I don't normally do this, but I have reached a point where I must supplement my income or the Devil will come to collect my debt.

I am offering $30 digital commissions and I will take as many commissions as there are interested buyers for them. What you will get for $30 is up to two characters doing whatever you want them to be doing. (I've relaxed my no no list.) I will include backgrounds at no charge. Extra characters will be $5 per.

I also ask for half of the cost up front, the other half to be paid before delivery of the finished commission. Once it is decided what I will draw, we will discuss the price and shipping method and then I will come up with a sketch or two and present them to the buyer for approval and changes. I will request that the first half of the payment to be made before continuing with the piece at this time.

When I finish a piece I will present the buyer with a low rez digital scan for approval before requesting the other half of the payment. I require full payment to be made via Pay Pal before I will send the buyer the original artwork. Digital art will be sent as a high rez (300dpi 2200pixel x 2000pixel) png with the psd available upon request.

I am not charging shipping because I intend to send buyers the work digitally either by email or uploading them to my web space for download. If a hard copy is wanted, a $5 shipping fee will apply.

Hey 3d Modelers! You see this picture here? ( http://deadjackal.mootnet.us/images/wtf.jpg )It's a render of something I'm working on in 3d Studio Max but for some reason, and it's probably something I did, when I render a frame to check my progress part of the model is smooth and part of it appears blocky.

What causes this? And most importantly, can it be fixed? Using NURMS causes the model to turn into a bright orange wireframe that doesn't render, and using any smoothing modifier leaves unbearable seams. Either way, I have a problem and I can't figure out how to get around it. I hope this isn't going to require me to start over. I have made several saves before noticing this and made the cardinal sin of not making any save iterations :-\

I'll delete this post once I confirm any responses, but I'm hoping somebody around here knows something about it.

So the other day I ordered my books for the next round of classes at school and had them mailed to my house. As I'm opening the package, I'm saying to myself, "Sweet! A new copy of Office 2007! Oh, what's this, other piece of software?" Nope.

It was a DVD.

I knew I was taking a humanities course, but I did not read any mention of Shakespeare in the syllabus. Damn them sneaky administrative types, trying to fill my head with historical literary analysis and stuff!

It must be apparent that you are doing something right when you are chosen out of a pool of 1000 candidates for one of 14 posistions in a company. I never thought it would happen, but I beat out the competition and landed an design apprenticeship at Bath Iron Works. For me this means four more years of school and another design degree; although this one will be a major in marine engineering rather than art.

Who'da thunk it. A guy like me, building ships for the Navy. I guess that is what happens when the only decent jobs around are in retail (fuh, only my wife wants to work at wal-mart for $9 an hour) or at the shipyard.

Classes start in October. I'm so excited! Apprenticeships accelerate the progress through design classifications so it'll only take me four years to reach class one status. To put it in perspective, it takes roughly 15-18 years to reach class one status just by working up the ladder through senority.

So.. In four years I'll be raking in as much money as my father... and he's worked at the yard for over 23 years. Huzzah for kicking ass at what I do!
