Lately I've been thinking about revisiting some of my old commission uploads and adding stories to them, either ficlets or expanded writings. A couple of them I already have stories in the works but haven't gotten to, but others are an open opportunity.

Are there any pictures you absolutely love that you'd like to see get their thousand words? Or two thousand, etc.

Well, that was a long four months!

Things have changed a fair bit this year. Got a new job and just moved this past weekend. Hoping that will translate to increased productivity on the storytelling front!

In the meantime, got any burning questions for my characters? Ask away! Dan, Krista, Alex, Jenna, and the kids are available for questioning. Clean or adult questions are both acceptable for the grownups.

Yet more changes coming along. One character's going to be fading into the background indefinitely. Possibly for the best; lets me focus on my trio and their cute ones.

I'm going to be leaving their birth orders as-is, with Vicky eldest, Matt the middle child, and Sophie the baby of the family. However, I'll be moving Matt and Sophie's birthdates closer. Right now, it's looking like Vicky was born in 2019 and Matt and Sophie will be born five or six months apart next year. Start saving up for baby shower gifts now!

And for proof? It's only been three days since the last journal, and I'm already contemplating a change.

After talking with a couple writing friends, and looking at a few things in the timeline, I'm thinking of switching the kids' birth order a bit. Namely, making Sophie the firstborn instead of the baby of the family.

As to the order of the remaining two, I'm undecided. I think I will put Vicky and Matt closer together, maybe only a few months apart. Though it is rather tempting to have them both as the product of one particularlly wild night ;)

Since there was interest in learning more about my trio, I thought I'd start with a snapshot of their status on my current timeline. Might be spoilers for whatever I write in the future, but given how many pics I've commissioned of their adult lives, I think everyone can connect the dots :P

If you were to visit them on this very day, you would head to the west end of Montreal, Quebec, in the borough of Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce. Both CdN and NDG are predominantly Anglophone/allophone neighbourhoods of Montreal, which suits my trio fine; native Montrealer Alex grew up mainly speaking English, while Dan and Krista grew up in the almost universally English-speaking province of Ontario. Dan took French immersion for a year or two in school, so he's not entirely lost; South African-born Krista is still catching up.

The residence my polycule calls home is an upper level duplex apartment, located above one shared by three roommates, including  cervinecomedy's Becca Hirschburg. Both units are three-bedroom, or 5 1/2, as they're referred to in Quebec.

You'll climb the stairs and enter the living room of the apartment, the kitchen adjoining. Down the hall are the bathroom and three bedrooms: one master bedroom, the nursery for nearly two year-old Vicky, and a combination office/spare room. The bed in the latter is most often used by members of the trio when giving the other two some "private time" in the master bedroom.

Regardless of the time of day, the apartment is a hive of activity. During the day, all three are hard at work in office, bedroom, or kitchen. Dan and Alex, both of whom are working at a startup indie record label founded with  dereckdingo and his gf, were already working at home much of the time when the pandemic hit. They have since been joined by history professor Krista; aside from an ill-advised term job at a university out of town that required her to go into a nearly four-month bubble, Krista is teaching online exclusively. This works in her favour, since tenure-track positions are hard to find in academia, and most courses are term contracts. A challenge in most environments, it is even more challenging in Quebec, where only three universities use English in the classroom;. Teaching online widens her options considerably.

Few neighbours, aside from Becca and her roommates, know the true nature of their relationship. Nevertheless theirs is a warm, loving home. Rarely a day goes by without friends or family members dropping in to visit or dote on little Vicky. And who knows, maybe their family still has some growing to do...

A lot of folks I follow have been sharing worldbuilding and character notes in their journals lately. This got me wondering; would you like to see the same about my characters and the world they inhabit? What sort of stuff are you curious about?

Inspired by  meganbryar and  gracethegoldenfurred, I decided to share a few pieces of trivia about possibly my most popular character, Krista!

- She loves writing. She takes all her notes by hand using a fountain pen. She loves collecting different inks.

- She is a history student, eventually earning a PhD with the goal of going into teaching. The road there is a bit longer than she anticipated.

- One thing she isn't as good at is French. This makes her move to Montreal with her partners a challenge, even with getting a teaching job at an anglophone university.

- She will open up to you once she gets to trust you, but is perfectly happy to have a quiet night alone reading and listening to music.

- She is a jazz fan, having developed the interest by listening to old jazz records that belonged to her grandfather.

- Her mother is an architect. Haven't decided what her sister and father do. I'm thinking her father is back home in South Africa while the rest of the family stayed in Canada.

- Krista loves wearing skirts and dresses, and has a definite touch of preppy to her style. It would be all too easy to make an unlimited wardrobe for her.

- She has a weakness for tea and lingerie. On her wishlist for the latter is a fully-boned overbust corset.

- She was a tad plump as a child, which opened her up to bullying and low self-esteem. The scars lingered even after she hit her teenage years and the weight was redistributed in a more flattering manner.

- Prior to meeting Dan, her had had two boyfriends, one girlfriend, and one friend with benefits (later to be her partner). She had played with others intimately at parties, etc.

- Her early teenaged years were a bit rough. Her first boyfriend dropped her after their first time, which resulted in an unplanned (and terminated) pregnancy.

- Her favourite partner to cuddle with is her boyfriend/husband Dan, but her favourite partner to kiss is girlfriend/wife Alex.

- She is an early riser, something she has in common with Alex. Dan not so much XD

- She loves swimming. She prefers doing laps in a pool, but is not opposed to splashing around at the beach. She will neither confirm nor deny having visited the clothing-optional beach at Hanlon's Point on Toronto Island.

Any takers?

A conversation in an art stream chat reminded me of something I've been thinking about for a while: furries and eyeglasses. How would they work?

Artists typically draw furries wearing them human style; in the case of felines, the "earpieces" would hook onto their jowls, as seen in this drawing. That would be awfully uncomfortable, though. I know  stylewager draws furries wearing goggle-style glasses, with a strap around the back of the head, but that's not much better.

I think the only really practical solution would be pince-nez - hook them on the nose and don't worry about earpieces. Looks a bit out of place in a modern world, but they're practical.
