General | Posted 8 months agoHere's a great example of how not to use someone's art as a character reference, and a good exercise in the difference between reference and theft.
Have a good read of the raffle content before applying for it, we can all learn from it.
I was bullied growing up, so I don't want anyone who reads this journal to contact the offender in anyway,
rather, I just want to spread awareness.

Celebrating 10 Years of Tamien
General | Posted 2 years agoTLDR; On the 8th of December 2013 Tamien was created. Below are stories and pictures celebrating that, taking a trip down memory lane, and links to images uploaded to Fur Affinity never before seen.
Grab yourself an ice cream or some snacks, this is going to be a long one.
I drew the very first picture of Tamien and uploaded her onto Deviant Art on the 8th of December 2013. Back then I was 20 years old and had been role playing online since before I was 16. It's safe to say that creating this character would change my life.
Tamien was the first character I had drawn that had truly captivated me, surpassing Neddy the squirrel a character I had drawn before Tamien. And I would draw her many more times in many different outfits.
At this time the character Identified as a male, more on that later.
Not only was Tamien my most successful character, and the character I've drawn the most as you can see in my gallery. She was also popular, shown here with another person's character Alex. I was actually paid to draw this piece, the only time I've accepted a commission. I think I charged $80 New Zealand Dollars. It was also the first time she featured with someone else's character, and she will feature with many more characters over the years.
We move forward about 2 years now, I just moved city for a new job and have been spending time with some really great friends. Though we have drifted apart now, one of those is
KillerGirl. They were patient with me while I showed them my art folder and took a liking to my mouse. Now even though I drew Tamien a lot, my ability is still very limited and each time I draw her face I gave her those kitty lips, which would result in a more wooden and featureless expression. KillerGirl gave me this artwork as a surprise gift, and it was the first time I would see Tamien express herself. When I look back I like to remember this as the time when Tamien gained a soul. I would commission KillerGirl many more times as seen in my gallery.
About this time while flaunting my new sexy mouse I discovered what I thought was a kink at the time, that is Male-Pregnancy. I came up with a clever little explanation as to how the mouse could look male on the outside, but still get pregnant on the inside. I got tired of describing it in role play so I drew it. Fast forward another 3 years and I would re-draw the design. And I think we can all agree version 2 is much better. Around this time I changed the character's gender to male-herm... But finally earlier this year I changed Tamien's gender to herm, and have found it fits her so much better, it just feels natural. Including changing her pronouns to she/her. Fun fact about those biology diagrams, they are free to use and I have seen them out in the wild before on f-chat, which makes me very proud to see my art out there being used to help people express their characters.
Now is a great time to mention the miniatures of Tamien I have painted. Remember those friends I spent time with when I moved
Milkshake and 
Dottar Well they introduced me to Dracones and Tamien got her first Miniature. Fun fact, I still haven't actually played Dracones after 6 years haha. Years later Milkshake, Dottar and myself would all paint miniatures of our fursonas in a resident evil setting and play them on the Resident Evil 2 board game. Which, I can highly recommend as a great way to spend time with friends. And finally, just under my own prerogative I would paint a Dungeons and Dragons miniature for Tamien. Funnily enough playing Tamien at the local game store has helped me make a couple more great life long friends ^////^
Ok lets slide on another few years after the first renaissance, the era when Tamien got her soul and KillerGirl was my go to artist. Now we move into the second renaissance and I'm dipping my toes into commissioning digital artists, such as Anhmaru, Stas Kvas and one of my all time favourites Lilith. A new world of possibilities is opened up, and I enjoy digital art so much that I now no longer use paper when creating art in order to train myself with the tools.
It is about this time that I discover
Dee, and her art is just enchanting, I had to get myself something. I had this old drawing of Tamien in her nursing uniform and I thought there couldn't be a better opportunity to see that outfit realised in a more dynamic space. And Dee knocked it out of the park! You can see in my gallery that I have commissioned her a few times, including finally illustrating a full ref sheet. And so far that's where we're at, the second renaissance, KillerGirl gave Tamien a soul and Dee gave her a solid, sensual form.
It is amazing to think back on the last ten years, there's so much I could talk about but I just don't have the time. The people I have met through role playing have been absolutely amazing, the stories and adventures this little mouse has been on are countless. I didn't realise just how many different characters she features with in art. It is truly touching and just absolutely beautiful to see what each artist adds to Tamien's spirit. From Dee's beautiful structured forms, to the soul and emotion of KillerGirl's ink arts And Liliths Playful and joyful pieces. And so many more.
Thank you so much for joining me on this recounting of Tamien's 10 years. The next artist I have my eyes on is
TokiFuji, but if you have ever seen one of their YCH sales you'll understand why that will take some time to accomplish. I was planning to try and get one in time for the tenth anniversary but that was too wishful. ^-^ Still, I am a member of their Patreon so I'm hoping I'll get lucky, it would be a dream come true to see Tamien next to Tracy.

One final very special mention, and I left them for last because I felt
Lazy Snout deserved a special mention all of their own. So I was watching Snout's stream and I got very lucky on a random gift sketch, and got chosen. I asked for a piece where Tamien has stolen a shirt much too big for her and is showing off her piercings. Now it might not be clear exactly what band logo is on that shirt, that's because it's a band logo Snout made just for their comics. Making this the first time Tamien has been canonically included in another artists universe. I cannot express how fortunate I feel to have shared Tamien with so many amazing people!

Absolutely worth it and the artist is very nice to work with. Russian in origin so be patient with their English. If you're polite they will be there with you in many steps of the process to ensure you get something that looks like your character. (Drawn in their style)
