For those of you that use Mozilla Firefox and have no aversion to Greasemonkey, I have a solution.
If you don't like using that add-on, I'd still highly recommend it.

1- Install the Greasemonkey add-on

2- Add a new user script and give it a name. Click OK

3- Highlight all the text that might be present in the next window that pops up and paste in this:

4- Click Save and close that li'l window.

5- Refresh FA and voila! Annoying ads should be gone, and ads done by our lovely artists should stay.
