R.I.P. Kilo Reginald Ward
Posted 12 years agoI brought my cat home for a few hours today. He was still not using the bathroom. I rushed him back to emergency, and the worst was confirmed.
I won't get into details, but even the ER surgeon said there was nothing he could do. I had no choice but to put him down.
He was my life, my love, my son. I love him more than anything.
Now he's with my dad.

Just a place to vent about my sick cat....
Posted 12 years agoI can't have children of my own due to a medical condition. It's not so bad. I have a nephew, who I am the primary caregiver for, and a five year old cat.
My step-dad and I rescued him as a tiny kitten from a drug dealer's house. When we got him, he was solid black. I bathed him, and low-and-behold he turned out to be white. I named him Kilo. It seemed fitting enough, knowing where he came from and what he looked like. From the day we met, we were attached to one another. He was my son. I treated him like royalty. He got pushed around in a pet stroller to go on walks outside, I dressed up him, and at night we cuddled close (he'd let me wrap both arms around him and hug him to my chest). We are inseparable. Unfortunately he is prone to UTIs. Generally I can give him some store bought meds, and it clears up in a couple days. This week I wasn't so lucky.
I rushed him to emergency around 10 tonight. He had a major blockage, and they had to start pumping liquids into him as well as catheter. They sent me away about 45 minutes later, after assuring I had a $2500 credit line open just in case it was needed (high estimate of $2077). I got a call an hour later telling me that the blockage was being cleared nicely, his vitals were stabilizing, and that he had a disease. Apparently my little boy has Feline Idiopathic Cystitis. Thank God that can be managed. He'll be far more spoiled when he gets home. I'm putting him on an all wet food diet, setting up his own personal water fountain, and getting some feline aromatherapy stuff.
It's going to be an expensive fix, but my son is worth it. I love him dearly. Prior to getting that phone call, I was shaking and going through severe panic attacks.
