IT came IT's on and I LOVE IT!
Posted 7 years agoMy XP-PEN Artist 22E came.... Friday a full three days sooner than expected. I minded some of the warnings about it. like it doesn't come with all the right cables... My Dad had spares. I downloaded the most current driver ONLINE, and it installed about as easily as a you could want. A few minor adjustments later and...
I need to get a keyboard tray, so I can place the 22E where I want and need it to be, but that aside...
It goes to work Monday. Right now I'm just getting acquainted with it.
That all digital drawing age is finally coming to me. I hope.
I'll still draw with pencil. But inking and all else will be much less likely if impossible going on.
Sorry for all the delays this things should make it absolutely worth it. Especially you Star.
And Yes, I was stupid enough to get the extended warranty. But if you are using the thing for work you make sure you can service,fix,replace the bloody thing beyond your normal 90-day warranty.

Posted 7 years agoI'm feeling well enough to resume my original business. That means those who left me notes and emaisl are getting priority. I am still on retainer with a commissioner. But I will on all on it starting Monday.
Also against My better judgement I will be buying a XP-Pen 22E IO device. It has all the features I'm looking for and good user rating, it also costs less than and rates a bit higher than the Bosto Kingstee 22HDX. I just wish the Artisul D22 had come out or at least had a date certain by now but I can not wait forever. So I will be making the order sometime this week.
Sorry for keeping so many of you waiting and wondering. With that device I should very seriously turboboost my output as well.
Finally thanks you you all of you for your well wishes, prayers, and faith that i would be back.

I really WAS dying...
Posted 7 years agoVery early on February 8, I suffered a Hypertension crisis". I'm not sure which one or both I suffered, a stroke or a heart attack. Although it is obvious my eye sight took a huge ding and I'll need to get new glasses again.. I'm also way out of typing practice.
O can only say for certain that if emergency action was not taken that night, I would be dead.
Given some time and treatment, I should be able to resume normal physical operation, with scheduled dialysis, and my normal degree of eye sight and endurance should return to me, again given time.
I AM NOT DEAD.... yet. But I am not comfortable right now either.
I deeply regret my life choices that have led to this point, an the severe failure of my health (even if a "full" recovery it very distinctly possible). I will do my best not to ignore any current or new orders. I want to get back to stuff or at least try to as soon as possible.
Individuals will hear from me hopefully by the end of the month.

I was dying... I think
Posted 7 years agoI have been slow to make any updates aside from a set I had been working on for months, off and on. My Personal docket is still stupidly deep.
But those are excuses.
About Christmas Day 2017, I felt my health turn downward. I was also inundated with life, work, and church. Where I was maybe stretching myself too think for the holidays, only got worse. I think one of my fellow church goers gave me something. By the turn of the new Year Is was starting to slow down badly. Worse my Heart rate began to increase with palpitations (my heart was having hiccups), and was making it impossible for me to actually fall asleep, wearing me down even more. My endurance was almost completely gone. It is coming back.
I put almost everything not crucial on the back burner, even my much ballyhooed decision gate over getting a new Pen Display (Artisul still has not released even a release date for their D22 yet so...) But that is mostly unimportant.
I think I have finally gotten over the worst of it with some actual sleep and recovery. I intend to get right back to those commissions.
I don't like espousing my health concerns. This is maybe the third or fourth time in my entire life I have become sick enough to have to stop. But this time I felt I should say something instead of the usually "I'm not dead" statement some artists give.
I will fully update my queue on Monday.

The rules for this are simple.
1. Pick a character you want drawn. This can be yours of someone else's. This is essential Cosplay. References may be required. If so I may ask, or you may supply them.
2. Provide the feat you wish the character to be depicted performing. This does not have to be limited to working out, lifting things, and the usual ideas and concepts. There is also athletic feats (think track and field), feats of skill that may require great strength (martial arts, dancing), "adventuring" (Climbing a sheer cliff, deep diving,), working hard (Breaking rocks, digging, logging, etc).
3. No mere posing, the usual "show huge biceps" sort of thing, please. I know you are more imaginative than that.
4. A reasonable example might be "[My character] punching up on a massive falling boulder." or "One of [my characters] pulling together two massive chains while another character welds the chains together." Whatever you can think of besides "[My character] showing off huge biceps."

If you are using a Manga or Anime source, that will in all likely hood require a reference. I am far less familiar with Manga and anime made after 2003 and so please be specific.

1) Choose a character you wish to use for this. It can be any character as long as you can supply an adequate reference. I will not design a new character from scratch.
2) The character will be wearing the a variation of the following uniforms:
No coloring other than what is shown. You will need to choose which uniform variant.
Mystic League Male Uniform - Mystic League Female Uniform
Mystic League Dream Universe Male Uniform - Mystic League Dream Universe Female Uniform
For clarity please specify as follows: "Mystic League, Male, #3" or "Mystic League DU, Female, #6"
3) The Character will be shown respectfully and not willfully damaging their uniform. So, no "my character if flexing a huge bicep and tearing the sleeve of their jacket". And they are to be fully dressed in their uniform.
4) Please give a simple and concise description of what the character will be doing. Visual references are to be kept to ONE image of the activity, please.

I'm in San Antonio. No, we shouldn't be flooded, but we will have to see. SA has a lot of low water areas. This is probably the worst hurricane I can recall hitting Texas since Gilbert and that came ashore as a Cat 5. Harvey will be at most a Cat 3. We should not get the worst wind, but Rain is going to be by the truck load.
We should be good. Pray for us. and if all is good Monday will be welcome

Sadly, I was unable to finish my 30-day challenge. It also reminded my why I need to get a new tablet. Things are finally starting to look like I can work toward that goal again. I have been eye-balling a couple of Pen Displays (Tablet screens) and if I am unable to get the Bosto 22HDX then I may have to settle on the XP-Pen Artist22, it is the most promising of my third choices. Granted if I have about $1900 I'd buy the Wacom 22 HD touch and "call the game".
I will still finish those remaining drawings but as part of my regular docket...
But that was what the Growth Drive was really for, was to, between Xilimyth and MGI garner the money to get the Bosto, hopefully within a few months. That was back in January. Yeah did not work out as desired... But close, at first. But my taxes ended up getting that money. That only enforced the sad truth that my usual client base is rather small. Thankfully loyal but small. But that was only about a quarter of the total potential take home. But then after the initial rush, that slowed to a crawl and the usual other commissions slowed at least as much.
As I said, things are starting to look up again on this front, But don't let it stop you. I'm always open unless I specifically state otherwise. So PLEASE don't hold back. I have queue for a reason. Just sign up. If you have questions ask.
As it is, Xilimyth is up to step 18. Those just need to get done. MGI got a huge boost recently, I think, I need to check in on that. Paypal has NOT been sending me notifications like they usually do. If those donating of hitting some option to not send notifications, please don't. It makes checking easier when Paypal just emails me about it.
Now the current batch of 40 sketches is still open, There are 17 slots still open.

Posted 8 years agoIsaac Arthur has a LOT videos discussing futurist concepts and ideas. These are more the serious ideas and concept that government scientific progress but also inform most science fiction.
If you are looking of any ideas top work with or a basis to develop your own further, this is a channel to work from.
He also points to other related channels, research sites and so on. So this is not someone just pulling stuff out of the blue and HE is the only source.
Also, just so you know, he has a speech impediment and sounds a bit like Elmer Fudd. Seriously, Listening to him I wish Elmer Fudd was one of my professors. Anyway, keep that in mind and you might need the captions if you are having any trouble.

Posted 8 years agoFirst, the Growth Drive. I was seriously considering shutting it down on May 1. I have changed my mind. Xilimyth is up to "Step 15", so we will see how much further we can go. MGI is on "Step 7".
Next, The FBB Contest Might of Maidens has been gone since 2011. More than some minor interest seems to be in it. So I guess, if interest remains strong, we can go for it. I am thinking June of 2017, but the specifics need to be worked out. If you are any suggestions please let me know.
Remember the MoM is for fun and some rules will have to be adhered to. So far I am thinking some along the lines of Pokkuti's Pinnacle of Physique comic. Not specifically a Comic. But with various classes. Each participating artists, creator, may enter ONE character per class. The specific classes will have to be worked out. But only five classes tops.
Specifics on how the art will be handled, I'm not doing it all myself, should start to be hammered out during May.
Scoring will be figured out. As will the total number of contestants.
Finally, The Month of Rae is coming. Each Month of May, Rae Iksaki's actual creation/birth month is being celebrated. I have yet to think of a theme this
year however. If anyone has suggestions, as long as they are not too outlandish, I will consider it.

Both characters have come quite a ways. I intended to cut them off at step 20 or the end of April, which ever happened first.
Until the end, every $50 adds one more step to each characters growth. every $1 helps
Xilimyth currently stand at $575 and MGI stands at $250.

My regular commissions are fairly well outlined in my Commission Information (linked above). But in short a single image of a single character, inked and colored, with shading, is $40. Each additional character so done adds $20. A Colored Background adds $20.

I know there are some of you that want to hire me but for one reason or another have stayed back or hired someone else. Not this time, please.
My regular commissions are fairly well outlined in my Commission Information (linked above). But in short a single image of a single character, inked and colored, with shading, is $40. Each additional character so done adds $20. A Colored Background adds $20.
Simply contact me by Email of private message/Note, tell me what character or characters you want me to do, include references if so required and desired, plus any background or environment you want for the scene, IF you want. you are NOT required to get "the Full Monty", as it were.

Next, The Growth Drive continues, however Xilimyth's is now on hold until hers are all caught up, she is up to "step 11", or would you rather I skip to her current stage? Also, Mouse Girl Invincible (MGI) is still only on "step 2" and could use your attention, as will. Again specify which character you what you donation to go to.
However if you do not specify which, the donation is split between the two. Which puts MGI almost to "step 3".
Finally, There are still 19 slots in the 40 sketches special. Each pencil sketch is $10 plus $5 for each additional character.

Growth Drive: Xilimyth and MGI (Updatge)
Posted 9 years agoSo to try something new... Due to a scheduling conflict, it had to be pushed back until now.
Both Xilimyth and Dina Eemio, also Known as "Mouse Girl invincible (MGI), have volunteered for a chance to test just how much you want to see them grow. Each will show their unique way of growing but only if you help out with a donation.
:bulletblack: From each one's start point, every $50 donated to a p[articular character, advances their growth one more step, along the lines of their abilities.
:bulletblack: There is no set Goal or set limit. Yeah the white bullet kinda throws this, but I felt honesty would be best here.
:bulletblack: Every donation, every $1, helps.
:bulletblack: Make donations through Paypal to DC-ASHES[at]juno.com under "Friends and Family", but specify "Xilimyth" or "MGI" to effect the right character. For More information on how to make such a donation, Click here. This will likely get updated soon.
:bulletblack: Most importantly, please spread the word. Every new bit is greatly appreciated and any help will be very helpful.
:bulletwhite: In case you are wondering, and because this really does seem more than a little self-serving, I finally settled on short list of new Pen Displays. It is NOT a Wacom Cintiq (22 HD Touch). I am very serious about that, ... Unless this works out FAR better than expected. But those things are expensive.

I actually like what I'm seeing so far.

There are some who are complaining that "its hard to use". Actually I find it pretty easy. Everything is easy to select and there really isn't any change in functionality. Its just neatly streamlined.
The people complaining? I have no idea why they are. I can pretend I know. I can't tell "WHO made what?" is about the only thing I have seen that might be a problem. You do have to roll over to get that info. But then I know most of my watches on sight, even commissioners whose own art style is non-existent or never on display.
But if that is all. I have NOTHING to really complain about there.
This is a keeper.
