Well tonight I had a rather fun night thanks to a good buddy of mine. Unfortunately, he had his car broken into. Some crackhead in the middle of the wrong part of Atlanta decided it would be cool to break into his car.

Because of this, his already tight budget just became impossibly tight.

Straight up, he needs $250

Well, to be honest I'm tired of asking for free money, and I'm sure you all are tired of me asking for it, whether it be from me or for other people.

So here is what I'm willing to do.

I will sell ANY one or two of my originals for $250. ( this is of course if I have it. If it was a commission, they tend to be with those who commissioned the pic)

I'm not a big fan of parting with my originals. In fact I absolutely loath the idea. But my buddy has been an incredibly good friend. Parting with 1 or 2 of my originals to help him out.

This is a first come first serve deal. I am willing to even part with my Stitch In Fall originals.

So comment here with the originals you would like and you have to be willing to pay immediately. I will note you immediately afterwards...

Okay so this has a lot of the same stuff I posted in the last entry but there are some addendums...

How to Train your Dragon

Sooo... I saw the preview for the new film that Mr. Chris Sanders has directed after defecting over to Dreamworks.

I must say... from what I've seen, I'm not terribly excited.

Story wise it just simply looks like a re-tell of Lilo and Stitch. 2 characters, misfits in their respective societies, join to tie a broken bond while fixing their own lives.

The animation looks like your typical 3D animation. Overexaggeration with no personality. The dragon acts like stitch, ( not to mention the dome head)

Now, to be fair, Dreamworks generally sucks at making previews. I wasn't looking forward to Kung Fu Panda initially until I did some real digging and seeing some of the layout work as well as some of the beautiful shots and hearing the real story. Kung Fu Panda, I feel, should have won the Oscar over Wall-E. Wall-E, while not a bad movie by any stretch, tried to be too many things at once and ended up having story ADD ( given not NEARLY as bad as Desperaux) And simply settled at being a decent movie, but not a great movie that Pixar has been so good at doing. Kung Fu Panda was so much more solid of a movie, the story wrapped itself up nicely, while still being a substantial story. Kung Fu Panda was visually stunning and really excersized the talents of the animators and conceptual artists that they had. This also applied to Over the Hedge ( which I would have been a lot more satisfied if either that or Cars won the Oscar that year.. not Happy Feet... that movie was a piece of garbage)

With very few exception I cannot take the people who worked on it seriously. From my experience with some of the Cartoon Network animators local here who go balls to the wall crazy over stuff like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, talking about how good it is. I'm sorry but I don't think that just because people watch it, makes it good. One of the things that I keep hearing is that the writing is it's saving grace. The writing often sounds like some hipster dufus who wears a Thundercats T-shirt (never having seen the show before) wrote it. This applies to most of the shows that I see on Adult Swim. Most of the animators will get excited and over hype what they're working on, almost because they are working on it. While by all means, don't hate what you do, especially if you love to do it. But be realistic. Discuss what you feel really makes it work.



You know... I have the artbook for Lilo and Stitch, both sketchbooks that Chris published and his Kiskaloo book ( thank you  blackteagan and  kenket ) all of which signed by the man himself. I've followed his career from Marvel to this point and I have to say this movie doesn't look like anything that could excersize his talents as a storyteller.

But before I get too much into a rant, I have to say I'm more dissapointed in his ego-stroking fan base for simply loving it BECAUSE he directed it. I'm not stunned by the director. I may look forward due to their credentials. Like say if Brad Bird is directing something then you're DAMN right I'm going to go see it. The movie is not good because a director directed it, it's because the director and the crew made the right decisions.

A lot of people are really excited for this movie for the wrong reason. Same with Frog Princess. While I love 2d animation and hope to work in that in my future working in animated features, the medium does not define whether or not it's good. Among the elements, however, that must work for it are using the medium that you are filming it to it's optimum along with the right choices of story telling.

Any director, great or small is capable of making a bad movie. I reserve any and all judgement on this movie until I see it. And maybe a few times ( I didn't like Sweeney Todd until I saw it a third time)


I think most of my actual anger is stemming from how I recall being a fan of Chris back in 2002 and no one knowing him. Then all of a sudden he's the most popular guy on the planet. A little juvenile I agree but man...

Where the Wild Things Are

So I went to see Where The Wild Things Are on my trip to Cali.

While I can't very well say it's a bad movie... it's actually a good movie. Very innovative, visually stunning and the storytelling is both clear and yet disorienting. So while it passes like a dream, you actually know everything that's going on.

Do NOT however go in expecting an interpretation of "Where The Wild Things Are"

My best description of it, without giving away anything. It is an interpretation of childhood using characters and environments seen in the book.

This was not a movie designed for children. Mind you, being someone very familliar with good animated films that are family friendly, things that are oriented at children can be just as well told and just as intelligently like movies such as "The Hunt for Red October"

This movie seemed more that it was directed toward adults with a perspective on childhood. However those peering from the point of view of the child would not simply understand it. If at all find it boring.

As I said, this movie is not BAD, but it is not what the title says it is. I still haven't decided if I like it or not... It's best if you all go see it for yourself to ascertain your own opinion.

While he may not be an icon in the furry fandom, he is a very important person. To me especially.

During the time I had mentioned in  amonomega's entry that I went through a time of growing up. I had been kicked out of school for a little bit of time. Well... facing my parents and facing the school, getting back in, learning, understanding professionalism and then eventually going on to direct a few animated shorts and then graduate college with a 3.8 average, with great contributions to the curriculum as well as having the respect of my ENTIRE graduating class... he was there for every single bit of it. In fact he helped usher me into that.

The human body, in order to stand up straight, and have the nervous system work perfectly, it needs to have a spine. For my life he taught me how to have a spine.

So to a person who helped me become who I am and planted the seeds for me to possibly grow into something greater than I am and help me believe in it, thank you man. Thank you very much

So some of you may know that today is  amonomega's birthday.

Some of you guys may have seen that we have a great friendship... that well borderlines homosexual awesomeness ( and if you saw us at FWA you thought even more so.... XP ) Joking aside ( because missus  cherushi would have both words and fists to discuss with me )

Maybe I can give you guys some insight on what is a very important friendship to me.

He and I met toward the end of 2004 at the Art institute of Atlanta through our mutual friend  neph I was loud and boisterous at the time and he was quiet but still fun to talk to. A few months later he left for Canada to be with the love of his life.. (AND IT'S NOT ME BAAAWWW XPP) This being a fairly necessary move I understood.

During the time he was there, I had spoken to him online. In secret I admired his work. So if you all saw a radical change in my work long before now, you can thank Amon. While my work is far more influenced by Chris Sanders now than it used to be it was because he put me into a few practices that made me really challenge myself.

During though, through this period of time that he was away a few things happened. I flunked out of school because my grades were so bad. All of it was my fault.. I hadn't grown up enough yet and didn't set my priorities yet.

This cracked a bit of reality on my head...I could either just accept life in mediocrity or... I could actually try in life and refuse to both quit and fail... and I chose to lift myself back up.

I got back into school and attacked my grades with a vengeance.. Though overall it wasn't about the grades, it was challenging myself to do better. If I could do better in it, then I simply would.

The loud and boisterous person i once was disappeared. I wasn't as social and found myself with less friends... almost to the point of loneliness. I had even distanced myself from my older friends in Michigan. The people I grew up with. But no one got it. No one saw that I not only wanted to do well in what I was doing, I wanted to become this uncompromised individual who didn't need an excuse.. for anything. I would soon find, however, less friends, but more meaningful friendships.

Alex came back in 2007. Now either he had changed as well, or I was discovering the person he was all along, but I had found someone with a very very similar aspiration. Artistically I still looked up to him ( which holds true to now ) so we hit it off.

We eventually started taking on projects together. We worked AWESOMELY together. Being able to bounce ideas off each other and making these nuggets of thought shine like diamonds. We found ways that worked well and not so well together. We competed and even taught together as TA's for the same teacher (who is still a dear friend to the both of us) He and I had a lot of fun teaching students, and even were asked by other teachers to come in and either lecture, tutor, assist.. even substitute because we both had so much charisma and love for animation and the process.

Graduation for him came along ( a quarter before mine ) and he found himself heading back out to Canada to be with his hintended. I kinda knew that was to happen. Didn't make it any easier. So for one final hurrah before he left we went to see Star Trek the movie and went to the Marietta diner for some Chocolate Suicide cake and beer ( okay well he drank but I was treating because I'm awesome ) Talked about everything and had an awesome evening.

Lol this friendship is far from over and I simply wanted to talk about the path up to this point. Eventually we'll be working at the same studio together creating AWESOME animated features and projects that will hopefully inspire other artists to love the medium the way we do, or simply inspire people.

So for a man who has been an artistic inspiration, a good friend and a brother to me who has presented me with one of the most important friendships in my life. Happy birthday man.

While it's been a while since I've discussed the 100 sketch challenge, it's been a while since I got credit for starting it XP.

Allow me to introduce

 raleda 's work concentrates on the single idea to put as much life and character into one single captured moment as much as possible.

An artist with a rockin icon ( hookers with guns!? who can resist!?) and a rocking art method which renders them fearless in the face of complicated angles and perspectives.

Both artists have solid work and for only $5 you can have the opportunity to awaken either artist's potential by unleashing your characters upon them.

Sooooo I do ask one favor when you do. Please please pleeeaaasse credit me for it. While it's a small thing, I do kinda like taking credit for someting I CREATED :3

Now here's something helpful that I posted on the forums that may help out more here than it did there...

Within the course of 3 weeks I was able to set a challenge, meet it, and exceed it. I topped at 125 sketches. Needless to say... coming home, or waking up every day, knowing I had work ahead of me provided me with a great GREAT learning experience.

Taking on this is quite a big task. $5 is easy to shell out and people will easily find you and do so. But doing it for the money and the time you'll be putting in for it doesn't even out unless you are a ridiculously quick sketch artist with good quality to their work.

I will advise that this be looked on more as an excersize rather than an easy money maker...

1) Improvement

Whether you're a newbie or a seasoned professional, it is your JOB to improve. Making your product better, and becoming efficient at providing a high quality product is nothing short of a necessity in a competitive climate. Being both a freelance animator and illustrator, I can tell you this first hand.

When you take on the challenge it will not be the quantity that justifies your quality but through the quantity you will learn quality. Practice makes perfect.

2) Responsibility

Even some of the best in the fandom ( or elsewhere ) lack a work ethic. The amount of work you will undertake is INSANE. The only way to accomplish this in a REASONABLE amount of time is by drawing every day. This will teach you a little bit about making your art into a job.

Posting every day and keeping your clients updated is essential. As a professional, that's how you make your money. As a growing artist, learning this should take priority ( among the other things I have and will mention.)

3) Consistency

I had lightly touched on this previously in number one. Just because they are sketches does not give you an excuse to slack off. You need to be able to provide a consistent quality to your work; between great and awesome. If the person doesn't understand what's happening in the pic, doesn't recognize their character, or species.. then you clearly haven't fulfilled your end of the bargain. You may only be charging a small amount, but providing crap is not going to win you any medals or future commissions.

Learning to strive for an excellent image in every commission you do is essential to both your growth as an artist and as a professional ( or at the very least if you wish to keep on making money.)

4) Research

One of the biggest things that this taught me was the importance of research.

One of my biggest irritations in regards to this fandom ( or any fandom for that matter) is seeing the same thing over and over again and the only thing defining it are the descriptions.

Your image should be defined simply by what is drawn. Not what you say.

One of the biggest influences on my visual style is very VERY guilty of this. Chris Sanders (the creator and art Director of Lilo and Stitch, initial creator of Bolt, Director of Crude Awakening, and How to Train your Pet Dragon... among his more recent accomplishments) if he was asked to draw say 50 women, he would draw 25 different Nanis and 25 different Lilos ( Lilo and Nani are characters from Lilo and Stitch) The only thing different about them would be eye color, hair color/style and maybe expressions..

If you were to ask the same thing of the master Chuck Jones, you would receive 50 different women of 50 different ages, sizes, body types, personalities and quirks.

The point being.. don't let your lions look like your tigers look like your bears look like your ferrets. They are all very VERY different creatures. Take the time to study photos of them, sketch a bit to understand what structurally makes these animals different than any other creature! Cartooning these and learning how to will be great experience for you.


All of this will lead you to becomming a much more sought after artist and, above all, you will be far more satisfied with your work and yourself as an artist.

So if you do decide to take this challenge on, I encourage you to follow this advice. Having finished and exceeded it myself (brag brag brag) I can tell you from experience.

 psychoshounen introduced me to VCL and  gideon and Karabiner were on the first page... and I kept going back..

well in many forms I was able to push myself artistically.

Just the people, nothing copyright or franchised or what not.

Like all fandoms, there are freaks and losers, but most of the people I know involved in the fandom are genuinely good honest people... plus I make looots of money at cons. I have yet to see a real negative.

*What are your favorite aspects of our community?
The great appreciation for any and all forms of art.

People that use it as a sexual playground... there is no excuse whatsoever to lose a grip over principles and morals...

Same as I feel about anyone bashing any community as a whole, they're typically pretty ignorant people that need to feel good about themselves in some way.

Depends on how much I care if the person gets hit by a bus the next day...Anyone who trusts the media is a glutton for punishment and a target themselves for ridicule.


*We all know furries have alot of sexual aspects in this fandom, What's your opinion on it?
Nothing wrong with being comfortable with what you're into sexually, ( unless of course you like to rape little kids.. then there are some problems) But, don't go assuming everyone else is. Tact is such a nice thing.
