Pottered out!
General | Posted 18 years agoWell, I think I'm good and Harry Pottered out! Over my birthday weekend, the 7th book arrived AND we went to see the latest movie at the Imax in 3-D (although only 20 minutes of it was in 3-D...and it wasn't NEARLY as impressive as the trailers for the 3-D "Dinosaurs Alive" and "Sea Monsters" shows--THOSE were incredible 3-D!)
Even though my time is at a bit of a premium, I HAD to read the book--apologies to everyone waiting for artwork, but I'm only human!) I blazed through it in a few days. And here's my review of both Potter events.
First: The movie--HP and the Order of the Phoenix. Not bad. I wasn't really as impressed with the big wizard battle as I was hoping to be. It seemed choppy...but that may just be me, because I know how much more there is (having read the book) to the scenes and the characters that they could only touch on in the time allotted. There were a lot of things they had to leave out that I would have liked to see, but again, there was only so much time they had to tell a VERY long and complicated story. Still, in many ways I thought this movie was better than the last couple.
As for the book--I enjoyed it. There were things I wasn't happy about, of course, but she tied up the loose ends, gave us some interesting twists and turns and delivered a satisfyingly epic battle to wrap things up. All in all, I think she did it proud. I don't feel like I've wasted the years I invested in the "franchise", and I enjoyed the ride.
So...back to muggle life. *sigh*

I survived DINOSAURS!
General | Posted 18 years agoLast night, as the main part of my birthday present (I'm turning 43 next weekend :P ), we went to see Walking With Dinosaurs, The Live Experience!
It was held in the Tacoma Dome, because obviously a very TALL venue is required...and we had front row seats, on the end, directly across from the screen where background video was displayed. There were two acts, and it was mostly done as a scientific narrative homorously delivered by a "paleontologist" who walked around on the stage area and explained when we were and what dinos were there and how they lived. It was well written and performed and interesting, but it would have been fairly dull and dry without the...FULL-SIZED DINOSAURS WALKING AROUND THE STAGE WITH HIM!!!!
It was spectacularly cool! The smaller creatures like the Utahraptors and the baby T-Rex were largish costumes/puppets with people inside controling them. Their legs were visible, so there was a certain degree of suspension of disbelief required. (It was like the Lion King stage play, where the animals are performed as puppets and you just ignore the obvious puppeteers.)
But the true glory of the thing were the beautifully engineered, incredibly, amazingly massive Brachiasaurs, the fairly large brutish Allosaurus, the wonderfully bulky Steggosaurs with the huge dorsal plates glowing red when they became angry, along with several other species--fifteen in all, I believe. But we were really all waiting for, and were completely blown away by the appearence of HER majesty--the mighty Tyrannasaurus Rex! That was a fantastic moment!
The mechanisms running the creatures were easy to see, though they were camoflaged as best they could be, but that didn't take away from the shear, awesome specical of these gigantic creatures moving around the stage in such a fluidly life-like way. It was truly wonderful--made me feel like a kid again. Seeing a movie of dinos has no comparison to seeing such massive structures in person moving around and swinging near you.
Having said that, I'm still going to include a URL for a U-Tube video from the show, just so you can get a glimpse of what it was like to see. Being there live is definitely a stunniong experience. If it comes to a city near you, I avidly recommend going to see it!

Hits and Misses!
General | Posted 18 years agoOn to important things:
My views on BAD MOVIES BASED ON THINGS I LOVED!
I was really disappointed the other day when I saw the commercial for the Underdog movie. Instead of making a cool animated version of the show, with the characters like I remember, but updated with the infinitely better animation technology available...they made it a cheesy live action thing with talking dogs. It got me to thinking about the other movie adaptations of other media works that I loved in their original form, but felt betrayed by or just hated the reinterpretation for the big screen. I mean, sure there've been successes: Batman and Batman Begins, Superman 1 and 2, The Crow, V for Vendetta, Spiderman 1 and 2, and the latest being Transformers. But what about all the major crapfests that people have perverted my beloved childhood memories into?!
And why can't they just make straightforward interpretations of them...why do they have to give them twists...like with the Bewitched movie, for example. Had the perfect cast (almost) but screwed it up by adding a "twist".
"My Favorite Martian" was a show I LOVED as a kid. Sure it was silly and juvenile. But the new one didn't have to be! Especially since it was obviously geared toward adults. Dreck!
Van Helsing took my fave monsters from the wonderful old Universal Studios movies and made them SUCK!
The Fantastic Four has been tried 3 times now...and they STILL haven't done it right.
Seriously--what do you consider to be the best or the worst of movies based on other materials, ie: books, comics, old tv shows or cartoons, etc. And do you get as irritated and frustrated as I do when they take a treasured childhood memory and turn it into incredibly expensive shit?!?

General | Posted 18 years agoI was just so excited, I felt like a little kid...well, a gay kid that draws porn and got his work reviewed on a prominent gay blog site...
http://gaycomicslist.free.fr/pages/blogger.php#280
Not ONLY is there a really cool review about Rocketship Rodents, but when I clicked on the link to the Class Comics website, I discovered that Patrick had updated the site adding "The Mark of Aeacus" pages and lniks and stuff!!!
Trejaan had posted the link to his website and told me about it when I chatted with him earlier. He's da man! Always got his finger on the pulse of events. I am generally clueless until he clues me in. Thanks, hun! I don't know what I'd do without you kickin' my butt in the right direction!
Anyway, please check it out! I'm really hyped!

Resume...
General | Posted 18 years agoI just got my copies of the new issue of Rocketship Rodents!! Woo Hoo! HOT off the presses! It premiered at AC this past weekend, so now it should be available on-line at RabbitValley.com--for anybody who might be interested... *Hint, hint*
Seriously tho--it looks pretty good. I've been pretty happy with the series so far. It gets better with each issue, so as long as it keeps improving I can live with the imperfections I still see. My favorite image in this issue is a panel where a still tied up Randy throws himself (with tears in his eyes--he's soooo cute) onto Buck as he's sitting up. They're both naked too, btw. ^0^
SO...I've now produced 4 RSR comics, 1 Aeacus book (just advertised this month in Previews by Class Comics), 4 Platypus Rex books (which are supposed to be published soon by Angel Gate Press), a Fur&Fury compilation comic (it had all four episodes from the first four FurNation Magazines in it with a new cover painting, published by FN Multimedia.) Plus, the covers for 4 issues of Star Trek: DS9 (when it was published by Malibu) and 3 cover paintings and some inking for a small press published comic series called The Eden Descendants. I also inked a cover and a couple of books for Mortal Kombat.
There you have it! The extent of my comic book career! About 21 books altogether...and not all of them even published yet--and about 15 years between the ST: DS9 and Eden books and the RSR books!
Thank GOD for all the Magic: The Gathering cards and furry art that kept me going!
*snugs*

Happy Day-After Independence Day!
General | Posted 18 years agoI just want to say, I am a fairly liberal individual, not to mention gay, non-Christian and generally feel safer voting Democrat in elections. This does NOT make me unpatriotic.
I love America and prefer to live here rather than in MOST other countries in the world. I know that Conservative Republicans like to portray people like myself as hating America and subversive, but I submit that the "love it or leave it" mentality is a MUCH more subversive attitude. I like it here so much, that rather than abandon it to the factions that want to turn this country into another religious theocracy--like the world needs another one of THOSE--I prefer to fight to keep it a place of freedom of thought and ideas and a bastion of personal liberty!
Just because I think Bush is the most dangerous and worst President ever--that doesn't make me a bad citizen...I think it makes me a good American!

Back to the salt mines...
General | Posted 18 years agoToday is my first day back at work. In fact, it's the first day I've driven my car for 2 weeks. Fortunately it's like riding a bike...only with more gridlock.
I'm trying to go easy on the pain pills while I'm here and, of course, before I drive home...so that, combined with the leaning forward desk chair position is making for a very uncomfortable day.
Of course, I'm ending up having to change the outer gauze layer more often because of the pressure being placed on the wound.
Fun.
So, it's back to the grind for da Pup.

Pupdate, Part Deux
General | Posted 18 years agoHi gang!
I LIVE! Anyway, I'm back home and am going to be laid up for a few more days...to a week--still have to follow up with the surgeon tomorrow. But things went well, so I expect everything will be better soon.
My bloodtests came back borderline diabetic, however, so I'm going to HAVE to start dealing with that reality.
Anyway, it's still difficult for me to sit here at the office desk, so rather than reply to each of you, as you deserve, I'm afraid that for the time being, I have to resort to this less personal update.
But thank you all for writing and the good wishes! They were touching and greatly appreciated.
*Group snug!*
See you soon!

So, I went to the doctor on Saturday to check on the progress of the abscess on my right thigh. He poked it with a needle hoping to drain the infected fluid out, but he couldn't find the pocket--so I had to wait til this morning.
I went to the doctor this morning, and after looking at it, cutting away a bit of the dead tissue on top and poking it with more needles, she decided I needed to go to a surgeon. She got me an appointment for this afternoon.
I figured, well, at least this will do it, I'll get it over with and be able to get on with things...but no. The surgeon didn't cut it or poke it. He prodded around a bit and told me he would have to dig to find the pocket because it wasn't draining on its own...I had to make an appointment or tomorrow. Why tomorrow--because I have to be unconscious for this. Also, he's concerned because the abscess is very close to the right groin artery.
In the meantime, my blood is being tested for diabetes because he thinks my immune system may be compromised.
Tomorrow I have to go to the hospital to get prepped, sedated and cut, drained and scaped.
So far, this is my least favorite week of the year. And last week sucked pretty hard too.
*sigh* Anyway, I'll probably be out of it for a couple of days while I heal--it's difficult enough to sit here and type this now.
*Hugs* See you on the other side of this mess!

General | Posted 18 years agoWell, people certainly did seem to enjoy the last journal entry! So did I, I learned loads :) of wonderful new, and very expressive names for part of the anatomy you aren't allowed to talk to children about--because God said so.
I wish I had something that fun to talk about today...but I don't because I'm too busy being in lots of PAIN! I got this bump on my inner thigh the other day...felt like a big pimple that didn't make it to the surface--you know how that is, I'm sure. I didn't pay that much attention to it...until it turned into a massive, swollen , and even bleeding sore! The doctor I saw yesterday called it cellulitis, which I guess means it's just cells that have, for some unknown reason become infected and are now trying to gnaw my fucking leg off!
Seriously though, I'm on yet another round of antibiotics. (I just recently finished a different round of them because of diverticulitis.) The really big irritation is that it's right where my leg bends, so sitting and driving and even walking has become an ordeal of stinging pain. Sitting here at work, typing this right now...HURTS.
Anyway, I feel like smeg and just wanted to share.
Pitiful, ain't it?

Cock Etiquette
General | Posted 18 years agoI've noticed that people use different terms for the penis, not according to where you are so much as what state the appendage itself is in. Guys tend to say "dick" when they mean a penis in its flaccid state, or when they aren't speaking of it in a sexual context. They use the word "cock" when they mean a hard rod of manmeat, juiced up and ready for the plunge!
"Penis" is only used when a guy wants to entirely dehumanize the male genitalia and speak of it in an entirely third-person clinical sense.
Just something I've noticed... Don't even get me started on "snatch"! ^0^

Commissions proceeding...
General | Posted 18 years agoHad a pretty good weekend..made some good progress on my current crop of commissions. I've got approved sketches for all of them and am proceeding to the final drawing stage--that is the finished pencil art. Then I will scan them and move on to the digital coloring stage.
All the commissions I initially got from posting on FA have opted for the same thing--the $50 digitally painted pencil drawing. There're 7 individual pieces going simultaneously, and it's been a real job shifting back and forth between them! Some will finish sooner than others...some are more complicated or are somehow more elaborate than the others. I will ultimately have to adjust the prices a bit as it's turning out to be more work than I anticipated.
But the good news is that they are getting done, and I'm enjoying working on them! But next time I might not take on as many at once. (Also, I probably won't be able to because I have comics projects that will need most of my attention!)
But I do want to thank the brave souls who have embarked with me on this test of my dubious ability to coordinate multiple projects!
*Hugs!*
^0^
PS: For the curious, most of the resulting art will be displayed here--after the commissioners have received and approved them, of course.

General | Posted 18 years agoI'm at work, plodding through my dull tasks like a good little employee. Last night I was so grumpy about stuff I never even bothered to eat dinner. This morning I decided to not eat anything today and see how long I could go before I started gnawing on the furniture...but by lunchtime I was so shaky and feeling sick I decided I was being stupid and got a sandwich...and a cookie. I guess I'm hopeless.
SO...last time I talked to Bel, she said we all need to "talk" tonight. :P I'm hoping I'll have an accident on the way home! (Only kidding!! If any Fates are listening--it was just a joke!)
And so, life continues. I do my day job, I go home and deal with my domestic situation...and then I hide in my lair at the roof of the world and draw PORN!!!! Mwa ha haaaa! Soon, I'll become America's biggest gay porn comics artist! Or at least, tubbiest. LOL

General | Posted 18 years agoIf anybody out there thinks my life is cool and interesting because of my living circumstances, today was one of those days to prove them wrong. Today is a day that my Evangelical Conservative friend would point to and say, "See--if you lived like NORMAL people your life would suck less!" He'd be wrong, of course, but I certainly wouldn't be able to prove it by using today as an example!
I DON'T want to fill this journal with depressing entries, however. That's what made my LJ so dreary. So, I will mention something cool that happened yesterday. I got a note from the guy who runs Class Comics and he wants me to do a stint as an illustrator on one of their titles! Unlike Aeacus, this would be wild, crazy, spoogey, no-nonsense gay porn! I am hoping this will lead to more work of this sort--my ultimate aim is:
To replace my dayjob with an exciting CAREER drawing naked men! I know there's an audience for that, and by GUM, I'm ready to embrace that audience, and help them WANK!
This is all still in the early planning stages--a few months away, so all of you who have commissions in the works, fear not! We're still on track.
*Hugs*

A Thousand Pairs of Eyes!
General | Posted 18 years agoWell, according to the numbers above, I have over a thousand "watchers"! I'm not entirely sure how significant that is, but it sounds pretty darned awesome to me!
So I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has come to see my work and has picked one of my pieces as a favorite! *Hugs to everybody!*
I promised myself I wouldn't cry... *sniff*
I'm a happy were-koala snow meow today.

General | Posted 18 years agoI had such high hopes for this past Memorial Day weekend. I imagined knocking of committments right and left, of sketches just gushing from my pencils, of running around naked! Alas...as Gandalf would say.
It was too cold to be naked, I had difficulties with some of my projects and I couldn't even get my sketches all done--hell, some I couldn't even get started. I felt sick on Monday, the dogs ran me ragged and I couldn't get concepts from my head onto paper to save my frickin life!
Anyway--this is a quick note to people waiting for sketches to approve for their commissions. I've got some done, some not done, and a couple I just ain't happy with. In any case, I should have several scanned and ready to email for discussion tomorrow evening. I would do some tonight, but another problem I had last night was insomnia--I laid awake for hours, and had to get up even earlier than I usually do, so I am zombified ATM.
*Hugs to everyone!* (I get overly friendly when I'm sleep deprived.)
G'night! ^0^

I would do some tonight, but another problem I had last night was insomnia--I laid awake for hours, and had to get up even earlier than I usually do, so I am zombified ATM.
*Hugs to everyone!* (I get overly friendly when I'm sleep deprived.)
G'night! ^0^
Alone at last...
General | Posted 18 years agoMy wife and her boyfriend have just packed up the car and headed down to Oregon for two days to see Marianne Faithful, and so I have the house to myself!
Now, hopefully I can get some work done. I have several commissions that being on FA has generated, and I'm working on preliminary sketches for those. I'm also working on a couple of pics I'm hoping to get into the RainFurest con book. So I have plenty to occupy me. Also, the dogs have to be taken care of and the kitten requires occasional attention. Ooo--I need to do some laundry! I know, I know--my life IS indeed glamorous beyond belief!
This is actually the first time I've been home alone for more than a day--in this house, anyway. Perhaps I shall parade around naked! If I had a good bady and was really hung, I would SO have gone the nudist route! I like being nekkid--but being all chubby, I am very self-conscious. I think naturism is cool. Americans are too hung up about body tabboos. It's part of what makes us so neurotic! We should be more erotic instead!
Well, inkeeping with that policy, I'm off to shed my clothes and draw porn!

Party On, Dudes!
General | Posted 18 years agoAfter clearing the butterflies out of my head, I managed to figure out how to attach example links to listed prices on my commission page. This is a good thing as I have a number of furs interested in acquiring original art from me! Yay!
It's been very exciting to be on FA, finally. I felt that I had lost touch with the furry community to a large extent. After my initial foray into fandom with the Fur & Fury serial in FurNation Magazine and my first website, I hit a peek and have been on a steady decline ever since. Rocketship Rodents has helped, but I still think I was becoming less well known in furrydom.
Also, it hasn't helped that I was neglecting to keep my site updated and wasn't doing much to get new work into general view. FA is a really neat venue for being able to share my work and follow the work and lives of other furs! It really IS a small world after all. ^0^

Keeping track
General | Posted 18 years agoI'm going to start keeping track of my various doings here on FA...possibly deleting my LiveJournal site. I would rather have a journal that focused on the artwork I'm doing...or trying to do, and being able to easily show my progress or final pieces. LJ was just becoming too much of a place to rant and rave and be angry or disillusioned by the world. I think I'd rather hang out in a furrier world.
I've got a few people interested in commissions so far and am working out the details with them, and this is good. I want to get a reliable system of doing commissioned work for people, for several reasons--chiefly, I just want to get work out there and get people interested in it again. I also need more "freelance income" since the work from places like Wizards of the Coast has become more and more scarce. Besides, maybe Magic cards pay better, but I really enjoy doing furry art more than regular fantasy art.
I want to get more involved in the furry community in this way--and through this site. More exposure here will hopefully translate into more sketchbook work and print sales at cons, making it more feasible to go to them.
Right now I am working on a couple of drawings that will hopefully make their way into the RainFurest con book.
Well, that's it for now. Thanks to everyone for your generous welcoming comments. I'll continue posting work, so please visit on occasion, and when you want some art, please feel free to write!
*hugs*
