Happy Thanksgiving! Also, big art upload coming in!
Posted 14 years agoHey everyone, happy thanksgiving! I hope that you have fun celebrating it in whatever way possible - be it with family, with friends, with your mate, pigging out on turkey, having a simple steak dinner, or even just taking the holiday to game or just do something fun by yourself. It doesn't matter how you do it, so long as it brings you good spirits, and you can remember what it means to be thankful for that opportunity. ^^ Or even if you have to work today, or tomorrow - that's not so bad, even though in the short term it's a downer. It'll be over before you know it, and you'll come out richer for it.
Also, for all you smart-ass Canadians out there who are going to say "hur hur our Thanksgiving was last month," I have something to say to you too. Happy belated Thanksgiving to you as well. :>
And for the Europeans that may not celebrate Thanksgiving, don't feel left out! I wish you all a good day, and that you're at least well and in good spirits. :)
I'm thankful for lots of things. My mate, friends now and past, my family, the opportunities and experiences I've had throughout life, the opportunities and experiences of the present day, and just for life in general. I've been given such wonderful gifts - both material and non-material, and I cherish each and every last one.

Also, sometime in the near future (today or tomorrow), I'm going to be doing a mass upload (around 8-10 files) of art I've commissioned to my gallery. About half of them will be two 3-part series, but there are some stand-alones too. Hope y'all don't mind - I know some people can be mighty funny about folks uploading lots of pictures at once. It'll all be good stuff though, at least. <3

Commissions are Open!
Posted 14 years agoHi everyone. :) After completing my first commission ever (so excited!! :D:D), I've deciding that I liked it. So I'm going to open for commissions. Mainly so I can make up for the fact that I just spent money to buy a game, and also that I want to buy a better power supply and graphics card for my desktop, but also so I can afford Christmas presents a bit more easily this year!
Here are my prices; please note that they're all for traditional art:
Sketch: $10
Inked: $15
Flat Color: $20
Shaded Color: $25
Ship the Original to you: $3
I love to draw: Obesity/fatfurs, pregnancy/pregfurs, blueberry furs, f/f
I will draw: Lots of other things!
I won't draw: Sonic/Spyro art, diapers, watersports, scat, Non G-rated cub art, humans (not ready for them yet)
I hope these terms are acceptable to everyone, and I look forward to doing business with you! ^__^

MFF's Theme for 2011
Posted 14 years agoIs like the coolest ever. @.@ Route 66 was a GREAT idea, especially since Chicago is the start of the original route! I really wish I could make it this year now. It really appeals to the biker in me, and I'd love to see how the staff and participants roll with it. Man. If MFF were at the start of the summer, and this was still their theme, and I followed up going to the convention with a trip down the remnants of the route (I know most of it's gone, but I'd get as close as possible) to the Southwest, that would be amazing. Especially if we could get a big riding group with some of the biker furs that went together.
I have lofty dreams. Not a lot of them come true. But I figure the ones that do come true will make it all worthwhile. :)

You're Being Watched
Posted 14 years agoNo shit. It should come as a surprise to absolutely nobody that FA tracks what you do on their private website. Do I like that fact? No. Do I think it's morally objectionable? Yes. But... isn't everybody else doing it? ...
Yes. Here are a few examples.
Google keeps a record of every search ever made with their search engine. This is how pop-up ads you come across seem to, about half the time, be about things you're actually into. For every ad about dental hygiene or tourism I've seen, I've seen an ad for Torrid or Musician's Friend. If you're so upset about FA knowing what you searched for, don't use Google either.
Your cell phone is a marked location of where you are at any given time. You know that fancy smart phone you have that can do 40,000 different things? It's also a miniature GPS transmitter. It communicates with satellites to tell where you are "in case of an emergency." It's how 911 works so well. Also, each time you download an app to your phone, that's logged. That way they know what types of apps people want, so business managers can plan their products accordingly. Don't like FA knowing where you are, don't own a cell phone, and if you do, don't get something that can download data.
Restaurants keep a running tally of what meals people get so they know what to keep on or take off the menu. They also keep track of who ordered the food. If you paid with your credit card, rest assured that they have your address and will be sending you offers to make you come back. Don't like FA seeing what sort of art you like? Don't eat out.
Grocery stores and "big box" stores hold your personal information when you get their in-store discount card. You know the cards you use to get "store credit" or access the "buy one, get one free" offers at your favorite shopping place? You get the advantages you get from them because the stores know that for you, they're an incentive to be a regular customer. They don't mind the slight price reduction because it means you're hooked on their products. So if you don't like FA giving you the perks of using their website, don't take any perks while you shop, either. Also don't expect to save any money.
The 21st century is wrought with Big Brother. Everything you do, feel, express and acquire is noticed, accounted for and judged. You're not alone. You're not isolated. You will never have complete privacy. Corporations sell the information they gather from you to other corporations because either a.) it makes them money (capitalism) or b.) they feel it's in your best interest to do so (communism). If you are all so paranoid over this "new and exciting" revelation that FA has been tracking and selling your information, I'm surprised you haven't offed yourself over being paranoid that everything else is the exact same way. No. You're stirring the drama pot just like you do every other time a tidbit of chewable information comes out. Well stop it. It's annoying, immature, regressive, and redundant. You don't sound smart, you sound like an angst-ridden smart-alack.
tl;dr FA watching you and selling information is nothing new. If you don't like it, go live in a cave in the mountains where nobody can find you, because that's the only place you're not being tracked at.
Now, back to your regularly-scheduled programming.

Posted 14 years agoOne day, when I'm inebriated, at a fur con, and I have the guts to put people on dares, I'm going to dare somebody to go outside and shout "It's my money, and I need it now!" at the top of their lungs. It will be great. Especially if we get a whole bunch of people who get the joke to do it in sequence. :D

What's the big deal?
Posted 14 years agoNo, seriously. Some people are working together to help improve each other's websites. Why is that so bad that people are getting up in arms and going "wah I'm heading back to DeviantArt kthxbai?" There's more butthurt showing up than a kid who got a bad whoopin'.
It's a shame, too. Some of the folks saying this are folks whose art I like.

So I Saw a Fellow Deer Today!
Posted 14 years agoSo we were racing each other on the Interstate! Hoof versus tire on a match in speed and agility! No wait, that can't be right, can it? Yep... After spotting her, I slowed down to about 35 - 40 mph, and I wasn't gaining or losing on her. (Note: everybody else around me did this as well) She was about three or four car lengths ahead of me (wanted to give plenty of room for sudden movements), and wasn't even trying to get across, so much as she was actually running along in the far left lane as fast as she could go. O.o After about 10-15 seconds of this, I guess she got tired or found a safe place to hide, and she bolted from the far left lane to the tree line to the right side. Poor dear... she must have been so scared! :( You know, this all sounds bad and scary, but truth be told, she had better manners in traffic than most people that drive that section of Interstate! She even used her tail as a turn signal! Man, people around here could stand to learn a lesson or two from her.
But in the end, this isn't as much about our deer friend, as it is about us! When you're out driving, always always ALWAYS pay attention to your surroundings! You really never know WHAT you're going to see out there!

This is a good thing, because while I love my truck, it's on in its years, and the poor thing has got a list of things wrong with it about five miles long. It did what I needed it to do, but now it's time to let somebody else have it. So the doe's on the market again, and she figured that with all you wonderful car-loving furries, that some of you might be able to help her! <3
I've got a $10,000-ish price cap, and I'm looking for something that has the following:
+30-ish or more mpg highway, preferably 21+ city
+60K-ish or less engine mileage
+good crash rating
+No major engine or system troubles - doesn't leak oil, all mechanical parts in good condition, no computer or sensor problems, nothing I have to fix upon purchase
+Sporty looking - spoiler and low, slim, sleek profile are a plus
+around 200+ horsepower for reasonable acceleration
+in-line 6 cylinder engine preferred, V6 likely
+Not a Dodge. No. Never again.
+Easy to maneuver; agile and easy to park in narrow parking spots at my college
+CD player/stereo with auxiliary port for my iPod would be great
+Takes Regular Unleaded gas
+Cruise control
+5 speed manual transmission preferred, but not required
+Dashboard intact
+Reliable heating/AC and window defroster
+Reasonable amount of storage space for a small/medium-sized car
+Engine is easy for a short, fat girl to work on.
+Good, solid, bright headlights
+Good report on Carfax
Well, somebody I was talking to mentioned that I probably won't find *all* of these things in one perfect little package (especially the part about engine mileage), but I figured I'd at least try. I can accept a car that doesn't fit all of these things, I'm just saying what I want. I'm really leaning heavily towards a Chevy Monte Carlo SS, since that was my first car, one I love dearly, and one that pretty much fits the bill for what I'm thinking about. Where y'all come in though, is telling me if you know any other cars that would also be good choices! So tell me, what can you think of that would be what I want? What should I steer clear of? Anything I should look out for? Thanks lovelies! <3
Also, I'm getting a motorcycle!!!! My dad will be buying a larger bike soon, so he said that he was selling his old one, the Yamaha 650 V-Star I rode while living in Louisiana. I didn't miss a beat telling him I'd take it, and he offered it to me for $1000. Darn straight I took it! It may take me a bit to pay it back, but I can afford it, and I just can't let this opportunity pass me up. I'm so excited! I've felt... kind of lifeless in regards to losing that bike when I left - especially when I wasn't given the chance to ride it one last time when we were packing to move my parents' stuff to Texas. I feel invigorated already just thinking about it! At the end of the semester, between Spring finals and the start of my summer classes, I'll be taking a trip up to Indiana to get it. I'll be flying one way, then riding back here. I'm really looking forward to it. So long as I stay safe, I foresee this being a wonderful experience. :)

Happy Easter! Back in Town! Life Updates!
Posted 14 years agoSo I have a lot to say in this journal. :) First of all, happy Easter everyone! Red and I will be heading to lunch shortly, so hopefully we'll be able to stop somewhere and get chocolate bunnies. Mmmmmmm chocolate bunnies. :D Also, praise Jesus and all that jazz, I won't go too much into it, but I'm happy for the true meaning of the holiday as well. ^^
I made it back home last night, after a 650 mile drive from Indiana. I was so tired. This past week I've driven a massive triangle between North Carolina, Texas and Indiana, as well as several day trips in each of those locations to deal with funeral events. Which brings to mind, that yes my mother did pass. Thankfully it was peaceful and painless, and we all got to say goodbye. She passed away April 17th, 2011 - ten days before her birthday, at Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. It was the result of multiple organs failing at once - her liver, lungs, intestines and kidneys. Even if she had lived through all this, she still would never really be herself again, and it wouldn't be the life she wanted. She said so herself. It was sad, and I'm still shaken from it, but I think this really is for the better. I'm thankful for this because where she's at now, she'll be able to walk, eat, drink and talk again, and she'll have both arms with which to hug her loved ones. Now she's with Mama and Papa too. I love you Mom... I'll see you again when I meet up with you, I promise. I also hope you enjoyed the song I finally got to play for you. :)
I'll be okay, by the way. Truthfully I knew this day would come. For the past three years mom has been through surgery after infection after illness, and it's all taken a toll on her, and we all knew it. We knew we were really just buying time, so we simply tried our best to enjoy the time we had left with her to the fullest. I really don't think we did, and I regret that, but I'm trying not to think about that. I'm thinking most about the time we all did have together, and all the wonderful things we've done and all the good times. That's how I get through things like this - I remember that although I'm currently sad, the sad times are but a drop in the bucket compared to all the good things life has to offer. In the end, everything will be all right. ^^

Family Death - be out of town
Posted 14 years agoThis is mostly to all my local friends, as I'll have Internet access virtually the whole time I'm gone.
I'll cut down to brass tacks. My mom won't be alive much longer. I'm heading off to Dallas, TX tonight to be with her and say goodbye before they pull the plug. She's been fighting injuries and infections from a should-have-been-fatal accident for the past two years now, and now, needing a lung transplant and us all knowing she'll never be able to eat or walk again knowing how messed up her nervous and digestive systems are, the quality of life she'd have would never be what she wanted it to be. It's time to accept the fact that we did our best, but the miracle we hoped on didn't come through.
I don't know how long I'll be gone. I emailed my teachers telling them about this, and asked for lenience on assignments and attendance. Lucky I only have one day of class next week anyway. But if she does pass, and we're able to arrange a funeral date, then I'll be driving up to Indiana for that too. We're intending to bury her next to Mama and Papa, her parents who both died a long while before the accident. It's by that, and all the pain she's suffered through, that I know she's fought this hard primarily for me and my sister, out of her love for us. I have her to thank all things for, and I have to tell her that it's okay if she needs to go - I can't ask anything more from her.

Moving Angst Off My Front Page
Posted 14 years agoWell, looking back at the meme I did this afternoon, I regret how negative a tone I used. I was tired and grouchy, and a lot of cynical thoughts that don't surface often came up. I think next time, I'll refrain from answering such pervasive and personal questions while in such a state of mind. This decision is wrought from the fact that I think I was too harsh with my wording, as well as the fact that I just lost two watchers today. While that's not such a big deal, what is a big deal is my reputation, and how I'm remembered. I don't want to be thought of as a wanker, I want to be revered as someone whose presence emanates positive energy and acts as a source of cheer, not depression, in people - friend, acquaintance or stranger. Sorry for the negative tone - I'll try not to let it happen again. ^^
On a side note, thanks to all for the new watches, faves and comments! I greatly appreciate the interpersonal communication I participate in via this website, and never want to give it up. :)

Bloomin' Onionface Meme
Posted 14 years agoANOTHER MEME, GAWSH. After this, I'm gonna take a nap here in the library. So tired. X.x
LAYER ONE : THE OUTSIDE
- Name: Dixie
- Eye Color: Blue
- Hair Style/Color: Long, brownish red (need to re-dye it the auburn color I like), hasn't been styled in three or four years so it looks kind of wild, NEEDS TRIMMED SO BAD. Or does it? It looks cute as it is, to me.
- Height: 5'6"
- Clothing style: Bootcut jeans and black band t-shirt, though it's starting to get warmer and WEARING BLACK IN THE SOUTHERN SUMMERTIME IS MURDER. I'll probably do some shopping on Torrid once I can afford it again.
- Best physical feature: I dunno. I kinda suck in all ways, IMO, I'm not gonna lie. I guess if I had to choose, I'd pick my butt, because it's big and round and makes a nice cushion to sit on. My belly's nice too, I guess. I love my pudge. <3
LAYER TWO: THE INSIDE
- Your fears: Amputation, being deserted, failing in my career path
- Your guilty pleasure: Food, sweet things, traveling by myself
- Your biggest pet peeves: When people complain about things they really shouldn't complain about. When people complain too much. When people judge things they don't fully understand. People pushing me to be something or someone I'm not. People applying titles and roles on me that ought not be placed. People playing their music or talking so loud that I can't hear myself think. Being in crowded locations where the presence of others makes me feel awkward or like I can't get any work done, or like I'll just be ignored and talked over.
- Your ambitions for the future: I want to advance the use of GIS technology in wildlife management, via work for the state and federal government, as well as the nonprofit sector. I want to move back to the rocky mountains or the Pacific northwest. I want to see every state in the US and every province of Canada, preferably on motorcycle. I'd also love to progress my skills on guitar and bass, start a band and maybe hit it big in a rock or metal act. I want to be respected and appreciated for my talents.
LAYER THREE: THOUGHTS
- Your first thoughts waking up: "Okay... what all needs done today? This, this, this and this. Then tomorrow I'll do this, this and this. Then next month I'll be ready to do this, this and this."
- What you think about most: What I have to do, what needs done, tests coming up, homework that's due, where I'd rather be, what I'd rather be doing, flying airplanes, riding motorcycles, fat chicks, the song of the day that I can't get out of my head till I've played ten seconds of it on the guitar
- What you think about before bed: What all I did or didn't do today, what still needs done
- You think your best quality is: My drive to professional and academic success. Sometimes it makes me seem asocial, callous and bitchy, but I like it. It's what keeps me going.
LAYER FOUR: WHAT'S BETTER?
- Single or group dates: Depends on the date.
- To be loved or respected: Couldn't really decide, though I honestly think they go hand in hand with each other.
- Beauty or brains: Brains. But I won't lie, beauty's pretty important too. It influences self image, which influences self worth, which in turn influences how much you can concentrate on your objectives.
- Dogs or cats: Can't really decide. It used to be dogs all the way, but lately I've been really wanting a cat. I miss the ones we had back in LA. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that my mate is allergic to them, one of our cats was given away, and the other (my favorite) I think died recently. ;_;
LAYER FIVE: DO YOU?
- Lie: Nope, never (coughcoughbullshit)
- Believe in yourself: I do my best, but it's hard sometimes when the weight of the world and others' problems drags me down. I believe that everything, in the end, will sort itself out in time, for what it counts.
- Believe in love: Well, the power of love is a curious thing. Make one man weep, make another man sing. ...But more than a feeling, that's the power of love. So yes, I do believe in love. I do believe it's true. Lol Huey Lewis. Yes though, it's there. Otherwise nobody would care about it as much as they do.
- Want someone: Huh? Well yeah, everybody needs somebody sometimes. Though I admit, a lot of the time I just want to be left alone. Which is weird, coming from somebody who does her very best to be nice to people.
LAYER SIX: EVER?
- Been on stage: Yeah, loved it. Can't wait to do it again.
- Done drugs: Yeah, didn't like it.
- Changed who you were to fit in: Definitely. It's the story of my life. I'm learning not to do that as much now though.
LAYER SEVEN: FAVORITES
- Favorite color: Imperial violet
- Favorite animal: Deer, dogs (huskies, corgis and black labs), foxes and wolves (I felt the way I do about these before I knew they were the most common furry species in the fandom), dairy and beef cows, piggies (I have mixed feelings on them honestly, but they really are amazing animals)
- Favorite movie: I dunno. LOTR, Tron, Spaceballs, Canadian Bacon, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and Dorkness Rising are all pretty amazing though.
- Favorite game: Right now? Fallout: New Vegas. This game is the shiiiiiit.
- Favorite book: Good question. I don't read all that much, never have. I should really change that. If I had to choose though, it would be Marty Stouffer's Wild America - it was my source of inspiration growing up.
LAYER EIGHT: AGE
- Day your next birthday will be: March 1st, the same as my last birthday and the one before it
- How old will you be: 23
- Age you lost your virginity: Probably 18 or 19
- Does age matter: Given my precedent of all my mates being older than me? You think I'd say no. But yes, it does matter. Age difference means a difference in generation, a difference in perspective and a different set of pop culture icons to be familiar with. All the time I hear "oh my god you don't remember that? I feel so old!" and I feel terrible because I feel like a child in comparison.
LAYER NINE: IN A BOY OR GIRL
- Best personality: I... really don't know. O.o Lighthearted most of the time, but can pick up on when I want to be serious. They're strong, supportive, don't complain, don't constantly bring up their problems, and try to stay positive through it all. They're easy to talk to, I guess that's the main thing. They don't over-analyze things and try to see beauty before logic.
- Best eye color: That shiny, piercing silver-grey hue, the kind that glimmers and lets you see that they've been through a lot, but don't let it phase them
- Best hair color: I dunno really. Brown's nice. Unnatural can be awesome, depending on if the color matches their personality. Guess other dark-redheads get the most love from me though.
- Best thing to do with a partner: light cuddling (I'm honestly not interested in sex, sorry), small doting kisses (I'm not that interested in making out either), going to dinner, intriguing conversation about history, politics, science and philosophy. To be perfectly honest, my favorite things to do with a partner are the same things I enjoy doing with a best friend. I don't want any more than that.
LAYER TEN: FINISH THE SENTENCE
- I love: my mate, traveling, being free from the confines of social transgressions, the Wilderness, the open road, watching deer and elk, getting things done, solitary meditation, the feeling I get when I stare out from the Great Divide and see all there is to see, that everything in the end is right, honest and pure.
- I feel: tired, bitchy, driven, but most of all, honest
- I hide: my real opinions on things in the name of being polite and not upsetting those I care about
- I miss: Flying. Long trips on a steel horse. Being respected by my academic peers
- I wish: I didn't have to give up pursuing my pilot's license. I wish I'd bought another motorcycle by now. I wish I had more personal and financial security. I wish I didn't feel like one bad move on my part would lead to the dropping out of my entire life. I wish I didn't feel like I was walking on broken glass all the time.
So that's that. Sorry this was so angsty and depressing. But now, I can work on getting better. ^^

My Contact Info
Posted 14 years agoHey everyone! I remember back when FA was having problems, that everyone was giving their contact info out, just in case. Well, I'm late to the party, but I wanted to give you all my phone number, in case you ever wanted to talk. Don't worry, I have an unlimited plan, so it's not like I get charged for calls or anything.
My cell phone number is 713-869-4902. Feel free to call anytime! :)
Also, be sure to say you're from the Internet, so I know it's you. That way I can separate you from folks at school. ^^

FWA! It's Where Classy People Go
Posted 14 years agoThat's right. I would have said the expletive that went before classy to fully describe the con, but I'm too clean-cut for that I guess. :P
So FWA was awesome, totally. :) I missed it the moment I left the con, and look forward to both AC this summer and FWA next year! PCD hit me kind of hard, but y'all know me - I can't dwell on negative stuff for too long. ^^
How about a con report, eh? Well I'll try to keep it simple. First off, it was *great* getting to hang out with my bestest best friend ever,
! I hadn't seen hir in almost two years, excluding a brief visit on my way back to North Carolina from Montana, so it was awesome just to do simple things like share a cup of coffee and conversation about furry stuff together, play checkers in the lobby or share dinner at the Metro Cafe. These are the things I looked forward to doing the most at FWA, and these are the things I did. :)
On top of that, I got to meet a bunch of wonderful people I'd set my eyes on seeing and talking to, such as
,
,
,
and
. It was wonderful talking to each of you in turn, and I thank you all for the wonderful company, however long or brief our talks may have been! I also was happy to run into a few unexpected folks, most of which I can't remember their names but can remember their faces! And it was wonderful to meet and talk with each of you, whether it was about art, music, fatfurs or anything else. ^^
I spent most of my time in the Dealer's Den, Artist's Alley and Art Auction, with minor time taken outside of that to see the fursuit parade, as well as Matthew Eble and 2's shows. The one regret I have about this con though, is that I didn't do enough. I didn't go to any panels, missed the fursuit dance contest, Uncle Kage's story hour and the rave (yeah, that was stupid - it was definitely easy enough to get to!), and I didn't realize the art auction had an adult section (I heard there was a pudgy doe picture in there I would have totally wanted. I wish I could have seen it!). That, and I accidentally overslept Saturday and didn't get up until *right* before the fursuit parade started. Dang, fat and lazy doe is LAZY. X.x I'm going to be making a much better effort to wake up in time for events at later cons. I feel like I missed out on a lot of things because of that.
I also felt kind of bad that I didn't spend all that much time with my mate,
or our friends from
during the con. I'm sorry guys!! I got caught up in what I was doing and forgot to party and be social. I have a bad habit of doing that. I love each of you though, and will do my best to make up for lost time at AC and next year's FWA. ^^
Though I've spent enough time on negative things. Hm... I also brought quite a bit of prints and original artwork! :D In total I commissioned three badges (one from
, one from
, and one from
), one original 5x7 picture (we agreed to have it be completed after the con), and got quite a few prints and one original artwork from
. I also got a pretty purple fox tail from
to match my alternate fursona! :D I'd call these things a good haul! I'll be uploading most of them to my gallery tonight when I get home from school. :)
Also, I'm wanting to get a fursuit so badly right now!! I'm trying to decide if I want to get a suit of Dixie or of Abby, but honestly, I'm leaning towards wanting to get one of Abby. Figure out a way to play a bass or an electric guitar in fursuit and I'll have it made! And yes, she will be a fat-suit. :3
Now, how many of you will I see at AC? :D

FWA - Who am I going to see? :)
Posted 14 years agoHey everyone! I haven't done this yet, so figured I would. Is there anyone here that I said I'd try to meet at FWA? Somebody that might be interested in hanging out at some point? Just who all in general is going? ^^
I'm posting this because I genuinely can't remember, but I still don't want to miss out on anyone. I have a habit of just following my mate around everywhere, so I wanted to get a better idea for who all I can expect to see and plan my schedule accordingly. :)
Other than that though, you can expect to see me somewhere at the 2 and Uncle Kage shows, as well as at Uncle Kage's Anthro Anatomy panel if he does it. I'd also love to see Sigil's panel if she's still doing it. ^^ I'll also be following my mate and our friends around while they fursuit, because that is fun. :>
I'm also bring my acoustic guitar, in hopes that I'll get to play for folks at some point. :D
Hope to see you there, regardless! I hope everyone has a great time, con or no-con. :)
