Derpy Hooves and Censorship
Posted 13 years agoOkay, so I recently was converted to the brony side of life. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Yes, I know what you're probably thinking: "dubbayew-tee-eff, why would somebody wanna be a part of a fandom about a little girl's tv show?" Better question: why does anyone join a fandom? Because they like fapping to characters they think are hot, lol. That's not my case, honest to bacon. I was converted because two of my friends have been bronies for some time, I guess, and one was persistent enough as he showed me all kinds of parts of the fandom that I finally caved. So, Day 1 into my fandom experience as a brony and I found this youtube video about Derpy Hooves - one of the show's more minor background characters. She's clumsy, has a lazy eye, but is incredibly loveable nonetheless. Then I saw that she was being censored because TEN angry parents/people in general complained to Hasbro and said that the character - who is honestly a lot like typical sidekick-esque characters we know and love like Ed from Ed, Edd and Eddy, or Dopey from SNOW WHITE, for crying out loud - was "offensive" to those who are mentally disabled or handicapped just because she's clutzy and has a lazy eye and her voice was apparently that of kind of a "durr" thing (don't know how to explain that). Not to mention that the person making the video, who wasn't the actual voice actor but totally should be, made the video as if she actually WAS Derpy, and then in a separate edit someone did, they put it to trailer music from Dead Island...
I cried...I cried so terribly, it was so horrible... I haven't cried over a cartoon since I watched The Lion King when I was a kid. That Hasbro would be FORCED to either completely change the character or DELETE her from the episodes she's in just because of STUPID things like that called upon by the minority is just ridiculous. I don't understand what's so offensive about the term "derp" and how Derpy was portrayed as being "offensive". It's bogus! We know plenty of clumsy-but-loveable characters like Derpy! And this whole SHOW is about acceptance and love - by censoring a supposedly-handicapped pony like Derpy from it, what exactly are you showing children? That it's okay to pretend like handicapped people don't exist or to reject them because they're different? BULLSHIT.
I'm honestly very against a lot of forms of censorship, though I can see why some things are censored, but this...this is absolutely ridiculous. I've read the argument from several sides, and it just doesn't make sense, really...
Solutions considered:
1) Take Derpy out altogether
2) Edit Derpy's voice and name in the episode she's mentioned in and talks in for the first time (as HAS been done)
3) There probably was a third one somewhere in there, but hell if I know it
Granted that the changes were made ONLY to the iTunes upload of the show and that in the DVD and on tv, they are the same as the were on the original airing, but the fact that this whole shitstorm was spawned because a few people were butthurt over something stupid like this is just ridiculous.
I wanna know your thoughts. What do you guys think about the whole thing, even if you aren't into the fandom. I don't put out journals often, guys, so I'd appreciate some feedback.
Here's the link to the original video I saw, then the edit with the tear-jerker music (as if the words alone weren't tear-jerking enough):
Original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aK_L.....eature=related
Edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cg-_.....eature=related
If you would like, there's a petition in one or both of the videos that you can sign to fight against this. It's worthwhile, even if the changes aren't much.
But then again, that's just my opinion.
From all the loyal bronies,
WE LOVE YOU DERPY HOOVES

Posted 14 years agoOkay, so, time to update the world with a new journal! *fanfare*
Recently I've been thinking a lot how back in February I went to a Cradle of Filth concert at The Rave in Milwaukee, WI. It was my first concert ever and I had the most kick-ass time in the world. I wanna get my adrenaline flowing like that once more before the year is up.
Okay, so I live in Manitowoc, which is a little over an hour north of Milwaukee (using that as a reference, otherwise it's about a half hour, 45-minute or something close drive to Green Bay). I'm looking to my most metal contacts to see if you guys can spot any kind of good concerts coming up between now and the end of this year that are in the general area around me. I've seen notes for a mega concert coming up next week in Twin Lakes (it looks SOOO awesome), as well as a good few at The Rave (Amon Amarth on the 24th, Opeth on Oct. 27th, 3 Doors Down on Nov. 2nd). There is actually a huge one going on today in Illinois with MEGADETH, DISTURBED, AND GODSMACK, and I SOOOOO wish I could be there...but I only just found out about it today. That blows big time, since Megadeth is one of my all-time favorites! But still...
However, I'm just one wolf. Many eyes...and ears, and paws, are better than one...well, two, but you get the point. If you guys happen to find anything coming up between now and the end of December that looks decently awesome, please let the wolfy know! Please? *puppy eyes*

Thunder on the Lakeshore airshow
Posted 14 years agoWell hello there my furry friends, I type to you today from the Manitowoc County Airport (which is more or less actually an airstrip) as I volunteer for the Thunder on the Lakeshore airshow. I know, you're probably thinking, "Why are you typing this if you're working?" Well it's the downtime after the main show and I'm just kind of waiting around for the excitement to pick back up once the night show starts.
Today I've seen airplanes ranging from the T-33 Thunderbird to the Sukhoi SU-29 to the modern A-10 Thunderbolt II. It's been a blast so far, and I can't believe how much history the headquarters has within its walls in the form of photographs and replica models. It's incredible!
Anyways, off to take more photographs! I'll be giving them to
historyfurs to put up, so you'll see them there...eventually...they *are* on my camera phone...

Teh Zombies!!!!
Posted 14 years agoRecently I was rereading through some old stuff in my buddy Demona's gallery (totally not being a creeper) and came upon the Zombie Survival Guide podcasts. That got me wondering if there were other cool podcasts people had done about the same thing. So a google search later and I came upon this site that I thought was doing a podcast about it. I click on it and find it's an entire radio show they did starting back in 2009. Like George Orwell's "War of The Worlds", they did it about what basically became the end of modern life as we know it. Of course, here instead of aliens we have zombies. I listened to the first chapter and was immediately hooked. It's addictive, the sound effects (for simply a recording studio and common items) are very effective and high quality, and the dialogue and plot is incredibly realistic (for as real as a zombie apocalypse can be).
The site is www.zombiepodcast.com
If you get bored and don't mind listening to average of about 20 minute segments at a time this is for you. I'm hooked, I know that much!

Goth
Posted 15 years agoWell, this is hopefully going to be short. To put it simply, I have discovered my love for goth. Not just the clothes and the makeup, but the people who are comfortable enough to let themselves be portrayed in such a dark, mysterious (and utterly just overall sexy!) fashion. I admire those who can stand out and display their...err, black and darkness proudly. To them, I give a great salute!
The reason I write this is because it's late and I'm bored. Also, I just want to put up a journal that isn't lamenting my poor drawing skills or ranting about injustice (see my "Save The Whales!" rant journal that took over an hour to write...ON...MY...PHONE). Also, if I ever get any artwork up ever again, I will probably post a piece or two with some definite goth/gothic elements. I'm pretty dark as a storywriter, so I suppose my artwork follows suit!
All kinds of love from the deepest shadows to my loyal watchers,

Potential Podcast Part 2
Posted 15 years agoWell crap, life has been a bitch lately. I did record a podcast, then edited it to have epic Cradle of Filth intro and outro music (Cradle is mah second most favoritest band at the moment, second only to my eternal love of Metallica). Sad part is: it was too big! I hate the filesize limit! It was 11.2 mb, and it can only be 10! Not cool! ...*sigh* Well, it sounded like crap, so I'll probably just record a better on and post it, instead...WITH epic Cradle music!
Also, even though I'm not getting money for mentioning it, Cradle's new album "Darkly, Darkly Venus Aversa" just came out in the U.S. today, so I is uber-happy! I wants to get a copy so badly, but I want to save my money for Christmas, so I'm in a jam...buy the album, or save up and maybe get it for Christmas? *sighs* I hate hard decisions like this!
...wow, that got random. Oh well, at least it's not like the Sopranos where it cuts off in mid-sen-

Potential Podcast
Posted 15 years agoI had this idea that, since I very obviously lack artistic talent, lack money to hire artistic talent, lack real musical skill, and have stories that are apparently only becoming half-finished at best due to ten million other things that I have to do, I thought that maybe a podcast idea might work out best to let people know I'm not completely worthless and a total art-watching moocher.
Two problems with this idea:
1) I only have two people watching me, meaning only two people are going to get notifications that I've made something new (the same way those two people are going to find out that I wrote this journal).
2) What the Hell should I talk about!? I mean, I've listened to Demona's Thoughts and such, along with many of her and Xan's hilarious other podcasts, but if I did discussions about similar topics, would I just be called a cheater and a leech? (Gods, I hope not...enough vampiric references in my life as it is...I'm a werewuffy! not a vampire!)
Anyways, I just kind of wanted to get that whole depressing journal about the whales gone. I know the whales issue is really important and I still strongly support it, but if that's one of the few things people look at if they bother to look at my page (trust me, I'm shocked that I have over a hundred pageviews as it is), I don't want them thinking that all I do is piss and moan about the negatives in life. That's no good, right?
So there, now the word is out to those two people, so maybe they'll spread the idea to others. HELP ME OUT, GUYS!!! You two are the only ones I've got!

The Horrific Slaughter
Posted 15 years agoI know, it's late, I should be in bed (and I am as I write this), but I've been moved emotionally. I know it's probably not my place to say what's right and wrong, especially in the whole workings of this, the furry world, about things going on in the real world, but I cannot and will not stand idly by any longer.
Now, having gotten that down, you're probably wondering what I'm ranting about. Well, I just finished watching a documentary called "Pirates For The Sea" that documents the workings of the famous/infamous (depending on where you live and what news you've been spoon-fed by your media and local government) Paul Watson, founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. His life's work of stopping the senseless and horrific mutilation of the earth's oceans and various other waters is an inspiration to every man, woman and child who has ever given a veritable damn about the planet. This horrific and brutal desecration of the boundless underwater kingdom is unforgiveable, yet everyday, hundreds of thousands and millions of innocent animals are stripped of their right to life on this beautiful planet of ours for the sake of the "almighty dollar."
In whaling, it's countries like Japan (as seen on the Animal Planet program Whale Wars) and Norway (which, in this case, I am sad to say I have blood ties to) and others who deliberately ignore the IWC (International Whaling Commission) moratorium on whaling that has been in place for decades now. They do it in, get ready for this, the name of "scientific research," though as stated in the documentary, there has only ever been one scientific paper to come from all of these "scientific" exploits of sentient life.
In the hunting and the brutal slaughter of the hood and harp seal, it's the U.S.'s very close neighbor Canada who leads the charge in demolishing the lives of young seal pups right in front of their mothers, who then, themselves, are beaten and clubbed and shot to death or drown beneath the frozen ice of the Arctic waters. The Canadian government has officially stated that they do not support or endorse the annual "Seal Hunt," but there has, in the past - according to the Sea Shepherd website - been quotas for the seal of in excesses of 350,000 seals, often which are exceeded in their own right by the overzealous and brutish hunters that - according to Captain Watson - apprently just go up North to "'...get away from their wives, drink beer, and kill something.'" Despite the sale of seal products being banned in the U.S., their sale continues all over the world. Also, little as it may be known, the meat of the slaughtered animals out of Canada is served in - hold on to your hats - the franchise restaurants of Red Lobster. There is currently a boycott of Canadian seafood, and I, for one, endorse it!
In other exploits, such as shark finning and dolphin slaughters that happen the world over, so many culprits are hard at work everyday for their blood money. From your average everyday fisherman looking for an extra buck in a South America to entire mafias and mobs based around the exploitation of these beautiful and misunderstood creatures' lives, the shedding of the blood in the oceans and seas is as indiscriminate as it is unsustainable.
Now I suppose this journal is probably going to ruffle some feathers and, hell, if worse comes to worse, I get banned for expressing my opinions or for advertising against this unlawful and unjust savagery happening the world over. Fact is, that's fine. If people decide to tell me it's not okay, they are explicitly prohibiting my right to free speech based under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. I know that doesn't apply to everyone, seeing as how it's the Internet and we have people from all over the world who use this place. Again, the fact is, that's why I'm putting it here. I'm so sick of watching Whale Wars and knowing that this is continuing everyday, and not just with the whales. I'm sorry if you don't like it, but don't flame me for having an opinion. You're free to express a counter-arguement in a civilized and decent manner, but know that I will not just be talked at like a child and told that I'm wrong because this has nothing to do with furries, so why worry. If anyone should care, it's us who have our unique interest in the animal world.
And of course this whole idea DOES NOT CONSIST SOLELY UPON THE WATERS!!! The deaths of these animals fuel other inhumane and despicable processes on land, as well, such as the disgusting serving of whale-meat and by-products as chum for illegal trawling and long-lining fishing based upon land-based corporations and organizations, as well as notorious fur farms that grow and breed animals simply to slaughter and skin them for ridiculous fur pelts paid for by the rich and stupid.
Make what you want of my idea that the word gets spread about this injust and indescribably cruel process that is become of the human need for vanity and ridiculous luxury. Call it dumb, call it unnecessary, call it what you want, ban me if that's what you want. I won't and can't stop you, but I won't stop trying to tell those who care and convince those who ignore the truth. Governments should be apalled at what they finance, but of course, if they aren't making money off of it, they don't want to concern themselves with it. The majority of - for example - Canadians (yes, again I call upon the maple leaf) - as stated by "Pirates For The Sea" - disagree and do not wish the continuation of the slaughter of the harp and hood seals. The government, however, refuses to listen, despite the many protests in front of major political centers "up north." This, as Captain Watson states, shows that the Canadian government does not listen to the voice of its own people. This is not just a Canadian problem, of course, but it definitely goes to show how far money and greed and the blind eyes of politicans can lead into the deaths of the beautiful and innocent creatures around the world. "Scientific research" and "prey population stabilization" my tail.
Again, if you don't agree, you can debate with me civil-ly, but I won't listen to trolls and flamers just because they don't like what I'm saying. Don't read it if you don't like it!
But for those who are reading this and do care about preserving the natural beauty of the world and all the life held within it, spread the word! Take action, do boycotts of products and food of illegally- and inhumanely-killed animals, write politicians, do what you can! We have to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves! Corny as that sounds, it's true. It's damn true.

Below is the link to the Sea Shepherd website that contains tons of information about their efforts and the facts about the injustice and the bloody swath cut through the earth and spilled into its waters. I, as of today, have officially joined the Shepherd wbsite, and I advise any other supporters to, as well, and if you can, make a donation. Also, if you'd like more information, there are many reputable sites that give more aspects on the various operations. Avoid the opinions of the Institution for Cetacean Research, however. THEY CONDONE MANY OF THE PRACTICES OF THE HUNTERS!!!

As a small side note, if you agree with me and would like this kind of message spread to others, please link this journal to those people, or better yet, make your own journal! I know I won't get a whole lot of expose, having only two watchers on here, but every person who knows and is informed is another potential savior of those beautiful creatures that man has decided to destroy in efforts for just a little bit of extra scratch.
I have also toyed with the idea of maybe having a group formed for protesting this horrible slaughter. If you'd like to see such a thing, leave a comment or note. I am only one voice. Please stand with me and help fight this horrible injustice!

An attempt has been made...TO DRAW!!!
Posted 15 years agoYes, it's a miracle, I've actually drawn something, despite my horrible skills. It's just a sketch and I'm not quite proud of it (though it took over two hours to finish!). I'll post it as soon as I can. It'll probably be just a picture of it, since I don't have access to a scanner at the current time, but once I do, I'll try to get that copy up.
Anyways, so it's no surprise, it's a wolf by the name of Tzar'rok. He's one of the many character's I've come up with from inspiration from F-list (his character page is here if you'd like to see it: http://www.f-list.net/c/Tzar-rok/ ). I'd like to have had more detail, but I suck at drawing as it is and I'm amazed I got what I did done. Besides, I felt like it would be ruined if I tried to add his fur patterning and such. So for now, he is what he is. Until I get a better sense of drawing skill, I'll just have to be content with what I've got. So, hopefully I'll get it up soon so you guys can see it. And for any WWE lovers out there like me (I'm looking at you, Demona *hugs*), you'll probably like just a tad more...though I know the pose is a bit off, so you might just hate me for it, too. Oh well, I tried!

Ideas...
Posted 15 years agoI've been thinking about what I could do for some submissions to show all you good (and not-so-good, hehehe) little furs out there, and I'm just kind of running off of little bits of inspiration. I actually re-wrote the lyrics to a song to suit my purposes (Of creative fiction ideas! It's not like I have a plot to take over the world or anything! *hides take-over-the-world planning stuff*) and I plan to post it as soon as I can. However, it feels like I'm running on empty.
WARNING: if you don't know much or anything about The Lion King, you probably won't get the many references I make later on. Just saying.
I know it sounds geeky, but I've always loved The Lion King, and over the past few years, I've acquired a newer, more intense love for the furry tale (and its sequel "Simba's Pride," since I don't really care for 1 1/2). I've recently gotten some inspiration to do a scene similar to "Be Prepared" (THE MOST EPIC SONG IN ALL OF THE ORIGINAL LION KING, AND DON'T YOU FORGET IT!) And "My Lullaby" from Simba's Pride. I just can't seem to work out how I want it. I've got a list of things that the two scenes share in common and some things I'd like in my rendition, but I'm just running out of metaphorical gas somewhere. I don't know what kind of music I would want, and stealing music from someone who's already famous (kind of like I did with my re-write from above) just seems stupid. I want the entirety of my readers to know that my wolf (since the version would be more attuned to a lupine character, hehe) is hurt, angry, and not gonna take it anymore. Yes, I know, he's typical Scar in a wolf's body, but that's where my inspiration came from. I am also contemplating followers/minions/henchmen like with Scar and the hyenas and Zira's pride of the Outsiders.
Anyways, my list that I've come up with so far is as follows:
~ to possibly incorporate the phrase "Bested by no leopard queen, beaten by no lion king" (hehe, like my allusion to the film?)
~ maybe incorporating the phrase "The shadow of the raven spreads its wings wide, the earth now in darkness of my tide" (or something similar)
~ the themes of exile and persecution
~ explaining the (possibly in vain) attempts to forget and forgive past crimes done onto him)
~ the inclusion somewhere in the song/dialogue (song, if I decide to really make this a musical piece, despite the fact that music-making is an all-but-impossible event for me due to lack of equipment and musical talent) of "A symphony of death" (inspired by that very phrase from "My Lullaby")
~ maybe including the phrase, if I could somehow work in where it would fit, "A lust for being bad" (again inspired by "My Lullaby")
~ "the drums of war" should probably be mentioned or referenced to somewhere in there
~ the infamous "mountaintop pan-out" scene at the end (Scar and the hyenas backlit by the moon and the stars, Zira and the Outsiders backlit on the termite mounds by the setting sun, you get what I mean, right?)
~ lighting changes (like when Scar presides over the Nazi-stepping hyenas and such, or Zira's tirade beginning with "The pounding of the drums of war...") and maybe the thought of pyro or something like it (Scar's scenes of the heated volcanic vents) all for dramatic effect
~ the theme or undertone of a drive toward or a return to power, depending on how the storyline would work out
~ the "dual-personality" thing, like Zira had with Kovu and Scar had in the beginning with Simba
~ maybe a scene where the character would be backlit and his eyes would be all aglow
~ and finally, ideas for songs that I could model from: "Kashmir" by Led Zeppelin (epic song, but a bit slow for what I think I would want), "Hallowed Be Thy Name" by Iron Maiden (the original) or the re-make by Cradle of Filth (especially because of the beginning bells), and "The Heart of Everything" by Within Temptation
Anyways, that's just the list for now. I'll most likely add to it more (gods, looking at it even now makes it seem like I'd want to do a cinematic piece, which would be epic if I had even good animating skills, the kind of budget Walt Disney had along with the voice acting crew, and that kind of time), but those are kind of the basics right now. What my real intention was in putting this whole journal together was to see if any of you had thoughts on my ideas or ideas of your own about my fantasy project. If not, the whole thing will probably just fade away, but I just kind of wanted to get it out there so the public would know.
By the way, if you'd like a better reference to the scenes and whatnot that I talk about above, there's a ton of stuff on YouTube, and I have both the "Be Prepared" scene and "My Lullaby" scene in my favorites list, which you can see if you go to my YouTube channel (listed on my user page).
Anyways, if you're still reading this, thank you, I appreciate your devotion. And now...BYE-BYE! *disappears in a burst of thematic flame*

Hmm...
Posted 15 years agoWell... Let's see.... I've joined up...I'm here...
and I guess I'm anxious to be in a new community. But I guess that's to be expected. It's just nice to know that I'm in a place where my likes are not just my own...that I can share them with people who actually understand...
So...time to go out and start doing...something (hopefully not to embarrass myself, lol)
