Drum n Bass Rave Tonight at Leftfield, Lower East Side, NYC
Posted 9 years agoHere I am sitting at my computer lamenting the dirty dishes and wasteful receipts and junk mail piling up on the left side of my giant L-shaped desk blasting Japanese gabber made frenchcore. I'm thinking to myself, I need to spend less so I can afford to splurge big time during my 2 week tenure in Japan. Also thinking to myself I shouldn't have the tolerance that I do, having drank 10 whiskies back on Saturday and never actually getting drunk whilst knowing I only drink once a week. I'm browsing my Facebook feed and I come across a Drum n Bass rave at the sick underground music venue 2 blocks aka 2 mins from my apartment.
This is what I love about NYC, you find the craziest events in the darkest corners and the pace that it happens is uncontested by anywhere in the world. Hell yeah I'm going tonight, and hell yeah I know it's a Monday, and hell yeah I know tomorrow is election day. Life is best to be enjoyed, live it like your last!

Toyko, Japan - 2016
Posted 9 years agoSo, I have open plans to make a trip to Japan, specifically Tokyo and likely the Shibuya-ku prefecture. I was wondering what peeps I knew here live there or nearby and would like to hang out? I'm aiming at November (late) for Kemocon and Hardgate at Circus Tokyo and Comiket around New Years + a few weeks after. The latter is more likely given I have friends who will likely go with me. The November trip might be alone if I do make it.
Let me know~! 日本わとても面白い、よ~!

Looking for Commissions
Posted 10 years agoFirst, HOW DOES OUR GENERATION AFFORD FURSUITS AND ART COMMISSIONS!!! I'm on the high side of the income bracket, and I keep thinking, "oh god no, I can't do that $3000 suit, I need to invest that excess $3000 I get so I can have enough to buy a co-op/condo or so I survive in retirement". I don't understand how most of my friends whom have never worked or work for peanuts do it...
Also, our economy needs a correction. 10% is too low.
Second, I remade my website -again- and I'm really liking the design more. That being said, I'm constantly working on it after work. I'm not a front-end developer!!
But! I need art of my characters/fursonas/purrsonas what have you. If you are open, let me assess your style and see if it's something I want/need!
For reference, the site, though largely not done: dstorm.nyc/characters
It even looks decent on mobile!

Recreation of my Website
Posted 10 years agoFirst of all, let me say I admire all of you front-end developers out there. I know back-end pretty well, but I'm pretty terrible when it comes to visuals.
I'll probably update here when I have bigger updates. I plan to do ALOT to this page and it's very bearbones currently.

What's New + Poking for Anthrocon Interest
Posted 10 years agoSo what's new?
Got a higher paying job amongst irl stuff. Celebrated a bit too hard with $26 catfish on City Island, Bronx amongst other $30-$50 meals.
Moreso, went to Anime Central and had a blast. We did our Scarlet Devil Mansion Party (rave) and achieved something like 500 people. Talk about amazing!! A lot of people came out just to see me too and I got so much praise; I'd feel so happy right now if I wasn't so tired!!
Now that the partying has died down and I can finally relax, it's time to prepare for the next convention: Anthrocon. I'm also going to Anime Next and maybe Anime Expo and ColassalCon in between. More to the point, I have roomspace at the Westin in a 2bd. Hopefully I can get a round 4 people for this as it's panning out to be an awesome year!
Also also, I'll be moving within NYC in a couple of months. Going to leave SoHo for Lower East Side, Financial District, West Village, Clinton, Hell's Kitchen, Sutton Place, Hudson Heights, Washington Heights, or Jackson Heights likely. I'm kinda looking for roommates; to say the least, the price range for south of 59th st is $1500/mo ea max (estimate to be around there). The other areas I mentioned are more around the $1000/mo ea max with nice possibility to get it down to $600/ea. It works for me as the other areas are about 25-30 min commutes. If you have other suggestions, let me know. And no, I won't move to Brooklyn. It's not that I don't like Brooklyn (I LOVE South Brooklyn), but for a decent commute, I'd be paying more than if I lived in Manhattan.
Also also also, I'M PROBABLY GOING TO BE GOING TO JAPAN FOR NEW YEARS GUYZZZZZ

Anthrocon Travel
Posted 10 years agoHow are people getting to Anthrocon? I figure it'd be more fun to travel with peeps rather than on my own like I have the last few years. I can take pretty much anything from Newark Penn Station, New York Penn Station, New York Port Authority, Laguardia Airport, John F Kennedy Airport, or Newark Airport.
DJing for Anime Central
Posted 10 years agoSo I need to DJ for Anime Central! I'm thinking about doing a Breakcore -> Hardstyle -> Hardcore -> Gabber -> Frenchcore/Speedcore set. I'm doing the smaller party just because I can't buy new gear while I'm in between jobs so I'll probably be rusty. SET LIST AND EVENT:

Parties, Raves, Castle Point, and Anime Central
Posted 10 years agoThat lists just about everything I'll be doing til June! I don't really have anything more than that to say.
Coney Island, Williamsburg, 14th st, etc. Castle Point I'm going pretty much just to hang out with an old friend and help another take some high quality pictures. Anime Central will be aran and Massive Knew Krew from Japan and me DJing. Woop woop.
Then the normal sad/depressive shit, ie: con't find/don't seem to want love anymore, still looking for a job, same ol' same ol. But hey, Free Macaron Day/free burgers for a year/etc. Just wish I could enjoy them with someone...
But trying to stay happy, so yay

Rave + Visitors
Posted 10 years agoApparently I'm popular D:
So there's a rave this weekend, a Batman rave. Big thing for me is that there will be Gabber, Hardcore, Nu-Style Gabber, Drum n Bass, Jungle, etc. which is HUGE given that this is in the states! Only in NYC <3
More to the point, looks like I have people visiting me not only from out of town, but from out of state. Going for some high quality ramen at Minca Ramen House in Alphabet City for lunch, probably Table 87 for some of NYC's best pizza in Brooklyn Heights, and then yeah. There's going to be a weird interim period where I think I'll show them the Meow Parlour. Then rave in Bushwick til 4a.
Also still thinking about my next apartment in... 5 months now. Three bedroom near the World Trade Center short distance from Wall St and my favorite Fulton Market? Duuuuuuude, this really is the life.
I also still have prospects to work at Time Warner/HBO since they didn't fold like my roommate thought. JP Morgan is still a thought as well, and I should probably do the thing that my generation calls "job hopping" because weeee!!
One last thing, my life is a sitcom!!

Pax East
Posted 10 years agoSo yeah, I just got my 9 badges the day I came home from Schenectady, which was actually a lot of fun and a bit hangoverry. Best part? I drank with the person whom we signed a multi million dollar contract with, and it actually gave him a lot of confidence when I salvaged the situation of not having the right gear in office.
In otherwords, I'm going to finally pat myself on the back. Those bourban sours and moquitos were well earned!
As I started with though, PAX EAST! Vacation time and all is prepared, so now it's time to play games months to years before they come out. Also need to not stay in the tabletop. SORRY I LOVE DND AND SUPER DUNGEON EXPLORE.
Speaking of which, I need to find an Ironclaw group. Furry styled DnD like game is amazing, I don't care what anyone says.

Schenectady for work
Posted 10 years agoNext up on my list is Schenectady for a week for work and hanging out with upstate furs, assuming I don't go to that 36 hour rave on Long Island. I probably won't though given that it's Valentine's weekend and yeah... but I'll have a friend in town from Chicago so I'm looking forward to partying hard and not thinking about things too much so that it ends up being a fun weekend.
I also got invited to DJ in front of 20,000+ people. AM I REALLY THAT GOOD?! Whenever I play, they do say I should play more often in their area aka Chicago and Atlanta... I think it's almost time to buy a new CDJ setup.

Anthrocon 2015 - Westin
Posted 10 years agoI got a 2 bed room at the Westin ( yeah, see what I did there with the spacing? >:3 ) for Thurs-Mon. I need to fill it, so yeah. If it becomes greater than 4, I will request that I get bed space as despite how unusually fit I am, my back is crap and I learned the hard way that I can no longer sleep on the floor ( Anime Central 2014 #teamnosleep u~u )
Logistics; price is $197.22 for all 4 nights if split 4 ways. The price will gradually lower if there's more people of course, but I won't raise it if there's less. I'd like to get paid asap so as to avoid the last minute flaking, but yeah, pretty much the standard flare of "I have a room, I need furs, let's party!"
So currently:

2 -
3 - ???
4 - ???
If given enough reason because I really prefer to max at 4 people for cons:

A Week in Schenactady and 8-bit Rave
Posted 10 years agoFINAL FANTASY ORCHESTRA
So Distant Worlds was amazing as always. I had the perfect seat and the person who sang Answers was ADORABLE. I also had a friend who offered a way to live in Japan. Tempting, hue hue hue; though I still think the business culture there is horrible and segregated.
でも、僕わ日本に行くをいる、よ!とても面白い、ぜ~
All being said, next events in the coming 3 weeks; I completely skipped the Wolf on Wall Street party and the Hugo party that was a couple blocks away. I still got free dim sum and red wine at my company's Eval, which happens every Thursday, though. Still, these parties were FREE and I was on the guest list. UGH.
Next big thing, next weekend in fact, is the 8-bit rave/party. I'll probably go and dance/win Super Smash Bros again, or lose miserably. Or play one of the other games they have set up. I don't know, it'll be fun, it'll last til 4am, ./next Saturday. Shame I can't really attend Katsucon, but ah well.
After that? Schenectady!! I'll technically be there for work, but that doesn't mean I'll be working 24/7. Let's see what them furs and peeps are doing up there. Maybe I can even convince someone to go with me or host an event like back in 2012, but I'm willing to just spontaneously make it up on the fly XD
Also, screw the SuperBowl, my friends are hosting a League of Legends competition and my old school. Tristana out~!
Final Fantasy Orchestra and Magfest Afterthoughts
Posted 10 years agoMagfest was fun, like REALLY fun. Machinae Supremacy was AMAZING, Power Glove was sick and unexpected. moshing was crazy, Super Dungeon Explore for 9 hours straight, DND 5e, raves on every floor, AHHHHH!!
And to think I go back to being a software engineer tomorrow.
Next up on the list is the Final Fantasy orchestra over in NJPAC on Jan 31st. I've seen them... 3 times before, but it's just so nice (and high class!) to enjoy them live. That being said, I'll probably be in jeans and skate shoes BWAHAHAHA.
Hopefully I see some of ya'll over there!

Redone Kate Website!!
Posted 10 years agoI'm still working on it as this is literally just the 'about' page, but bam!
~ Kate ~
I'm keeping it to the KISS principle aka Keep It Simple Stupid. My next goal will be the design of the opening page for my fursonas. All the links currently do not point anywhere because I've obviously only written this page. I think I'll start importing the use of JS and obviously reduce the picture size for better loading.
Personally, I like it but I'd like some sort of criticism. Outside of my dstorm.nyc, I'm trying to make this my best project in the web space, linking my fursonas together. Also give me some rites for front-end development since I've grown up on back-end and blegh!!

NYC - Future Plans
Posted 11 years agoI know I don't get responses on here and this isn't really the place to ask this, but I want some people's (I gues furry's!) opinions on this.
So currently I live in Hudson Square, which for those of you who don't know about the recent NYC government change, is the western part of SoHo. For those who don't know NYC neighborhoods, I live in Lower Manhattan by the water right next to the TriBeCa Film Festival. I don't like talking to my father about things pertaining to my personal life, especially given I haven't lived with him for 3 years, but over Thanksgiving he gave me a spiel about my rent and well, I tend to agree with him regardless of how much I hate talking to him about it! I refuse to leave NYC, however. That jargon won't fly because a) I feel the need to resurrect my grandfathers heritage as he's from Manhattan, b) I love it here, I see places I want to live in now and places I want to retire to, c) if I was really desperate, I know places and probably people who would rent to me for really cheap. I'm talking rooms for 500 or less, and areas where I've seen apartments go for $800 (yes they're safe areas, other undesirable things like commute time needs to be taken into account).
So I'll list out a few of my thoughts, starting with neighborhoods and why I like them, roughly in the order I probably want to choose them:
Hudson Heights, Manhattan - $1250~$1500/mo alone, $725~$800/mo split
Not necessarily the cheapest, and yet it's pretty dang cheap. I extend this neighborhood down to 168th st even though the feel and other things like school district is different. Main reason for this is because it's still safe, and even more so it's cheaper! This is also a neighborhood that is and always was pretty nice, is the highest point in Manhattan, has beautiful architecture (1920's art deco) and parks (Fort Tyron is my favorite NYC part at the moment), and water views on the Hudson are to die for. Some downsides are that it's a single train neighborhood for the most part, but it's express! The A stops at 168th, 175th, 181st, and 190th. The C also ends at 168th, but the C sucks, local stops from there to 59th take forever. There's also the 1 in the hood Washington Heights section that is a lot better than it used to be for sure. It stops on 168th, 181st, and 191st. I'm also edging on a 25-40 min commute (closer to the former). I personally LOVE this neighborhood.
Forest Hills, Queens - $1250~$1500/mo alone, $800~$1250/mo split (note, houses and MANSIONS)
Definitely not the cheapest neighborhood, but it is quite literally the BEST neighborhood by most QoL standards. Very good commercial district, 1700's British architecture, old US Tennis open courts, medieval looking apartments... all this for 30-40 min commute time with the E, F express and R, M local. There is also an LIRR station, which means my personal commute would only be 20 min, given more money because it's LIRR. This is my FAVORITE neighborhood in NYC, but where I want to live in it, I can't say is the cheapest and kind of goes beyond what I'm asking. Forest Hills Gardens is composed of Mansions and tudor style apartments and townhouses that look straight out of London. They also have a square with red brick roads, etc. If I can get lucky, the area between Queens Blvd and Austin St is teeming with commerce. Chances are, I'd have to look north of Queens Blvd where the rent is cheaper. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's not the 'perfect' that I was looking for. There's always prospect to split the mansions south of Austin St though~!
Morris Park, Bronx - $1000~$1250/mo alone, $600~$750/mo split
A personal favorite. It retains an odd art deco/tudor style look with the apartment buildings near the Pelham Parkway stop and is mostly houses as you go further east. The Pelham Parkway and Bronx Park East stops are home to the 2 (and 5 supposedly, and the Morris Park stop holds the 5. Big issue with the 5 is that it doesn't run at night and I don't see it often on weekends. This is fine as the commercial sector that I care about is along Ludwig Ave and White Plains Rd, as well as cheaper apartments. It also has the beautiful Bronx Botanical Gardens and Bronx Zoo. If I wanted to go co-op, I can get one at the lowest for 40k, or go 2bd at 100k. It's a very reasonably priced and safe place to live. I also have other reasons (hint:<3 <3). The main downside is the commute time. Talking 45 mins station to station, so there's possibility that this could be an hour. Not 100% sure on this, however, as I've only tested it once. They're also both express trains. The apartments are BIG though; for 1250/mo, I can get 800 sq ft. The neighborhood is very convenient as well, particularly around White Plains Rd.
Jackson Heights/Elmhurst, Queens - $1300~$1400/mo alone, $750~$800/mo split
The main thing with these two neighborhoods are the excellent commute times, access to trains, and diversity. There are the E, F, and 7 express, as well as the R, M, and 7 local. The commutes range from 20-30 mins, which is quite amazing. It's relatively cheap, and can be cheaper if you want to live further from the train, but personally I want to be close and that brings the price up a bit. There are some nice splits, but they're not common like in other neighborhoods. Very good food though.
Kingsbridge, Bronx - $1000~$1250/mo alone, $500~$650/mo split
A little weird, but I like it because it's cheap. It's not the nicest area, and when I speak it I speak for mostly Van Cordlandt Village and Kingsbridge Heights subsections. I go hear often to shop because the prices are low, and there's a good amount of restaurants along Broadway. It gets a little sketchy along Broadway (as it does anywhere north of Columbia University), but it's not bad. This is probably THE area to be cheap in as splits can get down to $500/person and the Aldi provides $1.79 milk. The 1 train is a bit of a pain, however. It has plenty of stops at 223rd st (Marble Hill), 230th st, 238th st, and 242nd st (Riverdale), but the 1 is local all the way down to the South Ferry. It's no joke that a 45-hour commute is a reasonable estimate.
Other notable mentions, maybe I can be persuaded? I'm not considering these because of commute time mostly. Other aspects involve the lack of apartments, odd expense (like Inwood because of Columbia University), or safety. Safety is ambiguous I know, but it really is nice to walk outside and to not feel like you're going to be mugged on a hot summer day. I also know the city isn't what it used to be with that; I walk around BedStuy fine, but it's just preference.
Manhattan - Inwood, Riverside Dr area of Hamilton Heights.
Brooklyn - Sunset Park, Kensington, Midwood, Bay Ridge, Gravesend, Bath Beach, Bensonhurst (I don't care much for WIlliamsburg; I'm not a hipster, but I do like the food a lot over there, Greenpoint included. Bushwick is still the ghetto though).
Queens - Astoria, Kew Gardens, Flushing, Woodside, Sunnyside, Rego Park, Ridgewood (not near the part that borders Bushwick).
Bronx - Riverdale, Spuyten Duyvil, Middletown-Pelham Bay, south of Allerton Ave in Pelham Parkway and Pelham Gardens, some of Van Nest, Norwood, some of Bedford Park, Fieldston (never see apartments here).
Staten Island - lol... no but really, only St George makes sense. I like Todt Hill but how the hell would I get to Midtown XD
New Jersey - Journal Square. That's literally all that's cheap XD Bayonne, Harrison, and some of Newark works, but ugh. Commute time/crime is killer. Path doesn't even quite work for me.
Let me know if you have opinions that can sway meow! I likely will move in July, but who knows. I'm also debating a East Village split near St Marks/Astor Place, but that might be more of a future possibility. I'm getting way to ahead of myself x3 <3
I could also do some crazy split in Midtown or the like for 1250~1500/mo. Very tbd on that as I don't know if I have enough friends who make enough for that.

I need to commission my fursonas
Posted 11 years agoSo after being mistaken as an anime cat, which I'm okay with, but it's improper, I figure that I really need to commission my fursonas. That and so I can commission them in other sorts of works and dark dark fantasies x3
I have a horrible habit of not making FA a social source, but if anyone is willing to deal with me and making my fursona's first commission, let me know. I'm not entirely sure how I want them to look visually as I've only used them in tabletops and the like, so yeah.

New York City - With a Job!
Posted 11 years agoSo yeah
I've had a jerb now for a few weeks, meowing on over everywhere. Going to be moving to somewhere in Midtown or Downtown, maybe to SoHo in TriBeCa's zip code, the 14th richest in the nation right across the street from West Village's 10014, the 6th most. Getting home at 9-11p everyday from just hanging out, eating new foods everyday. Being in Central Park, Washington Square Park, and Bryant Park all in one day, finding exclusives through people. Spending $50 at a bar because I know I'm going to get 175x that the next day.
I'm living some sort of high life... and it's amazing :3
Tomorrow I'm eating lunch with the CEO of my company, but I can't tell him my friend wants to hire me for 1.5x the amount I'm getting paid right now. It just never ends XD

Anthrocon?
Posted 11 years agoWell, I've been heavily debating going to Anthrocon, but I don't think I can without it being on a shoestring budget. I only really want to be around during the brunt of it aka Thurs-Sun or Fri-Sun and I can't afford much on chance I don't find a job.
I guess the sudden spark is the want to find someone else because of how down and out I've been since my breakup. I know it's a little backwards, but I strongly feel that I need someone else to think, care, and possibly love about so I can move on...
But that reason for me wanting to go aside, let meow know if there is an opening that I can fit in for cheap. I'll be coming in from NYC and while I would love a ride share as well, it's not necessary.
