Plans for the Week ( Commissions Opening Thursday Night)
Posted 8 years agoAs strange as it sounds I rarely ever post here as to what I intend to do work wise ( or anywhere for that matter). With the exception of my commission queue that my clients can follow.
Reason being I hate setting my plans out here because I'm deathly afraid that I'm going to look at them and go " Great! Plans that will just immediately fall through because of one thing or another!"
But slowly as I've turned a number of things into routine- commissions and other projects are getting done. So I'm going to try something different and just outright tell you what's going on this week.
My day -to- day commission schedule is always a bit different but here's what I aim to do this week.
1) Finish or get most of the badges I have left over to being completed and sent out.
2) Wrap up pages 1 and 2 of a YCH comic I owe.
3) Get back ( hopefully wednesday) into the swing of wrapping up an old outstanding comic commission.
4) Upload 2 Rat Problems 2 sketch pages to Patreon. ( trying to make that a weekly thing)
That said I have a few full color commissions remaining that I'd like to have done before the end of the week and another few that I want to have sketched and inked. Which shouldn't be an issue.
I know all of what I have set out sounds like a lot ... and I assure you - that's only because it IS A LOT. However I've managed to accomplish quite a bit in only a week.
AND YES as it says - THURSDAY NIGHT - I will open for a limited amount of new commissions.

this isn't really a major journal. Just wanted to announce that I'm back into the swing of things and I'm no longer in the nebulous area of trying to find my feet when getting back to work XD
If I'm gone for a con and it's just the weekend it's often no big deal but this last stint was TFF, then MCFC, then a week with friends ( which was amazing) and I came back a bit out of it.
Anyway Getting back to the grind as I have a YCH that needs to get finished and another comic on the way :)

Headed Home Today!

So first off I need to say that being GOH at Motor City Furry Con was amazing and I can't wait to attend next year <3
Secondly, thank you all to my clients for being so patient while I travel and visit old friends I only get to see once a year at best. Seeing childhood friends is a pretty big treat for me.
So I will be arriving tonight and after taking care of some other errands tomorrow I should be back to work on Tuesday!
I should also have some new work to put up on my patreon as I head toward inking and coloring Rat Problems 2 !
Anyway just wanted to give ya'll a heads up!

So I leave a generally nightly/daily message on my commission queue but not everyone checks so I'm going to post here just to make sure ya'll get the message.
No this isn't a begging for donations, rant on the furry fandom ( because I love the fandom and rants don't help me)
Just letting you all know that commissions are getting done but I am - TIRED -
I've been meeting a hard deadline on a project, wrapping up badges for TFF, Doing art for MCFC ( which you should go since I'm GOH) ( No I will not stop dropping that, I love bragging about that) and trying to keep up with my other workload.
I do REALLY appreciate how patient yall have been, and helping me pay bills with the icon commissions I do in the interrum since those don't take a lot of time.
I promise though after I come back from MCFC I'll be able to get back into the swing of things and continue working on Rat Pack 2 <3
Alright i'm off for now

Most Opportunites Come With A Pay Check
Posted 9 years agoTo all my dear friends out there working day in and day out making art their profession:
You deserve to be paid well. Take no shit in this area. None. What a client is paying for is not just your skill - but the time put into making the image, the years of practice and learning it took for you to get to that level of skill and for you to be able to live while making what they require. That's what income is supposed to do.
One major thing that these people who offer little to no income to artists like to say is :
"Well if you don't take this opportunity then someone else will."
This is true. And it's unfortunate not because -you- missed an opportunity, but some poor uninformed artist unaware of their value as a professional or as a person ( or worse: both). Will waste their time on this project spending what valuable time they have there finding better jobs. Better opportunities.
All good opportunities come with a paycheck. All professional entrepreneurs and business folk alike pay liveable wages to skilled artists. Not simply because they just like to throw around money, but because they believe in investing in the product they are getting. They know the artist shouldn't be focused on bills, paying rent, or making ends meet when working on their product. That money goes to eliminating distractions from the time they could be spending on their project.
So, my dear friends, colleagues, peers, and artists do not indulge people who only want to take advantage of you. They aren't worth your time.
Your TIME is valuable. Your WORK is valuable. Your SKILL is valuable.
YOU. ARE. VALUABLE.
Let no one convince you otherwise.
You deserve to be paid well. Take no shit in this area. None. I am back from Cali and spent today writing up my schedule, cleaning, and spending time with the boyfriend because I miss him so much <3 I'll be seeing a movie with him tonight but I'll be starting on my large work load tonight afterward!
Like I said in my ad I will start on the 23d but if I can tonight and just get the ball rolling I'll feel better.

On Gender and Pronouns
Posted 9 years agoI grew up without any qualms about my gender. I'd experienced some degree of coming to terms, bigotry, and bullying for other reasons like for my sexuality as one thing ( believe it or not, coming out as bisexual has drawbacks in both the straight and gay community.) And there were other reasons.
However, to those of you who are transgender, genderqueer, or whatever else I'm missing- it would be disingenuous to say that I understand what you have gone through or are going through currently.
I honestly feel that the very least I can do is take just a moment and ask you what your preferred pronoun is. And I will! I promise that if ever I address you by the wrong pronoun it's not done out of malice or a means of aggression. Seriously it's because I flubbed. Please do be patient with me and correct me!
The thing is your gender and how you identify is something you will know better than I ever will. I'll do everything in my power to make it clear that whatever issues I have with you- it's not your gender identity.
You shouldn't ever feel ashamed of that.
This really comes from seeing that a number of my friends who are transgender feeling increasingly uneasy and unsafe due to the current climate. I don't ever want ya'll to feel that way here.
