Alternate Websites
Posted 10 years agoLet it be clear, I am not "leaving".
I will simply increase my use of other websites. Weasyl shows great promise, and I will, for the time being, prefer to be there.
FurAffinity and IMVU have torn apart the interface that we have all known and loved, and I am not sure if we will ever get it back.
So,

I'm also on SecondLife, user SilentPaw.
If FA should die out because of the intrusive ads and stupid sidebar, that's where I'll be.

Personl Life Updates, and a Request
Posted 10 years agoWell, figured I'd throw out an update.
I have now been a furry for, five years. Eh, I'm three days late. I don't care.
Five years and three days. Fine.
So, I have moved, again. I'm now in an assisted living home. It is taking some time to adjust, and the process is slow, but, I am eating well, I am clean, warm, and for the most part, happy.
I recently had one of my computers stolen, but I can't do anything about it. Oh well.... So, moving right along, I'm managing where I am.
My internet connection isn't exactly the best, but it works.
Here's where the request comes in. My bike just broke down. It's no long road-legal, and, it might end up dying when I'm miles from home. I can't ride it.
The problem, I don't even know the cause of yet. Any time I turn on the headlights, the motor dies. Don't ask me how that works, I have no stinking clue.
So. http://www.gofundme.com/qabedc I have that. I would appreciate donations, but just telling others would at least make me feel better about the whole situation.
So, whatever you want to do, donate, share it, laugh at my misfortune, or print the page off and use it as toilet paper, I don't care. I'm just putting it out there.
Moving on from that, my life is alright. I'm missing all my fuzzy, furry friends, and I wish I could be with a whole bunch of y'all right now.
But, I suppose some pillows and a book will have to do for now.
Lately, I've been reading Lemony Snicket's 'A Series of Unfortunate Events', which is a wonderfully depressing book series. Thirteen books of wit, pure misfortune, word definition, orphans, death, and a whole assortment of unpleasantries.
I have also gotten quite creative with a box fan, as it happens. It hangs from the ceiling now. Please don't ask me how I pulled that off, I'm not sure that I fully understand. But, it works, and that's all that I care for.
I am thinking of other things to speak of, here. But, my mind is blank. I cannot think of it.
So, with that, I leave you with what you have here. A journal, written by a crazed lunatic of a wolf, with some content that may or may not be of some or any interest to you at all.
Hoping you are well,
-Dr. Silent D. Paw

Pulling watches
Posted 10 years agoI'll make this simple. You bring up drama about this IMVU purchase, I unwatch you.
That is all.
While I'm on the topic, my thoughts.
While I am not opposed up improving the website, I would prefer to see the terms and any contracts between FA and IMVU. The NDA doesn't help put my mind at ease, but I'm going to trust that FA staff has the best interests of users in mind.

December Journal
Posted 11 years agoSeems I haven't written a journal in, way too long.
A lot of things have changed for me in the past few months.
In September, I was running low on funds. Through October, some time then, I sold my car. I miss that car. But, it was eating ALL my money. I mean, ALL of it.
I was going through a program called Jobstart through July and August. So, quite unfortunately, that really murdered my savings. I had no money left after that. The idea was to get me a job, but, they didn't get that for me, or any one else, for that matter.
So, I sold my car. I then bought what is called an Ebike. This is, at the core, a bicycle. However, it is equipped with an electric motor to drive the vehicle. My bike is, what some would call a "scooter" style. So, it's a bit of a wonky looking motorcycle.
In the next number of years, I'd like to get a motorcycle, though. Once I can afford it, that is.
I have also moved to a city. I did not live in a city before. Now I live in a city. This is scary. But interesting.
So, now, I'm in a city, living well enough, budget is tight, but I'm working on that. If you want to help me out, though, I'm not "begging for donations", but, if you want to throw money at me for no apparent reason, you can wire a payment to my paypal address, dectswolf (at) gmail (dot) com.
I expect nothing. Just a side note.
Moving on, living in city,
I have my own place. My "den in the sky", I call it. I basically live in an attic. It's a nice place, though, warm enough, but the air system is linked with the other two units. And everyone in this building smokes. I don't.
I also had to evacuate from my own den, ironically, just hours after hearing about the gas attack at MFF.
I believe someone may have emptied a can of Lysol somewhere, and it ended up venting up here. I literally couldn't breathe.
But, I got windows open, ran out, all was fine an hour later, more or less.
So, I got one of the two vents plugged off, so most heat comes from an electric radiator. Fine by me.
My home internet, yes I pay for my own, this is so strange, but cool. I have 100 gigs a month, so it's not too bad. I generally don't have to worry about it too much.
I do enjoy living on my own, though. No one ever bugs me, normally, to clean stuff. My mom does stop by most Thursdays, drops stuff off, or takes me shopping, and she does bug me from time to time, to clean my den. But, I manage well enough.
I'm quite amused, as it happens, at how the things I so often took for granted, I now have to think about. Internet? Getting it set up? I never had to worry about that. But now, I do. Or, did. I also have to monitor my usage, from time to time.
Food. While I do snack on stuff from time to time, I do try to cut back on how much I eat, since I actually have to pay for it, and it is heavily limited. I never had to do that before.
It's quite brilliant, though.
Anywho. I often do more writing over at my blog, on my website, http://dects.org/blog.html
If you wish to stop by there and read what I've been up to, feel free. I also accept comments as emails, which I then add on manually. It's a very basic way to do so, but, easiest, should I have to reinstall my webserver. Again.
Anywho, that's all for now. I hope everyone is well.

Posted 11 years agoSo. Today, I need to do stuff.... What am I doing?
I don't know.
Someone bring me coffee.
I need to go, places, pick up someone from a nearby city, and bring him with me to Sombra where there is a package in my name, for him. I got a really nice two way radio, and he wanted to get one too. So, he paid me, I placed the order, and it finally came in. =^.^=
I should probably also get something to eat before I head out.
Once I'm able, I'm also going to try to get a bit of shopping done.

Things I Need to Do;
Posted 11 years agoIn a FIVE MINUTE PHONE CONVERSATION, I have the following tasks to do.
Tomorrow. Must make 28 dollar payment, to put 25 dollars to my prepaid credit card.
Then, that will give the 41 cents I need to make another payment.
Then, I must purchase a chocolate bar, and get 20 dollar cashback.
THEN, I put ten dollars of that, back into my bank.
I also have to keep in mind, building website stuff for a friend.
Then, next week on Tuesday, I must attempt to keep at least 25 dollars into my savings account,
I then have to pick up two packages at a ferry, a week apart.
On top of that, I have to concern myself with cutting back on driving, so as to save money, then get enough saved to pay for my next few months of phone usage.
I also have the ongoing task of migrating an entire Google spreadsheet, to Windows Contact format.
On top of everything, I have to call someone from a medical facility tomorrow.
Fun life I have, eh?

I'm Done.
Posted 11 years agoThere are no jobs out there to be had. Sure, apparently there's a lot. But good luck actually getting them.
Jobs are much like the black market. There's a massive network of it, but you just can't get in.
Honestly, there's no point in me continuing my search right now. EVERY company I've tried to apply to wants a lifetime of experience before they'll take you on, they don't pay near enough to make it worth my time, or I simply never hear back from them.
Another thing. Because I am only 18, there's a lot of sludge-brained idiots out there, who are much the same age as myself, making my age group look like a big group of pot-heads who couldn't care less about anyone else around them, or who they end up killing, just to have a bit of fun.
I am not that type of person. This is something that people really need to understand. I am not that type of person. Unlike so many others, I actually care about people. If I see someone stuck on the highway, I'll do whatever I can to get them back on the road and on their way. I take great pride in being able to help other. Unfortunately, that relies on others helping me. I can't just drive around endlessly, doing what I love to do, without first having money to work with.
I need a job, an income, so that I can do what I love to do. So, next time you're in my area, and you're stranded with either a dead battery, no fuel, or any type of vehicle issue and you can't go anywhere, and you don't see a little white smart car come up with the yellow lights flashing, and a big 6'something reflective guy unfolding himself from it, you can thank all the employers out there that decided that I wasn't worth their time.
That's right, every single employer that turned me away. Just because I'm too young, or I don't have enough experience to do the job.
That's literally an excuse I got. I don't have enough experience. Right. And you don't think I can't learn? I learn very quickly. One company actually had me, right there. They could have put me on a vehicle, and see just how much I actually know. This was for snow clearing. I can clear snow. I've cleared a lot of snow. In three days, I once cleared about 27,000 cubic feet of snow. And they're telling me I don't have experience with the stuff? I've built snow forts, snow castles, snow hills, snow ramps, snow men, snow walls, snow balls, snow animals, snow roads, snow paths, and I don't have experience?
All they had to do, was tell me to come in again in two hours. That's all. Two hours. Then I could have proven my skills, and had a job. But no, they didn't think I was worth their time.
Sure, I might be a bit slow with government paperwork, but who isn't? It's confusing stuff. I want to make sure I do it right.
So, whenever I'm not there to help you when you have a flat tire, or your car won't start, you can thank every single company out there that decided not to hire me, for the fact that I'm not there helping you. Sure, I might not get everyone, I don't get many people, actually. But I do what I can. Any time I see an opportunity to help, I take it.
But now, since no company wants me on board, because I haven't lived on this miserable rock of a planet for long enough, or because they think I haven't done something before and I can't learn, I can't be doing what I love. I can now no longer help people.
Is this really what society has come to? I'm a good worker. I work hard, I love working, and you can always count on me to do a good job. But, apparently, employers don't want to take the time to figure that out.
Why is this? I don't know. All I know, I can't get a job.
If anyone wants a good worker, let me know. I'm your guy. You tell me where, when, and what to bring.

My wallet just committed suicide at this thought....
Posted 11 years agoSince I've gotten my car, I've added a few features to it.
These include, GPS mounted to dash, dashcam, CB radio, and flashing warning/emergency lights.
I have a basic system right now, four lights total, two on front and two on back, but I'm looking to get a few more.
Ultimately, this is what I'm going to be looking for.
Left circuit: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xs1pimcz8.....i2/C1_Left.png
Right circuit: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4xvbztsk4.....l/C1_Right.png
I'm thinking I might have the mirror lights white instead of yellow, and an additional light pair on the front by Pair 0.
These lights actually come in pairs at the store, quite conveniently.
36.97*5=184.85
*1.13(HST)=208.88
Required cable, ~5$ per 25 feet, estimating 2 of + and -, 20 dollars.
208.88
20~
I'd also like to have some switches to control which lights turn on, or, because I have two controllers, which lights are controlled by which controller, switches, I'm not even going to run the numbers, I'm guessing another 20 for a few 3-way switches, controller 1, off, and controller 2. controlling pairs 1, 3, and 6 together, and all the rest on the other side. Lovely.
208.88 Lights
20 Wires
20 Switches
40 Overbudget (Because I like to make sure I have extra before I make a final number)
= 288.88.
Add to that, what I already have on, about a 300 dollar light system.
And here I thought it was one of the cheaper accessories.

People Lie to me?
Posted 11 years agoAs I am one of the operators on a furry chat network, I meet a lot of people.
Some people lie to me.
I have just one thing to say to these people. If you want to lie, be careful. I will find out.
People regularly talk about how they work for fursuit builders, have fursuits, have an insane income, stuff like that, sometimes all at the same time.
Let's put it this way. I will find out, and you won't be able to hold up your swiss-cheese story for long.
Simply, don't lie to me. I don't like it, no one else likes it, and it's just stupid.

False Accusations
Posted 12 years agoSure, I'll go ahead and stick my nose into crazy.
Let's put it this way. The new admin, Zaush, I believe, has had many numerous people directly, and indirectly suggesting that he has raped at least one person.
First off, saying such without proof, is slander, and defamation of character.
You want to accuse him of something like that? Get the official documents. No court records, no evidence, so do something smart for once in your life, shut it.
Get the records, get the documents, get the proof. Do it, fine. Accuse all you want. There is so far no evidence. If anyone wants to falsely accuse him, I will happily take you to court.
I have never met this guy, I know very little about him, but so far no one has managed to produce any official documents; police report, court records, any documents, nothing.

August 22, 2013
Posted 12 years agoWell, today was INTERESTING.
First, woke up crazy early in the morning, went into town and picked up a rental truck. Uhaul, because they're the ONLY company that'll actually rent a vehicle to me. >.>
So, got that, then did something I've never done before. I drove, by myself, all the way to Toronto.
I must admit, that was CRAZY. The drivers are generally impatient, rude, and just want to get themselves where they're going and not care about others. I'm surprised I managed to get that truck back in one piece. O.o
So, while I was there, I was able to finally meet up with two really great friends that I've known for, quite some time. One, since my first day in the fandom.
All in all, wonderful day. Very educational as well. One might think, "Alright, you just spent HOW MUCH to get the truck, and HOW MUCH for the GAS for it?"
Alright. Fine. I spent a total of $111.00 for fuel, and I'm guessing will have to pay 230 for the rental in the morning. Was it worth it? ABSOLUTELY. Why?
I got to meet two more friends in person. That in itself is good enough for me. On top of that, I got hugs from those two more friends. That on it's own makes the whole day and everything worth it all. Every second, every mile, every cent.
I've also gotten a lot just on the road. I've totaled up near 450 miles today alone, which is a new record for distance driven by me in one day, also learned to work with a MUCH larger vehicle than what I'm used to handling, for reference, U-Haul cargo van. Not the biggest they have, but I'm not going to rent a 26 foot moving van for a trip to Toronto. Not to mention, half the roads I went on, they don't want trucks on them.... >.>
Also, this has also helped tell me some about my potential future. If I were to go into long-haul trucking, could I manage it? Yes, I could. City driving, stop-and-go traffic, however, isn't so nice on the legs. But, once you get up to speed and have cruise set, smooth sailing onward.
Navigation was quite a problem once I got towards Toronto, particularly trying to get onto the right 40- highway. I go from 402, 401, I saw 407, 410, and many others. It's quite a confusing system up that way. I would definitely need a good GPS with turn-by-turn voice navigation. My phone works, but not well.
There's many educational things that came out of today, as well as a few pictures, hugs, and many memories.
I's happy now. ^.^
And now that I've found a place to store the truck until morning when I bring it back for return, I can sleep. Finally.

Will a disability get the best of me?
Posted 12 years agoI've been thinking for a while, particularly after Anthrocon and how I've been feeling lately. I feel I may have to get a wheelchair. I've been looking on Amazon at stuff there, found some nice addons and such, and thinking I might be able to get an addon to hold my laptop. Could be interesting.
As for mobility, some days are ok, others, not nearly as much. If you saw me at Anthrocon, guy in all black, DLCC wheelchair, sandy construction-grade workboots, yeah. I don't manage to well.
I'll probably start working to getting a wheel chair once I get back into Canada, and when I get some money back into my bank account. Only problem, house in Canada, not wheelchair accessible. Problematic, methinks. Oh well.
Also need to be working on a better diet. I'm just under 6'1", and last I checked a month ago, I was near around 260 pounds. Gotta check sometime soon. Definitely need to cut down a bit. That should also help with my walking.
So, soon enough, I'll be quite seriously looking into various mobility solutions. Hopefully, I will find ways of making my life less painful.
If anyone knows of ways to aid mobility, or happens to have stuff laying around, unused and forgotten, unneeded, please let me know. Some of these things can get somewhat expensive.
So far, it's all coming from Amazon.
Wheelchair, 100-130 USD.
Hand/wrist glove (fingerless) ~30 USD
Addons,
cupholder, 20
laptop table, ??

Concept; Furcon Rooming Website
Posted 12 years agoWas just thinking after seeing a journal from someone I'm watching, needing a room for an upcoming convention.
What if there was a website just for us furries where you could list yourself as open for roommates for cons, requirements, etc.
At the same time, you could also check the user for past rooming reviews, how were they to room with? Clean? Did they meet expecations?
Also, people could look and put up a notice that they are looking for a room.
Does this sound like a good idea? Useful? Does something like this already exist?
Any and all thoughts on this welcome.

AC 2013 photos soon....
Posted 12 years agoJust have to get off my tail and actually start processing the, I want to say near 10 gigs of video and pictures I got from AC this year. We'll see. I do intend to do something, I"ll probably just get a bit of a montage/whatever and link to a dropbox album for y'all to sorft (sort/sift) through.
Making up new words today? Yup. ^.^
Pictures coming soon. When, can't say for sure. Journal of my AC adventure soon to follow, again, when I get off my tail to do so.

AC 2013 Info
Posted 12 years agoWhere will you be staying?
Marriott Hotel
How are you travelling
Half-ton with a honk-honk and a vroom-vroom.
When are you arriving
EARLY Thursday morning.
Can I visit your room?
Nope. It's shared, so it's not just "my" room. If I know you, I might bring you along if I need/want to give you something or I need to fetch something for myself (ie, batteries, offload camera card, etc), but please don't show up unexpectedly.
Will you be selling anything?
Nope. Unless you want to buy a nickle for a dime. Otherwise, see commissions.
Are you doing commissions?
If you want to pay me for a photo, sure. Requests work too. We'll see. Two dollars if you want to pay me. Commission photos welcome. ^.^ [tldr; throw money at me and I take more pictures.]
How can I find you?
Look for the shadow. I often wear all black. Probably will have a collar, perhaps with headset. (MP3 player fits on my collar.) =^.^=
Or, watch for a small camera on a tripod. Yeah, I need to upgrade. No, it's not 80's equipment.
If I see you, how do I get your attention?
Just come up to me, yell out "Silent", "Dects", or "Cyberwuffy" while jumping around flailing your arms. I can hear pretty well, but if I don't see where you are, I just hear my name and don't know where to go.
Can I come over and say hello?
If you see me, go for it.
Can I get you to sign stuff?
Can't imagine why you'd want me to, but if you want the autograph of a cyberwolf, sure.
Can I touch you?
If you're clean, I don't mind hugs.
Will you be suiting?
I wish. Don't have a suit yet.
Are you in a relationship?
Yup, so don't get any ideas.
Who will you be hanging out with?
My mate Ami, perhaps Kenson, a furball, we'll see when we get there.
Who are you rooming with?
Ami, the furball, Lunar, and Eshkey.
Can I buy you food?
You can buy me food, but I have to see it come from a source, such as vending machine or restaurant (counter/kitchen).
Can I buy you drinks?
No alcohol please. I don't mind water, juice, pop, and I like coffee too, but again, I need to see it come from the source. I won't accept anything already open or unsealed unless it comes from priormentioned restaurant counter or kitchen.
Can I give you things?
Sure. I'll try to remember who gives me what, so, yeah.

Posted 12 years agoJust got a portal reference as I finished typing the title. Sorry to disappoint any portal fans. Nothing this time.
Just wanted to put something out there on here, yeah, I'm still around. Just quiet.
Any Ohiofurs or nearby area watching me, any of y'all planning on coming to KI on July 27th?

King's Island Meet, July 27th, 2013
Posted 12 years agoI will be down in Ohio throughout July, and will be co-hosting a furmeet with Ami at King's Island on July 27th.
Vital information:
Date/time: July 27th, 2013. 8:30am
Meeting at: IHOP, 5063 Bowen Drive, Cincinatti, OH.
Travelling to KI between 9.00 and 9.30.
Updated journal to follow with more specific directions and instructions and information and whatnot.
If you don't have a season pass for KI, you can buy a one-day at pretty well any Kroger, if it's not on display, it has been my experience that customer service has them. They are much cheaper, around 36.99 or something like that.
As normal, fursuits are discouraged, but ears and tails are more than welcome.
If anyone has any questions or concerns about this specific meet, feel free to contact either myself or Ami here on FA by note, or send me an email or text, inquiries (at) dects (dot) org or 203-423-3287.

Please Help a Friend

This Year; No Cons?
Posted 13 years agoSeeing people mention plans for conventions, so figured I'd do something too.
As much as I'd love to go to a con, no chance.
January: Booked until 24th. Free until Feb. something early.
Feb-June: Booked, EXCEPTION of March Break.
Beyond end of June, I don't yet know what my plans are. That does rule out most upcoming cons, and AC. I likely can't go out of the country for a while. Mostly just transportation issues, unless someone wants to drive me, and probably pay most everything, which is unlikely.
This wolf has practically no budget. Yay school. >.<
Beyond that, I might end up free for furmeets, local stuff, maybe a London con. After hearing good words of Feral last year, I might look to go to that. I have no idea right now tho.
Other than that, got nothing else to say for now.

Posted 13 years agoWell, what with all the crazy stuff going on, it's pretty hard to not get involved in something.
I want to be descriptive, yet I don't think I should.
Well, how about I just do this. I'll do as much detail as I can without going too far.
For quite some time, I've been living in a life of sin. This is with no pride or the such that I admit this, nor speak of it, but I figure it should be known.
If anyone knows more, please don't release the info here. This isn't about details.
Anyways, all through it all, had this thought in my mind telling me that there was something wrong. I generally ignored it, thinking that it was just what I was told in the past getting to my head, never figured it was important.
It was.
Let me set the scene. Tech booth at my church. I'm sitting at the soundboard. Pastor's talking about something on Thanksgiving. Then he says, and I"m not sure in what context, "God is always the same."
"God is always the same."
He's the same today, tomorrow, yesterday, and years ago.
I didn't think a whole lot of it at the time, but it started tearing me apart on my way home.
He's the same today, same as when He made the universe. Never changing.
So, after thinking that, I did something strange. I pulled into a park. Went over to a picnic table. I don't know how long I stayed there, or much more about what was going on. I sat down, in a partly sunny place, it was pretty well clouded. Windy too.
At that point, I did something that I haven't for quite some time, and I'll admit, should be doing much more. I prayed.
That started off with me asking for guidance, to know what's right. Basically, what lifestyle am I looking to live? I really don't know. Or, I didn't.
I don't know how long I was there. During that time tho, I'm sure the Lord spoke to me. It wasn't even speaking, but He lead my thoughts.
It was that point that I dedicated my life to the will of God. Whatever He wants me to do, I'll do it.
I want to be better than I am. I want to improve. I regret what I did.
This isn't my life any more. My life is for God.
I'm sure it's going to be a long, slow, rough path to get moving in the right direction, but with Him, and support from others, I'll make it.
A huge thanks to Wolfin, Levi, and Kenson for helping me with this. Y'all are great.
If anyone else wants to help me stay strong on this new path of life, I'd appreciate it.

2012-08-27 Update
Posted 13 years agoFloors have been in for a while, and not a whole lot of stuff is going on. I'm still alive, so that's good.
I'll be out of town tomorrow morning, and then next week I'll be gone a while too.
Finally get to do stuff tho. Memories are still circulating through my mind of my Ohio vacation. I had lots of fun, just wish I got a few more pictures.
Oh well. I'll be moving there soon enough, and I still get to talk with the people that I met. Yay!
Apart from that, not much going on right now.
Yup. I'm around.
