Other places to find me
Posted 2 years agoSo as many others I'm rather disappointed by the management here and the handling of the policy change. Seeing the lack of consistency and abysmal communication regarding the issue I definitely see good reasons to spread to other places. I mean Furaffinity has always been a bit of a shit show, but I've always been here for the community, and I still will be. I don't think any of my artwork will be affected, but who can say. For those going elsewhere, or fear the ship may sink one day I'm active on a couple other sites:
Inkbunny: https://inkbunny.net/Difetra
Twitter: https://twitter.com/DifetraArt
I'm also open to posting elsewhere if there's sufficient interest. Some of the other websites I have an account on, but no active gallery:
https://www.weasyl.com/~difetra - I actually rather like the layout and features weasyl provides. Always been disappointed it never gained more traction.
https://difetra.sofurry.com/ - Honestly a bit of an eyesore, but the overhaul is looking nice https://sofurrybeta.com/ might see that open up some time this year.
https://itaku.ee/profile/difetra - Made an account since it's been a popular recommendation. A bit cumbersome to browse, an endless scrolling feed to see new posts from artists is not a great experience for me, but it is actively developed so there's always room for improvement.
https://furrynetwork.com/difetra/ - So I kind of gave up on this one after the batch uploader scrambled my submission order and the gallery importer compressed my art to potato quality. It did seem promising at first, but not long after launch it seemed like the dev team up and disappeared.
Oh and my website I suppose: https://www.difetra.com/
I need to update my gallery there, and perhaps streamline the process to do so. I could probably add an rss feed without much trouble though. :P

New SFW Account
Posted 4 years ago
I'll be posting my non-fetish SFW art there and possibly some artistic nudity. What you'll be likely to find there? Slice of life stuff with my characters, cute animals, perhaps some art studies and landscape paintings, something like that. I've uploaded a couple of pictures from here along with some unposted art to start, so check it out if you'd like.
This will be replacing my old sfw account that has kind of sat abandoned for a while now, I fell out of the habit of using it since I didn't draw enough worth posting, but I've been wanting to reboot it. It's good to have a gallery I can share with a broader audience without scaring them away if they like some of my art.
Alt Account
Posted 7 years agoHeyo, I made a new account for grim spooky things, gore and the like. If something disappeared from my gallery it's probably there and any future art of the sort will go there.
I just felt like it's the kind of thing some people would like to avoid and since FA doesn't give many options for doing that this seemed like the best option for me. It's not the kind of stuff I like to draw all the time, but having the freedom to share when I do is nice.

Commissioning Process?
Posted 7 years agoI've been thinking about the way in which I take on new commissions. I've pretty much just taken them on the down low while I've been learning, someone messages and If I'm available I'll take it on, if not I leave the option to be thrown on a waiting list. I see this has the potential to grow ever longer with increasing wait times and older entries becoming unreliable as to whether they turn into work.
A common practice I see is having a limited number of slots that open at a given time, this deals with the unwieldy list problem at the sacrifice of excluding those who are busy/sleeping at the time of opening if slots fill up relatively fast (may or may not be a problem since I haven't done this method myself). I was thinking I could also have a mailing list to notify about openings which could help to some extent. There's also the matter of what types of slots, I could treat them all equal or split them up into types of work, paintings, sketches, that kind of stuff. That does complicate it a bit more, but there is a significant different between 3 paintings and 3 sketches. I guess that'd be something I could experiment with and also tailor to my mood if I wanted.
With that said has anyone found a process they liked or found convenient? I guess from both a customer perspective and an artist.

I'm on the Twitters
Posted 7 years agoRight heeeere: https://twitter.com/DifetraArt
Giving it a try, so we'll see if I commit to it, but I miss having a place to dump my thoughts. Tumblr just doesn't quite fit that for me plus I kind of don't like tumblr in general.
So what will likely be found there? Art - wip, doodles, and I may also post finished pieces there as well given it's pretty easy. Observations, thoughts I find interesting, whatever little projects I'm working on. I'm not one tweet about everything just those things that I feel like telling someone, but don't have anyone in particular to tell it too. I guess it'll be NSFW, though I feel kind of weird using twitter for that, but I guess that's just because I've only seen the sfw side of twitter for the past 7 years.
So yeah, feel free to follow or not. I'm not really sure what interest there is, but I'm curious to see where it leads.

Thoughts on artwork resolutions?
Posted 8 years agoA journal Dradmon posted brought the question to mind. I typically withhold my full resolution artwork opting for whatever I feel is a good enough size to appreciate the piece. My reasons for doing so include previous complaints about how large images don't work well on the classic site, not everything looks great up close, and having the option to sell access to larger files in some way at some point in the future - something I haven't really thought much about at this point.
So what I would like to know is if the size I currently provide feels too small? Good enough? I'm open to adjusting the resolutions I provide. For reference I've been working at 3,000+ pixels for a while. Occasionally 4,000 since I upgraded some hardware. Then typically downscaling to 1,300-1600px.

A year older
Posted 8 years ago21 was nice, 22 is... the same. Though still with the bonus of gifts, I celebrated a day early since family was around for thanksgiving. My parents were cool and got me a nice multitool as well as a battery backup for my pc. :>
I also treated myself to a gift of my own... mostly because I had been eyeballing it and hadn't seen it cheaper until now. https://www.razerzone.com/Gaming-Ke.....-01440200-R3M1 I'm looking forward to using it in photoshop, other applications, and whatever else I can come up with. More versatile and hopefully more comfortable than the buttons on my intuos and more accessible than my keyboard.

Power is back on!
Posted 8 years agoAfter about 2.5 days the power is back on, so yay! I look forward to getting back to work, I've got to say no electricity can be pretttty boring. If you didn't catch why it was out see https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/8486696/
Power outage
Posted 8 years agoHi, posting from the local McDonald's since I don't have power. A storm blew through last night and took down a bunch of power lines. In particular one of the poles running power to my house is currently hanging across the road. Power company estimates power will be restored by the 8th, so I may be out of touch for a couple days. Hopefully it comes back on sooner, I won't be able to do any digital work or post anything until then.
Improvements?
Posted 8 years agoSo I was just going back through my old art and I realized it's been long enough since I've worked or even looked at them that I can see them as I would any other artists work. Like I genuinely like some of my art, not just "I think it came out okay" I can also see what I'm doing better now, but also what I might be missing in my current works. With that thought I realize I rely way more on line work then I did in the past and I feel like I've lost some of the painterly quality my older art from 1-2 years ago had. Really it's almost like a whole different style, but I kind of dig parts of it. I feel like my shading gave characters a good sense of form, I feel like that's gotten a little muddier. I've been using some more bristly brushes for a while now and I'm not really sure entirely like the look. Rendering aside I know I've definitely improved with anatomy and the like, no complaints there.
Anyways, rambling thoughts aside does anyone see anything in particular in my work I can improve on or change, something that stands out? It can be good to have another perspective and I'm always working to improve. ^^

And I'm back
Posted 8 years agoBack from Grayling! I got to say the northern Michigan wilderness is really beautiful. I think there may be some backgrounds in my paintings inspired by it. Saw lots of deer, got some pictures, found some rocks. Overall quite nice, but I'm happy to be back in my computer chair. Let the art resume.
Away until Friday
Posted 8 years agoI mean it's not abnormal for 3 days of inactivity from me, but I won't be checking notes either. I'll be going on a little trip to Grayling Michigan with some family. After that back to my regular routine.
I'm also participating in inktober over on my sfw account

Pen went kaput
Posted 8 years agoDuring stream I pressed down with the eraser and the pen decided to pop apart. quickly the tiny eraser spring was lost in the shag carpet. I tried to put it back together, but it simply wouldn't go back into its housing. I may have tried a little tooo hard and now it's totally dead. No digital art until I get a replacement which vawkis has so generously provided, those intuos 5 pens aren't that cheap. Should be middle of next week. until then I guess I'll stick to paper.
Vore day - throw me some ideas
Posted 8 years agoI kind of plan on just sketching vore stuff all day. Feel free to suggest anything, I may or may not do peoples OCs.... Really depends how much I like the character. If the idea is good know that I may substitute them with something else. I miiiight do a traditional stream later as well.
Edit: and to be clear it's 2:30am here, so i'm going to be drawing for maybe an hour before heading to bed. Then I'll pick back up when I awake.
EDIT: Aaaand the day is over. I did draw a lot, but I didn't really finishing anything. I might have some scraps to post up later. I may keep some of the ideas posted for later though. :)

Note To Self
Posted 8 years agoForcing yourself to draw with a lack of mental clarity results in unreasonable frustration and everything looking like bad. I want to draw, but I just can’t concentrate. Solution? Not sure... I can muddle through with frequent breaks like every 10-15 minutes, but it’s not very efficient. I guess I might experiment with meditation again. :T
This is the kind of thing that stops me from seriously considering art as a career path. The reason I was taking that medication before, which did work for a while, but became troublesome...
Edit: actually just came across a meditation post on the adhd subreddit, so I gave it a go. After 7 minutes of staring at a wooden horse head while focusing on my breath I'm feeling a little better, I'll have to try longer next time. Might clear a space in my room for meditation... and an area to hang some artwork I've collected which would be excellent to stare at. :p

blehhhh
Posted 8 years agowell... the last couple days... weeks? Have been unpleasant. My adhd medication(stattera) had been kind of pooping out and the side effects started to outweigh any benefits after taking it for 1.5 years, So 2 days ago I stopped taking it. Now the drug manufacturer claims there aren’t any withdrawal symtoms. Can’t say that for me, but I’m also not surprised given the nature of the drug. Been feeling overall pretty crappy, light headedness and shakiness comes and goes. Not sure if messed up brain chemistry or what, but somehow Night on the Sun by modest mouse brought tears to my eyes, don't recall music having that effect on me... It's a great song though. :p
Hopefully I start feeling better the next couple days. I had already planned to take this week off to work on personal stuff, so we'll see if I actually get to do any of that, though I have 1 commission to finish up before that. Adhd is a bitch. Going to see if I can function without medication for now, but if that fails miserably on to stimulants. :T
So yeah, if things might seem slow around here that's why. Otherwise I'd happily draw eveeerrry day. I'd be curious to see how working art full time would pan out if setting up work hours was possible.
Edit 6/21/17 - Not 100%, but Feeling a lot better, actually got some work done. Hopefully that trend continues. :)

Yo I'm on inkbunny now
Posted 8 years agohttps://inkbunny.net/Difetra
just finished uploading my gallery. I don't know if I would have done it without https://fa2ib.welcomefur.net
It was the most common suggestion and based what I thought would work best as second active gallery. Now if something happens to FA, as it's always bound to happen, I won't be completely cut off. I'm also on FurryNetwork, but i'm still kind of waiting to see how that pans out. Also since Inkbunny has a bit of a reputation for cub art I'll just say that I won't be drawing it.

Some questions for y'all
Posted 8 years ago1. Streaming - What are your thoughts on using a mic to chat? Do you like it when streamers talk or do you prefer text communication? I don't mind either, but the mic does have the advantage of being hands free. The drawbacks I see are the requirement to have stream audio enabled to communicate and I've noticed at times the stream can lag behind a bit from real time which could make communication a little weird.
2. Any other places I should post? Whether it's some place you prefer over FA or think would be good to keep a gallery with my content. I've been wanting to use FurryNetwork as a second gallery, but it has some work to be done before I'll start posting regularly. I sort of use tumblr for WIP stuff, but It doesn't really seem fit for a gallery. Resolution restrictions and I don't know how you'd keep up with anything on there anyways if you follow enough people... scrolling for days.
3. I guess while I'm asking questions. In regards to art, anything in particular you'd like to see from me?
Also getting close to 1,000 watchers which is pretty cool. I feel like I should do something for all you wonderful people when I get there. :)

A Conundrum
Posted 9 years agoI've been thinking about a problem that has plagued me since I started posting art here... As of now I live with my parents and I don't think the content I draw here would go over well with them. Some things might be fine, probably most sfw art, but I don't think vore, stuffing, and inflation would make much sense to them and undoubtedly awkward to explain. I really not sure what their reaction would be. That said I rather not face that, but I have considered it.
Now normally I wouldn't have a reason to say anything, but I don't exactly have a job (I work with my dad every now and then), so what I spend my time doing is of some concern to my parents. Namely that I'm doing something productive, learning skills for a career. For me that's art. I also used to split my time with programming( mostly web stuff and games), but my focus has shifted towards art. Anyways... The problem that has arisen is the amount of time spent producing art on this account which I have nothing to show for. More than half of what I draw exists here. Obviously I enjoy drawing what I do, but doing so makes things difficult.
Now If I were taking commissions on a regular basis and making money I'd definitely have to tell them something. I can't have a proper work schedule if it's secret. One thing I had hoped to have done was build up my following on my regular account, so I could take some commissions there which could cover for my work here as I don't have to show my parents everything I do, but that hasn't quite worked out. My following is quite a bit smaller there relative to here. Probably not enough to garner much interest in commissions. I can speculate a variety of reasons - I don't post quite as frequently, my art is conceptually bland, and my skills aren't spectacular enough to draw interest for rendering alone. Honestly I find myself much more inspired when drawing the weird stuff I draw here and I'd say my best work is here. Drawing 'weird stuff' does have it's advantages though. It's far easier to draw attention to your artwork and stick out because of niches. Within a niche you have a sub-community who is probably more motivated to seek out art of their interests and offer an area with less 'noise' when it comes to art. I also find that the quality threshold for what is considered likable a good bit lower than with most art. I even find myself favoriting pieces I normally wouldn't if it features one of my interests. Ah, so I've gone on a tangent.
My options are:
A. Show parents some of what I draw here - hope for the best. If that goes over well I could easily take commissions. - Part of me dreads this.
B. Continue secretly, roughly splitting my efforts between 2 accounts, taking the odd commission. - I don't think this is sustainable.
C. Pull back from this account until I can get things going on my other account. I'd still post, just less frequently. - If I can get enough commission work I can more easily return to splitting my work.
D. An unknown opportunity arises, I can move out and draw whatever. - that's not how life works.
I'd be happy to just draw whatever I want when I want, but money seems to be an important thing and I can't remain jobless forever nor live at home forever. I've been avoiding working for an employer for a while hoping I could freelance or do something entrepreneurial. I still hope that's possible. I just have to work at it... Hm, that felt nice to write out, kind of helped me think things out. I guess I'll post this so anyone interested knows what's up. Any advice wouldn't hurt either.
Okay it's 5:30am I really should go to bed. .-.

I have a website now. :O

I wanted something to host projects and artwork on. Also maybe for my own entertainment since web dev is fun... and frustrating.
So yeah, nothing on it yet. Just threw together a quick landing page so it's not a white page.

500 watchers - thank you
Posted 9 years ago500 seems like a nice little milestone. I just wanted to thank everyone since I'm not one to leave shouts on everyone's page. It's always exciting when I post something and see what kind of response it receives. A whole lot better than just drawing for myself. I shall continue filling odd niches with my art. :D
Oh and the lucky #500 is Veronacus . If you read this journal I could draw something for you... if you'd like.

What would you like to see?
Posted 9 years agoI've drawn a variety of things: inflation, vore, stuffing, unconventional means of rounding out the abdomen, a little bit of pony porn. I'm sure people watch me for different reasons, so I'm curious to hear what everyone's interested in, or maybe it doesn't matter to you. I'll still draw whatever I'm interested in, but when I don't have anything in mind I may choose a more popular subject among my watchers depending on the response.
A Gaaaaame
Posted 10 years agoI've had this idea for a game for the last few months. It's pretty much an open world game of fetishes and stuff. :p
I've been assembling ideas on Trello and have opened it up for viewing and commenting (if you have an account). You can view everything here: https://trello.com/b/AUTRN6Sf/fetish-game
Nothing set in stone, but it's definitely a fun project to think about. I guess I should also note that programming is a hobby of mine, so i've got that covered.... 3D modeling on the other hand, not so much. I have a liiiitle experience in Blender and scultpris, but I've got a lot to learn.
Now unfortunately I don't really have the time to work on it right now... Well I do, but as someone who is trying to be self employed and living with parents I can't really use my time working on something I can't show them (they don't need to know about this stuff :p)... which is partially why I don't post as much as I'd like to.
Once I start getting somewhere with free lance work (or something) I should be able to better allot time to other projects like this. As it is I'm an unorganized mess when it comes to managing my time and tasks, so I guess getting that in order is a good first step.
Too quiet?
Posted 10 years agoyeah, I've been a little less active, but I haven't gone anywhere. Just focusing on other work.
I do have a little comic I've been working covering the subject of vore, something I've yet to draw. It's taking a little while because I'm rendering at the same quality as my last few pictures (probably a little better), but it'll get done within the month I'd say since I'm not working on it all the time. In the mean time I might complete a couple requests in pencil, my favorite medium which I apparently don't upload much of here.
