Change of plans again?
Posted 4 years agoI still wanna look for a tattoo apprenticeship, but until I actually start making money from doing that, I’m gonna take commissions on a regular basis! FUN

Posted 4 years agoWe made it back from our trip down to CA, just a bit ago.
Some parts of it were stressful, but I really enjoyed the trip and staying in Santa Cruz for a few days. I ALSO FOUND A SHOP WITH JUST MUSHROOM STUFF, AND A YELLOW BANANA SLUG
https://twitter.com/lavalampbelly/s.....032289793?s=20
And so many vultures, and got to meet up with
thegrindragon which was REALLY GREAT
While I was gone, I didn’t do any comms, but will pick those back up either tomorrow or the next day depending on how I feel.

Wow cool MORE COMMS
Posted 4 years agoNot quite back from my vacation
BUT thanks to a slight change in circumstances, I’ll be taking on more commissions when I get back, so if you want one, look out for a post about it!
I’ll also have a couple of fresh originals up in my shop and prints available for them as well

HI
Posted 4 years agoLike usual, I’ve been doing a lot, but it’s mostly been on a short comic I’ve been posting to patreon and won’t start posting it here until it’s done.
I’m also going on a trip the day after tomorrow, my first out of state road trip without my parents (WOW), and have a couple of commissions to finish, but I should be able to get them done sometime today, depending on everything that happens

LAST CALL FOR COMMS
Posted 4 years agoFor those of you that don't follow me elsewhere, I've decided that later next month, I'm stopping commissions (or at least trying to put less emphasis on them and my shop) to get a tattoo apprenticeship.
Even though I haven't been the best at advertising my art on here, I do want to offer one last chance before this happens.
All of my digital prices can be found here https://www.osteocephaly.com/#commissions
I also have marker pieces starting at $45 (example https://img3.pillowfort.social/post.....c42e21027.jpeg)
and gouache paintings starting at $150 (https://img3.pillowfort.social/post.....2e2e001bb.jpeg)
if you have any questions, or want one, please email me at lavalampbelly[at]gmail.com

OH BOY (I need help)
Posted 4 years agoEarlier this year I got a new car (a beetle, which I Love), I should have gone somewhere to do a pre purchase inspection, but that might not have stopped me from getting her anyway.
She needs her transmission rebuilt, which is going to cost me from $3500-$3800, luckily, I have about half of that so far, but I’m gonna need some help reaching the rest, be able to take care of bills, food, etc.
Also, luckily the place I’m going to does financing, but I’d rather do that as little as possible.
How can you help?
Commission me: http://osteocephaly.com/#commissions
Buy something from my shop, or some kofi: https://ko-fi.com/tapeworm
Consider my patreon for a bit: https://patreon.com/osteocephaly
Even if I get $600 or so more, I’ll be able to get this done

Posted 4 years agoTaking a big break from social media is helping my mental health out so much.
And it sucks that things are really slow for me right now in terms of commissions and shop stuff, but it’s also nice because I’m getting more of a chance to do personal projects, some of which I’ve been very slowly working on since last year.
And also a lot of plant stuff, my partner’s going wild (in the good way) about gardening and we’re getting a buttload of decorative plants and crops of different kinds and its really fun, and a nice thing to do outside with the mushroom season ending.

NEW MONTH NEW STUFF
Posted 4 years agohttps://www.patreon.com/osteocephaly
No fancy art post this time, just a journal
This month, I’m turning the realized worm tier to one that gets nice things, there’s going to be a small handmade pin every other month and stickers once a month
I’m also going to be finishing up some traditional pieces and offering them for sale there first before putting them up in my shop

COMMISSION REMINDER

I’m just about done with both the larger pieces I have, and feel comfortable enough to take on a few more!
I’m also offering my general commissions if you don’t want fancy linework:

OH BOY
Posted 5 years agoI can finally make more teeth earrings, but I had to cut open my resin to be able to, so now I have almost a gallon I gotta use before it goes bad.
This means I need more stuff to make to cast, right now I have a doll head to finish sculpting and molding, some tooth masks, the teeth, teratomas.
But all of these take not very much resin so I have to go on a sculpting spree, and here’s what I’m thinking:
- claw rings, which I’ve been looking to make forever anyway
- either teratoma or worms face masks
- possibly fursuit blanks? Those are something I’ve been looking to do for awhile.
Any suggestions on what you’d like me to make?

Thoughts on alternative sites
Posted 5 years agoI saw someone over on twitter talking about how exoduses from here don’t really work and that the way the site is run needs to really be fixed, which I never thought about with people leaving.
And I guess that’s why those sites tend to remain dead, people use them as more of a secondary place, And maybe having their activity on there dependent on the activity that they get.
If that makes sense.
I don’t think secondary is the right word, but I can’t think of what the right one would be.
Anyway I think any alternative site is gonna get instantly popular or anyone’s gonna get a whole lot of activity right away and if you really want to move from this place, everyone needs to put effort into building a new community.
My brain’s not working with words so I might edit this later

Oh holy shit (positive)
Posted 5 years agoEven though its still not a ton, I’ve gotten more commissions at once than I ever have before ;_;
I might take on a couple smaller ones or one more big one before closing them, I can do a lot and have some High Art Stamina, but also don’t want to overwhelm myself. And everyone that’s contacted me so far definitely has a slot.
Thank you so much 💚💚💚

Well ok
Posted 5 years agoThis was probably gonna happen, pandemic or not
But, this next week at work, I’m only getting ~9 hours, after already working reduced hours for health reasons
And of course, bills and stuff aren’t gonna stop because I’m working less, so I need to make some money artwise:
All my commissions are open, prices are here:
https://www.osteocephaly.com/#commissions
I also have my shop on my site as well, with some cool stuff you should check out
A patreon: https://www.patreon.com/osteocephaly
And kofi for smaller tips and such:

What’s been going on?
Posted 5 years agoI kinda miss looking at longer journal entries, updates to people’s lives, questionnaires etc.
I forget if I’ve shared what’s been up with me the past few years, so here we go:
- worked at joann about 3 years and developed shoulder problems from it
- started on T in 2017, I’ve been on it for a full 3 years now
- quit joann, did inventory counting for a few months, quit that, and now i do stock at cost plus
- at the beginning of last year, i moved about an hour away and in with one of my best friends. It took a bit getting used to living with people im not related to and cooperating with them, but I’m really happy and comfortable now
- started selling at smaller shows, I did most last year
- decided to focus on more gross fleshy stuff and sculpture work
- managed to get a good amount of preorders for a mask which was really exciting, I’m wanting to do more, but it’ll be differently.
Overall, I’ve gotten a lot more confident in myself and selling my art, despite my severe social anxiety

Moving on (shop stuff)
Posted 8 years agoSo, I'm probably not going to be selling on tictail anymore since they're starting on some pretty awful changes and I cannot do that.
Like, they're going to be charging people to use the custom store, charging a transaction fee, if you don't have the plus thing they'll redirect sales to the market place which takes 10%.
And as always, my problem is that I do not make enough off my art to deal with all of that and I'm going to have to move around more until I find a better place.
I guess what I could do is what my friend Yoik did, let people comment if they want something and build up audience that way, until I find a better place. I did that for awhile but stopped for the sake of having a shop somewhere.

some changes
Posted 8 years agoI'm going to head back to using two accounts, my personal one being
tapeworm.
Anything related to my shop will remain here, as well as commissions, prints, and other goodies.
Anything character related, misc. stuff and other personal drawings will all be there.

P A T R E O N (among other things)
Posted 8 years agoI've decided to open a patreon anyway, I like the idea of it and it's better to go ahead and do it rather than sit around thinking about it. I don't expect everyone to be interested in it right away, nor to get a lot from it for awhile.
So for the time being I'm going to have just one rewards tier and posting wips of all sorts of things there.
I've also lowered the price on the adoptables I've made:
Crass-$40
Xuli-$45
Skulleis-$30
If you want any of these lovely monsters, you can comment on the submission or email me at lavalampbelly[at]gmail.com

Posted 8 years agoMY DUDES I HAVE 420 WATCHERS ON HERE NOW
Reflecting on stuff (advice welcome)
Posted 8 years agoSo, as it happens every so often, such as when i get stressed over stuff, I start to feel bad about not making much off my art. Not just not getting commissions but also stuff in my shop (I'm working on that part by selling at local craft fairs)
But anyway, I was feeling awful earlier today because honestly I downright suck at connecting to people and that's a big part of the art world.
And I feel like another big part of my problem is my pricing, I have been pricing things purely on my skill rather than how many commissions I got. Which made sense to me until today, I should be starting from a lower point than I have been trying to. If that makes any sense?
I've also been in very much a drawing mood over anything else and want to try to get back in the commission game, probably revise my prices and lower them quite a bit until I do start to get more and gradually raise them.
With all my social problems I feel like that would help me more than a pathetic attempt to connect with people.

possibly a patreon?
Posted 8 years agoI've been thinking about creating one on and off, but thinking about it more lately because it seems like a nice idea mostly so I can dump all my sketches there and try to work on posting things at different times and days at different places.
Because right now I just kinda impulsively post everything everywhere at once.
The things that have stopped me before were 1. I don't have much of an audience right now to get much from it and 2. I don't know what the rewards would be.
But, I made an account on there and have been thinking about rewards, there would be some for illustration stuff and some for my physical items (like my process for dolls, discounts in my shop etc.)
So, I've got a couple questions:
1. Would anyone here contribute to it?
2. What sort of rewards would you like to see?
