where the seagulls with broken wings soar.
Bottles sometimes wash up there,
but there's pretty shells and critter crawlers too.
Standing on the shoreline, looking out,
you can hear the low blow of the far off fog horns.
But you can't see the boats.
The sky, forever overcast,
casts a dim glow on the ground beneath it.
It's like being in a dome
where rain is always near
but never comes.
An old carousel sits on the pier
frozen in time,
rusted and abandoned.
I rode it once when I was a kid.
Yeah...not sure what to call this or if it's even finished but I'm gonna sleep on it and come back to this later maybe.

Tyco was put to sleep yesterday
General | Posted 11 years agoAfter a short battle with cancer, my pup was put to sleep yesterday morning. He had a wonderful life of almost 8 years and spent every day to the fullest. I'm gonna miss him so much. :'(
Kinda sucks how after his recent surgery, he was estimated to have at least 2 months left, but only made it 19 days. Nevertheless, I'm glad I got to see him twice those last few days. He was happy even at the end. :) Now he's chasin squirrels and chewin bones in doggy heaven~ Love you Tyco <3

Where can I find reliable research about the Furry fandom?
General | Posted 11 years agoI'm writing a 15-20 page paper about the Furry fandom (holy crap what am I getting myself into...?) and I'm looking for some surveys/research taken about the fandom.
Stuff like, the percentage of furries that are in it for porn vs those who aren't, reasons why people are in the fandom, percentage of LGBT members in it, etc.
Anyone know of any surveys/research articles covering stuff like that?
I vaguely recall seeing something about a survey taken a year ago about this sort of stuff and can't for the life of me remember where it was. [edit] oh! I think it might have been on http://furrypoll.com/

The Wind Rises

As expected of any movie written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, it was a true work of art that easily would have won the Oscar over Frozen if it has been released in America earlier. I definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet. It was amazing, quite possibly the greatest animated movie I've ever seen.

Self Improvement
General | Posted 12 years agoLately, I've been giving some thought to some of my "negative" qualities. But not in a depressed sort of way. I've just been thinking about some things about myself I'd like to work on. =3 Sort of like a New Year's resolution, except something I actually try to do. I figured a good start would be to write them all down as they come to me, and of course, what better place to do that than the internet, where everyone can judge you anonymously, right?...right? ._.
Anyway, I'll list some stuff below that I'd like to work on for my own self-improvement (adding more as I think of them). If anyone has some advice that they think would help, or just their thoughts on some of the stuff I list, by all means, POST AWAY! :D Here goes~
1. Interrupting
I feel like I interrupt people a lot. Usually, I'm completely oblivious to it until the moment I interrupt someone, but by then it's too late and the damage has been done. This might have to do with how I was picked on as a kid for always being the odd-ball, so people never wanted to listen to any of my input. I think maybe my talking over people was a defense mechanism I developed to deal with that, but now that I'm not that odd-ball kid anymore (still odd, just not a kid xD), people do listen to what I have to say, yet the defense mechanism remains. I wanna try to be a more socially patient person and give other people their time to speak.
2. Procrastinating
I'm the type of person who always holds off on doing things till the very last second. Laundry, homework, etc. But I always do great under pressure, so I haven't really tried to change this behavior. However, as I get further in life, it's beginning to dawn on me that I can't keep up this type of work ethic forever. Pulling all-nighters as frequently as I do just can't be healthy. x_x I want to try and develop healthier production habits, be it with my writing, my laundry, or anything else.
3. Self-Centered
This isn't something as heavily ingrained in me as my other traits; it's more of a recent thing I've noticed. I feel like lately, when I talk to people, I spend too much time talking about myself and not nearly enough time discussing what's going on with others. I'm not really sure why I've sensed this sudden self-centeredness from me as of late. Maybe I'm subconsciously overcompensating for something socially? I honestly don't know. Regardless, I want to make a conscious effort to pay more attention to others and spend less time blabbering about myself. =3
4. Remembering Names
I am the WORST person with names. Every time I meet new people, I can't for the life of me remember their names. Even classmates who I've had courses with during previous semesters, I draw a blank. Even though I apologize when I have to ask for someone's name multiple times, I always feel awful about it. I'm great with faces, but names, not so much. I want to try and develop a better memory for people's names. ESPECIALLY the people I see almost every day. x.x

So for my creative writing course, I had to write a sestina, which for those of you who don't know is a type of poem where you have 6 six-line stanzas and 1 three-line stanza at the end. There are also no length constrictions for the lines in stanzas. Sounds easy so far right? WELLLL you have to pick 6 words that you are forced to repeat (at least in sound or with words that look kind of similar, like Fur, For, and Fair) at the end of each line of each stanza. And you have to have a different order each time, like, say I end the 1st line of stanza one with "puppy." Then for Stanza two, All of the lines but line one can end in "puppy" or something similar. It's way more obnoxious then I'm making it sound probably. .-. Either way, it took me hours to do. x.x Guess I can sleep when I'm dead.
TL;DR It's like making up your own Sudoku game that you don't know the answers to, then trying to solve it upside down.

In other news...I have pokemon Y! :D (have had it since it came out but been too busy/lazy too put my stuff on here xD;;;)
I got hidden ability eevees comin out of my ass too. ._. Like damn, they're cute and all, but I could burn my supply of eevees as a renewable energy source. And I'd STILL have too many. Dx Better start releasing...

Update on story progress + quick Life update!
General | Posted 12 years agoIt's been a while since I posted an update on my story progress so I figured now would be a good time to do so!
(For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, please see this journal)
Lately, my progress has slowed down a bit now that my college classes have resumed, but I have been putting more time into developing my sketched out map of Impervia (which I'll probably post a pic of once it's complete). Again, I do apologize for taking so long with this, but good writing takes time! So please, bear with me.
I've also been working on the currency of Impervia (which will be called Gem) as well as its central religion, which will have to do heavily with astrology. I can't say too much about it since it's still a work in progress, but the sun and moon will be the 2 eyes of god (who I'm still thinking of a name for).
I've also made progress with the magical elements of the story. There are currently six elements: Fire, Water, Air, Earth, Celestial, and now Shadow! (
shinowolf helped me come up with the last one)
The elements grow stronger or weaker depending on environmental changes. Fire magic grows stronger when the climate is dry, and Water magic, in turn, grows stronger when the climate is wet.
Earth and Air magic are different in that they grow stronger or weaker depending on the amount of natural obstructions in the area. For example, in a wide open field where wind flows freely, Air magic has an advantage. Conversely, in a high-obstruction area like a dense forest, Earth magic is at its best.
The power of Celestial magic and Shadow magic, however, is dependent on the phases of the moon. Celestial magic, or "holy" magic is at it's peak when the moon is full. Shadow magic is a taboo form of celestial magic, which draws power from a lack of moonlight (New moon). Why is it taboo you ask? Well, remember that earlier I mentioned that the sun and moon are the two eyes of god. The only time this god rests is during a new moon, which is when it closes one of its "eyes." Being that celestial magic is a "holy" magic that draws from the strength of the moon, Shadow magic is therefore considered a "sin" since it is a form of celestial magic that abuses God's time of rest as the moon's light lessens.
I hope I wasn't too complicated there. ^^; I'll keep up my progress and let you all know how it's going every now and then! :)

I've decided to pursue a career as a college professor specializing in English. :) It makes a lot of sense for me, since while I do still hope to become a successful author, it is unlikely that I will be able to live off of my writing alone. =/ Teaching at the college level seems like a great steady-paying career for me that I would find rewarding, not because of the teaching, but because I'd be in a respectable position where I could actively pursue my interests as a writer. It's really quite refreshing to finally have my priorities in order at last. I feel like I now have a realistic goal that will provide me with a stable, and enjoyable future. :) Hurray for stability!

Quick update on story progress!
General | Posted 12 years agoAfter reading Kyell Gold's recent journal about characters (https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4937483/), I realized that mine definitely need some development.
So I've set a personal goal to write a long paragraph about one of them at least once daily until I'm satisfied that my characters are personal and in-depth enough to meet my own expectations. I probably won't post these paragraphs on here (at least not until after I start submitting chapters on here), but I just wanted to let you guys know that I am indeed actively making progress. :) By the time I've completed all the necessary preparations, I'm sure I'll be able to write a story that will leave a wonderful lasting impression on the readers.
I hope you guys will support me by reading it and giving me critique once I've started! ^^ With any luck, I'll be working on the prologue and chapter 1 within a month's time. (Hopefully)
So I've set a personal goal to write a long paragraph about one of them at least once daily until I'm satisfied that my characters are personal and in-depth enough to meet my own expectations. I probably won't post these paragraphs on here (at least not until after I start submitting chapters on here), but I just wanted to let you guys know that I am indeed actively making progress. :) By the time I've completed all the necessary preparations, I'm sure I'll be able to write a story that will leave a wonderful lasting impression on the readers.
I hope you guys will support me by reading it and giving me critique once I've started! ^^ With any luck, I'll be working on the prologue and chapter 1 within a month's time. (Hopefully)

The possible title (and currently the most likely title) is "The Prince's Quest."
The story takes place in a land called Impervia, named for its excellent terrain that makes it difficult for enemies to invade it.
The main character will be Prince Saffir Emros (Saf is his nickname), a golden lion with ocean blue eyes, as well as a water-magic user.
His best friend will be Rubo, a grey wolf with white-tipped ears and tail, who is a soldier trained in fire-magic.
The king is a golden lion with olive green eyes named King Tydus, the 13th king of Impervia, who is also a water-magic user like his son. (runs in the family?)
Currently, I can say for certain that the following magical elements will exist: Fire, Water, Lightning, and Celestial. I do plan on including Earth magic as well, but I may not include Air magic (what do you guys think?)
The "objects" I mentioned in my other journal that are required to properly control one's magic are going to be called Regulators, as they regulate the power of one's magic. (I was very intent on not using wands, as that concept seemed incredibly overused to me)
The plot of the story is that something sacred to Impervia is stolen from the palace (I've decided what it is now! But I won't reveal it just yet! ;3) and it is decided by King Tydus that although the risk may be great, he feels that his son, Saffir, is the ideal person to retrieve it. With the help of Rubo, it is up to Saffir to retrieve the stolen item, uncovering a grudge that dates back to the founding of his country. Suddenly, succeeding the throne has become far more complicated.

However, I've always been such a predominant fan of canines that my knowledge of felines just...isn't as good as I need it to be for this story.
So PLEASE! Tell me about lions! What are they like? What do they act like? How do they mate? What do they eat? ANYTHING AT ALL! Even if it sounds silly and unimportant, tell me anyway! I'd like to have as much knowledge about lions as I can before I begin writing. I'm already doing my own online research (google and wiki etc.) but I'd like some info from my fellow furs as well.

Story Idea
General | Posted 12 years agoWhen I joined FA, I knew that I'd eventually like to try my hand at writing some fiction. I already have some confidence in my writing ability, but I've yet to try writing any stories, much less furry ones. So I've been tossing around some story ideas in my head lately and I think I have something good! I'd love to hear what you guys think. I'm still working out a lot of the details but here's what I know so far:

Plot: The story will take place in a fictional kingdom ruled by KingTyphus Tydus(who will probably be a lion). Something will be stolen from the palace and it will be up to the Prince, the prince's friend (who will be a wolf as well as a soldier trained in fire magic), and possibly a few others to retrieve the stolen item.
There will be magic involved, stemming from elements such as water, wind, fire, and earth (No, I do not intend to rip off avatar), as well as other elements that will be less common, like lightning and celestial (celestial will refer to divine magic that has to do with stars)
Magic powers are gained through pacts with an element in the form of ceremonies, contact with the element, prayer, and other ways I'm still considering.
Only one element can be learned, but there may be slight exceptions to this.
In order to properly control magic, the user will require an object (can be almost anything, like a sword, necklace, stone, or sceptre, etc.) that is established during the user's pact with their element. The user is capable of using magic without their magical object, but it is considered dangerous because the magic could go out of control without it.
There will be gay romance involved! Most likely some XXX scenes thrown in to keep it spicy, but not so many that it becomes a porn story.

General | Posted 12 years agoI've been putting off trimming down my facial hair for a couple weeks and its been bugging me, but I've just been too lazy to do anything about it. :I It wasn't exactly a "beard" but it was long enough to bug me xD Now I got it down to a tiny bit longer than 5 o'clock shadow, just the way I like it. =3

My fortune cookies are weird...

I remember I used to get things like "You will have success in business" or something like that. Now I get really specific ones that are just plain wrong and weird. ._. Here's a few of them along with my initial reactions to them: (I swear I'm not making these up!)
1. "We get along well. :)"
Wtf you're a cookie! Who is this "WE?" The fortune cookie company? The cookie!? Well I don't think we get along that well since I just ate you and you tasted stale. <_<
2. "It's sunny today. :)"
*looks outside* It's raining and thundering you dumb fuck. =.=
3. "You will have a party. :)"
With WHO? All of my good friends live like 45 minutes away. Have your own damn party.
4. "A rolling stone collects no moss. :)"
Okay...? That's not really a fortune. ._.
