DONE!!!!!
Posted 14 years agoWootz.
Turned in my last paper last night (3 AM, why do I procrastinate? POR QUE?!?!?!?!?!?) and now all I have is a multivariate final, but to quote my professor, "I'm only giving you this final because the university says I have to, so it will be an open notes, multiple-choice test that will probably take you about fifteen minutes," which means I'm going to graduate for sure with my distinction status intact, and I"m celebrating with a large, run-on sentence.
Time for sleeeeeeeep.....

Still Alive
Posted 14 years ago....barely. Major apologies to everyone for not being more available online, but hopefully that will be ending very, very soon. Today was the last day of classes (forever?), and now all I have between me and the real world is a week of finals. Woohoo!!!!
The finals aren't all that worrisome. Sure, a couple will be difficult *coughbiostats*, but I've been through this whole routine 7 times already, so I've got a pretty good handle on what to expect. Mostly, it's these last few papers that are killing me. I'm just having trouble making myself care about what amounts to a pumped up 3rd grade country report (yes, there is a question about chief exports).
In other news, though,
donovan is coming up this weekend, so that's a definite plus, and something that's been keeping going throughout the week. =^w^=
One week left, and then it's graduation. Hard to believe. Look for something gushing and saccharine over the next few days. XD

LOL Fursuits
Posted 14 years agoI give campus tours at my university on Thursday mornings. Today, however, is an admitted student day, so I didn't think I'd have to do anything. Little did I know...
I walked into the welcome center to check in, and I hear Brian, and admissions guy, say in a sneaky voice, "There he is." My immediate thought was "Eff. I don't want to give a tour today." But that's not what he wanted. After I walked up to him, he immediately told me more than asked, "Do you want to be Pounce [campus mascot] today?"
Then I was like, lol furries. I said yes, of course, since I've done it plenty before, and so I got to spend an hour or so this morning taking pictures with students that are coming here next year. I'll be graduated, but someone will fill in the paws for me.
It was fun applying a few things I learned at a Snowpocalypse fursuiting panel. Like
Aerak said, you shouldn't go more than 15 seconds without doing something. Admittedly, I borrowed a few moves from him that I thought looked fantastic, and overall the students seemed to enjoy interacting. I got a few people that thought I was a creeper, but the vast majority wanted to say hello and snap a photo.
Might post pictures later. We'll see.

SPRING BREAK!!!!!

..buh? Huh? GAH!!!!
It's over! Midterms are finally over!!!! Yaaaaay.... @w@
Jeez, this week nearly killed me. I need to take a break, but sadly I've still got my senior project to worry about. I like African political theory, and it will be nice to get to work on it at my own pace for a while. Still, though, I'm feeling the burnout something harsh.
It's all middle class America problems, though. I try to keep everything in perspective, and I'm very happy with my life overall. Still, though, sometimes it all just piles up.
*hugs* Take care, all! I wish you a happy weekend. For me, it's off to Snowpacolypse!

And a quick clarification: While I've answered everything as truthfully as I can, I'm bi, so I don't know if you can really consider this test as a whole completely "honest." Still a fun little exercise, though. Feel free to do it yourself!
1.Do you sleep naked?
All the time, if I can help it.
2. Do you sleep with socks on?
I've done it a lot before, especially on cold nights. Socks make me feel sexy. X3
3. Would you rather sleep alone or with someone else?
Someone else, assuming I'm in a relationship or good friends. If it's an unknown creeper, then I'll stay with a lonely bed, thanks. : P
4. Do you enjoy drama?
I've loved theater since I was a kid! Oh, you mean interpersonal stuff? Well, I don't like pointless bickering, but I feel everyone should be allowed to speak their feelings without worry about being labeled a drama king/queen.
5. Are you a manly man?
I'm more feminine by cultural norms, but I've certainly got more than a few masculine streaks.
6. Who was the last person you hugged?
My friend and coworker Becca.
7. Small or large package?
Average, and I'm more than happy with it.
8. Are you short?
5'10", 11" on a good day.
9. Do you like somebody?
They know who they are. :3
10.Does your Facebook password have to do with a girl?
Nope.
11. Do you care if your socks are dirty?
I try to maintain a clean pair, but it's not the end of the world. Ideally, I'm just going barefoot. :D
12. Do you think you’re conceited?
I don't think so. I'm often humbled by the amazing people I meet and the amazing things they do.
13. Do you dress up on Halloween?
Of course! It's my favorite holiday!
14. Are you double jointed?
Nope
15. Where is the weirdest place you have slept?
Probably outside in the middle of MN November to raise awareness and money for the homeless shelter in our town.
16. Has anyone touched/smacked your butt in the past 24 hours?
Not today.
17. Is there any type of rumour going around about you?
I'm sure there are a couple, but they won't get me down.
18. Do you call anybody by their last name?
A few guys.
19. How many girls will read this just because it says "Boy Confessions"?
Hopefully a few.

I.... don't know. It's probably a pretty even split.

15. What are your biggest fears?
My biggest fear is that what I do won't matter, that I won't be able to give enough back to the world.
16. Have you ever cried yourself to sleep?
A couple times. Not pleasant memories, but you've just got to let it all out sometimes.
17. Have you ever not been able to get someone off of your mind?
....a lot lately, actually.
18. Do you believe in the saying “once a cheater, always a cheater?"
Heck no. I've seen people turn themselves around.
19. Have you ever had a good feeling about something?
Yes, and now my challenge is trusting my gut as much as I trust my brain.
20. Do you ever wish you were famous?
Yes, but I only want to be famous for accomplishing something important.
21. Are you currently missing someone?
Yes.

Crying Grandmas
Posted 14 years agoThat's my goal: make the grannies in the audience shed a tear.
This semester has been my first chance to choreograph for Dance Ensemble (I'm a dancer in case you haven't been paying attention to my gallery). I've wanted to do it for a while, and over winter break I finally got an idea that I felt I could run with. It stewed for a while, and the board said they loved the idea when I proposed it.
It was originally intended to be an intermediate level dance, but I was assigned several beginner dancers, a few of them first-timers, even. Turns out it's okay, though. They're doing SUPER well adjusting to everything, and we're actually a little bit ahead of schedule. I KNOW, RIGHT???? I had to cut a few thing back, but the general idea is still there. I know I'm being a little shy on the details, but I think I might post it for all (forty or so of you) to see when the time comes around. Here's hoping. :3
The song is a cut version of "Life in Technicolor II" by Coldplay, and it's by far the saddest thing I've ever created as an artist. It's going to be SPECTACULAR!!!

WolfPupTK, one of the best examples of a furry that I've ever come across, is doing his best to help support the Red Cross.
They are a marvelous organization that is constantly helping. If you can, I implore you to donate a little cash to a group that will use your donation to save lives. If not, look up your local red cross station at http://www.redcross.org/ or keep an eye out for bloodmobile location. Donations generally take less than an hour and can save several lives.
Again, please do all that you can for this organization. Your help works miracles.

Have I told you how much of a stats nerd I am?
Posted 14 years agoJooooin Uuuussssssss~~~~~
lol, seriously, statistics is an amazing field of study. It can take a huge amount of data and compress it in a way that we can easily wrap our heads around. It can find out what's really going on with a given problem and make recommendations. It can freakin' PREDICT THE FUTURE!!!!!
I just got done with my biostats homework, which was to make recommendations to an alfalfa farmer about how best to increase his yield. Turns out the best thing to do was harvest three times, allowing the third harvest to be as late as possible to rejuvenate the soil. "But which type of alfalfa should I be planting?" Doesn't matter in terms of yield. The average yields for the three types weren't all the same among the data that we were given, but there was no statistically significant difference between the amount of alfalfa that was grown of each type. And, of course, the method of analysis helps correct for things like different kind of soil or whether patterns in different places (split-plot analysis, in case you care).
And that's how that went down. I love stats. =^w^=

Question Journal!
Posted 15 years agoNot expecting to get any, but I'll answer anything (gotta bump the last journal, in any case).
Few people are man/woman enough to openly answer any and all questions thrown at them. Are you? Prove it. Copy/Paste this as a new journal entry and answer every question you get.
The rules are simple:
-You must answer every question you get no matter what it's about and you must do so honestly.
-There are no questions that can not be asked as long as they are within the rules of FA. They can be personal, about OCs, drama inducing, and every thing in between.

A Valentine's Poem (that I wrote in 2 minutes)
Posted 15 years ago(NSFW...ish...kinda)
*Ahem*
B is for boy, which I am at heart,
I is for I love you, where our relationship starts,
G is for the good time that I'll show you,
C is for crazy, coo-coo-kachoo!
O is for "Ooooh~" in the middle of the night,
C is for "Can't wait to turn out the light"
K is for my knack at giving you a booster,
As you can tell, I have a large rooster.
A friend was helping run a Valentine's event for their student group, and needed me to make a humorous poem in 2 minutes. So this is what you get. Happy V Day!

Life as an RA (Rant)
Posted 15 years agoFirst off, it's a pretty good gig, all things considered, but there are some serious drawbacks that have been getting to me lately:
|||||||||||||||||||| You live and work in the same place ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
There is no separation between your various lives, and you are basically always on the job. I've got about 30 residents, and while ten or twenty minutes of help might not seem like much for a single resident, it really adds up quickly. There's also a certain amount of perkiness required to be warm and welcoming enough that they can actually approach you with their concerns. If it's a bad day, you sometimes just have to fake it, lest it create more drama on the floor. You are constantly living in a fishbowl, which brings us to....
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| Privacy? LOL!!!!! ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Since I live in a room meant for 2 people, I have two beds. The thing about 2 long twin beds pushed together is that they form a king-sized bed (if you put a little padding between the mattresses). Now, as a young twenty-something, I can think of about a thousand things I'd love to be able to do on that giant bed, some things with others and some without (like napping). However, when I'm in the room, I have to assume I'm open for business, especially since all the residents will. I try to maintain an open-door policy, but when I really need to have the door closed for something like working on a final paper or talking with a resident that needs help, I can generally count on my messages being ignored and hearing a knock and some whining if I don't answer it right away. That's IF they knock and don't just come on in, which has led me to lock my door on a few different occasions.
|||||||||||||||||| School, Social Life, Job: Pick Two ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Balance is always an issue when you are working your way through college, but it can be tough when you've got so many people to answer to and take care of. I think I do a pretty good job of balancing most of the time, though. I've realized that this job will swallow your soul unless you get out and let loose once in a while. I haven't been out of my college town since the start of school almost a month ago, and this will be my third consecutive weekend on call. Luckily, the Jazz band I'm in is heading to Chicago for a few days of fun.
That's about all I have for now, since I've got to get to class. If you're in a dorm, please be nice to your RA. We work hard, I promise.

MPA/MBA programs
Posted 15 years agoAnyone know anything about MPA or MBA programs? I'm looking to get a join degree after I take a year off to do Americorps, and so far I'm looking at Syracuse, U of Georgia, and Harvard as my top 3.
Stab in the dark, but I figured I'd give it a shot. : 3

This is a good TED talk and commentary on our time. What really struck me is the comment about people congregating around interests and not around age groups. The more time I spend online, the more I realize that the group of people I meet on sites like FA aren't my same age. In real life, all my close friends are college or grad school age, like me, but in a space like the internet where you can reinvent yourself and be more open about different aspects of your life, you end up tripping over quite a large number of people from myriad groups. And once that happens, you begin to see the group labels themselves break down and can pay more attention to the individual.

The Meaninglessness of Our Existence
Posted 15 years agoNot sure why, but this concept popped into my head just now.
I've heard a couple times from a couple different people about how nothing we do in our lives has any meaning in the context of the greater universe. No matter what we do, no matter how great a life we lead, it will all be gone in a few billion years; Such a time is naught but a blink of an eye for the greater cosmos.
And I find comfort in that. There's nothing we can do that will affect the universe as a whole, so why worry about it? There are a lot of cool things out there, no doubt, but we can focus all our energies on the here and now, that little part of the universe that we have carved out for ourselves. Plus, if we screw up big time, we can always shift our frame of reference. : P
Random thoughts. I showed up for stats 20 minutes early (effing TTh schedules X3), and figured I'd update the ol' journal. Stay classy!
