Updates are for losers.
Posted 11 years agoSeriously, why should I update more than once every 5 years? It's not like I moved to another state, changed fursonas, went to college, learned to code, joined the dev team on another site, graduated valedictorian, left the dev team on another site, started my own site, moved to another another state, found Jesus, got a job, and then went back to college.
That would be ridiculous.
That would be ridiculous.
The Next Dimension
Posted 17 years agoI noticed quite a while ago that there is a significant lack of decent 3D anthro models. Actually, until recently there were almost no furry models at all - and the ones in existence sucked. Seriously, some people should not be given access to a 3D program until signing a do-not-post agreement or something. Come on, grab an anatomy book, or a photo ref, or something! Your model looks like crap, don't act like it's Hollywood quality! I've been 3D modelling for years, and I just recently got to the point where I feel I can show my work. I've modelled my character's head 7 times since 3D Studio MAX 3, and not one has been decent enough to show publicly. A lot of that is lack of texture and animation ability... But, I digress.
You see, now we have SecondLife. I am fairly impressed with these models. I will say, something about them just doesn't look right... But the form is there. The proportions are right (excluding certain fetish models). It's low-poly, and there's usually something gone awry with the smoothing, but I'll be damned if that isn't a good start.
There are exceptions to this, however. Good exceptions. On a few rare and wonderful occasions, I've seen SL models with higher poly counts, better textures, and that don't even have smoothing issues. One I saw actually looked like a drawing. It's a lot like what I've been trying to achieve, only with significantly fewer polygons. (I won't even try to make a SecondLife model, your graphics card would melt.)
And the question is... Why SecondLife? Some artists I've seen are clearly capable of so much more. I'm talking full CG here, with a raytracing renderer, special effects out the ass, and some real animation. All it'd take is some extra polygons, smooth out those edges. I've got three different hair and fur plugins for 3D Studio that are just waiting to make a furry look real. I assure you, it can be done.
Someone should actually attempt this. Besides myself, I mean. I'm going to be pissed off if I'm the first to actually do it. Then again, I'd be pretty damn pleased at the same time...

I can't enjoy my sandwich...
Posted 18 years ago... Because there's no rye bread. And no, I'm not kidding, wheat doesn't go with lunch meats.
But seriously, it's time I asked, what the fuck?!
I saw an part of an article on Encyclopedia Dramatica. Apparently, someone got banned, and then people started either mocking the responsible admin's icon, drawing things involving sandwiches, or sometimes both at once.
But now, it's clearly past that. The message of mocking the admin is long gone (and probably was after about 3 minutes). Now, with no message or guidance, the fad is simply to be unable to enjoy eating a sandwich, or in many cases now, eating something else.
As soon as FA came back online, half of the recent submissions had something to do with the inability to enjoy eating a sandwich (or something). As I type this, even the FA banner has jumped on the bandwagon.
Personally, I find it amusing. I don't think it should stop, it makes me laugh; I'm easily amused. But that ED article wasn't very detailed, and it's bugging the hell out of me that I don't know more about this!
