Casting Call Quiz!
General | Posted 14 years agoI've been playing around with ideas the last few days, drawing up characters, and I just might wind up starting something pokemon-related. However, I still need a few more characters, some important, some just around-town folks. So! What I'd like to hear from you folks is: What's your favorite pokemon, and why? No need for specific characters, just which pokemon as a whole are your favorite? Make me a convincing case, and I just might do something about them :)
For instance, my favorite is Ivysaur! They're quadrupedal critters, which is something I just like, but with the vines, they've still got handy limbs to manipulate objects with. They've also got a lot of utility in their moves, like Razor Leaf to cut ropes or branches, and Sleep Powder for chilling out enemies, or even just helping a friend get some shut-eye :) And the extra fang bit is just cute, I've always liked that XD

Guess what today is! :D
General | Posted 14 years agoYup, incredible as it may seem, I've made it another year, and I'm 24 now! life's had its ups and downs, but here we all are :D I'm confident that this year'll be full of ups just waiting to arrive ^_^ So happy birthday to me, and I hope you all have a wonderful year too!
Status Update!
General | Posted 14 years agoOkay, the situation has been solved. I actually have money for stuff like food now, and I've disabled the thing at the bank that let this whole thing happen. Thanks to everyone who chipped in! Crisis is over, but commissions are still up for anyone who wants some art! :)
COMMISSION INFO
Commissions run on a pretty simple scheme. $10 will get you a fully-colored picture of up to two characters of your choice, with an increase of $5 for each additional character, and another $5 for an intricate background. No extra charges for adult stuff, kinks, etc. I love doing ref sheets, too, and I'm more than willing to do it for your char; each extra pose counts as a character, pricing-wise. No slot limit, and the order is first-come, first-serve, though I'll work on them as fast as I can. I'm liberal about re-dos when needed, and I'll send sketches as I get them to make sure I get the picture right; you're paying for it, so you should get what you want, after all, so don't be afraid to ask for a fix.

Commissions Open, and Desperately Needed!
General | Posted 14 years agoSo, I'm screwed. It's a long story, so if you want it brief, read this bit and skip to the end: my bank screwed me over and I'm about to be approximately $300 in the hole to them, so I'm asking for commissions to help pay for cars and food.
Here's the long version. My little bro - call him Mouse - didn't have a monitor. He'd just spent $200-ish on sprucing up my old desktop so it runs pretty high-end, but he'd borrowed an old monitor we'd been using for the family computer. This monitor apparently belongs to another younger brother - we'll call him Asshole - and and Asshole decided that he didn't want Mouse to use it for himself. Never mind that we didn't have any other monitors that Mouse could use, this monitor belonged to Asshole, and damned if he was going to let someone take something that belonged to him. Being a good guy, I offered to lend Mouse the money to buy a nice, new one, and he got a good one for about $100. Unfortunately, I only had $200 in my account... and my mom later cashed a check for $125 I'd given her a few days ago.
My bank never deigned to tell me this, so I continued to make a few small purchases. A little food, pizza night for the family, stuff like that. Each one of these the bank covered, oh so generously... and then charged me what it cost PLUS $35. I only found out about it now, after I'd been charged $140 extra in fees, and I've got another four purchases pending. This week's paycheck will bring me to $-80, not counting any fees the pending ones will bring (likely another $140). Unfortunately, I need to pay about $125 a week for cars and groceries, plus $50 a month for my phone. And I make less than $200 a week at my job.
So, I'm opening commissions, and pretty much begging you guys for some help. I've got a fair amount of free time, and I'm open to draw just about anything you guys would want. Personal taste won't let me draw stuff like cub porn, scat, or stuff like that, but when in doubt, ask. I'm pretty open-minded. You can message me here, AIM me at "DashFeathers" (sans quotes), or email me at "kirbygod@gmail.com". Send a message, and we'll work out the details, and I'll deliver as soon as I can. And if possible, spread this link around. I need all the help you guys can get me.

State of the Dash!
General | Posted 14 years agoFigured I'd get that old exercise journal out of the way xD I did good, I'll admit, but my ambition petered out before I got to FFX (Was gonna do Valefore, by the by).
So, what's up with me? Well, inspired by the character development in a semi-recent pic, I was inspired to develop that character further. First, from just a generic race to a specific one, and now I'm giving this character backstory and an actual series to call their own too =O (A series that might well include some art, too!) The first chapter is finished, and may well find its way up here soon ;D
I know you haven't seen too much of me here lately. I've been in a bit of a no-progress slump, and the things I HAVE done haven't been things to put up here. Nothing terribly impressive, alas. But, hope that will change!

A Fun Little Exercise...
General | Posted 15 years agoHey, I just had a thought for a fun little art exercise. No meme, unless other folks want to pick it up. Simple bit: reply to this journal with a video game, and I'll do my best to draw something from the first five games pregnant :)
A couple rules ;D
1. Put the game in your comment here, and I'll do my best to get it drawn! No repeats, please, and try to keep it to actual possibilities (ie, no "Tetris" and such, kay? ;D)
2. If I can't get anything good out of it, I'll skip that post and go to the next one down in the list, so don't be afraid to post if you're not in the first couple of messages.
3. No purchase necessary, but try to keep it to one entry a person, eh? ;) Give everyone else a chance to have fun too!
Can't wait to see what y'all think up, and I'm looking forward to trying to draw it!

The Next Generation
General | Posted 15 years agoThe wait is over, folks! At long last, I've finished the first book of the new series, The Next Generation (not to be confused with "Next-Gen Labs", my silly short series made with a friend ;)). This one starts about three months after the end of The Draken Chronicles, and it'll focus heavily on Shana and Talma. I've got Book II almost completed, and I've got a lot of ideas for the future, so you can look forward to seeing some of those too!

Mass Effect 2
General | Posted 16 years agoMass Effect 2 came out three days ago. I finished the game about five minutes ago. IT WAS EPIC. I thought the first one was a brilliant game, and that they'd be hard-pressed to top it. I was right, and they pulled it off.
Mass Effect 2 is spectacular. One of the best things about it was playing through with a save file from the first game, and looking at all the little things that you affected. Almost everything was improved from the first game, and even the bits I was skeptical about wound up being VERY well implemented.
The only complaint I have is that, while the main story is longer and still very gripping, the game feels far shorter due to a lack of side-missions. In the original, you were almost tripping over people who needed you to do things for them, and could lose the main story for a good long while in completing those. ME2 does have a decent number, but not quite enough to make them worth much while.
Still, though, it's an amazing game. If you played the first, you'll love the second.

Avatar
General | Posted 16 years agoI just saw Avatar this evening, in IMAX 3D.
My first thought when the film ended was that there are no words to describe how beautiful this film was.
My second thought was that this was the first time in my entire life that I had been ready and willing to turn around and immediately lay down the money to go in and see it again.
This movie has topped everything and anything I have ever seen. It was absolutely gorgeous. You would think that they took cameras down to an alien planet and started filming. I make computer animations for a living, and I honestly could not see that anything in that world, the environments, scenery, plants, animals, or characters, were computer generated.
And by beautiful, I'm not just talking visuals. The story itself is just as stunning. If you only hear a synopsis, you have no idea what you're in for. My mother, a professional novelist, was absolutely blown away. The premise may have been done before, but the individual details, the story itself, is amazingly new, and completely breathtaking. The pacing was set PERFECTLY. It didn't go too fast, and there wasn't a single scene that dragged on or seemed superfluous. Everything had a point, and felt just right.
Honestly, this is by far the best movie I have ever seen. I wish that I could write, animate, draw, even DREAM something like this. And who knows? Some day, I just might be in on the next one ;)

The Draken Chronicles
General | Posted 16 years agoWell, faithful viewers, it has finally come to pass. The Draken Chronicles have finally been uploaded in full, and the series is finally complete. I put a huge amount of effort into these stories, and I'm glad that people here will finally be able to enjoy them :) And for those who enjoyed them, another series will start up soon! It'll come in one story at a time, this time, instead of these huge floods ;) I hope some of you are looking forward to that as much as I am!

New Screen Name
General | Posted 16 years agoHey folks! Quick note: Thanks to AIM for some reason deciding that it hates my screen name - but just that one screen name, all others work fine o_o? - I have acquired myself a new one! :D I am now "DashFeathers" on AIM, for when you need to reach me!
New Stories! (Update)
General | Posted 16 years agoHey folks! I've finally been able to get a start on posting the Draken Chronicles, my long-awaited story series :3 Some of you might've read these before in other locations, but I actually went and updated them for posting here! So even if you've seen them before, give 'em another look, they're even better now! So far I've got up to Book 3 ready to go, and the rest will be coming soon!
Update!
I've wrestled with FA's document system a bit, and now I've updated the stories as TXT files, so you can read them on the site without having to download 'em! :)

Brawl, Baby!!
General | Posted 18 years agoHey, guess what game I've got! :3 My Brawl code is 2964-8350-8911, drop me a line! I need some friends for my list there ;3
Hey there!
General | Posted 18 years agoHey everyone, I'm Dash :D You may have seen me on DA, or around a couple other art sites, and I finally decided to get myself an FA account. I'm currently working on populating this gallery with my old works, but never fear, I'll be putting up new stuff soon enough!
A note for new viewers: a lot of my characters are drakens, from a series of stories I wrote a while back. Head over here to read them. They're old, and the series is currently over, though I may write a few shorts on them, and plan to go revise them sometime in the near future. Anyway, read and enjoy ^_^ It'll help you learn my characters better.
