Whew… (Commissions info and update)

Sorry for the silence. Things are… all over the place. It’s a lot of good and difficult at the same time. The little wiggle is doing well. She still has episodes to the point that we still don’t sleep, but they’re improving. Our avenue for getting TWIU off the ground and other IPs besides is also making progress. (We’re hoping to have something done in time for Julycanthropy, just sayin’.) And we just got back from a much-needed family reunion.
But amid all the blessings we also had to put down my last childhood dog, I’ve been battling depression, hives of an unknown source, and possible carpal tunnel, and we’re still trying to make headway with Mr. Lab’s health issues. There has to be a balance to keep us humble, right?
I hate to do this, but in the midst of everything I don’t think I can complete my commissions. I’m so sorry, guys. I’m spread too thin and possibly the most tired I have ever been in my life. If you paid in advance, you will be refunded. Please remind me what I owe you. Again, I am deeply sorry. ):

Unexpected Developments

I hope you are all well. I know it’s been a bit. ^^’ A lot has been going on and keeping us beyond busy, but I haven’t forgotten you guys.
Our little wiggle is now four months old. She still has episodes, but they are becoming much less frequent and severe. We’re still up at all hours, but now it’s mostly to sit her up and talk her through them rather than aspirating her. She rolls over now and is well on her way to crawling. She’s also cutting teeth, so not only are we not sleeping, but neither is she. ^^’
I’m also still nibbling at commissions when I can (I’ve almost finished the rough of the first one... whoo!). Those that I currently owe will be the last commissions I do for the foreseeable future, as Mr. Lab, some very close friends, and I have some pretty big plans currently in the works involving TWIU and a handful of other creative endeavors besides. This means that I will unfortunately not be posting here very much, but I will be sharing where you can find the official home of TWIU and other sundry brainbabies.
Ah, there’s the call of our most adorable tiny overlord. Gotta go.

Dearshul Another Wiggly Update

Our dear little wiggle is asleep, so I thought I’d grab the opportunity while I have it and update those interested. First, though, I want to thank those who have reached out to check in. Your care means more than you know and I will reply to you individually soon. It’s just hard to find time at the moment.
Her two month check up was mostly positive, but left us a little anxious. She had an ultrasound to check for pyloric stenosis, but it was inconclusive and her slow weight gain had the pediatrician concerned. Apart from that, though, she is meeting all of her benchmarks and is generally on track. She is also beginning to resolve her episodes with little help from us, which is incredibly encouraging!
Then, just yesterday, we met with a specialist and found that our little wiggle is both lip tied and tongue tied, which could account for both her reflux and slow weight gain. This is good news because it is something that can easily be corrected with minimally invasive procedures —much more so than pyloric stenosis would be— if they are even required at all.
So, long story short, we’re still up around the clock, episodes are still a thing, and we’re still sort of playing the “maybe she’ll grow out of it” waiting game about much of the situation, but things are looking up. Mr. Lab is back at work during the day, so I’m still trying to navigate fitting in commissions work. Thanks for the love and patience, guys. It really means the world.

Dearshul One Month of Wiggling

This is just a minor update for the curious. Our little wiggle is now a month old and just as wiggly as ever. Her episodes continue, but we have become pretty comfortable with the protocol. It doesn’t hurt to have found a very caring and knowledgeable pediatrician, either. It still isn’t easy and we still need to watch her around the clock, but in all other aspects than her episodes she is a strong and lively little lady. According to the doctor, this condition will likely resolve itself by her first birthday (thank God). So, yeah... a year of insomnia. XD It’s a small price to pay for someone so precious.
Thank you for all the prayers and love, guys. It really does mean the world. Thank you, too for your patience. I’m still working when I can.

Dearshul Working on the New Normal (Owed Commissions)

I’m not quite back to my usual self yet (abdominal surgery will do that to a person, it seems), but I am on the mend and we’re beginning to get the hang of life with our little wiggle. So, I’m in the process of carving out time during the day to get commissions/comic work done. I’m hoping to get a trickle of rough sketches of owed commissions out in the coming days to get a jump on when I can sit at a computer and paint, God and wiggle willing.
I’m not currently taking any new commissions due to my demanding stay-at-home-mom workload. I may reopen in February, but that is entirely dependent on our wiggle’s schedule. She’s our tiny adorable overlord until she’s old enough to be reasoned with. XD Anyway, I believe I have the full list of owed work below. Please remind me if I’ve missed yours in the shuffle.

We may well get to meet our little wiggle tomorrow, and I’m getting more excited by the moment. ^^ If not tomorrow, we’ll be meeting her very, very soon, so please don’t be surprised if there is a long stretch of radio silence on this end. Thank you all for the love and encouragement thus far! It means so much to us. I am thoroughly blessed to have so many dear friends, even if we are miles or even countries apart.

Maternity Leave

I've got one commission left to finish before I close up shop and wait for our little wiggle to make her grand entrance. She has been teasing us for almost a week now with scattered false contractions and other signs that labor is on the horizon. Thank you for all of the well wishing and support in these last nine months (yup, we're at the very beginning of nine now!). It truly does mean very much to me.
Now, to commission matters. I intend to jump back into working on the digital commissions that have been waiting just as soon as I can. For now, I don't know exactly when that will be. If I have to have a C-section we might be looking at February or even as late as March. If not, probably sometime in January. Rest assured, however, that I haven't forgotten you lovelies and I will definitely be finishing the queue that is already in place. After that is accomplished I will open up for commissions again when I am able, but much of how that works will be dictated by our wiggle and her needs. Being a stay-at-home mom is going to be top priority. I'm sure you understand. ^^
I'm not sure how art flow and responses are going to look in the coming weeks. I know I'll go stir-crazy if I don't draw, so there will probably be uploads, but I doubt I'll be able to respond to comments too often. Please know that I do read them when I can and thoroughly appreciate them. ^^

I just read an article that said, and I quote, “Bats fly by the power of jazz hands.” I laughed at first and then actually thought about it. They kind of do. I’ve looked at bat wing anatomy in depth for proper creature design, and the bone structures in their wings are very similar to those in human hands. The same goes for birds and some subclasses of dragons. So, really, they’re either hurling themselves through the air by the theatrical might of jazz hands, or they’re propelling themselves by repeatedly attempting and failing to clap. So... that’s something to think about.

Current Commissions and (Full) Waitlist

It's just Mr. Lab, our wiggle, and me in our house. My family's town and homes were untouched by the fire but a large portion of the surrounding national forest was lost, which is heartbreaking for the community (and me, since those were my old stomping grounds growing up). Even so, we are beyond grateful to the men and women who risked their lives to save the town.
Now, after this and new information from our latest OB appointment, I'm putting my nose to the grindstone and trying to do as much as I can every day since there is a very good probability that our little wiggle will come much earlier than my due date. (She's perfectly healthy, just big for her age. We think she'll take after her daddy who was ten pounds and premature.) It is my hope to finish out my remaining commissions and work through the (nearly?) full waitlist way before then. After, I'm going to go on self-imposed maternity leave to arrange our nursery and take care of other mommy preparations. ^^

Brief Update: Fires and Such

Commissions are paused for the moment due to fires in the area. We’re out of the way, but my parents’ and grandma’s homes are not. This means that we’ll be busy with housing them and their dogs until the evac orders are lifted (optimistically). Life is going to be chaos for a bit and I don’t want quality to dip due to stress. I’ll keep you all posted when I can.
Update (9/22):
Things are looking better with the current fires. My family's homes are not out of the woods yet, but hopefully firefighters will reach full containment by the end of the week. I'm nibbling at commissions when I have the time and making progress little by little. Hopefully we'll be back at running on all cylinders soon.
Final Update (9/30):
Evac orders have been lifted! No homes or businesses were lost in my family's little village, thank God. The firemen have been working tirelessly, and I doubt they shall be paying for their own meal in town for a long, long time. With that settled and Mr. Lab's birthday plans for me out of the way (he really outdid himself this year), I am back to my sketchpad.
There are some rough weeks ahead with our little wiggle. She takes after her daddy in the size department --6'4" to my petite 5'1"-- and so my muscles have very painfully separated in my abdomen and pelvis. I wear a support belt, which helps, but there are some days where getting out of bed is a struggle. Even so, I'm going to finish the current commissions and waitlist work. It'll just be slower than I like. Thank you in advance for your patience.

First, I want to thank everyone still waiting on commissions for their patience. With our little wiggle quickly taking up more real estate in my fairly compact frame and my trying to juggle comic work, I'm running into some unforeseen obstacles and LOTS of setbacks when it comes to digital art. On a good day I'm able to sit long enough to finish maybe three or four character poses worth of linework with several walking breaks in between to keep my feet from swelling too much and my back from complaining too loudly. It makes for slow work, as you can imagine.
Because of this, I'm going to try to power my way through the remainder of the commissions list and then switch to strictly traditional media commissions so I can work in bed and hopefully crank out pictures with more ease. However, I hate to admit it, but I am almost certain that I won't have the stamina to make it all the way through my digital list before our wiggle gets too big for me to work properly at a desk. Realistically, we're looking at the current picture I'm working on and the completion of two other commissions at best. To all who end up on the unfinished part of the list and have to wait until after the baby is born, I am offering a 50% discount on your order for the inconvenience, if indeed you are interested in waiting that long. If not, no hard feelings. I know it's asking a lot from you. ^^'

This journal is not at all business related or full of necessary information. I just wanted to gush a little bit. Today, for the first time in too long, Mr. Lab, our little wiggle, and I have devoted a big chunk of the day to TWIU work and I couldn’t be happier. In the span of an hour we’ve roughed out page one, come up with a cover, and added some unexpected but pleasant bits to the lore of the TWIU universe. Our goal is one completed page today (and maybe a bit of progress for Sam and Lucy, too). Here’s hoping for a productive rest of the day and that we meet our September goal!

As it is Mermay and not all of the beaches are open, the undine, merrows, and selkies are willing to lend a hand to human visitors just this once. Consider it a day-pass to see just how much better it is under the sea! Of course, they can only allow so many human visitors at once, as it has been ages since the underwater realms have had any meaningful relations with our kind and they will want to keep tabs on their guests. Oh, and be warned, the transition to an aquatic form can be a bit of a shock to the system. Gills take a moment to adjust to, if indeed you end up having any.

I hope you all are well! No, no it isn't coronavirus (as far as I know). From what I can tell it's an unholy combination of allergies and my heart acting up due to stress. I am by no means cancelling any commissions, but I am going to have to take some time to get back into working order. It will likely be a couple of days at least. I'll keep you posted, and I apologize for this inconvenience. ^^'

Before I jump in, I hope all of you are doing well out there in the midst of all of this craziness. This is a scary and somewhat lonely time for a lot of us. The good news, though, is that we can keep talking to each other here and build each other up. ^^
But now onto the less happy news. California's closure of non-essential businesses has meant that Mr. Lab's work has come to a near standstill. We might not be able to pay rent if nothing changes. So, I've got to crank out a lot of commissions in a short period of time. This means I'm going to temporarily narrow down the menu in interest of making it under the wire. Here's what we have to choose from:
-Transformation Sequences (limited to 4 panels)
-Selfies
-Cel Shaded Full Bodies
-Emotive Silhouettes

First, I must apologize for not keeping in touch. My husband's business exploded (in a good way) this month, and it has made life very busy. On top of that, heart flare-ups, insomnia, reconnecting with local friends, anniversary plans, and general burnt out feelings have made it difficult to keep up with much of what I typically am able to do on this site. I still love you all immensely, I'm just struggling trying to juggle making my body work and manage my time.
That said, I'm still working on the commissions in queue and I'm hoping to pick back up with RPs that I have absolutely sucked at keeping up with this month. I apologize to those of you who have been waiting on me. I really dropped the ball and I should have communicated more frequently. Thank you for your patience, and I ask for your forgiveness. ^^' It is my aim to be back at full speed next month, God willing.

I am, however, still trying to pull out of a pretty deep bout of depression so if I tap out and just lurk for a bit please don’t be alarmed. I’ll be alright, I’m just very tired and interaction can be taxing when I get like this.
Commissions are still open, RPs will be tended to within the next couple of days, and I am looking forward to catching up.

On this day three years ago someone very close to Mr. Lab and me was taken from us heart-shatteringly suddenly. Today is a day of remembrance for us and it takes a bit of time to bounce back from it every year. If my responses/commissions/RPs are infrequent for the next handful of days, that is why. Thank you for your patience.
