felt coming within the week. The suit is beginning to pick up, and I'm not sure when I'll be able to finish a full suit.
Hurdles on the New Suit
Posted 13 years agoThe suit I'm working on is of a much simpler design, but I'm still facing time hurdles on it. The biggest problem is being able to focus on it along with the stresses of everyday life at home. It takes time and a great deal of focus to make it just right the first time, and I'm finding that it's very tough. Once I'm in my apartment in August, I hope to see my productivity triple. In the mean-time, I'll try to work on it as much as I can.
How I did my fursuit
Posted 13 years agoI know it's not the best fursuit in the world, but it's my first, and I suppose people may want to know how I did what I did.
Ok, so first I ordered foam from Foam Factory. They've got this nice foambymail thing and I got my foam within a week or so. It was two nice big squares, one of which I still haven't cut into.
I went through a couple pairs of scissors. It does seem that foam dulls a scissors blade pretty quick. I actually ended up buying an electric knife for some of the bigger carving jobs, like the cheeks. Scissors were just too iffy on the preciseness area.
I used a lot of hot glue to keep the foam together, and I used my head as a base for the most part, using quilting pins to hold the foam together before I glued it.
When it came to the fur, I ordered it from fabric.com. They were pretty easy and had this free shipping deal on purchases over 50 bucks. I still have an excess amount of synthetic fur. I started out with scissors, but I quickly learned that it's very easy to accidentally crop the fur wrong on the edges when it is cut with scissors. I figured out a method, but it's tedious. It's much easier to simply use a box knife with the shortest blade setting.
For shaping and placing the fur, I pinned it against the foam and folded it back at places until it was flat. Then, I took a pen and marked the edges. I cut along those edges, with a little leeway for a sewing edge, and then repeated that until I had some fair sized pieces that were nice and solid. I wanted to avoid having patchy fur on my head.
After that, I trimmed with a beard trimmer (weak piece of crap, didn't do the job) and scissors (much more tedious, but more control in the long run. It can be frustrating if you mess up.).
My friend made the eyes, teeth, and nose out of clay. I used a quadrupled thread tied to a piece of metal glued to the back of the nose and tied through the inside of the head. Then, I glued the rest of the nose underneath. The thread just wasn't strong enough and I figured the foam would lose stability over time.
That's pretty much it. I did wait until the end to put the neck on the head. I basically sewed it along the edge and glued any part that touched the foam. I still haven't got my jaw to work right. I'm still trying to come up with ideas for that. My dilemma seems to be my basic framework being an issue. The top of the head comes to somewhat of a point, and that leaves space. When I try to use the jaw, my head simply filled the space above instead of meeting resistance and opening the jaw.
The future may hold more interesting things with my suit. Who knows. I may have enough fur to build an entire suit, but I'm not sure. I've never made clothing, and I don't want to waste materials learning the hard way. I need a teacher or a reliable set of tutorials and/or books.
