But here is the thing, and don't deny it, because the last 8 years I have seen this before, Obama winners were terrible sports and rubbed it in peoples faces.
You celebrate when Obama won and mock any who say its the end of the world or dared vote for the other side, yet here you are in the other shoe now, doing the Exact same thing. And I know a few of you who would have been really bad and post "Clinton won! In your face Trumper!" journals. And people posting "In your face Clinton voters" journals, lets act like we are older than 12.
So instead of posting really passive aggressive, or just flat out aggressive journals, insulting or belittling people who do not agree with you, how about we be civil? Its not the end of the world. And if you are going to threaten to move to Canada, no one is making you stay here. Don't guilt others, its your choice. Do it or don't.
I get so sick of this posting phase because it brings out the worst in people.
Lets just behave in a professional, rational way. No more Doom saying, no more "this time I am really leaving", No more "#(*% you idiot" and no more "HA! in yo Face!" Lets all just be decent and friendly people.

General | Posted 9 years ago"Aye, I remember it well. Twas the Shiitake of 83 it was. Was sittin there working on a roast while O Patrick was workin on tha potatohs. The lad dina see it comin, one o the potatos was bad. Rot to the core, he died n less n a minnute. But the roast stew was not ready. So shufflin over I ripped the potato he has been workin on out of his cold dead 'and. Thrust it in the stew, brought the heat up to 400 degrees and set it to cook while I heaved the body over. Well we had the General for dinner that eve so I cudna put it off. So they got me a new assist'nt by the name of Franko. Franko was one o them types that bronzed themselves dayly. Sad sap was as incompetent as they came but th' muscle to make up for it. He was peelin them carrots for the stew... Peeled so hard his left pinkie came clean off it did. Went right n the stew but he was so bronzed and orange we couldnt find it amongst all the other baby carrots. So I sent him off to the med wing but he bled to death flexin his muscles to impress the new lieutenant on the way. Was gettin dark that day, two men cut down. I tossed the peeler over board and gave the replacement a spoon to peel with. Well the next idiot they sent me hadnt even taken a basic cooking class before. Couldna cook an egg if his life depended on it. He got the sour cream and whipped cream mixed up, so that added a layer of surprise to the cake. Well by now you are probly asking, there has been no mention of mushrooms at all so far, what this got to do with any of that? Well now, ya see the feast had begun and I was cleanin the kitch'n. Well the general brought the Russian ambassador with 'im that night. He was dreadfully allergic to fish. But thats not really important because the general was the one who discovered Franko first. It started a bit of a scene and when the general spit it out it hit a Private in the back of the head. He thought he has been shot at so he opened fired on the banquet and the cheap or'derves. It caused such a panic that everyone went wild firing at each other. As you know grenade practice is a tad weak on battleships, so when Lieutenant Prescott heav'ed is ol pineapple, it went into the ducts and blew out the engine room. Well the ship started to go down. luckily I had just finished the dishes and 'ad opened the porthole for fresh air to dry em. I jumped out the window with a few supplies. Ship went down, I was the only survivor. Well the crate I was floatin on happened to be imported grub from the ship we sank last week. Shiitake mushrooms. had ta stew em in sea water and cook em on burning crate bits. Ill never forget that day. They tasted awful they did."
My current mental state
General | Posted 9 years agoSomeone urged me to do this so I will, we will see what comes of this. Currently I am under a lot of stress. Taking tests (and in some cases failing), the election and all of that, Family and of course money and a job. All of that on my mind and now of course seeing the dirty secrets of how computers work and can be hacked in my tech classes has made me understandably paranoid about things.
Frankly I think things could go either way on everything. Both with classes, jobs and politics everything could suddenly and horribly crash for the worst, but also a chance something good can happen too.
Not only that but just the horrible things that can happen, like Doxing people to ruin their job or life. Yeah, its worrying.
There isn't a But here, this is still in the air, none of this is resolved.
I barely Trust anything.

Possible side project
General | Posted 9 years agoAs some of you may know my Tablet is down again. Turns out I don't have enough money atm to buy a replacement part to see if it POSSIBLY solves the problem.
In the mean time I was thinking of doing a charity sketch project for those who also don't have enough money these days. So tell your friends.
To qualify for this you need to meet the following requirements:
You have not had your Fursona officially drawn or fully developed yet.
You cant afford commissions.
The Sona being drawn is YOUR personal sona, Not someone elses, Not a side character for a story, it needs to be yourself.
If you qualify and have no developed sona then say so below and perhaps we can help work it out together. (I tend to do this now and then.)
If you qualify and do have a clearly defined idea post your general information about it below.
If you do NOT qualify for this AND posted to get free art anyway ignoring the above rules you will be disqualified.
If you have a friend who might like this and have no fursona tell them. I will pick randomly from here when I have some downtime and we can work this all out.

Modern Art Debunked
General | Posted 9 years agoSpeaking as an art graduate I am going to share the dirty little secret that most Professors try to lie to you about.
Modern art doesn't require any skill or talent. My professor used to give all sorts of excuses all the time. Like, "Well modern art has 3 parts, craftsmanship, materials and meaning." And he would rate art by that. However there is NO rule in art past that says there has to be a meaning. Mona Lisa: Portrait. Last Supper: Illustration. The Starry Night: Landscape. David: Statue of historic figure. Undoubtedly some of the most well known ones, all skilled in their craft and all using very intricate methods or materials, but no real message.
When you see art it is either supposed to invoke an emotion or thought. But that thought could be "Wow that's a really pretty picture." This Professor I speak of would penalize you Heavily if there was not some "deeper meaning" and likely some backwards complicated method you would have to do a research paper on to discover it. Now granted, pictures with a deeper meaning you can find are more interesting but are not inherently required.
What has happened is the intellectual elite have decided to award art that only requires some form of "Deeper meaning" now. You have heard about these in the news. An empty room. Someone or somebody screaming or gibbering into a microphone. All this is is just a false sense of superiority. To them its just a way to make other people feel less inferior if they don't agree with you. Modern art comes and goes and these "Revolutionary" pieces of trash are remembered about as long as the news covers how weird they are. Think about it, do you remember the artists name who Lets take one example where an artist just took poop and put it on stands in a fancy environment.
Normal person: What the heck? How is this art? I could do this in my own bathroom.
Art aficionado: Typical Philistine, can you not see how this is both a commentary on the world and the state of affairs? The deeper meaning of looking past the corn and seeing that society is filthy and corrupt?
That's all modern art really is. Minimal, if any skill, Unorthodox materials or methods and most of the time a Fill in the blank meaning. Now there are still people with great skill out there and amazing craft. Those sidewalk chalk artists, that takes real time, real skill and usually there isn't much meaning but it engages people.
Is is possible to be a skilled artist and also make modern art? Yes but its rare.
Lets play a game I will in fact cheat a little because modern art cant stand even with help.

General | Posted 9 years agoI was just thinking of harry potter and I remembered that one spell they use for fixing his glasses. Then I thought, you know they have a lot of just plain lazy spells in there. Like one for cleaning said dirty glasses instead of just pulling out a small cloth. Then it occurred to me, what would happen in about 500 years once they had perfected magic to the point you really only need to wave your wand and it happens. ready for dinner? wave a wand. Want seconds, wave a wand. Want to go out but don't feel like walking? levitating broom or carpet.
Then I realized, you would have the opposite side of the spectrum of Wall-e, only with magic instead of technology. Its nothing more than a cute twist but its a funny idea, bunch of fat people with wands on carpets.

Movie Review: Disney

Many movies over the years have been given great reviews, loved by the public, but are they really so great?
Lets go over a few of them.
Pinocchio: As we know, Disney has taken many of the old grim tales and trademarked them as their own, usually with a little plot change. the main problem is simple with this story, a completely dead piece of wood comes to life and then he sends it out into the world like its nothing. Its an easy one to miss. The rest of the story isnt bad, but its a little all over the place.
Lion King: Is Lion hamlet with some musical numbers and has a happy ending. This one has a lot of character growth, development It deals gracefully with just about every aspect on the list. Not any complaints aside from Scar never really had much backstory.
So here we have a great story and an alright story from long ago. Lets look at one of Disney's original attempts at something new.
oh also spoilers.
FROZEN...
Where do I start? The very beginning of the movie starts out with the ice cutting song. This song serves no purpose but to introduce a character (which isnt really needed) and a little cultural insertion (for a fantasy story.) After that we have the king come to the trolls for help. "Born with the power or cursed?" First line from the troll. So much promise. I mean curses are things Disney does, sleeping beauty did it well. Born with it? Oh well is this natural? Are there others with this power? Was there a reason for this cause? Nope, thats it. Backstory: 0. Elsa is just a lucky star who managed to posses the power of Iceman. But not really. Cause she can bring snow to life, Make clothes and makeup and most of all make a Disney style castle out of thin air with ice. Excuse me if I am not impressed with your Mary Sue Disney. So apparently trolls, magic and stuff are natural in this world. And so the troll waves his hand and rewrites her memories... yep just a thing in this world. Then Professor X Troll tells him that her powers are only going to grow and that you have to "CONTROL IT" or fear will be your undoing. So what does King daddy do? "Suppress your powers dear." Great parenting. "Also we dont have a tower or anything so we are just going to lock you in your room. WE arnt evil." I mean this parenting is so bad the only thing they did worst was die on their kids. Yeah I went there.
So fast forward BOTH girls have been locked in the castle. Elsa I will assume is in like solitary confinement. That doesn't cause mental problems at all. So we have one girl who is now filled with fear of losing control and an isolationist, and one that is dumber than pancake, but its cool cause she is totally adorkable. She knows nothing because she is sheltered and is pretty much a party girl. Again, these are the leaders of this doomed 'let them eat cake' kingdom. Nothing eventful happens until a girl falls for a pretty faced guy, who is perfect. She barely talks about any of his things but he does talk about being neglected by his brothers followed by "But I would never hit you baby." So obviously Elsa loses control and everyone knows now. Do people react surprised in this strangely magic-less kingdom in a fantasy world? Yes. Are the reactions over the top? yes. So she runs away and after endangering people and starting the next ice age what does her sister do? Stay and give blankets and help the populace because she is the only ruling monarch left? Nope gotta get my sister, here dude I met, Run my kingdom for me while I am away! And of course, because Disney wants to make his betrayal all the more shocking he has a sort of "dont leave me! be safe." face, instead of a smiling "Alright this is perfect face."
So a girl, who has been locked in a castle, who knows nothing about the kingdom, people or the wilderness, walks into the blizzard without supplies or worm clothes, and no map. She is dead and found later to be 'Frozen.' Roll credits.
But no. She miraculously finds the one guy out there who is rather practical too and even scoffs at her with common sense. But no. She is to blind to see it and scorns his advice. Then as he fights off the wolves she has the know how to think to set fire to something and then pick up said burning object and hurl it at this guy just missing him . Then later as he makes the sacrifice to jump off the sled and is hanging from a cliff, she knows what a common tool she has never used before called a pick-axe and also ties a knot (a commoner trait) that doesn't come undone from the weight of a full grown male and hurls it at him almost hitting him again.
meanwhile Elsa is having her female empowerment moment song which is basically saying "@(&$ the people, @)*% the kingdom, I am doing what I want even if it freezes them to death."
The reunion goes about as well as a prescripted cut-scene in a game goes. She hits the one place the trolls say is fatal and fights off the angry mob led by prince charming who lets people come with him, who he know will kill Elsa for him. Everyone gets separated, the trolls say only an act of true love can save her.
Skipping obvious comic relief Jarjar Snowbinks who brings NOTHING to the story. She gets home after she starts to slowly freeze and low and behold macho-man betrays her, what a surprise, and walks off super smug because we need to hate him because he has no backstory and is just evil and wants to rule. So everything is gunning for this final showdown. The Evil guy tells her what she did to her sister, and she is shaken enough so he tries to kill her. But her sister, in her weakened state who just a scene ago was having trouble getting around in a room, runs up and saves the sister, who has been a real asshole all movie to her and conveniently freezes solid into ice. Ice so strong that a sword does not break, even though metal is harder but it would be, I dont know, to much character development to have a villain cut off a hand *Cough cough starwars.* nope, stops him, saves her, evil guy gets comeuppance and everyone just suddenly accepts the queen who almost left them Frozen after running off and almost killing her sister. Practical guy does not tell the girl with terrible judgement who just shipped her last boyfriend off, literally, and falls for her, because we have to have a happy ending before credits.
Thats it. No Real consequences for their actions, minimal character development, 1 Mary sue ice goddess (no other magic in this world other than the trolls), tons of overrated music and a even worst spin off mini-movie.
Now they are going to do Pete's Dragon: Eliot's Revengance this year. Disney, your last best seller was crap, lets be honest, it was a Disney princess empowerment musical and now you want to reboot a movie?
This movie is going to be forgotten just as fast Aladdin and the 40 thieves movie.
Think I am right? Think I am wrong? Tell me below and anything else you think.

General | Posted 9 years agoMany stories, movies and cartoons have been made over the years. But it is the good ones that have weathered time and are more than just a feel good story that lasts a short time. A good story has a few basic parts. A sound plot, a rich world, good characters, a moral or point of the happenings but most importantly, consistency.
Plot: A good Plot is more than just our hero goes to fight the evil villain and win. Its about the reasons of everyone. Why is the hero going? Why did the villain do it? Why didn't the kings guards go instead?
This is what makes H.P Lovecraft better than Creepypasta.
World building: If a world is just thrown together it will never measure up to one that has been carefully made like a clock. While a world isnt critical, the more things don't fit, the more it distracts from the story, the more it hinders it. Why is the world the way it is? Sometimes just a little change can make a big difference.
This is why 'Avatar the last airbender' is remembered and Sponge Bob is forgotten.
Characters: Its true, you can have a character in a story where something happens. But if you have a story where something happens to a character. A hero can overcome a villain and save the princess. But what if you play it from the position of the Villain? What led them to this? why did they do it? What if the hero spares the villain, does he develop more as a person? Does the villain change before its to late and set things right?
This is why "Return of the Jedi" is loved and why we don't talk about 'Starwars: Droids.'
Ending Thought: So whats the point? Romeo and Juliet are dead. The point is that the hate between two groups crushed the sprouting of love and that both family's could have not suffered the death if they had made peace. Or maybe something different. A good ending isnt black and white, sometimes it leaves the ending open.
Its what makes the Hobbit a classic. There arnt many stories that can measure up to it.
Consistency: While this can fall into World Building, it may not always. Some of these are not big, like if the language is functional, do the words and markings match up or if a character suddenly does something they don't have the know how to do. Like a Paladin suddenly lock picking a door to save the person. A Peasant suddenly having a lawyer level intuition or any sudden skill or knowledge suddenly without explanation. This is what often breaks a story.

Conceptual challenge 1
General | Posted 9 years agoBeing a designer and conceptual artist at heart I am looking to challenge myself with ideas from my viewers, However a few disclaimers first.
1. This is not a "free art of your character" challenge.
2. I don't mind an broad ideas but I want it to be clear.
3. I do not mind it being PG or even M but this is not like commissions.
Since this is my first time (and hopefully one of many to come) Im going to be a little more detailed here. I am doing this to both train myself, hone my skills and make something interesting people can enjoy.
Now I dont mind doing a character, or species, buildings, objects, machines, weapons or tech. I want to make all sorts of things.
what I want is a clearly defined idea of what it is I am creating, possibly a reference of an aspect or some such that is important or perhaps hard to describe in words. And then the defining traits or characteristics that are important. Oh one more thing. I would prefer that if you do have to pick something thats already been created that it not be owned, Like super fighting robot Megaman or Sonic.
So give me what you got in the comments, Ill pick something and we can see how it works out.

Here is badly described idea, one that doesnt tell me anything about what it looks like.

Here is an example of a badly defined idea, its unclear and vague.

Here is a good idea, it tells me what I am making and how to go about it.

Dungeon monster. sharp spines, no eyes, barnacles on skin. Wears armor like turtle shell and is lizard like.

Test your creative powers
General | Posted 10 years agoIve been listening to the lyrics of "sound of silence" by Simon and Garfunkel and am wanting to make some art of it. but other than the obvious social commentary that it is making I was thinking of taking its interpretation I was thinking, perhaps we you Apocalyptic. Now if you arnt familiar with this sort of writing, its when you make a very dramatic envisioning.
So for example when in the song they say "and the words of the prophets were written on the subway walls" it could be interpreted as old peoples writings written on the walls in a subway. Another more dramatic and extreme way would be that perhaps all those crazy conspiracy's you see written on the subway walls were right and came true. again subjective but can yield great possible ideas.
So here is what I'm thinkin, This is a project ive been wanting to do for years and I eventually will but havent because the visuals I have thought up for it are interesting; but only 2 lines out of a song does not not an interpretation make. So I thought, how about I see what the other great creative minds can think up? I'd be interested to see what others think and can interpret and if I can get enough feedback and fantastic visions of what you all think perhaps I can finally at last draw this. Wanna lose weight?
General | Posted 10 years agoI have lost 15 pounds over the last month by doing this new plan and I want to share because I used to think I couldn't do much without a gym. There is a group on youtube, its a couple who do workout exercises. Many people today don't have workout equipment or go to a gym, and that's okay, times are tight. This channel puts together hundreds of possible workouts. Some with dumbbells (or a weighty object) and some just as they are. I do 2-3 of their workouts a day while not eating to much and drinking about a gallon of water a day and I'm already feeling much better and more fit. It might seem like a lot but most of the workouts are about 10 minutes.

Why am I sharing this? Because everyone wants to be fit and feel good about themselves. I doubt many will really look into this but for the few who are looking for a free way to get fit this is for you.

Hatching/shading questions
General | Posted 11 years agoFellow artists how do you do it? Ive seen some people just do it like they draw, others hold it differently in their hand and move their whole arm. How do you do it and what is your thoughts?
