Dragoneer was Killed by Healthcare Executives
Posted a year agoit still feels surreal to think about
Dragoneer, the owner of one the largest and oldest still-active furry gallery sites, HERE, was murdered by the healthcare system last night. he died being denied treatment for a pulmonary crisis due to lack of payment while coughing up blood. He posted on bluesky about all of this hours before he passed.
I would not be truly *alive* if I did not enter the furry fandom. I was so repressed that i couldn't fathom the idea that i might be queer without an art-positive, sex-positive, body-positive space like the furry fandom to give me the ability to experiment with my presentation and self-perception. FurAffinity was a crucial entry point. Neer's work was the backbone that lifted the careers of thousands of artists. thousands of queer people met friends & fell in love under his tent. thousands of people realized their true selves under his roof.
all that work snuffed out because a healthcare exec wanted to wring the world dry for a second yacht. people die every day under capitalism for the crime of having no value to extract. it's wild how we're forced to see that as normal. people get their lives cut short by decades every day and instead of treating it like a tragedy it's just fuckin tuesday to us. His life was stolen from us, and what happened to him can and will happen to you. Death to America.

THE INTERNET IS UNDER ATTACK IN THE USA ON 12/14/17
Posted 8 years ago Dear Creative Community members,
This journal is to raise awareness about two very large bills in the United States right now that need more attention: the elimination of Net Neutrality, and a devastating tax bill that is being pressed through alarmingly fast. Both of which drastically affect the creative community, and it’s rather shocking people haven’t been talking about them that much. This is a terrifying problem since the deadline for both bills draws near on 12-14-17.
So, let’s talk about it.
Right now the House and the Senate have enough votes to pass these bills without needing to reach across party lines, and while both the removal of Net Neutrality as well as this new tax plan are more heavily supported by the Republicans BOTH of these are TERRIBLE for all members of the political spectrum who operate as individuals having to report income from the sales of their creative work. Combined they will be causing a drastic reduction in accessibility to the platform used by creative community members (limited internet), and then cut away the small relief found in the few deductions allocated to micro businesses (meaning individuals will have to front more of the cost of running a business and have a higher overall tax burden.)
Let’s first tackle the tax bill.
As far as the tax bill goes, there is less of an impact on those who have established themselves as registered businesses (such as an LLC), but the vast majority of artists, writers, youtubers, streamers, and other creators file as what is referred to as a “Sole Proprietor” - meaning their business is not documented to be separate from them as an individual.
The current tax bill is set to drastically alter how a person can operate as an individual, removing deductions that help pull down the cost of operating a micro business from home over the internet such as the ‘home office’ deduction, material costs, and things that basically help you (if you’re lucky) only pay taxes on the profits made by said business.
And that’s just a piece of it that affects creators! It tears away the foundation that gives support to teachers (who are slated with the cost of buying supplies for their class rooms), anyone needing to claim a dependent (such as those who care for a loved one with a mental illness), and the ways it screws with home owners is just down right impressive. Independent Contractors like Uber drivers, career salesmen, and other jobs with flexible schedules where you make your own work are affected in similar ways
That being said let’s talk about the elimination of Net Neutrality.
Net Neutrality is the principle that Internet service providers (ISPs) should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favoring or blocking particular products or websites. This means by eliminating the current Title 2 Net Neutrality ISPs will have the ability to control the bandwidth of certain websites, it means being allowed to finally segment off parts of the internet behind a paywall.
I’m going to be blunt here…
FURRIES and other creator’s micro economy WILL BE HIT THE HARDEST BY THIS, because most furry content sites don’t have the money to pay for premium bandwidth. Not to mention content restrictions that will become a divide so that websites like FurAffinity will likely be bundled into an extra monthly package for adult content, if it was lucky enough to be included in a “porn package” at all.
Many artists also link to their own websites, or go through other networked websites that allow for them to control how they accept commission proposals. Perhaps FurAffinity, and other larger furry art sites will manage to sneak into basic media packages if we’re lucky, but none of the links provided to people to direct to offsite content will work. There’s a chance that Patreon, for example, will be part of a different package than the one that will give a person access to FA, and so people without said package can’t follow the link to it.
TLDR Summary: The elimination of Net Neutrality, and a new tax bill are threatening the future of everyone in this country no matter where a person falls on the political spectrum, and combine they have the potential to cripple the creative communities.
IF ANYBODY WANTS TO PRESERVE THE INTERNET AS WE KNOW IT, YOU MUST LET THE FCC AND YOUR CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVES KNOW HOW BAD THESE BILLS WILL BE FOR EVERYBODY!

god FA's Story Editor SUCKS
Posted 8 years agohey, FA admins, give me a text box that I can copy paste my story into. Right now I need to convert all my stories to TXT files, open them up again, reformat them ALL OVER AGAIN, and then send them to FA for upload. There is a reason i've avoided uploading to this site for four years despite being in the fandom since 2013. Go look at what SoFurry does and hash out a way to do what they do. Take a look into a mass uploader while you're at it. seriously, i don't know why ANY writers are on this site at all.
Calling all Midwest Furs
