DV's Guide to a PhD
Posted 8 years agoIf you wanna know what it's like starting a PhD, find a popular anime you've never seen and start watching at Season 8, Episode 15.
And, when you find yourself inevitably lost in the cthulian web of concepts, plot devices and terms so dense you'd swear you accidently switched it back to Japanese by accident, don't worry! There are resources to help you. Namely, rambling paragraphless theories from niche wordpress forums, tumblr posts, and Fanfiction.net.
Oh, and you're only allowed to hang out with die-hard fans of the show who are already three seasons and two spin-off series ahead, after what sounds like about four major plot changes.
Good luck~!
(I mean, it's a pretty damn fantastic experience, but man am I lost sometimes...!)

[Life Update] Dark Violet likes Black Holes!
Posted 8 years agoHi there!
It's been a while since I chatted like this, and since then I've had a bunch of stuff happen, so I think it's probably a good idea to just give you an idea of what's going on in my life :3
So, what's the main thing that's new with the wolf? Well - I'm now a PhD Student! That's right - after graduating last year and having a gap year (mostly composed of drawing, writing and wondering what to do with my life), I now have a PhD placement studying Astrophysics at the University of Southampton, and I've been here for two weeks now! It's been an interesting and fantastic time so far, studying Black Holes and all the mysteries that surround them. Yep, a Porn Artist is researching Black Holes. How about that :3
Now, what does this mean for art and stories?
Well, in short, there's sadly gonna be more time between each release I manage. Art and writing both take dedication and energy that an active researching career rather take a lot of! I won't be able to manage the posting rate that I kept up over the past year, alas, and more than that, I'm going to have to hold off on taking any new commissions indefinitely - at least until I have a better grasp on how the heck to handle my life :P
However! There is an upside! First, I can tell you that I actually have quite a backlog of stuff to post - from Espeon Hypnosis porn to some Great War of Plaisir art, I'm currently just under two months behind in artwork - and as for stories, well, I have at least three finished or almost-finished stories that are awaiting various triggers to post, not to mention several in the works! Rest assured, even in the most hectic times, I'll have some good stuff to show you guys <3 And not just that - with this time for personal art, I hope to improve my style and get out pictures I've wanted to do for a good year now. Rest assured - I'm hardly gonna stop partaking in one of my greatest passions :3
So that's about it from me. All that's remains is to wish you a good Sunday, and ask - hey, how's your life right now? Whatever's going on, I hope you're on the up and up :3
Take care!
~DV
PS: Is anyone here on the South Coast of England? I already know of
blitz-firepaws, but there's gotta be more of you. We should totally chat sometime and y'all should let me know when the local meets are!
<3

Eurofurence 23 - A Convention Fit for a Pharaoh
Posted 8 years agoWhew. What a ride.
I went to this year's Eurofurence expecting a wild ride, a blast across ages - and ho boy, did it deliver. It was a convention so packed, so energetic and so intense that I'm not sure how to start. Hell, I'm not sure how I did it. I don't think I got a full eight hours of sleep at any night there - on some nights I (guiltily) didn't even manage six.
Why? Well, because almost every moment, there was something to do. Jetting between place to place, chatting on beanbags, photographing fursuiters, and wandering in awe around the Dealer's Den all conspired to push aside trivial matters, like eating or breathing.
So, what had this wolf so flighty, hyped up and distracted for an entire week...?
Making A Sparkledog
One of the most important parts of the convention for me personally, I hosted my very first panel alongside the veteran
BRN.Quil! The task was to make a new OC by taking suggestions from the audience, and drawing it before them. The result was... well. It was something like this.
There's not much I can say about the result that isn't in the description of that picture, but I shall repeat how fantastic our audience was. There was no shortage of suggestions, rolling tides of laughter, and the atmosphere in the room was incredible for the entire event. Thank you to BRN for the help in hosting, and of course, to everyone who attended! You were delightful from start to finish, and you should all feel ashamed at your creation.
(PS: I know I've done this a lot so far, but this bears repeating - a huge thank you to
Catling for their stupendous fanart of the creature, which you can find in the description of the piece. They ran up in the middle of the panel to gift it to us, and I was blown away. Thank you!)
Stigmata's Panels
I attended a good few panels at EF this year, from Kyell Gold's panel on how to write short stories, to Sithy's panel on Egyptian Hieroglyphics and history. They were all well worth the time and effort to go to, but none more so than
Stigmata's duo of incredible panels - "Making Art that Matters" and "Fursonas: Types and Stereotypes". The first promised to help you make better art for commissioners, but I didn't expect what happened; Once we were inside, the doors were closed, he brandished a sledgehammer and smashed life lesson after life lesson into our faces. I tried to make notes, but there wasn't much I could do in the face of what was hitting me. It made me frown, gasp, hurt and laugh in an incredible hour-long presentation that I know will stick with me. The second panel was a more comedy panel, with a few too-close-to-home descriptions of furry stereotypes that had people laughing and tugging collars all around.
I managed to catch up with Stigmata in the Dealer's Den later on, and had a good chat with him two times - and I can assure you that he's a fantastically open, passionate, stand-up guy. He'll say what he thinks, and what he thinks has been well-thought out and is delivered in a respectful and eager manner which makes him a joy to converse with. You can feel his enthusiasm to talk with every line, and it was a lovely experience as we talked about everything from how art can fight issues in our society, to what a relationship means. So, to Stigmata, thank you. It meant so much.
The Dances
The Neon Dance and Dead Dog were the two stars of the dances this year. From remixes of Get Low, Mr Brightside and YMCA all the way to Game of Thrones and a hardcore remix of Moana's "How far I'll go" that had me ecstatically jumping around, it was a thrilling experience. The Classic Dance should really be mentioned too for its delightful atmosphere and fun, that I wish I had been awake enough to experience - but hey, getting to run around to Take On Me in typically internet fashion was a blast~
Germany
A very general one, but this year taught me one thing - that it is possible for me to speak another language. Oh, I languished in the mire of tenses and cases, and swam my way through the depths of my incomplete memory trying to find how to say things with the words I do know, and certainly miscommunicated several times - but from getting to chat with passing furries, to even managing to get through an entire ordering process at a restaurant (including greetings and farewells) in nothing but German... it was an incredible experience, and thank you to the waiters, hotel staff, furries and general people of Deutschland that put up with my awful accent along the way :3
(PS: Once again. Marin Restaurant. Echt Klasse.)
Friends
It's inevitable, but it's incredibly necessary, so for a final point I'll give the due thanks and appreciation to all the folk I hung out with.
From my roommate
BRN.Quil, to my long-time friends
Wrincewind and
Karaway, to the friends I only knew online
Kazzypoof,
Karumaru and
node6, all the way to those I met while there -
TheMasterPotato,
FyfeMcAbel, Robin the Sylveon - to old friends like
Streetfox, Nexus, Renga and Cookie that I met once more from the previous EF - to all the countless others that I couldn't possibly name here - it really is you guys that I go to conventions for, so thanks so much for making it a wonderful, heart-warming experience.
(PS: Kazzypoof and TheMasterPotato were two folks I met for the first time at EF this year... only to realise that I'd stopped and photographed the latter at last EF for their adorable Vaporeon getup, and even attended a bunch of the same panels as them! x3 I wonder who else I'll have similar stories with in future years...)
So those are the main reasons I'm sitting here with hurting arms and a foggy brain, even though it's now the third day after the convention has ended - and I'm not even mentioning the incredible suits (including a full Jaffa outfit from Stargate, god damn), the fantastic Hotel Staff (What you saw in some rooms, dear god, I wouldn't wish that on anyone), and the stunning work of the entire PawPet's show team (from the designers and operators of the wonderful Ortha all the way to the once again chills-inducing composing of
FoxAmoore).
I'd like to finish off by giving possible the biggest thanks necessary to the EF staff and security - the tireless hard work, dedication and tears of their volunteering which make every EF possible, and this one wasn't the exception in any way. From dealing with Ladengate all the way to someone sleeping on the roof, you guys made something incredible - and I cannot thank you enough.
Anyway! For the rest of you out there in internetland, life will return to this half-dead wolf soon. I assure you that I'm energised, inspired, and ready to go with a bunch of new ideas! Meanwhile, my backlog of finished art and stories will be coming out over the next couple of weeks - so I hope you enjoy all that~
Take care, thanks once again to everyone that made EF23 the stunning experience it was, and as always...
Enjoy!

Dark Violet at Eurofurence 23! [+PANEL: Making a Sparkledog]
Posted 8 years agoHi folks!
It's that time again - time for me, once more, to wander off to Berlin in search of good food, fine company and dances that go unhealthily long into the night. It's Eurofurence!
I'll be heading to that pleasure-cruise of a convention with a bunch of folks from last year, alongside a few others I'm already planning to meet while there. Most of the information can be found in the meme below, but in the meantime, a small announcement: I'm going to be running a panel with
BRN.Quil!
The panel is gonna be filled with laughs, sweets and painfully obvious social commentary. It's on Thursday at 4pm in ECC Room 4, so come and have a bit of fun! :D
Also - if you wanna meet up at all, give me a shout! Either shoot me a note, or send me a message on (at)DarkestViolet on Telegram (which I should hopefully be checking throughout the convention). Otherwise, keep an eye out for this badge as you're wandering around. Hopefully I'll see you there!
Meantime, take care all! I'll post a bunch of stuff before then, and hopefully I'll see some of you in a couple of weeks :3
Where are you staying?
I'm one of the lucky ones that got into the Estrel!

Wrincewind and
Six~~, with plans & hopes to meet up with at least

In general, no! But hey, hang out in the Artist's Lounge with me. Worst case scenario you'll have some awkward conversation for thirty minutes while I draw stuff I shouldn't.
Do you do trades?
I might do :3
Do you do commissions?
I already have a fair queue, and I won't have the ability to do much more than sketches at the Convention - so probably not!
Do you have prints/ CDs?
Alas, no. At some point, though!

Depends. Read the signs :P
Can we hang out?
Almost certainly! Again, read the signs!
Are you nice?
I feel I'm not qualified to answer that question. I hope so!

Can we go out for a dinner?
Probably! There's a lovely place just down the road that's fantastic...
Are you buying art?
It'll probably be unavoidable :P
What do I have to watch out for, when I am meeting you?
Probably just if I'm busy or going somewhere. I'd love to chat during some downtime, but if I'm rushing to a place I'll have to take a raincheck!
What is the best way to contact you?
As noted before, contact me on telegram ((at)DarkestViolet), or even via FA notes!
May I kidnap you to my room?
You'd better have snacks.
You look pretty tired, are you ok?

Help out artist Dark Violet and writer BRN.Quil in their misguided quest to make the worst original character ever.
In a world where everyone has an OC, it takes effort to make yours great - so why not take the easy route and make an awful one instead? Dark Violet and BRN.Quil will be taking your suggestions, drawing the abomination and creating a backstory before your very eyes. Not recommended for those with artistic integrity or taste. The panel is gonna be filled with laughs, sweets and painfully obvious social commentary. It's on Thursday at 4pm in ECC Room 4, so come and have a bit of fun! :D

3000 Watcher Milestone!
Posted 8 years agoSo guys, as you've probably been able to tell by now, I'm back from Turkey - maybe the ol' posting pictures might have tipped you off. I had a grand old time with some absolutely lovely company in a beautiful country indeed! I hope to return in the future for sure :3
While I was away though, a very cool thing happened - I hit the 3000 watcher milestone!
I'd like to give an absolutely huge thank you to all of you who've helped me to this. It's an absolutely stunning number and I'm utterly indebted to you guys for it! Thanks a million for all your help and support, making me the artist I am today :3

To all the Brits - REGISTER TO VOTE! [Also: Off to Turkey!]
Posted 8 years agoI'm hoping to make this short, sharp and simple!
Today is the last day to register to vote here in the UK for the general election next month. If you live here and you're 18 or over, and you haven't registered yet, I ask that you do one simple thing today - just watch this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shIOZdEzkiU
Voting is important, far more important than you probably think. More people didn't vote in the last election than voted for the winning party - essentially not voting was the most popular single choice. And in an age where the current party in power wants to bring government regulation into the internet, including restricting access to pornography, this is a vote which very much DOES concern you. (By the way - this is merely one part of the manifesto from one party. Please research all the parties in your area before deciding! Don't just take the word of someone who's currently drawing penises for a living!)
And if you really hate everyone? I'll reiterate what was said in that video earlier...
It is your DEMOCRATIC RIGHT to walk into that polling station, take you paper, and draw the biggest cock and balls on the entire piece of paper you can. That's still counted as a vote ('Spoiling your ballot paper', in fact), and is more important than just not voting, because instead of showing you're too lazy, it shows that no-one is good enough.
So come on, UK! Register to vote, draw an X (or a giant dog cock) on your ballot paper, and let's keep democracy alive :3
PS: I'm off to Turkey for a week! Gonna be relaxing with the glorious company of
Wrincewind,
Six~~ and
ArcaneReno. Have a lovely time here, and take care, the lot o' ya!

Posted 8 years agoHey guys!
The awesome folk over on Furry Network have created a new commission system, and I've been selected as one of the testers for it. How cool is that? :D Anyway, I'm going to be taking a couple of quick sketch commissions over there to help out - with a discount, too!
https://beta.furrynetwork.com/darkv.....et/pricesheet/
https://beta.furrynetwork.com/darkv.....et/pricesheet/
https://beta.furrynetwork.com/darkv.....et/pricesheet/
Here's a quick FAQ to cover anything you might want to know:
Do I have to be on Furry Network to get one of these commissions?
Yes. The system uses an in-site message system designed for the buying and selling of commissions, so you'll need an account to access that.
Why is this commission system important?
The system allows both commissioner and artist to talk about a commission, set scopes and all the other good stuff that's usually done over emails, FA Notes, etc.. However, not only is this system nice and secure like the rest of the site, but also allows for mediation from FN staff if there is an issue with the commission (such as the artist not responding, or the commissioner not paying, or the commission not being to the commissioner's liking, etc..) - this gives a safety net for both sides.
Oh, and most importantly - the money transfer is in the system!
What commissions are you offering?
I'm currently offering coloured sketch commissions at over a 15% discount. Here are a few examples (Warning, NSFW!):
The Story of a Good Girl
'Bre Breeding Bird
Indulgence
Great!, So, how do I get a commission?
Simple! Just head over here and hit that 'Request Commission' button to ask for a slot! Careful though - there're a limited number of places~!
Alright, that's about it. Have a great day!
PS: Waiting on a commission already and not heard back from me? Shoot me a note and let me stumble over myself apologising!

[New Plaisir Writer] Nicolaus - "Copernican Theory"
Posted 8 years agoOnce more with feeling, this time we have the new writer
Nicolaus, with some new stories from him!
Nico is a Meowstic who lives in the local village, where the only thing sparser than the population is his social calendar. Spending his time in his small student room, he doesn't want to involve himself with that ill-reputed den just down the road...
...and yet, as the days tick by, curiosity tugs ever harder at his mind...
What is pushing Nicolaus from Plaisir? What will eventually push him over the edge? And most importantly, what will he find when he's there - or rather, who?
Do go along and find out in a fine debut piece indeed!
Copernican Theory, by Nicolaus, out now!
I hope you enjoy it~

[New Plaisir Writer] Lakuta - "Lakuta's Pokémon of Plaisir"
Posted 8 years agoHere we go with another writer, and this one is a good friend of mine from the Manchester meets! It's
Lakuta with his new bunch of stories, his 'Pokémon of Plaisir'.
Lakuta is an adventurer, a ruin crawler, a cave spelunker; if it's interesting, he'll explore it, and if it's shiny, he'll probably acquire it. His bag holds a number of interesting trinkets and gewgaws - and not a few gold coins too!
So when he comes across Plaisir, of course he's interested - but it seems that others are also quite interested in him...
What will happen...?
Read "Lakuta's Pokémon of Plaisir" to find out~
Volume #1: Pruina
Volume #2: Damal
Volume #3: Gabrielle
Hope you like them :3

[New Plaisir Writer] Fawayne - "Food Porn"
Posted 8 years agoWe've got another lovely fellow to join the ranks of Plaisir writers - say hello to
Fawayne!
Café Plaisir is more than just a brothel - it's practically a hotel. As such, it naturally hosts its own set of kitchens to serve all its patrons delightful meals to go along with - and sometimes accentuate - their entertainment.
But food doesn't just happen - on the contrary, it takes time, effort and finesse to get to the culinary heights that Plaisir experiences. And so, we arrive at the chefs - and while having a chef passionate about their food is certainly an ideal, sometimes it's a question of how far they take that passion.
Well. This is Plaisir. The answer is pretty obvious...
"Food Porn", by Fawayne, is a glorious and punny tale with some of the most fun descriptions I've read in the universe. Do go check his wonderful work out here~
Café Plaisir Fantasies: Food Porn
Enjoy~!

[New Plaisir Writer] Allester Darkflame - "The Shadow Fox"
Posted 8 years agoBeen a while since my last shoutout, so why not name the next one on my list - it's
Allester Darkflame!
Café Plaisir is a self-contained community for people from all walks of life - there's a job for you here, no matter your skillset! And, like all good brothels, discretion is key; as such, there's undoubtedly a few people at Plaisir that are running from something more than just seeking employment.
Allester is one of these people; haunted by a dark past, Plaisir is an escape for the anthro Zorua and his eclectic family.
But can one truly escape their past...?
Read all about it over on SoFurry - for kink reasons, the stories have to be posted there. Give them a look, and see if they take your fancy!
Café Plaisir: Characters and Stories
Café Plaisir: Ch. 1 - The Shadow Fox
Café Plaisir: Ch. 2 - The Birthday Breeding
Hope you enjoy!

[New Plaisir Writer] Fableye - "Spirit" and "Passion"
Posted 8 years agoWell, look at that - you don't have any new writers for a while and a few come along at once. And damn, do we have a bounty! First up, we have the absolutely incorrigible
Fableye, or Fae, with her first stories into Plaisir.
I'd like to note that she's been involved in Plaisir for several months now, ever since commissioning this story from October. She said that she doesn't like to write, merely pay others to do it for her...
Yeah, that lasted a long time, didn't it? :D
Anyway, my only regret is that I'm so late doing this, that she's written not one, not two, not three, but FOUR stories in the Plaisir universe! And I gotta say - you guys have gotta check these out, since they're just great.
So, what are they about?
In one storyline, we have the free spirit of Drake; a shy Flygon, unsure about the world and his place in it, suddenly thrown into Plaisir amidst a whirlwind of sudden fame. What got him there, and how will he cope being auctioned off in the Café's most powerful area of vice?
Find out Drake's story in the following three tales!
Displaced Spirit - Spirit Pt. 1
Spirit Sold - Spirit Pt. 2
Shattered Spirit - Drake Au 1
And in another storyline (and I'll admit, my personal favourite, if nothing else then for idea alone), we meet Libra; a Zangoose from another town over. She's come to Plaisir to meet with Paith, the resident liaison to Pro²Creation, a long-established breeding group. Why? What for? What will happen? Well, saying too much would be a spoiler, but I will say that it involves a Zangoose... and a very nice idea indeed...
See what's going on with her right here~
Passionate Hate - Passion Pt. 1
Give those descriptions a read and if any take your fancy, I urge you to go have a look! They're fine stories indeed and you won't be disappointed. Enjoy~

Posted 9 years agoGo on then. End of the year, I'm feeling a bit at a loss - let's hear some questions :D
Why not a question to you guys to start off - what was this year's New Year's resolution for you, and have you accomplished it? What about next year? :3
(Personally, this year's resolution was to be happier in general! I think I've accomplished that, even if I still get anxious and worried over a bunch of stuff. Maybe I can work on that! Otherwise, for next year, my resolutions are to get a PhD position [or failing that, a job], make my art 'flow' better, and to spend more time with others!)
So off you go then, ask me anythin' ya want~!

Café Plaisir: The Places of Plaisir
Posted 9 years agoCafé Plaisir is a pitstop for passing truckers, a hotel for weary travellers, and of course above all else, a brothel for all who enjoy both the more sensual and bestial sides of Pokémon. Our pleasure is the pleasure of the customers - and to that end, we have many rooms with which we can offer full services, settings, fantasies and luxuries for our valued clientele.
Read on for a description of the most important and most significant rooms in the Café, as well as a number of sources for further viewing and reading if you're interested!
- Captivate, Stage and Private Rooms
Café Plaisir is, at its heart, a Brothel - and perhaps this is most properly demonstrated in Captivate, otherwise known as the Special Bar. Enjoy a drink in one of Plaisir's largest rooms, while watching a whole host of your Waiters perform on stage - or even on the three stripper poles on catwalks out amongst your seats. And if just looking isn't enough for you, you can rent private rooms up on the balcony for yourself and a friend to enjoy the view - and each other - in your own privacy. Sometimes, Captivate is host to visiting performers - and don't miss our Waiter Showcases or Contest events!
Appearances:
Art:
Ad-Hoc Bartop
Story:
Record Zero
- Dark Pulse
One of the most popular destinations at Plaisir, Dark Pulse is the Café's nightclub. With an entrance on the Ground Floor, one need only walk past the bar and the people milling around with drinks and waiters, and then descend the steps to a two-level circular cave of pure aural hedonism. Usually open right until the sun comes up over the plains, it's a place for drinking, raving, and throwing inhibitions to the wind.
Appearances:
Art:
In the Nightlife, Under the Table
Story:
Neon Staccato
- The Dungeon
While Dark Pulse revels in freedom, the Dungeon commands restraint; stone floors, low lighting and a selection of complimentary toys are open for your use here, be that on yourself, or on your submissive. This room is watched over by a Dungeon Master, a Noivern, who makes sure that everything is as safe - and as fun - as can be.
Appearances:
Art:
How The Mighty Have Fallen
Story:
Guilty Pleasure
- Function Rooms
Why roleplay in a bedroom when you can book a whole room out for you, your friends and some waiters to help you along? Café Plaisir has four function rooms ready for your fantasies to take shape - be it worshipped in a throne room, a rather different Sex Ed classroom, or more! Scenes are changed on a regular basis, so be sure to check back frequently!
Appearances:
Story:
The Great War of Plaisir - Act I
- The Games Room & Poker Lounge
While you're staying at Plaisir, if you feel the need for a bit more conventional adrenaline, then head to the Games Room! With computers, slot machines, pinball machines and more, you'll be high on serotonin in no time. And if that's not enough, head upstairs to the Poker Lounge, where you may even leave with a heavier wallet - or perhaps even a waiter for the night.
Appearances:
Story:
The Mistake
- Guest Bedrooms, VIP Rooms & Type Bedrooms
Plaisir would not be a proper brothel without bedrooms! We offer many rooms with charges on a per-room, per-night basis, and package deals including time with a waiter of your choice ensure that you'll never need to go lonely here.
Café Plaisir has many different kinds of rooms to cater to any customer and any need. From basic rooms, penthouse suites and VIP rooms to even bedrooms themed after every Pokémon type, there's something for everyone.
Appearances:
Art:
Hot Nights with Feral Lust
Story:
Little Diamonds (Basic) / Rain-Reigned October (Penthouse) / The Mistake (VIP)
- HR Rooms
Plaisir's joint heads of HR, Coco and Clarice, each have their own office ripe for their jobs. Coco's is formal and proper for the task of interviewing potential clients, while Clarice's has specialised Air Conditioning units that brings the room down below freezing - perfect for a Glaceon.
Appearances:
Stories:
The Interview (Coco's Office) / Café Plaisir: Types Mismatched, Part 2 (Clarice's Office)
- The Inner Garden & Balconies
For a breath of fresh air right by your doorstep, the Inner Garden of the Bedroom Block is perfect to sit and enjoy relaxation while still being surrounded by all the conveniences of the Café. Enjoy the shade of trees and the smell of flower beds while supping a drink on a bench, brought to you by waiters like Nature; an outside-loving Lucario, one of a handful of waiters that tend to the flora of Plaisir. Alternatively, enjoy the sun on one of the balconies that look down into this garden. Worried about the sun being behind the buildings? Plaisir's state-of-the-art Solar Mirror stretches across one corner of the roof above, making sure to bathe the grounds below in sunshine almost all day.
Appearances:
Art and Story:
In His Garden (Inner Garden) / Café Plaisir: A Late Night Order (Balcony)
- The Lounge & Special Lounge
Sometimes, the hustle and bustle of Plaisir might be too much for you, or perhaps you just want to relax in company for a while - when this is the case, then feel free to enjoy the Lounge! Situated with lovely views of the Café's extensive gardens and hosting its own small bar and varied seating options, the Lounge is a bright and spacious area for everyone to enjoy and relax in.
And if your relaxation is a little more lewd than that, then just head through the adjacent doors to the Special Lounge - where its dark-tinted windows and rose-red decor mean that modesty gives way to rampant exhibitionism at your pleasure.
Appearances:
Story:
The Great War of Plaisir (Lounge) / Hot Nights with Feral lust (Special Lounge)
- Main Bar, Lobby & Kitchens
A central hub for much of Plaisir life, the Main Bar is an important, vibrant nexus for all Plaisir matters. Be you just passing by on your way to your room, or stopping for a drink from Jack the ever-present Typhlosion, here you will find a fine place to get a drink, order a meal, or even peruse the passing waiters in a cozy, european-themed setting.
Leading from the Main Bar is the Lobby, where all new guests enter the Café. One usually finds themselves greeted by Cheryl the hyperactive Lopunny and Minka, the silent Gardevoir, in a plush, warm setting.
Meanwhile, behind the Main Bar is a set of fully equipped kitchens, ready to serve any culinary need you desire.
Appearances:
Art:
Waiting Hand and Paw
Story:
Hentai Kyuubi
- Management Bedrooms (Nikki, Jack and Firenze)
Three of Café Plaisir's management team have on-Premise bedrooms for quick response and ease. Nikki (Public Liaison), Jack (Senior Bartender) and Firenze (General Manager) all have plush, luxury, en-suite bedrooms above the Lobby.
Appearances:
Art:
Lazy Mornings
Story:
October's Comeuppance, Part 2: Due Reward
- Massage Area & Special Massage Area
After a long journey or a full night, why not relax with a massage? Plaisir boasts full service, with Masseurs skilled in many different kinds and types. And if you're looking for a different kind of relaxation, our Special Massage Area is ready to give you the most delightful of endings.
Appearances:
Art:
A Proper Massage (Special Massage Area)
Art and Story:
Elegantly Purposeful Susu (Massage Area)
- Rooftop
Plaisir's Rooftop is off-limits to all customers, and only rarely traversed by staff who need to access the numerous air vents, water towers and solar panels required to supply the Café with its utilities.
Appearances:
Art:
Rooftop Prowlers
Story:
Café Plaisir: Prowlers of the Rooftop
- The Sick Room
In the unlikely (or likely, we don't judge) event of an injury at Plaisir, we have a Sick Room on hand for use by all our guests, overseen most of the time by our resident nurse, Boora the Goodra. Able to mend anything from scratches to a couple of broken bones, our Sick Room can handle eventualities that all but the most raucous of nights cause.
Please note: The Sick Room is only meant for non-emergency care. For serious injuries or infections, please contact the front desk immediately.
Appearances:
Story:
To Eat a Mocking Bird (Warning: Soft Vore)
- Waiter Bedrooms
Plaisir's basement includes around forty separate waiter bedrooms to house a fraction of Plaisir's workforce, if they so choose to live on-site. The majority of these are bedsits, with modest kitchen, seating and sleeping areas for general day-to-day life. Meanwhile, a small subset of temporary bedrooms - for short-term or new waiters - merely offer beds and simple storage.

Scenes are changed on a regular basis, so be sure to check back frequently!

Café Plaisir: Chasing Ghosts Pt. 0 (Story by Varalen)
Posted 9 years agoBeen a while since I've done one of these, but absence makes the heart grow fonder; take a look at a new Plaisir Story that we have, by the all-new writer,
Varalen!
It's a glorious new day for Plaisir, and it seems a couple of prospective new hires have come to show their stuff. A harried supervisor is tasked with assessing Ray, an optimistic Typhlosion, and Spade, a cryptic, seemingly asocial Leafeon. How will their - very Plaisir - interview go...?
The first story in a whole new series at Plaisir: "Café Plaisir: Chasing Ghosts Pt. 0 -- The Interview", by Varalen. Check it out!

What's your favourite Rain music?
Posted 9 years agoIt's raining outside right now; been doing it most of the day, and man is it lovely. When this happens, my go-to track has to be Falana, from the Dust: An Elysian Tale OST. It plays on the main menu to a rain sound effect, and is just... so relaxing, y'know? Give it a listen!

So go on then, what tracks do you guys like to listen to during the rain?

[Commission Journal]- Dark Violet is CLOSED for commissions!
Posted 9 years agoATTENTION!
I am now CLOSED for commissions. I have a full queue, so I think I'll deal with these before I do anything else!
If your name appears in the list at the end of this journal, you've already got a place! Hopefully I've gotten everyone - if you've messaged me about a commission, but I haven't put it on there, just give me a poke, since I've most likely just been a ditzy wolf.
Have a great day!
Commission Information is now live! CLICK HERE to read it!
Now, onto the FAQ...
Commission Procedure (or "What to read if you're going to get a Commission!")
Okay, first and foremost, this should be stated:
Commissions are NOT first come first served!
They will be taken thusly:
Over the next few days, I'll be taking in several ideas for commissions, and then deciding which ones I want to take on. This is not only fairer to those who can't get on FA as much, but it also means that I can pick the commissions I'll be able to do to the best of my abilities.
If I want a commission for you, what do I need to do?
There's no one firm way that you need to submit the information - be it comment, note, skype message or otherwise - but however you do it, be sure to include the following information:
What you want - Self explanatory. I like to think of myself as pretty psychic, but I prefer you to actually tell me what you want instead of trying to extract it mentally - so exhausting! Either way, make it as detailed as you can, and if you want to leave anything to artistic freedom, I can do that too.
Ref Sheets/Documents - Remember, I can work from visual or text-based refs.
Choice of style - Sketch, Coloured Sketch, Full Colour or Okami? Don't forget, I can also do stories and ref sheets! We can discuss the prices for those if you're interested.
Contact - As stated earlier, some kind of chat program is preferred!
Do you want a story to go alongside your picture? - See the 'Crimson Story Deal' below!
What will happen then?
I will collect a number of commissions and then decide which ones (and how many) I can take on, bearing workload in mind. Note, I may leave the decision for a few days! I'm not sure how many commissions I'll be taking on, or for how long. You can find the queue at the bottom of this journal.
The rest of the FAQ:
What will I get?
When you commission me, you'll receive the following:
- The picture you commissioned in the original resolution (Typically around 3840x2160 [16:9] or something around that kind of size)
- A scaled-down version for FA and other places.
- A Thumbnail for the image
- A wallpaper version of the picture in your chosen resolution (if possible)
- Numerous periodic updates all the way through to ensure that you get what you want! This can be done via notes or email, but regular contact via Skype is much preferred. Alternatively, if you want to just give me free reign, I can do that too!
When will I get it by?
Times for art can vary between piece and level.
Working consistently on one picture, from start to finish: Okami Art and Sketch pieces can be done in a day, Coloured Sketches may take a couple of days and full colour will probably take about a week.
Please note that I will be asking questions and for your opinion on what I do, and sometimes it’ll be on a vital part of the commission that I can’t proceed without; for example, I can’t go from the sketch stage to the lineart stage if you haven’t approved the sketch. Be sure to check whatever service we’re using regularly and give plenty of feedback! I want you to get the most out of this art!
What's the Crimson Story Deal?
Stories always go down well in these situations, I've found! Hence, this time, I've teamed up with
OctoberFlixard for a little joint offer.
If you order a picture from me, and a story from him to go alongside, you'll get 10% off the price of both!
October has been a writer for many years now, and most recently has done some stellar work in the Café Plaisir universe, gaining my full confidence with not only my characters but the whole scene. I worked with him during New Years for a Pay-What-You-Want Short Stories for Charity event, which turned out to be a huge success, and I'm very excited to be working with him again.
The specialities of this Ninetales writer tend to be ferals, quirky humour, character interactions, rough play and reckless, hedonistic sex. Also he bites.
If you wanna know more, his stories are all across his page, but I recommend Sample Pot for humour and Little Diamonds for his typical sexy, fun and adventurous work!
If you want a story from him, prices are currently at $3 per 1000 words - and remember, the deal is that if you get a story with your art, it's 10% off the price of both!
What if I bought a picture at one level (e.g. sketch), and (assuming you can) I want you to draw it at the next/a higher level (e.g full colour)?
If you have a sketch and want it to be any of the other levels, then I can totally do that - and it'll only cost the difference in price, nothing else! However, I can't do this between any other levels (for example, a Coloured Sketch cannot easily be upgraded to a Full Colour image).
How do you accept payment?
I usually accept payment via PayPal - but I might be open for other methods, such as Bank Transfer or even in person if you're nearby. Information will be given when you commission!
When will I pay you?
I'm pretty flexible with paying, and I usually don't ask for any money until it's obvious that I can complete the piece - but you can pay me up front if you wish!
What if I want a refund?
This will be decided on a case-by case basis, depending on how much I've done on your picture, and the reason for the refund - but know that if it's because you aren't happy, just let me know, and I'll try and fix the picture as best I can!
Okay, that's about all I can think of. Remember, good communication is key! The more you talk to me, the better I can match the picture to what you want.
That's about it for now. Please post any questions in the comments, or by notes if you feel privacy is necessary!
Take care ^^

A Delayed EF Journal!
Posted 9 years agoSo, as a State Of Events sort of thing...
On the 10th of August, a friend came around to stay for the week. On the 15th, a bunch of us go to Eurofurence. We come back on the 23rd, another friend stays over for a few days and I have to get a full picture, a coloured sketch and overlays done from nigh-on conception in three days - because on the 27th I join my family on a holiday to Stratford-Upon-Avon, which I didn't get back from until a couple of days ago.
So I'm not certain, but I think I might be a little bit socialised out and a little tired. Hence the lateness of this journal!
But enough about that. How was EF?
Well, in a word - fantastic.
This was my first EF, first con in three years, and first con out of the country. Also the first holiday where I was the one to book stuff, and geez if that wasn't a serious source of worry. Especially with the wonderful
karaway around ready to kick my ass if anything went wrong!
So as an overview, I jumped on the plane with
Karaway and
Six~~ and met up with
CursedArrow at the hotel. These were the guys I stuck with over the duration of the convention, though we hung out with a bunch of others. I first wanna thank them for their irreplacable companionship throughout the whole convention - it was great to be there with you guys :D
And the con. The con, man. It was glorious, and the atmosphere was what made it. I've been told that EF is like the Pleasure Cruise of conventions, and I half agree with it - because while 'Luxury' is certainly something that comes to mind, Cruises have always brought up images of calm relaxation. EF was the former, but certainly not the latter. Between the events (so many; I rarely had a free slot, and frequently had to cancel ones I liked just to go spend time in the Dealer's Den or just to eat), the whirlwind of new people, meetups, fursuiters, parades, parties, impromptu dances... the dances... I mean wow. There's a reason they tell you to follow the 6-2-1 rule*, and I rather guiltily admit that I did not always follow this exactly (mostly on the six, and occaisionally on the two) - but that's just because there was so much to do, you just don't understand! Either way, I'll list some of my absolute favourite events here:
First off, nice and early in the convention, was the Let's Do Smut Right panel by
BRN.Quil, a hilarious look at porn stories by a fantastic writer and advice for the future (which was followed up with a delightful Italian meal with one fantastic other person who went to the panel, his delightful friend, Cursed and BRN himself). It was incredibly funny and entertaining, and certainly ranks in my top three events.
Another of my top three events was Improv-Fur-Sation by Tazel (with support from Uncle Kage). Likewise hilarious, upbeat and a great deal of fun, only slightly marred by my losing of my laptop charger halfway through and having to go apologetically beg it back from ConOp's Lost and Found box. Oops. Either way, a lovely show and one I certainly hope to go to again!
The last of my top three events has to be a little mainstream, but you can't miss out Uncle Kage's Storyhour with accompaniment by Fox Amoore, which had me (and the rest of the crowd, of course) in uproarious laughter the entire time. You bring such joy to so many, Kage; Don't stop being absolutely fantastic.
While we're on the big events; when I went to the dances at ConFuzzled so many years ago, we were in some podunk little octagonal room at the side of the hotel in Hinckley. It was a lovely room, and big enough I thought; maybe a little cramped. Here? The dances were in the main hall. I wondered how they thought we'd fill the place, but good god we did, and it was fantastic. Good music and great atmosphere... but that's only half the memory. The other half is when I saw this on one of the big screens flanking the stage. The picture shown is one I sent in for use in the conbook, and while it didn't make the cut (no sadness at this, honestly, the conbook art was bloody glorious), seeing it up there in the dance was an overwhelming experience (Karaway and Six can both attest to this point - ask them for my outward reaction). A huge thank you to the staff members who thought it good enough to include!
And from the big dance to just outside it - known amongst the four of us as the Kalte Muschi bar, many fine evenings were had there either drawing, chatting, listening to/singing along with the Kareoke, and drinking the Kalte Muschis that we named the bar after (the recipe, by the way, is a 1:1 ratio of good red wine and Coka Cola, served cold. Sounds awful, tastes suprisingly good, and was far cheaper and classier than water). By the way, for those that know or can go work out the drink's translation into English... there's a fun story that Uncle Kage has. Go and ask him sometime...
I could talk about so many more events, but I want to keep this at lesat a reasonable length, so lastly I'll talk about the one event that springs to mind whenever someone says EF to me now. The Sunday was the rest day of the convention; the Closing Ceremony had come and gone along with Pawpets and the Big Blue Dance, Dead Dog was on the horizon, and the Painted Dog charity table was all but finished - but for one last day, they had an open table, and allowed artists to come and do some last-minute pictures for charity. I managed to snag power and a place at the table, got there at 4pm... was dragged away to a forced 'You-need-to-eat' dinner by Six at about 10pm... and finally called it a day at half past midnight when they told us they were finally wrapping up, three and a half hours past the initial ending time for the event. Eight hours of drawing for furries from all around the world, of all different species and interests, and my god - it was bloody amazing. I met so many wonderful folks, had such lovely conversations, made a bunch of money for the Painted Dog Conservation, and even managed an entire transaction in a mix of English and German! It was one of the most significant events of the entire convention for me and gave me no end of joy. Thank you so very much to everyone who joined in with the event, be it giving money, drawing or just sitting at the table and being entertaining. Side shoutout here to Karaway, by the way, who was in fursuit for four hours waving a sign around for the event and paid the price for it later. Well, bunnies and their stamina, y'know? Anyway, final thanks to the organisers - with your support of pretzels and water and good wishes, you were great. Thank you.
Alright, that's about all I can say, really. Last few reports in short...
1) The hotel staff were excellent, especially those at the bar near the open stage, who always wore a smile and were not afraid to joke around and serve far too many Kalte Muschis. Thank you so much!
2) The Dealers Den was half the size of my street and filled with so much artwork and creativity that my inner Dark Violet almost flatlined from the overload. I went three times for an hour each and still didn't see everything - from AlectorFencer to Vinaru to Rat In A Cup, you were all amazing and I can't wait to get some of that art up on my wall!
3) The Marin Restauant further along the canal was the best damn restaurant in Berlin, as voted by the entire party. You guys rocked.
4) The Bratwurst sellers in Alexandrplatz show amazing strength to carry portable grills, standing up, for who knows how long. Also, damn good Bratwursts.
5) Germany has a really open policy regarding adult advertising. This pleases me on a spiritual level.
Alas... every convention has a downside. This does not please me, but I must report that Germany, which is so good in so many areas, does not know how to make a proper cup of tea. I will not go into it now, but it is not pretty, and those among you who are pregnant or of a nervous british disposition are warned to steer clear of the of the details.
But aside from that... minor... hiccup... the convention was a blast, I enjoyed every last moment, and I'd like to thank all the staff for their huge efforts in making it a roaring success. All that remains now is for me to say... I can't wait for next year. Yep, I'm heading back for certain.
Bring on Ancient Egypt.**
I first wanna thank them for their irreplacable companionship throughout the whole convention - it was great to be there with you guys :DAnd the con.
It was incredibly funny and entertaining, and certainly ranks in my top three events.Another of my top three events was Improv-Fur-Sation by Tazel (with support from Uncle Kage).
*The 6-2-1 rule for convention-goers is that every day you should have six hours of sleep, two meals, and one shower. This is different to the 6-2-1 rule for convention staff, which is six cans of monster, two hours of sleep and one hastily-eaten snack.
**Anyone want to join me in some Stargate cosplay?Off to EF~!

Y'know what's weird?
Posted 9 years agoThat today I cleaned my house for when my friend comes around tomorrow, but part of me doesn't want to mention to him that I cleaned because I want to make it seem like the house is always like this, despite knowing that he knows it's not always like this. Thus, I keep up this pointless, unspoken charade that my parents and the parents of my friends have drilled into us throughout our childhood, and though I am aware of it, I still do it.
Being an adult is weird.
Being an adult is weird.

The Great War of Plaisir - .doc files
Posted 9 years agoHeyo!
So I've had the Great War download links as .odt files, but apparently that filetype isn't as universal as I'd hoped. Oh well! Silly me. This is kinda important, seeing as the stories are too long for FA description limits!
Anyway! To help, I added .doc links at the beginning (and sometimes end) of the chapters, which should be more universal. I believe that covers all computers and most phones, anyway. If anyone still wants to read but can't, drop me a message and we'll work out whatever niche filetype is acceptable.
Have fun~!

The Great War of Plaisir - Thanks, Thoughts and Trivia
Posted 9 years agoThis journal contains discussion about The Great War of Plaisir. You can find the series below!
Prologue
Act 1
Act 2
Act 3 + Epilogue
So now that the war is completed, I feel like now is a good time to have a good talk about it and give some info!
I don't recall where the idea came from, but I do remember it festering very quickly... which then evolved into me drawing up barricades on a map of Plaisir. And then imagining scenes and characters and...
Okay, well after I'd started looking at my nerf gun collection and assigning guns to characters, I decided that yes. Yes, this was a thing, and it had to happen. Those that know me will realise that I am rather a fan of nerf guns, for both their aesthetics and just how god damned fun they can be. Everything from nerf wars to flourishing to shooting my housemates in revenge for bad puns. Also I have about twenty five of them now... nerf guns, not housemates, that is. I have a problem. Well, I have many problems, and this is clearly one of them.
Anyway, this was an absolute delight to do. From planning it out to writing it up, I was smirking and plotting this for weeks. I forgot how much fun one could have with a villain character, too. And Firenze and his soapbox at the end... hah. I rarely go so over the top at Plaisir when it comes to silliness like this, and by god it was great.
Only issue now is trying to figure out what to do next. Oh dear. Well, I'm sure something will come up :P
Right! Now onto fun stuff about the series:
Plans for the series: https://docs.google.com/document/d/.....it?usp=sharing
Contains a few changed premises! This is also how I first start stories, planning like this. Hope you find it interesting :3
Oh, by the by, talking about assigning guns:
Ceylon: Slingshot
October: Demolisher
Chai: Havok, Hammershot
Neon: Rayven x2, Spectre
Petier: Longstrike + 'Extras'
Quippie: Hammershot x2
Sam: Cycloneshock
Nikki: Centurion
Rain Flower: Rhinofire
And finally, the map in the war room:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/j809h25im.....20Map.png?dl=0
...oh yes. Plaisir has a map now. You might find that interesting~
Extra Finally:
I'd like to give a huge thanks to
OctoberFlixard,
Coldstone,
HatakeMikoto,
Lyzerof and
Wrincewind for being both beta readers, proofers, general supporters to the cause and such damn awesome creators of Plaisir content. There's a reason that almost all of them had characters here, and not just because that would happen - but because in my own way, I wanted to say thank you for all they've done!
Do be sure to check out their work - all have done Plaisir stories of their own, and you should go check them out!
