Uplifting things
General | Posted 7 years agoI think I notice a lot of negativity in a lot of my art friends; they always put themselves down, perhaps they're comparing themselves to other artists with different skill assets and an insanely beautiful portfolio.
I always like to remind people that you will never stop improving in your artistic journey - and no, every piece you make DOES NOT have to be perfect!
In fact, something you think is perfect today - you'll look at it a year from now and see flaws that weren't inherently obvious to you at the time. This is all the process of growing, and every time your pencil/tablet/whatever medium touches the paper or screen, you are improving. You may not THINK you're improving, but you certainly are!
You don't have to stick to one style, I often encourage people to experiment and paint digitally/traditionally, dapple in water colors, dapple in markers, dapple in pencil work. The more you play with, the more you practice, the more you grow.
Also stressing, life studies, structure, anatomy, color theory, perspective - its remarkable how much referencing and studying life itself can vastly help you improve - rapidly at that.
Don't compare yourself to someone else. Don't be envious, jealous, or upset when your work doesn't compare to theirs. Look at them as an inspiration - we're all in the art race together. Adopting toxic mentalities and wondering why someone is successful while you're not is jaded and not a good mentality to adopt.
Idk why I'm even making this journal other than the majorly negative people I've been talking to lately - and how I want to dump some sunshine and love into their coffee.
Recognizing your mistakes and flaws in work is progression; the only time you fail is when you give up and stop drawing all together.
You won't be a master til the day you die. That's the way I see it.
For 2019 I'm taking on the ( inherently brutal ) DRAW EVERY DAY FOR 365 DAYS CHALLENGE. That doesn't mean you have to COMPLETE a piece every day ( that would be nearly impossible for me, since I work brutal 12 hour hospital shifts... ) but even if its for ten, twenty minutes - think of how much that adds up over the year. :D
I will be dappling in water colors more this year - a lowkey passion of mine that I'm privileged enough to have the budget for. I am so excited.
I just wanted to throw a bit of positivism out there. I know it can suck sometimes - and we're all going to have blue days, or days where we hate everything that comes out our hands. Don't fret. It gets better. :'")

Tad 'bout myself
General | Posted 7 years agoShoutout to
annaklava who I've known all the way back - like WAAAY back, for opening my eyes to the furry world. I'm actually really enjoying it, thus far.
Just to rather introduce myself; my name is Haley, but Black or Tea work. I don't care if you call me "she" since I'm CIS asf.
I'm a veterinary technician and laboratory pathologist IRL so I deal heavily with zoonotic disease and animals on the daily; though, my real passion does lie in art and I've had quite a block for some years now wondering what to do and how to improve. Like any artist, I hope one day to make it a full time career - even if it takes decades of practice to accomplish that. :)~
Delvare is my first character; and I do have some other actual fur's in the works, but I'm trying to refrain from uploading sketches ( a die hard bad habit of mine. Who doesn't love pretty sketches.... just me? Shit. )
I just wanted to say thank you for the support and its greatly appreciated.
I'm 26 and prefer not to talk to minors unless its strictly general chatting; even then I'm a bit 'bleh' since if you're under 18 I just feel like I should be patting you on your head saying "Aw you're just a bb". Hard to explain what I mean.
I live in South Florida so I take a lot of inspiration from the world around me; we've got beastly alligators and american crocodiles everywhere - and the environment itself is truly unique and beautiful.
I'm super nice though :'D;; So don't be afraid to message me. I don't bite.
I have discord and will be open to RP down the road; but I like to get to know people before hand, and said people have to understand that I work 12 hour hospital shifts most days and might be slow to reply.
Down the road as my skills and ability to draw fur bbs improve, I might be open to commissions; but I'm -extremely- rusty since I've been not exactly daily drawing for... months now. That really takes a damper on your ability. x_X;
I hope you all have a lovely day~! If I didn't say thank you for watching me, THANK YOU SO MUCH. AGHIGDIODFSDNF.
