One step froward two steps back
Posted 6 years agoSo I just realized February got away from me.
Part of the reason I don't like setting New Year's resolutions is because it is so easy to fall into the trap of setting your goals too high. I fell into that trap. If I were a wiser person I would have aimed for something more reasonable like 24 stories across the year.
I also had an ulterior motive for wanting to write more supershort stories, and little pieces like that... I ran into a roadblock with my longer story before the new year, so I wanted to write silly little things to try and clear up my writer's block... It worked... sort of. Because now I've got more material for that story, but have been having trouble writing the smaller ones.
I'll post as I go, but at least I'm doing better with the journal entries (maybe?)

Happy New Years!
Posted 7 years agoMy previous journal entry was written not long after I had graduated from college. I was establishing myself at my job, and unfortunately that left little time for creative expression. Combined with other life events and a failed attempt to expand into other social media, I was pulled away from FA. I'm sorry I did that to myself, because this has been the best online community I've ever been a part of.
Now... I have started a larger writing project and plan on returning to FA to stay. Additionally, although I sneer at the tradition, I have made myself a new year's resolution: I am going to submit 52 stories to FA this year. They will most likely be super-short ( less than 2000 words each ), PLUS my bigger project once I'm happy with it ( this is much MUCH longer). And I plan on 12 journals, that's once a month ( counting this one ).
I have made the time, and I know that at the very least having this goal will make me a happier person. Honestly I don't know if I can... but I do have the will.

Posted 10 years agoBeen working a couple of years at my new job, haven't had any good time to catch up with all you good people. I end up sleeping a lot when I'm home, or decompressing with a good game. I really do want to come back fully, but that will have to wait for a while longer.

Posted 10 years agoOkay... I know I don't have a lot of followers, but I would like to issue a challenge. Share this with all the artists you know.
Gene Roddenberry's birthday is on the 19th of August. For those who don't know Roddenberry is the man who created the Star Trek franchise. Behind the scenes he was given the nickname the "Great Bird of the Galaxy".
Within the Star Trek universe there is a dieity known as the "Great bird of the Galaxy". http://en.memory-alpha.wikia.com/wâ....._of_the_Galaxy
The challenge I wish to issue is this:
There is very little artwork of what the great bird would look like. Please design your own Great Bird to share on whatever site you wish. Let's wish Roddenberry a happy birthday by showing the internet what an inspiration he was!

General message
Posted 11 years agoWow... I'm now listed as a writer on the FA Writer's directory... cool.
Unfortunately I am slow to post recently. I do welcome all new visitors, regardless of how you find me, and I will work harder on posting new stuff... so don't worry, I haven't gone anywhere. I'm just not as active as I once was.
And most of my journal entries end up this verbose, too... so ... yeah.
Enjoy?

Posted 14 years agoLate Merry Christmas to everyone
Late Happy New year, too.
I haven't been slacking off ... much. I had my own pet projects keeping me company as my life kinda got a little hectic.
The meat of the story is thus:
I am moving.
As a result things are getting lost in the mix.
And before you whine, I mean EVERYTHING is getting lost. I swear I even misplaced my own head once or twice.
I shall return, but for now... I feel like leaving something a little nicer than "American Sorrow"
Have a confession.

BACK!
Posted 14 years agoOkay, I will admit it... I had problems keeping up with my summer classes. But I am done with that and almost done with my CIS (Computer Information Systems) degree. I feel guilty for having missed so many Thursday Prompts, especially since poetigress is bringing them to a close. I may end up running my own flavor of weekly prompts, just to keep up practicing, but that will wait for now.
Also: I've been thinking of rewriting my profile, but have no ideas for what kind of information to include. So, to all (5) of my watchers I ask: what do you think I should put?

Nice guys STILL finish last
Posted 14 years agoI normally don't to Memes, but I saw this on
bainebladetank's journal and couldn't help myself. Besides I really like this.
♥To every guy that said, "Sex can wait"
♥To every guy that said, "You're beautiful"
♥To every guy that was never too busy to drive across town to see her
♥To every guy that gives her flowers and a card when she is sick or down.
♥To every guy who has given her flowers just because thats how he rolls
♥To every guy that said he would die for her.
♥To every guy that really would.
♥To every guy that did what she wanted to die for
♥To every guy that cried in front of her...
♥To every guy that she cried in front of...
♥To every guy that holds hands with her.
♥To every guy that kisses her with meaning.
♥To every guy that hugs her when she's sad.
♥To every guy that hugs her for no reason at all.
♥To every guy who would give their jacket up for her.
♥To every guy that calls to make sure she got home safe.
♥To every guy that would sit and wait for her for hours just to
see her for ten minutes.
♥To every guy that would give his seat up..
♥To every guy that just wants to cuddle.
♥To every guy that reassured her that she was beautiful no matter what.
♥To every guy who told his secrets to her.
♥To every guy that showed how much he cared through every word and every breath.
♥To every guy that thought maybe this could be the one.
♥To every guy that believed in her dreams.
♥To every guy that would have done anything so she could achieve them
♥To every guy that never laughed at her when she told him her dreams.
♥To every guy that walked her to her car and opened the door
♥To every guy that gave his heart.
♥To every guy who prays that she is happy even if you are not with her.
Not many girls appreciate nice guys anymore...
And because of this, there are not many left out there...
I guarantee 90% of the men on your page will not repost this cuz they care more about their image

Relaxing Weekend
Posted 14 years agoAlbuquerque Comic Expo!
A major comic expo in my town? I'm there! Don't wait up for me! Gonna GEEK all weekend.
For anyone interested Stellar Odyssey is up now. I'm considering revising it, but that's up to the audience.
Good night, and good huntin'.
P.S. Comment here if you want me to upload some pictures

OVERWORK'D
Posted 14 years agoUmm... Yeah... I Should not have signed up for two DRASTICALLY different writing classes during the summer session. First of all, since the summer classes are abbreviated, they give more homework over a shorter period of time. Second, I DO NOT write fast... I have a typing speed of approaching that of 90 wpm (That's about 1.5 words per second when I really get going.), but I do not WRITE fast. I type out a couple of words, stop to think about what I've written... stop to research something related ... re-write something stupid ... go back and re-word something, and generally take my time.
So keeping up with homework has had the unfortunate side effect of KILLING all my personal writing. I kinda feel bad about not doing poetigress's Thursday Prompts, especially since she has announced that they are ending.
I have finished "Stellar Odyssey" ... and will post it soon.
On a related note: I don't have an icon for the piece, I would like to commission someone to help me design Torynn's ship, but I don't know who.
I am also working on another longer piece which will -Hopefully- be ready in a couple of months. Again it will be posted here when done.
And I think that about does it for the longest journal I've ever written.

Back in Classes
Posted 14 years agoAdmittedly, I get spacy when I don't have anything to do...
So now that I'm in summer classes it feels like my life has structure once again. However I'm signed up for a couple of courses that will demand a lot of time, patience and writing from me. While I don't plan on it, there is a chance that some of my recreational writing may suffer.
Hope everyone's having a great summer so far, and that it continues being great!

HAPPY CINCO!
Posted 14 years agoAfter taking a break from poetigres's Tursday Prompts for finals (and a little bit of brain burnout), I return with some exciting news. As I was messing around re-organizing the inner workings of my computer's file system (yes, I do that), I stumbled across an interesting little document. I found a stray backup of "Stellar Odessy" that had escaped deletion. I'm unsure if I can give it full justice anymore, but that's not gonna stop me from trying. Besides, I love this intro too much to give up on it.
Hope everyone had a happy and safe Cinco De Mayo, and I'll be back here by next Thursday (At the latest).

Um... Oops?
Posted 14 years agoActually what I would like to say would be a long string of obcenities... after all the one language all programmers are fluent in is profanity.
Had a virus... No it didn't corrupt anything... and it was "Fixed" within 24 hours.
But it snuck onto my flashdrives and followed me to class. It was contained, after I backed up almost all the important information on my drives an reformatted them.
The key word here is: "ALMOST"
Ever hear the geek's saying: "Blessed are the pessimists, for they have backups" ?
I missed one foldier of important files... and lost all the writings I was working on.
When I realized this I thought "Eh, I've got it all written down in my notebook, right?"
WRONG
As a result of this... "Stellar Odyessy" (The seqel to Spacefaring) will be (at best) delayed... indefinitely.
My apologies.
Even if I do re-write it, 90% of the introductory joke has been lost (and I was SO proud of it) so I may just skip to the main story.

BACK
Posted 14 years agoI'm feeling much more... well... I guess the word would be "centered." Life is retuning to "normal" or at least as normal as it can be any more. I had some writer's block, bit that's cleared up now. So I'm getting back to my writings.
A stiff upper lip
Posted 14 years ago... because that is all I know to do.
Back... -ish
Posted 14 years agoYes, I vanished from FA for about a week (not that anyone noticed). I didn't even work on the Thursday Prompt, and I have no intention of "catching up". I will resume with the very next prompt.
The reason for my absence is sad. Even now it is difficult to bring myself to write, especially about this.
My grandmother passed away Friday, March 11. She was a wonderful person, and will be missed dearly. She went into the hospital on Tuesday, was moved into hospice on Wednesday and passed away quietly in her sleep on Friday.
I am putting on a strong face, and doing my best to cope with the loss of such a close relative, but don't expect me to be at 100% for a while.
(I have to stop writing about this)
In other news...
The economy sucks, but if you've got some extra dollars to spare you may want to consider buying a commission.
If that's the case:
racheavenger Is a very gifted artist.
She deserves the support, and I am completely happy with the work she did for me.

New classes and new projects
Posted 15 years agoScraping together some semblance of a "team" and starting to write apps. Windows or Android (Wouldn't mind taking suggestions or requests).
Also planning on participating in more creative pursuits. Gonna try my hand at writing some thursday prompts.

Destination Christmas
Posted 15 years agoI'm kinda excited, my extended family invited me to Long Beach, CA for Christmas. The only downside is that I'll be practically out of contact with friends and family during this time. But it's family, right?
(Also... I didn't have any better reason to update my journal)

The road to hell is paved with good intentions
Posted 15 years agoYeah... the sport I'm best at is putting my foot in my mouth.
And I just need to get it out... I don't mean to be a jerk, I'm just an idiot.
I always try to do right, and how oft it goes wrong
I'm lonely and want to make friends
The more I learn the less I feel like I know
And I will end my laments here

Posted 15 years agoProlly gonna update more often now... (Yeah... more often than once a year) and not gonna be as conservative about my favorites. Most of my friends know me well enough anymore to not be surprised. And soon I will get you -ALL- of Mammal War (that has been written so far) + Gonna try and finish up a rewrite.
Um... Wow?
Posted 17 years agoHaven't updated this in forever.
If you haven't guessed I did get Fallout 3, and am really enjoying it.
I've been writing a story about a race that have evolved from (JP) Velociraptors and have been considering on posting it here. I could also use a little extra inspiration as I've kinda hit a wall in the story writing process.

FALLOUT 3
Posted 18 years agoI'm excited, Bethsoft has announced that Fallout 3 is due to come out Fall of 08... and it looks sweet!
I have played and enjoyed Fallout & Fallout 2... So I can't wait
I've also submitted a piece of art that's about a year old...
And am trying to come up with a sprite-flash animation, but it's harder then it looks
