Nuzlocke Run... GAME OVER (Days 3-8)
General | Posted 15 years agoWell, that didn't last long. I'm going to give the details in the comic I am slowly and poorly drawing, but the gist of it is: My luck is terrible, critical hits hate me.
The endgame was pretty nerve-wracking, I had a LOT of close calls in the last two gyms, as well as the Victory Road. Slowly but surely, with few hitpoints and few potions, I made it to the Elite Four with Pikablu the Azumarill, Treebeard the Shiftry, Falcor the Flygon, SirWrecker the Armaldo, Bandit the Linoone, and Shade the Crobat.
Sum up of the Elite Four:
Sidney (Dark-type dude) started with Mightyena, SirWrecker made quick work of it work Fury Cutter. After it fainted, he switched to his main weapon, that scary high level Absol (my team being mostly in the mid 40's). Absol gets first strike and takes SirWrecker down by a third of his health. SirWrecker gets it down to about half health continuing with Fury Cutter. Absol noms a berry. After seeing that damage I felt a little uneasy but hoped Fury Cutter would finish it off next round. "Absol used Sword Dance", flashes the screen before Fury Cutter brings it down to like 1 hp. I wasn't about to risk losing a teammate so soon, so I switched to my brick wall, Pikablu. A full restore and two more Sword Dances later, Pikablu was OHKO'd by a Slash attack. I was so sad/furious, so in a vengeful strike Falcor crit Earthquake'd in honor of his fallen ally. The rest of Sidney's team fell to Shade's Aerial Ace.
Phoebe (ghost-type lady) lost her entire team to Treebeard's efforts. Cakewalk.
Then came Glacia (ice)... I led off with Bandit. Managed to pull of 6 Double Teams, two X-accuracy(s), a Dire Hit, and two X-attacks (just to be safe). A full restore later and Bandit was one-shotting her team with Iron Tail, until the Walrein. That Walrein was apparently made of Nintendium because it was indestructible. It took two critical hits (and a bunch of normal ones) just to get it down to half health (post full restore). Then suddenly, against all odds, she lands a Sheer Cold on poor Bandit. Once Bandit fell her comrades were like dominoes. All with an ice weakness (except Sir Wrecker, who was the newbie and was the lowest level), one Ice Beam per was all it took to stop 'em cold.
In a mix of rage and sadness I went to my box and grabbed the one Pokémon I had left that had a chance of survival, Raimundo the Rayquaza. Being driven by nothing but revenge for the fallen Raimundo and I swept the Elite Four, leaving just the Champion.
Wallace apparently had two goals in life: become a water champion, and teach everything Ice Beam. Raimundo could take a few hits, and swept half of his team. But one crit Ice Beam from that ^&*( Milotic was all it took to stop us cold and end the game.

General | Posted 15 years agoRecently, I (along with the rest of my houshold) have started a Nuzlocke run on Pokémon Emerald Version.
For those who do not know, a Nuzlocke run is when you play a Pokémon game and adhere to these 3 rules:
1) You may only catch the first Pokémon you encounter on each Route/Area/Cave/etc. If you don't have Pokéballs sucks to be you.
2) You must nickname every Pokémon you catch, this creates emotional attachment.
3) When a Pokemon faints, you MUST release it.
If you run out of Pokémon or cannot progress because you can't use an HM you need, GAME OVER!

Just as many other fans, I will likely create comics (likely poorly drawn ones) to document the adventure, victories, and mourning involved in this new Pokémon quest. I will at least be keeping a daily log from here on out documenting my Pokémon captured and released, as well as other major events in the game.
Day 1:
Start out with Gex the Treeko, sadly before I can get the Pokédex I end up running into a Poochyena on Route 103. Sad times since no Pokédex means no Pokéballs, so a wasted potential ally. Gex ruins May's Torchic by spamming Absorb, critical hit for the kill. Happiness ensued.
After May, I went back to Littleroot Town to get the Pokédex, and 6 free Pokéballs (yay ^^), the move on to Route 101 to get my first party member. I thought I was in luck, it was a Zigzagoon (my team's pillar in my original Emerald run). Unfortunately Gex was being crit happy and one-hit KO'd poor Zigzagoon. :(
On Route 102 on my way to Petalburg City I managed to get my first new friend, Flutters the Wurmple (named in hopes of a Beautifly later).
Went to Petalburg City, nothing exciting happened. My dad was apparently impressed I went through two routes as a rookie trainer. Then he forced me to watch Wally catch a Ralts.
Onward to Rustboro City! On the way I got two more friends: Mothra the Wurmple (now hoping for a Dustox) on Route 104 and Swoops the Taillow in the woods.
By the time I get out of the woods (and into Rustboro) Mothra evolved into a Beautifly and Flutters evolved into a Dustox X3 I laughed at my poor naming luck. Instead of taking on Roxanne I decided to err on the side of caution and went to see if I could make anymore friends on the surrounding routes, as well as get all my team up to a decent level.
Route 116 yielded Screech the Taillow, Swoops' new partner in crime. Rusturf Tunnel got me Megahurtz (mispelled for pun) the Whismur. <sarcasm> I was totally surprised that I ran into a Whismur for that cave </sarcasm>
After a bit of grinding, my team was up to level 13+ and Gex had evolved into a Grovyle, so I decided it was time to take on Roxanne (the Rock Gym leader in Rustboro). I might note that I tried this type of run once before, and lost because her stupid Nosepass crit-sweeped MY WHOLE TEAM! I figured the extra training would help, which it did for awhile, until her Nosepass used Block on Megahurtz. Poor Megahurtz couldn't take a crit Rock Tomb and the became the first causality of the run, just as it was proving it's worth. RIP Megahurtz :'(
This event was so heart-wrenching I decided getting the Stone Badge was enough for that day.
Day 2:
I say my goodbyes as I release my fallen Megahurtz and move on to hitch a ride with Mr. Briny to Dewford Town. I go to Granite Cave (forgetting I need Flash) and in the first step run into Brofister the Makuhita. After this catch, Flutters and Mothra both Gust their way through Brawly's entire gym (including his team) without needing a potion. Quick and easy Knuckle Badge.
After my easy badge, my team and I head back to Granite Cave (with Flash this time) and deliver the letter to Steven. Mr. Briny then offers to take me to Slateport City, and I gladly accept this offer.
I ruin Team Aqua's endeavor in Slateport, then make my way up to Route 110 to find a new friend and get to the next gym. I befriend Sparky the Electrike on Route 110, returning to Slateport to swap her in for Screech.
I wander around Route 110 and 103 for a bit until Sparky catches up to the rest of the team, and this is where the trouble begins.... I take one step too far up the bridgepath and suddenly "May wants to fight!" Most of her team goes down smoothly, but suddenly she whips out a Lv 20 Combusken! I was scared when its first move was 'Focus Energy,' terrified because crits this early (especially from something that outlevels my whole team AND is supereffective against most of the team) are one-hit KO's. I swap to Sparky and begin my assault. After Sparky got hit once I found out the flaming chicken's attack power was high enough to definitely crit-gib any of my friends. This combined with that focus energy made me uneasy and wary.
Sparky managed to survive until half health, then I figured Swoops could try. The moment Swoops comes out it gets brought down to 1hp by a crit, in panic I switch back to Sparky. Then I was playing the potion dance: keep all of my friends healed switching when on the brink of death. Sparky missteps in this dance and gets finished off by a crit Peck. Her death was not in vain though. In fact, saved her teammates. Her ability 'Static' kicked in when she took the crit and paralyzed Combusken. My now fully-healed Swoops could now outspeed the thing and get 2 hits in for the victory.
After May vanished I went up to Mauville, still distraught over the loss of Sparky. Upon arrival, I went to the Pokémon Center and released poor Sparky. RIP Sparky, you self-sacrificing hero :'( This was the end of the second day, I couldn't risk taking another heavy loss like that.
