I have a smidge of down time, so I wanted to send the warmest of season's greetings to you. I hope you were able to make new memories with family and friends and enjoy the holidays! Mr. Lab and I were fortunate enough to see most of everyone on two of four sides of our family over the last week or so, but now we're absolutely beat from traveling. ^^ Still, we'd do it all again in a heartbeat.
Did you receive any good gifts this year? I know I did. The gift this community has been still astounds me, and I am truly grateful for all the friends I have made here. So, at the close of the year, I want to thank you for all the times you helped pull me through the rough spots, pushed me to solidify parts of the TWIU world, and encouraged me in every way possible. You all absolutely rock! I owe so much to you.
As is tradition, I'll be putting up a "Winter Magic" offering soon as a tiny thank you (God willing, you'll be given proper recompense this next year for all of the kindness and patience you've shown this lame webcomic artist ^^', but that is a journal for another time). After all, what is the holiday season without someone being an ass at some point?

Due to the absolute trainwreck that is the Covered California website/customer service, I will be spending what will likely be most of the day at the County to sort out our health insurance for next year. Hopefully I'll be happily proven wrong, but realistically I'll likely lose over half of my workday thanks to this. So, please bear with me.
I still intend to work my tail off until the end of the 13th and I'm going to cram in as much rough drafting and reviewing as possible. I'll use the featured journal to keep you updated on my progress. I apologize in advance for the inconvenience. ^^' Thank you all for your patience.

A bug has utterly knocked me on my butt early this afternoon. I’m taking today to get medicated and pump myself full of fluids, and might have to do the same tomorrow. As soon as I can get into a seated position I will back to working my way through the queue, though some commissions on the tail end may not be finished until after January 1st. For that I sincerely apologize.
P.S. The fever dreams have been something else! I might draw the horrible things that live in them sometime.

As some of you may know, I've offered commissions for a long time but I've never actively promoted them in favor of quick YCH's and art sales. Now I'm going to shift focus and see how well things go. That isn't to say that there won't be any options other than commissions, of course. I still intend to do YCH's and art sales, but I don't want to lean on them as heavily. Hopefully this will open up more time to actually work on "That Which is Unseen" and get it to a place where I'm proud to have people see it.
Also, I'm re-vamping the way my shinies work as an alternative to Patreon until I can get some things sorted out (gotta love complications ^^'). All proceeds will still go toward TWIU work, but generosity will also be rewarded. Every $15 worth of shinies gets a piece of mystery art centered around a TWIU character of your choosing, and every $35 earns an original TWIU themed desktop background. Shinies are also cumulative, so a shiny here and there can add up pretty quickly!

Power Outages

I'm doing my best to get commissions done and sent, but due to high winds in our part of the state the power company has been cutting our electricity to avoid fires from possible downed power lines. I'm going to keep getting work done whenever I have the opportunity to use my computer, but it may be slow going. Because of this, whatever time I have on the computer will be devoted to work rather than RPs. Hopefully soon I can keep up with both. Thank you for your patience.

At long last, here's the newest thing Mr. Lab and I have been working on. Because of the labor involved, I'm doing something a little different with pricing. While my typical minimum for a PWYW is significantly lower, this particular sale has a $20 minimum price. Now that the tedious business side of things is out of the way, allow me to pass along an invitation from one of the more prominent figures of the Greylands, Lady Clodagh.
Esteemed mortal guest,
You are cordially invited to my annual Masquerade Ball, which is to take place at the Millwater Estate in the Greylands on this coming Saturday. Refreshments and entertainment will be provided as well as masks of my own design. There are but a dozen available, so please reply to this invitation in as timely a fashion as your schedule allows if you wish to have your pick. You will find that the festivities may awaken something within you that you never knew was there.
It is also expected that I may reserve a dance with each of my guests. Upon this point there is no negotiation. Consider it the price of admittance, as I do not abide slights to my hospitality.

It is once again birthday month for the two of us mutts, but resources are not at all what I had hoped they'd be to make the year of "The Order of the Phoenix" as exciting as last year's festivities. I have some tricks up my sleeve, but I could really use someone who can do a decent angry old Englishman voice to record a line for a howler from Dumbledore in one of the early chapters of the book. I'll pay with art if you're interested! Any help you can offer is most appreciated. (Please don't be offended if I choose one person over another. I'm searching for a particular vocal quality.)

Due to some crazy events that happened this week, there is a good chance that I'll be opening up commissions again soon on top of art sales. Financial necessity dictates an overhaul of my commissions list and prices, and a sudden lack of time is going to require that I no longer take commissioned comics. I expect these changes will probably be finalized next week. When life comes at you it comes at you hard.
Also, I'm going to be doing the upcoming masquerade YCH a little differently. I hate to put a minimum amount on PWYW's, but because it took a lot to get this thing looking decent I can't really afford to do anything else. I hope you can understand. ^^'
Before anyone asks or gets worried, Mr. Lab and I are fine and will continue to be fine. We've just got our work cut out for us until we can rearrange some things. My apologies to those waiting for an RP response. It's probably going to be a while. If you have any prayers to spare, they are thoroughly appreciated.

For the first time in months I had a pretty nasty heart episode. Not the worst I've had, not by a long stretch, but it has knocked the energy right out of me. So, if you are waiting on a response, commission, etc., from me, please pardon my lack of speed. I promise I'll get to you soon. ^^
On another much happier note, I've had some time to get more rough panels done lately. I cannot express how absolutely wonderful that feels! Inch by inch I'm getting closer to launching Patreon and putting my story into honest-to-goodness finished pages. Thank you all for the love, interest, and support through this journey. You give me a reason to keep pushing, and I couldn't be more grateful for each of you

After some necessary but unexpected business expenditures, we've found ourselves in need of another art sale. So! I will give Lord Umund, High Magister of the Seelie Court, the floor so he can explain just what he has in mind. Magister?
Lords and Ladies of the human realm, I offer my fondest greetings to you. The business I come to address is of a purely academic nature and entirely voluntary. It is my hope to create a better means of removing transformative animal curses from human forms as your people tend to have a difficult time overcoming them on your own. Now, I hardly mean this as a slight! Heart magic can be as formidable as any Unseelie curse, but without its proper application it is as useful as one of your cellularized telly-phones would be to me.
But I stray from the point. In order to find a proper counterspell, I must alter some willing subjects. You may choose what animal form you take, of course, so long as it is not one of the Noble Races. Ah, it occurs to me that you may not know who I speak of. I refer to dragons, unicorns, and gryphons. Relations with their lords are strained enough without causing any inadvertent insult. After that, I should have you back to your proper human forms within a week... Give or take a few days. Now, which of you kind souls will aid me in my studies?

Relations with their lords are strained enough without causing any inadvertent insult. After that, I should have you back to your proper human forms within a week... Give or take a few days. As I mentioned in an earlier journal, I'm looking for some background characters to fill some TWIU pages. Specifically, I need dryads that are inspired by tree species native to the UK and the Mediterranean, respectively. So, I put it to you, lovelies, to throw your brilliant ideas in my direction. Let me break down how this will work.
For those of you who like to draw, here is what I'm looking for:
*The dryad character of your design in forward facing T-pose
*Three facial expressions that sum up their personality
*A color key
Don't draw? No problem. Writers and voice actors are welcome! Here's what I need from you:
*A detailed physical description of the character
*Five of their favorite phrases (no worse than PG-13 language, please)
*A short interview with the character in which they describe their view of the world
*By entering this contest, you are giving me the rights to the created character in the event that you win the contest. This means that I am able to use, edit, and expound upon the character for use in future "That Which is Unseen" artwork, promotions, and publications.
*Nudity, gore, or excessive mature language or themes will result in disqualification.
*Tree species must be native to either the UK or the Mediterranean.

The last couple of weeks have been something else. ^^' Things are a bit dicey (are you noticing a trend, here?), so art sale time it is! This time, the lovely foxblood puca, Lorna, will fill you in on her wares.
Well, now! You have picked a lovely time to visit the sidhe. My summer ale is brewed and my fruit wines are at their peak of quality. If ever there was a time to try fae spirits, it is now! Ah, but I must warn you, fae food and drink tends to... do interesting things to the human body. It might be best if you try just a taste first and see how well you handle your liquor. Here, have a look and see what interests you.

A Small Dose of Encouragement

I was digging through my TWIU binder for a reference and I ended up looking at some of my first drawings of Henry. Suffice to say they were awful. Like, I drew him with my left hand in the dark during an earthquake awful. However, looking back reminded me of a very important concept: the only thing that stands between your art and the art you wish you could create is practice.
Keep trying when you're tired. Keep trying when you're discouraged. Keep trying when you have no ideas. You'll get there.

I wanted to give a head's up that for the next week or two art and responses are going to be slow. I have a couple of fairly large projects that are in the queue, and I am making a concerted effort to stay focused on them so I can get them done in a timely fashion. Hopefully if I can keep pushing forward with them, we'll be looking at one week rather than two.
I also want to thank everyone for the interest in the Trixie series! The funds from the sale and the overwhelming support through watches and faves were a massive boost to everything Mr. Lab and I are trying to accomplish. You all mean the world to me and I want you to know that you are appreciated.
The last fairly interesting thing I want to toss out there is that upon my return I plan to have a bit of a contest. I'm looking for some sidhe based and Mediterranean based dryad characters to bulk up my backgrounds for TWIU. I'll give details when I come back, but please don't feel like you can't participate if you aren't confident in your drawing abilities. I'll be opening up options for written entries and character voices, too. Let those beautiful minds start percolating! ^^
