But of course, people are ragging on the creators of these costumes and the models for whatever reason. It's too weird (I've seen weirder), or it's too furry (I've DEFINITELY seen furrier), etc. etc.

I think these are beautiful. Probably more difficult to aquire than a fursuit, I'd imagine (or at least of that quality.)
Personal favourite is the deer (of course) ;)
I also like the horse. VERY nice! It's gorgeous.

I left for a while.
I found myself questioning whether or not I wanted to have anything to do with the furry community.
I haven't even drawn any anthro in months... when I try to, it's just bad.
But, all of a sudden today I just felt drawn back to it. The cuteness, the friendliness, the warmth...
And then there's all the unspeakable stuff beneath the surface that I just don't want to deal with.
Ugh. I'm so conflicted.
If I'm a part of the furry community, people WILL bunch me together with pervs who have nothing better to do but watch porn all day. But, I love it here.
Aggh. I'll just stay and see how it goes... I missed you guys.

So, we're moving houses soon. Which is great because I've been living in an apartment-sized home with my mom and dad and ONE bathroom for nine years. :( My mom wants an art studio for all her supplies and stuff and I want a window-seat and my dad... he wants us to have those things. :) lol So, we sold our house and we've been looking around for a good one.

I haven't been able to have a dog because our house is so small, and I've wanted one for the longest time.
But, now that we're moving, and we'll have a real backyard and a bigger house, I can get one!
I've done a lot of thinking about what kind of dog would be good for the type of family I have. Which characteristics would fit us.
A Greyhound is literally perfect for us. Plus, Greyhounds really, really need to be saved. So many of them are destroyed if they're not good enough to be race dogs. Others are used to breed more Greyhounds. Others are sent to places where animal testing takes place. I want to adopt a retired race hound. Maybe two, if my folks are up for it. Everyone I've seen on the internet who owns a greyhound says that it was one of the best decisions they ever made, getting one.
Greyhounds are actually coach-potatoes! (my family in a nutshell. lol)
Plus they are very loving and sensitive dogs with good temperaments.
Not to mention, they're gorgeous, elegant dogs.
I say NEVER buy those dogs in the shop that go for $500. Always save them from shelters and adoption centers.

I can't wait to meet this dog. I'll do everything for it.

And besides that... nothing much has been happenin'. :) I'm a pretty simple kid at the best of times.

Choosing a fursona: My story and opinion~

I wish the furry fandom consisted of more than mostly canines and felines.
I mean, if your 'sona is a k9 or feline because that's what your personality is like, then that's cool, but most of the time, when "newborn" furs are picking out their fursonas, their minds immediately go to canine (Foxes probably being the most popular, and then wolves, then dogs and other random k9s) or felines (common catgirl/catboy, lions, cheetahs, etc.). Even I picked a silver fox when I first joined the fandom, but then I thought about it (after I had left the fandom for a while) and realized that I wasn't really like a fox at all. Plus I realized how unoriginal having a fox 'sona was. (It CAN be original, but the design has to be pretty darn unique since there are so many.)
When I re-joined the fandom, I came back as a feral child named Aine. (Awn-ya). She was pretty unique (I don't think I've met any other feral human children in the fandom...) but I still didn't like her because 1) I felt left out by the furries and didn't think I could relate to them on a role-playing level. 2) It kind of took away from the point of being a furry. and 3) I still didn't feel a connection to her or an obligation to draw her.

I left the fandom again.
But as some say: "Once a furry, always a furry." So I came prancing back.

And this time I reeeaally thought about what kind of person I was, and also, who I aspired to be. I wanted to find a happy medium between the two.
I was shy. I loved forests and nature. I wanted to be a kind person. The sort of person who everyone loves, not because she's a conformist, but simply because she's nice to everyone no matter what religion, interests, skin-color, sexual orientation, or appearance. I wanted something with smooth fur and a thin, graceful body. Something unique. Something beautiful and swift. An animal that could instantly be identified as a female or a male.
Deer. Deer are nice, I thought. The first thing I did was choose a name. I looked for names that meant "Shy".
(From 20000-NAMES) ERNA, reserved, shy. Great. I loved it. It was a pretty name and had the meaning I wanted.
As for Erna's surname, I picked something aesthetically pleasing to me: Auvray. (Ah-vree).
The design was easy. I wanted something that reflected her personality. Very shy and kind. Something I was and something I aspired to be. I picked very conservative innocent traits. A simple grayish-green dress, not too short but still cute, and light blue eyes, with long, big awkward ears. By then, I still had allooott of things to work out and improve on.
The more her design and personality came together, the more I loved her and felt a connection to her. Finally, I had picked he right one. She was me. I even felt a similarity in our names. (Emily... Erna.) It all just felt right.

I had left behind Vixemi and Aine. They were bad creations with good intentions rotting in the back of my mind by then, the poor things.
I found that people liked Erna. I had never gotten much attention before with the fox and the feral child. I wasn't playing my cards right. I didn't like my characters, and neither did anyone else. Because I didn't like myself (or the character that represented me rather) I sort of just lurked around.
When I posted my first few pictures on FA on the DoeADeer account, immediately, I got watches and comments and faves. Maybe I was just in the right place at the right time, or maybe people just loved her look. Either way, I was more obligated to be involved with the fandom and draw requests and be creative with it because I found a character that I loved to role-play and draw.
I haven't left the fandom again since then, and Erna still fits me in every way.

It worked out so much better for me when I found a fursona that fit me like a puzzle piece. So my advice to newborn furs: When you choose your fursona, think about it. Really think about it. Don't say "Foxes are cool." and pick a fox 'sona unless you really do think you're sneaky and clever and crazy. If you're civilized, reserved, and book-smart IRL, think about what fits you. An owl or something that represents those characteristics might be better for you, and you might come to like that animal even more than a fox or a wolf or something when you develop the character more.

My bottom line: Pick something because it fits and you like it, not because everyone else is doing it and it looks cool.

Any veteran furs who are reading this, please post your Story and Opinion on choosing a fursona too, and be sure to leave the link to it on this journal so I can read it! ;)

*Note: To any canine or feline furs who are reading this: This journal was NOT made to discourage people from choosing canine and feline fursonas, or to bash people who already have one. Hello, that is, FROM CALIFORNIA. Yes, today I woke up in Texas, my home, and I am now writing this entry from Santa Cruz, California! Strange time change... It was my first real plane ride somewhere. I am not afraid of hights, and I enjoyed the spectacular "above-the-clouds" view, but the altitude was making my ears hurt REALLY bad. I was doubled over clutching my ears on some parts of the ride. But the rest of it was fun and dandy. However I am EXHAUSTED from waking up so early. I am in the hotel room now with my i-pod, an air conditioner, and a bed all to myself, in a VERY beautiful state. I am so happy to find out that it's cold here, even though it's August. A nice break from the almost year-round Texas heat. Not the freezing cold like in winter, but a well air-conditioned room. Like.. perfect cold.
Oh! I never mentioned WHY I'm in California! Simply to take a vacation with my family. Mom, dad, and me shall sleep for 22 hours a day (lol) and use the other two hours as hiking time, and sightseeing. As well as GOIN TO THA BEACH YEEEAH! XP
Sigh. I like California. It makes me not want to go back to Texas. :(
Plus, I'm not too thrilled about riding on that plane again. *sobs and rubs ears*

I had a furry dream last night. Lot's of fursuiting going on. We even went to the movie theater. (Not sure who "We" is, I know I was in a fursuit.. a canine one for some reason, and a group of other fursuiter in various costumes. I remember being in a nusery at one point, where young kids were playing. And one of the kids off by himself in the corner had a fursuit head on (It looked like pooh bear. OH, BTW. Anytime I have a furry dream, a yellow bear shows up in it somewhere. What the heck does that mean?) and he said "I can't see out of this very well."
I went up to him and crouched down and talked to him about something... I can't remember what it was. Anywhoozle, that's about it. I love having furry dreams. :) Any yellow bears out there?! Just curious. lol :)

I tried cooking eggs in a pan for the first time this morning... (Yeah... I'm not very independent XD sigh..)
I forgot to put oil in the pan, and the heat was on too high. I burned them and the pan has egg stuck all over it, which sucks because I wash the dishes in this house.
I ate them, but they tasted like fish. :(
