Progress Update, and other assorted things...

Mainly posting to update my list of works in progress, but I thought I might as well mention some other things while I'm at it.
To begin with, I'm likely going to make little use of my account at y!gallery, in the future. That's mainly for two reasons: 1. The site is pretty much dead, these days. 2. It's also acting very funky for me.
As a result, I will be posting more of my non-anthro work to this site instead, and use it as my primary gallery, along with my account at dA. Judging from the feedback I received on my human-themed work so far, I hope that isn't a bad thing.
( I'm also seriously considering finding a replacement/ addition for my dA account - Because, while dA is a great place to host your various image files... It's not so good when you actually expect people to give you feedback, or at least -look- at your stuff. XD
I'll probably join a more "serious" CG artist site. Still looking around, though. I'll post a link here, if I create a new account elsewhere, for those interested. )
---
That said, here's something else I wanted to mention, since people keep asking: "What does it take for you to colour one of my linearts/ do an art trade?"
a) You are already a friend of mine/ we know each other at least a little.
b) You posess some serious lineart skills and/ or decent amounts of art experience in general.
c) You draw/ would draw content that really~ interests me.
... if you meet at least one, better yet all, of the above requirements, I might just be interested. :P
I'm sorry, but it takes time to create a decent work of art, so I have to limit it to projects that have the most potential and/ or seem the most fun to do.
Also, if you're considering to ask me about any kind of collaboration or art trade, please check my journal and list of WIPs first. If I'm already buried in art projects, like now, chances are I will have to turn down your offer - At least until I complete some other pictures first.
---
Before I end this post, I'd like to express my gratitude to the people that have been watching me for a while now, and continually provide me with feedback and suggestions on my work. I'd also like to welcome everyone that only recently started watching my account here - Thanks, and I hope you'll enjoy my future uploads!
And that was that.

Hello there, FA...
Posted 19 years agoBeen a while since my last journal update, so I thought I'd let you folks now what I've been up to. Due to various problems and distractions, the year didn't start off as productive for me as I would have liked. One of the reasons is that openCanvas decided to act really screwy all of a sudden. So I had to find a replacement, and after some searching and experimenting eventually settled for Painter. It's a very old and limited version, and I'm still learning how to use it - Yet, in some ways it makes me wonder why I ever used openCanvas. The way the program simulates textures and colour blending - it's magic. :) I will toy around with it for a while longer, but somewhere along the road I'll probably get me a copy of a more recent version.
Anyway, that and other things made it difficult to complete much art, so now I'm trying to catch up. I'd like to emphasize that I haven't forgotten about any trade or request pictures I still owe to people. I may be slow, but if I promised you a picture then you will sooner or later receive it. :P
While I'm at it, I'd like to thank my co-artists and fans of my work for the continued support. I seem to receive more feedback here ( and almost exclusively positive, at that ) than at any other art site, even when I post "off-topic" works, and I appreciate it. Due to that, and because I've been posting mainly human-themed work lately, I've actually been considering to do an anthro themed "gift pic", to show my gratitude. Not sure yet, what exactly, although I have a few ideas. Feel free to comment on this journal, to let me know what you'd like to see. Please keep in mind that this is meant as a general gift, though, so please don't ask me to draw your personal character for you, or the like - I'm just looking for general suggestions. :P Species, themes, basic ideas, that kind of thing. Fanart would be all right, too, if enough people would like to see art based on a certain character or series. Thanks!

Progress Update - With a side-dish of some art tips...
Posted 19 years agoHere's a little report on what I've been up to, art-wise...
That painting that I submitted recently, "Warrior Pride", had been my main focus for a while - So, with that one done, I can finally resume work on any requests, collabs, art trades and the like, that have been collecting dust, and hopefully get most of those done soon. Other than that I'm not currently working on anything major.
The last few days or so I had a little art block and didn't get much done. Eventually I ended up grabbing a pencil and some sheets of paper - After about two years of working exclusively with Digital media. Not surprisingly, it took me a few attempts to get back into it, ( I'm still looking for the "undo" option, whenever I make a mistake :D ) but I'm having fun with it. Some of my future lineart will most likely be done traditionally. And who knows, I may even succeed in creating some fully traditonal work, if I keep at it.
Now, as for the second part of this journal - Since people keep asking me for tips, I decided to write down some of my thoughts on colouring/ painting. I'm trying to keep these fairly simple and general, so they should be useful to most artists, regardless of style or media/ software. There goes:
-Before you can do decent colouring, you need to understand how lighting works and how colours affect one another - If you're not sure how something should look, observe your surroundings, or search for reference pictures with similar lighting/ colours.
-Try to use only two or three major colours for your pictures - Beginners often make the mistake to go wild and turn their pictures into a rainbow, but the more colours you use, the more difficult it will be to balance them out.
-Definitely invest some time and thought into planning the colouring of your picture - Ideally, before the lineart is even completed. Look at some photographs or art for inspiration, think about the mood you want to create etc.
-When you start colouring, you may want to create a little palette, with all the major tones you're going to use for the picture. That way you can see how they look next to each other, and adjust them if necessary.
You could also take this a step further and create a "thumbnail" of your drawing - either by resizing, or by redrawing a small version of your picture, if you're working paper. Roughly fill it in with colour; if necessary, do several, until you come up with a version you like - Then use it as a reference for the big picture.
-At the beginning of the colouring/ painting process, make sure you -zoom out- of your picture. You want to be able to see the entire painting on your screen. That way it is much easier to spot any major lighting and composition flaws, etc. If you zoom in too early, you will likely get lost in details and miss those major problems. Gradually zoom in, as you refine the picture.
That's all for now. I might create a proper step-by-step tutorial one day, but until then I'll try to post some more tips here at my Journal. Hope these are useful to some of you. And feel free to share your own thoughts on the subject.

Progress Update...
Posted 19 years agoHey there, thought I should let you folks know what I've been up to. For some reason, I decided to accept half a dozen art trades at once, in addition to other works of my own, so progress has slowed down somewhat, since I'm an easily confused person. There's also those two remaining headshots - I haven't forgotten about those.
It might take a while but I shall eventually get all of it done. Meanwhile, have a little more patience with me...

How do you do it... ?
Posted 19 years agoAll right, so I just realized something: I can't seem to draw convincing female "furries". Now, I always thought that fur, scales, horns, claws and the like seem to work better on male characters, but I've seen some nice female anthros on here, so... how do you make it work for you?
I guess it's mainly just practice... By now I can draw fairly decent looking human females, though.
Well, if I can't figure it out, I guess I could always draw human females having some fun with male anthros... :D

Free Head Shots - A winner is you!
Posted 19 years agoFree Head Shots
Get shot in the head! For free!

I don't normally do chainletters and the like, but I thought this one could be fun...
All right, the first five people to respond to this journal will receive a free portrait-type doodle from me, of any of your original characters.
Only rule: You have to post this at your own journal, and do the same for the first five people who respond to your post.
Let's see how this turns out...
Edit: Looks like we have five lucky winners! Damn, that was quick. Thanks for participating! Oh, and I'll do a sixth one, because Neon_Grizzly was just a minute too late, and I'm nice like that. :P

5.CaptainGerBear
6.Neon_Grizzly
I'll draw them in this order, and I'll contact each of you, as soon as I start work on your pic.
~Edit August 07th 2006:
Just wanted to let people know that I havent forgotten about those headshot requests. I wanted to finish a few other works first, but I'll make those headshots my priority now. Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger...
Posted 19 years agoI discovered the secret to being more productive! You just need to stop sleeping. I wonder why I never thought of that before.
I'm currently working on collabs with Bagheera, Azaghal, Aaron, and an art trade/ collab with CaptainGerBear. Plus some originals and fanart of my own, mostly non-anthro, but I might post them here anyway.
And before I forget, could you people stop bombarding me with +fav and +watch messages? You're making me feel popular or something. Sick. D:

Status update, plus a poll of sorts...
Posted 19 years agoI've done something similar when I joined y!hosting: Since there's many new people watching me, I'm curious what your preferences in art are. Do you have any preferred themes, species etc... The results may influence the content of my future uploads here.
Also, how do you people feel about off-topic posts, such as human art? Personally I do enjoy variety in art, so I appreciate the rather loose content restrictions of this site. I do however realize that the primary focus of the site is anthro art, so that's what the majority of my submissions here are going to be.
For those interested in my other works, feel free to check out my accounts at deviantArt and y!hosting.
For a while, most of my upcoming works for this site are going to be collabs with other artists, aside from one original I'm currently working on.
All right, that's all I wanted to say for now. See you around!

My impressions of FA so far...
Posted 19 years agoFirst of all, thanks for the welcome and the positive feedback, from old friends, as well as potential new ones alike.
This place ain't so bad, judging from my experiences so far. I've already discovered quite a few amazing artists I hadn't known before. And the site itself also works pretty well, although I still have to figure out some things.
I do have one question about the ratings for submissions. What is the difference between "Mature" and "Adult"? Is there some official guideline on the use of the ratings?
Anyhow, for now I've posted all of my old art that still met my current quality standards. My apologies to those who have already seen those pictures elsewhere. As I mentioned in my last journal, I should have some new art ready soon.
And that's it for now. Thanks for reading, see you around!

This place ain't so bad, judging from my experiences so far. I've already discovered quite a few amazing artists I hadn't known before. And the site itself also works pretty well, although I still have to figure out some things.

Hey thar...
Posted 19 years agoI'm just another of those artists who came here looking for a place to post their anthro art, because a certain website has no love for em furries anymore. D:
So far so good. I'll give this place a closer look later. If I like it around here, it might actually motivate me to draw more anthro art again. In any case, I'll see if I can find some older stuff, that I still consider worth posting.
And while I'm at it, Hi to anyone who might know me from ... elsewhere. :P
That's it for now, see you around!
Edit: I've added some older artwork of mine. Not much, but I haven't been doing a lot of anthro art recently, and those were the only ones I still liked. I may or may not add some collabs I've done with other artists, if they don't mind. Anyway, I should have at least one new pic completed soon. I've also been hunting for friends and artists that I know from other places, and I've been playing around with the various features/ tools and such... Like I said, so far so good. One question, I can't seem to add links to my mainpage. What's up with that? D:
