Sweet Bitter Nostalgic
Posted 2 years agoI usually never do these Journal-thingies but I wanted to share some thoughts...
I am currently sorting out my watch-list. I had over 5000 Artists on watch and every day 500+ Artworks in my inbox but I noticed that I scroll through 80% of it because it doesn't interest me that much than the other 20% so I thought... time for a little clean up!
I'm on this site since 2008 and never cleaned my watches so as I got through them, I read names, saw avatars I Haven't seen in ages... some of my favorite artists I always wanted to commission when I had the money! Some did comics I still know the panels today, some did artworks I used as Desktop backgrounds for years. I was so happy and sad at the same time to remember them but also that I forgot them... because many of them are gone... inactive since many years, some just left without any information... some just deactivated access... some mentioned they started a new life, new Job, new home, promised when the stress is gone they'll come back but never did... some went on other sides because they were unhappy with FA, some were bullied away from other artists and customers... and shockingly many of them already died.
I sometimes hurt to click on that "unfollow" button... Sure, I don't have to do that, the inactive ones don’t flood my inbox but... if they went on, passed by, left... maybe it's time for me to let go as well... I've read a few times where artists stopped enjoying drawing Furs anymore and left the fandom and that made me think...
But for now, I can't think about leaving the fandom. I'm not the typical furry, I don't go on conventions, I spent rarely money on commissions, I have little contact to other furs sadly... but this is what I am, I love my Sona, I love the creativity in the fandom, I love seeing other people’s characters etc... I just can't think of... getting tired about this part of my life since it's one important part of me!
I wonder how many artists will be left on my watchlist after I'm done... by that amount, I decided to do two runs. Currently at the first, I go through all watches and sort those out who deactivated access, deleted all their artwork or are inactive since at least 2020-2021. And when I am through those, I'll start again with going through the Portfolios and decide which art-style still interests me... some artists only do YCH's anymore which isn't my main interest so I'll decide then who I keep following and who's not.
Anyway, a thank you to those who read this, I'm heading back to my nostalgia and yeah... let's see how many artists survive the following years...
