Help
General | Posted 13 years agoI haven't written anything in ages, and I've been trying to get back into it for a while. The problem is that I simply cannot come up with anything. My imagination seems to be on holiday at the moment.
So, can I ask you guys to chuck some ideas at me? A couple of words, a sketch, even a concept. Give me a story and ask me to write a sequel. Pretty much anything to help get me back in to writing. I'd really appreciate it.

A tentative question
General | Posted 13 years agoDoes anyone here have any advice for offering writing commissions? I don;t want to offer these just yet, but I've been thinking about offering them some time in the future, and I'd like to get some advice now.
My big question is this: How much of the plot do I control, and how much do I leave up to the commissioner? If I keep to much control, then I run the risk of the story not being how the commissioner wanted it. If I give too much to the commissioner, than they'd be writing the story themselves, and I'd be charging money for doing nothing.
So yeah, just a tentative journal post for the hell of it.

Know what I'm talking about?/Update on writings
General | Posted 13 years agoHave you ever started a story, with no idea how it's going to end? Has the story ever written itself. When I wrote the Lucy's Soldiers, I never intended it to be a series. The allusion to a changed life at the end was simply a device to end the story. In fact, the story as a whole was an experiment, practice in first person and "direct" narrative. When I first posted it though (over on furstralia.com), people suggested it would make a good series. So I continued, with no idea of the direction I wanted to take the story.
I started my sequel with one story, then scratched it in favour of another. Now, I've finally decided on a sequel to Lucy's soldiers, one which references two other stories in the Empire Wars universe. Stories that I had not planned on writing, with characters I had not thought about, when I began the task of writing a sequel. This has become something bigger than I expected, without me even noticing.
Hopefully this long winded ramble will explain why I have not posted in so long. There's another story about Raven that I hope will be posted soon. I'll be experimenting with this one, so hopefully it turns out alright. I'm also thinking about possibly introducing a news article style storyline to cover key events in the Empire.
Finally, I'm tired of my current title for this series. If anyone knows of an artist who can draw weapons and armour well, and isn't too expensive, let me know.

Dresk/Empire Wars Background
General | Posted 13 years agoI'm creating this journal as a reference for the Dresk/Empire Wars series.
Firstly, you've probably noted the change of name in the series. I've decided to go with calling it the the Empire Wars, for two reasons. Firstly, with the involvement of the Krel Republic it is no longer simply a war against the Dresk, and secondly, the narrator of Lucy's soldiers calls the war that in the very first paragraph ever written in this series.
I've rearranged the stories into different story "arcs". So now they should be easier to understand in context, rather than being a random collection of loosely connected stories. Each story now has a code after the title, to help you identify the arc to which it belongs. They look something like this "[Empire Wars - BD#1]"
Arcs currently in use
BD - Stands for "Black Devils". This arc follows the Black Devils squadron through the first person narrative of Cameron Naylor.
IE- Important Events. These stories narrate the historically important events that shape the war as it unfolds.
RV- The initials of Star Corps finest female pilot, Raven Vettel
Species List
The Empire
Pantheroid - Any forms of the four big cats
Felisian - A seperate species from Pantheroids, Felisians resemble domestic cats
Feliform - Any form of the Herpestidae (Mongoose, meerkat) or otter
Torosian - Bovines
Canids - Canines, usually dogs or wolves
Ursine - Bears
Dresk Empire
Saurians - Lizards
Krel Republic
Cephaloids - Octopus; squid
Krel (as a species) - Shrimp

Update: planned writings
General | Posted 13 years agoDue to being busy with other projects, I will only be concentrating on the Dresk War series for a while. Other series I've been writing (Hall of Stories, 14 Tails), will be suspended until further notice.
I'll be uploading a prequel to the Dresk war series, and possibly beginning to arrange them in some sort of order. The problem is that they're not connected in anyway, other than being set in the same conflict.

Need help for a name and/or species
General | Posted 13 years agoThis is a rather odd request, but hey, don't ask, don't get.
I am in the planning stage for a new sci-fi story, and I need help with the species of my last main character. All the others have just come to me, but this one is being elusive. Nothing just seems to fit. Anyway, here are the details:
The current character list is a female rhino, female otter, male lion, female pig.
The character is male, and I'd like his name to begin with T (Why is a secret!). I was thinking Tom, but it just doesn't feel right.
If you can help with suggesting a name, I'd appreciate it. But more important, I feel, is discovering a species. Pretty much anything other than insects or fish/cetaceans will be considered.
Please help me out guys...there might even be a prize in it for you!

New writings!!
General | Posted 14 years agoWell, I have a few new watchers (thank you to you all, by the way!) since I've been gone, so I thought it only fair to give you guys something. So, I have a new story up! It's something I started for a Thursday prompt ages ago, and kind of grew from there. What's more, it's only the first chapter, so plenty more to come!
What's more, over the next few weeks, I plan to upload a series of 14 short fantasy stories, so keep an eye out for them. Plenty of goodies there for you to enjoy, so have fun!

General | Posted 14 years agoI will be leaving this site for a time, while I try to get some real life sorted. I may be on from time to time to check on what my watches are doing, but I will not be posting anything.
I don't know how long I will be gone, but good-bye.
