Ethics and Government
General | Posted 15 years agoApparently the following is satire. Original @ http://freedomainradio.com/BOARD/fo.....s/t/27323.aspx
Ethical propositions:
The initiation of violence is evil.
Therefore theft is evil.
Therefore assault is evil.
Therefore murder is evil.
Tribalism:
Under special sets of weird and often incoherent Circumstances, such as Religious Prescriptions, or on Holidays, or upon specific Birthdays, almost anyone might be exempted from ethics.
Theocracy:
The will of God as directed by His most Holy Books, and interpreted by His Ordained Agents on Earth shall be exempted from ethics.
Monarchy:
The will of the King and his Lords, as handed down through Inheritance, and backed by Divine Right, shall be exempted from ethics.
Fascism:
The will of [pick one: The Leader, The People, The Holy Book, The Flying Spaghetti Monster] shall pose as the entity in control, when it is actually Corporate Power and International Bankers pulling the strings and who are exempted from ethics via Legislative Creativity.
Despotism / Junta:
I have a really big gun, so I'm exempted from ethics. You have a problem with that, ***!?
Totalitarianism:
Ethics! Ethics? We don't got to show you no steenking ethics.
Communism:
The will of the Proletariat shall be exempted from ethics.
Socialism:
The will of the Central Planning Committee as informed by the Best Minds of Society, who are chosen by the Central Planning Committee, shall be exempted from ethics.
Social Democracy:
The will of the 23 Bureaus of Public Affairs as directed by The People by Popular Vote after due consideration of The Evidence as presented by The Media shall be exempted from ethics.
Republic:
The will of The People, as directed by a combination of Popular Referendum and Legislative Action, and checked by the powers of Judicial Oversight for accordance with the Constitution, shall be exempted from ethics.
Collectivist Anarchism:
The will of the Collective shall be exempted from ethics.
Communist Anarchism / Anarcho-Syndicalism:
The will of your Self-Governing Entity as decided by Popular Vote shall be exempted from ethics, but only within your Self-Governing Entity, unless your Self-Governing Entity requires resources from another Self-Governing Entity, in which case your Self-Governing Entity may also exempt itself from ethics in transactions with other Self-Governing Entity, but not their individual members.
Voluntaryism / Agorism / Libertarianism / Market Anarchism / Anarcho-Capitalism:
Only those persons or entities who are presently being ethically violated shall be exempted from ethics, and only to defend themselves against said violation.
Anarcho-Pacifism:
No person or entity shall ever be exempted from ethics.
Egoist Anarchism / Egoism / Chaos:
Fuck ethics, I'll do whatever I can get away with.

Web comic: Mimi and Eunice
General | Posted 15 years agoJust found this awesome comic on the Internet called "Mimi and Eunice." It deals with a wide range of things, some serious, others not so much. One thing I find attractive about the comic is that it available under a Creative Commons license, which means anyone can copy and share at will. At any rate, check it out @ http://ninapaley.com/mimiandeunice/
A few things...
General | Posted 15 years agoGot a blog post about Greazefest and the City Walk my boyfriend and I did before he went back to Mexico. Read it here: http://bit.ly/aZmMZR
I'm going to be busy over the next few weeks, again, this time work/uni related, so no new stories will be written in that time.
To fill that time, might I suggest a few things that may help you pass the time without getting bored.
First thing is Discworld by Terry Pratchett. Heard of it? It was the big thing before Harry Potter came along, which has of course been supplanted by Twilight (shudder). Anyway, check out two animated series called Soul Music ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soul_M.....ic_(TV_series) ) and Wyrd Sisters ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wyrd_S.....rs_(TV_series) ). I managed to find the soundtrack from Soul Music, and it's pretty good.
Favourite song from Soul Music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOjQkIb162g
Another thing, anime this time, is the film called Interstella 5555 by Daft Punk. My boyfriend suggested it to me, we watched it, and I must say it was worth it. No dialogue, just music and anime telling a story. Find out about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inters.....et_5tar_5ystem
Finally, for those more inclined to playing games, I found one recently that I just can't stop playing (apart from WoW that is, XP). It's called Osmos. I bought this game for my iPhone a few days ago, and so far I have been impressed. Gameplay is simple, the graphics are elegant, and the ambient music gives the game a sense of tranquility. I've spent a bit of time playing around with the game so far. I thought that it was worth sharing, if you are interested you can check it out here: http://www.hemispheregames.com/osmos/ It's available on Windows, Mac, and Linux, as well as the iPhone and iPad.

The [somewhat] controversial survey
General | Posted 15 years ago[01] Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?
Controversial to whom exactly?
[02] Would you do meth if it was legalized?
Nope. I don't even drink or smoke tobacco.
[03] Abortion: for or against it?
Freedom of choice. Leave people alone so they can make up their own minds.
[04] Do you think a country would fail with a female president?
What is a country but an arbitrary shape drawn on a map? Less people running around in costumes presuming they can create order by waving guns around the better.
[05] Do you believe in the death penalty?
No. I accept the axiom of self-ownership (I own myself, no one else can own me) and I accept the Non-Aggression Principle (NAP) as objective morality. The death penalty is nothing more or less than murder, an immoral act.
[06] Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
No. I think that laws such as those prohibiting what people can put into their bodies (see self-ownership) need to be done away with. No need to create more problems with more laws.
[07] Are you for or against premarital sex?
People are free to do what they want with their bodies (see self-ownership).
[08] Do you believe in God?
No. I accept the fact that reality has so far provided no proof that a god or god-like being exists. I also recognise that the idea of god fails to pass the test of logic.
[09] Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
No. I think that there is nothing wrong with same sex relationships (I myself am in one at the moment), however I do not think there is any need to create new laws. It is a contract, pure and simple. Governments need to get out our personal lives.
[10] Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?
There is nothing immoral about immigration. Laws against immigration are based on fear, anger, and prejudice. Nothing rational about them. From what I know about history, once upon a time passports did not exist, and people could cross borders freely. Immigration laws as they exist today are a recent phenomenon.
[11] A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?
How she was able to give birth to a baby and either he or her baby surviving is very much against the odds. Such niche cases are annoying at best when talking about morality. As for keeping it, well, I'm not sure when children are the property of their parents, but I am fairly certain that the only time they can be claimed as such is when they are still inside their mother (hence how abortion can be considered moral). If she is capable of taking care of the baby, and she chose to have the baby of her own free will, I see no reason why she could not raise the child herself. But in all honesty, the chances of it happening exactly like that are slim to none.
[12] Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?
In Australia it is already 18. I think there shouldn't be a drinking age. It should be up to the people who sell it and the parents who supply it to their children. The standards of the community will decide, and those businesses that don't cater to those standards will find themselves either changing their ways or losing customers very quickly. There is nothing moral about imposing an arbitrary standard on everyone, especially when the gun is used when anyone is found in non-compliance to the edict.
[13] Should the war in Iraq be called off?
All wars are immoral, as they are simply aggression and retribution.
[14] Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?
No. Such laws need to go. If people are in such a state that they are unable to take their own lives, it is reasonable to ask someone else to do the deed for them. Contracts between freely consenting parties are more than enough to ensure that no one is found to have done something wrong.
[15] Do you believe in spanking your children?
Children are self-owners the moment they are disconnected physically from their mother. As such, any violence no matter how small is a violation of their self-ownership (violence been a claim of ownership over another person, ie. slavery) and the NAP. There is also the fact that child abuse will usually result in adults who are maladjusted, possibly psychologically scarred, and more likely to engage in self-destructive behaviour.
[16] Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
Sure I would. The fact that it is simply private property and it is the right of every property owner to use and dispose of their property in any way they choose just makes the deal sweeter. Honestly, why would anyone bother paying me a million dollars to burn a piece of cloth?
[17] Who do you think would have made a better president? McCain or Obama?
Neither. Don't need or want a ruler telling me what to do.
[18] Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
No, why would I be? This is the Internet, it's not like anyone here can beat me up or something. Not sure why anyone would want to considering the answers I've given.

Be Kind To Those Less Fortunate
General | Posted 15 years agoJust wanted to share this with anyone who is interested. I recently started a new website and I posted my stories up there, including my most popular fanfic, Be Kind To Those Less Fortunate. I decided to pick a beautiful theme to showcase it, and you can follow the links below to check it out. I also reformatted the ebook to bring it line with the new style. The print copy remains the same however. I also uploaded the art that people created to tie in with the story, so it is all there. Enjoy!

FreedomU
General | Posted 15 years agoFor the last week I have been converting a pile of pages into a coherent learning experience for consumption on this site. Finally I have completed the task. I have called the learning experience FreedomU, short for Freedom University. It is a collection of units, sixteen in total, that deal with the subject of freedom. It starts with human nature, and moves from there, touching on topics such as government, education, health care, economics, money, markets, family, war, and so on.
If you are interested in diving into this learning experience I suggest that you start with the beginning and work your way through the numbered units in order. That way you will better grasp the logic and arguments contained within. I hope that it is useful for you, and the experience changes the way you think about the topics covered. If you take up the challenge, good luck, and thank you for taking the time to engage yourself in this important area of human life: Freedom.

A statist and an anarchist fall down a well...
General | Posted 15 years agoA statist and an Anarchist were walking one day when the ground suddenly gave way and they found themselves falling down a well.
Upon regaining consciousness the Statist looks around.
"My god, this Well is fantastic. Look, we are provided all the food and water we need," he exclaims, pointing at a mass of crawling insects and a mud filled puddle. "We are protected from the weather and the constant darkness means we'll never get skin cancer, this is paradise!
"What the hell is wrong with you" says the Anarchist. "There is a ladder right over there, we can just climb out of this dank rotting hole and be free."
"Oh no, we can't do that," says the Statist.
To which the Anarchist replies, "Why not?"
"Well," says the Statist. "We might not get out."
--
Send this to anyone you know who has ever tried to debate anarchism, they might laugh.
Send this to anyone you know who defends statism, they might think.

Book now in print
General | Posted 15 years agoAt long last, anyone who has an interest in getting a print copy of my story "Be Kind To Those Less Fortunate" can now get one from http://bit.ly/bHWg0Y at the cost of printing. Let me make it clear that I am not making a profit from this, as I am well aware of the implications of people trying to make money off of fanart/fiction. All you are doing here is printing a copy with a nice cover to go with it. I have also updated the free ebook, which is exactly the same story as that in the book, only for your computer screen instead. Get the latest version from http://bit.ly/crKmTx .
